Clara Barton Physical Description
I got to know my saint, Clarissa Harlow Barton through a variety of mediums. These included
books from the Regis College library as well as online articles, poems, biography videos and
documentaries. Along with these various sources I found through my research images of Clara.
These images ranged from self portraits at different ages in her life to her working in the field as
well as teaching students in a classroom. Clarissa Harlow Barton was born on December 25th of
1821, in North Oxford, Massachusetts which was located 50 miles West of Boston. Her parents
were Stephen and Sarah Barton and her four siblings were Dorothea,Stephen, David, and Sally. Her
and her siblings grew up in a middle class household and earned enough money that her... Show

She was described as short, plump, and homely, she had yet to gain the character that would
render her face so interesting according to her parents and siblings. Clara s mother also
neglected the child s thick lustrous dark brown hair which was noted to be her one good feature.
Her hair was close cropped which only served to emphasize her broad forehead and sallow
complexion. Along with this, Clara had a speech impediment which caused her to lisp and this
lead to increasing her bashfulness. Due to all of these difficult things Clara had to deal with on
a daily basis, her timidness grew to be excessive. Clara s mother regarded her daughter as shy
and troublesome as well as difficult to manage this attitude only reinforced Clara s own sense of
being a burden. As she began to grow older, Clara gained a particular interest in helping others
that could not help themselves and directly alleviating sickness or trouble. Her brother David
grew extremely ill and sought to his sister for help. She spent large amounts of time trying to
nurse her brother back to health. Clara refused to leave his side for nearly two years and
acquiescing to his demands that she alone administer his medicine. Despite all of her relief Clara

Zaroff And Rainford s Fighting
As Rainsford was battling Zaroff he raised his fists, and they started punching each other. It was
so brutal. Rainsford punched Zaroff right in the face. Rainford broke Zaroff nose and jaw.
Zaroff knew he was in a fight with someone who had experience. Zaroff went for a body punch
and snagged Rainsford in the ribs. Ivan juniour, who came from the secret hatchet in the castle.
Iven junior let the dogs out and they joined the fight with Zaroff and Rainford. One of the dogs
bit Zaroff s leg and they bit the main artery. A couple moments later Zaroff was getting pale and
died. Rainsford knew he had to act quick. He remembered that he used to train dogs in New York.
He used some skills and trained the dogs. These dogs he had trained

Knuckleball Research Paper
MLB breaking balls can easily be the hardest pitches to throw. You have to have a certain grip on
the ball. You have to have a certain throwing motion to be able to make them break/move. You
also need to be able to throw the ball at the right speed and the speed with your arm motion has to
be a certain speed as well. There are three breaking balls that can make or break a pitcher in the
MLB. The first pitch that I will talk about is the knuckleball. Knuckleballs are one of the hardest
pitches to consistently control because it seems to just float in the air and can t be easily placed.
The NPR says, throw the knuckleball a pitch that can make even the best hitters look helpless. The
knuckleball is a crazy pitch that can trick many batters,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most important finger to be able to throw the curveball is the middle finger. The pitcher will
find a seam that will give resistance to the middle finger to get more control and spin on the ball.
This is how the spin on the curveball is so tight. According to Steven Ellis, The throwing elbow
must be equal to or slightly above the throwing shoulder. You must stay over the top when you
throw the curveball. Throwing it when it s under your shoulder then you put additional stress on
your arm. Also if the arm is at an angle larger than 90 degrees then it also puts additional stress
on your arm. The placement of your arm will be alot closer to your head then you re normal
fastball. It will be slightly up and away from your ear. When you release the curveball you want
to release it out in front of you. The way you release the ball is the type of action you want the
pitch to have. When releasing a curveball, your wrist will be hooked and your hand will pull
down in front of your body, says Steven Ellis. The further you release the ball from your head, the
less grip you will have on the ball, resulting in a looser spin on your pitch. It is extremely important
that you maintain similar arm speed with your curveball that you have with your fastball. A hitter
reads arm speed. says Steven

Cross Dressing
Cross dressing is considered one of society s abnormal ideas because of stereotypical gender
roles. Stereotypical gender roles are stated as, biological females are feminine and biological
males are masculine. Cross dressing does not represent the gender specific roles; in which men
and women are suppose to follow. The idea of men and women acting and dressing like their
opposite sex is unacceptable to the reality that they face. The movie The Bird Cage supports the
idea that society s stereotypical views on cross dressing remains unchanged. Society is not
understanding of what is considered different from the normal. The stereotype that men are
masculine and women are feminine is not the reality of genderversus sex. In Sexual... Show more

Back in the 19th century women were not allowed anything else except a dress. Society can
accept this change because of the influence of time and the boldness of women. In The Bird
Cage, Louise Keeley (the senator s wife) makes a great example of how society only perceives
what it wants to perceive. Why, it looks like young men playing leapfrog!...Is it Greek? In reality
Louise Keeley is look at a piece of china with pornographic pictures of young men. Louise Keeley
does not see what is really there because she blinds herself in order to shield herself from what is
considered immoral and in a sense horrible. Society also tries to hide and shield themselves from
situations that they do not like, such as homosexuals, homeless people, cross dressers, etc. Just
because society wants to blind itself, does not mean that these people do not exist. Cross
dressing is viewed as wrong in the eyes of a stereotypical society. Biological men and women are
supposed to be masculine and feminine respectively. Cross dressing is not considered a norm in
society. This idea is seen through the movie The Bird Cage. In reality sex does not determine
gender, as represented by Brian Pronger in Sexual Mythologies. Therefore sex cannot determine
gender, but society will always view what it wants to see. Unless society can learn to accept people
for who they are and what they wear, then we will have a truly have a society where there are no

The Importance of Advance Directives While most people do not speak about end of life issues
either because of their background or religion, it is not only for the elderly, we should all make
our wishes known. According to the Pew Research Center, (January 2006), 42% of Americans
have had a friend or relative suffer from a terminal illness or coma in the last five years and for a
majority of these people , the issue of withholding life sustaining treatment came up . Although
many people feel it is taboo, all adults over the age of 18 should think about what their healthcare

5. Palliative Care is comfort that is provided when death is imminent. This type of care includes
pain medication and oxygen. Although these are just some types of situations that may arise,
there are areas which are more difficult to plan for but being vocal about our wishes will help
our loved ones if the time comes when a decision needs to be made. High profile cases in the
news. There have been numerous cases in the media regarding people who have fallen ill and
did not have an advance directive in place. In cases such as these the decision falls on the
patients family members. At times family members do not agree and courts need to get
involved to decide what medical treatment is appropriate. Terry Schiavo, Husband vs. Parents.
One of the most famous cases in recent years is the case of Terri Schiavo. According to Yates, Jr.
(2005), about 17 years ago Terri Schiavo s heart stopped. Her brain was deprived of oxygen for
an unknown length of time. This lack of oxygen resulted in permanent brain damage. Terri was
able to breathe on her own; she received artificial nutrition and hydration, along with routine
medical care and rehabilitation. Yates, Jr. (2005) stated, Perhaps the most important issues
concerning medical decision making was that no one knew exactly what Terri Schiavo wanted to
have done on her behalf (В¶ 4). Since she did not have her wishes documented, her surviving
spouse became her spokesperson.

The Effects Of Living At Walden Essay
In 1854, Henry David Thoreau gave us what would become his most famous non fiction book,
Walden; or life in the Woods. In this, Thoreau describes his project at Walden Pond near
Concord, Massachusetts. Thoreau decided that he was going to live deliberately in the woods
for over two years and live off of a limited economy and isolate himself from society in order to
gain a more objective understanding of it. But one has to ask the question, what does Thoreau
mean that he wants to live deliberately ? Thoreau himself said that he wanted to live deliberately,
to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not,
when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. (Thoreau, 61) He wanted... Show more content on

The whole bank, which is from twenty to forty feet high, is sometimes overlaid with a mass of
this kind of foliage, or sandy rupture, for a quarter of a mile on one or both sides, the produce of
one spring day. What makes this sand foliage remarkable is its springing into existence thus
suddenly. When I see on the one side the inert bank, for the sun acts on one side first, and on the
other this luxuriant foliage, the creation of an hour, I am affected as if in a peculiar sense I
stood in the laboratory of the Artist who made the world and me, had come to where he was still
at work, sporting on this bank, and with excess of energy strewing his fresh designs about. I feel
as if I were nearer to the vitals of the globe, for this sandy overflow is something such a
foliaceous mass as the vitals of the animal body. You find thus in the very sands an anticipation
of the vegetable leaf. No wonder that the earth expresses itself outwardly in leaves, it so labors
with the idea inwardly. The atoms have already learned this law, and are pregnant by it. The
overhanging leaf sees here its prototype. Internally, whether in the globe or animal body, it is a

Why Did Texas Fight
What caused thousands of people to fight in one of the bloodiest wars in American history for there
homeland? Maybe it was because of the Missouri Compromise, or possibly the abolitionist who
tried to start a slave uprising. This creates the question why did Texans Fight? I believe that Texans
fought beacuse they wanted to protect states rights, love for Texas, and perserve slavery. First off,
Texans fought for the south was states rights. Texas became mad when they were informed that
they could t leave the union. No state upon its own mere motion, can lawfully get out of the union.

Essay On Monolingual Dictionary
As one of style of English that are mostly used by people around the world, British English (BE)
has their own dictionary. A dictionary has several functions, such as to help us with the concept, to
illustrate the usage, to clarify the distinction or to assist in a writing task (Hartman James, 1998, p.

lemma of a language explained in the same language (Hartman James, 1998, p.95). Hartman and

on the spelling to assist in the writing task (1998, p.60). BE also has their own popular monolingual

The Necessity Of Cell Phone
Cell phones , when many people hear these words, they think of a talking device, right? Well,
they re right to a certain degree, however, a cell phone is so much more than just that and they
don t even realize it. Instead of thinking of a phone as a type of device, people everywhere
should realize what it really is, a necessity. A necessity is something that people have to have in
an everyday life. In today s society, cell phones are used every single day, all around the world.
They have became a very important aspect in lives, and to make it throughout each day, citizens
have to have a cell phone. Phones are used for school, work, money, safety, and so much more.
Cell phones make things quick and they re convenient. A cell phone is definitely a have to have
in life today. They are used for essentially everything. It s remarkably more than just a phone, it s
a protection, communication, and an entertainment device all in one. The world is a scary
place, for both a tennager and a parent. For a parent, never knowing when an accident might
happen or where their child is at causes a lot of stress, and for a young teenager just being alone
is intimidating enough. How are people supposed to stay safe? Having a cell phone fixes those
problems and fears. People don t have to be worried or scared because, with a phone there is
always protection. There is access to 911, even in places that there is no service. Also, not knowing
directions can be very stressful a young teenager and

Kim Kardashian Stereotypes
There isn t one single reality television show or reality t.v. show star in particular that is
stereotyped to a typical standard, though as reality television stars gain more popularity and try to
build their brands, to have the perfect body is often the stereotype that all genders go through.
Transsexual and transgendered celebrities have also spoke about the necessity to display the
perfect body because they were born men, and have to exceed women, when speaking about beauty,
just to fit in. Everyone loves to use the Kardashians as an example so why not. Kim Kardashian
from Keeping Up With The Kardashians is known for her perfect hour glass figure with large
breasts, a tiny waist, and bigger than average booty (and yes I said booty!). She is regarded as
many for having the perfect body, and other women have felt the pressure to emulate her body in
order to achieve the same vanity appeal.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With her being taller and simply having a different body structure than Kim, many blogs and
commentators bash her constantly because she doesn t fit their mold of the it girl . Other reality
television show stars also find it difficult staying on top. Shows produced by VH1 and Bravo
like Love and Hip Hop, Real Housewives of Atlanta and Beverly Hills, and even Botched.
Documents how women more so than men, use cosmetic surgery to enhance their body so that
they fit in with the celebrity Hollywood culture. On Love and Hip Hop, most of the cast members
are of native ethnic descent (being African American/Black, Caribbean, Latino/Hispanic).
Therefore beauty is even more stigmatized, in my opinion, from the communities that these
women are either from or are idolized by. Women in the Black community are known to have big
butts, fuller breasts, thick thighs and lovely curves. That s a lot to live up to if you didn t get it

Changes In Renaissance Culture
The Renaissance was a pivotal time coming out of Medieval Europe that was full of many changes
and advancements. Budding out of Italy, this change of society spread throughout Europe and
caused a drastic change of culture. One huge difference between the Middle Ages and the
Renaissance was the difference of lifestyle and self value. A huge reason for this change was the
rise of humanism. Humanism is a doctrine, attitude, or way of life centered on human interests or
values (Merriam Webster). The rise of humanism during the Renaissancecaused an increased pursuit
of knowledge, less devout religion, and huge growth in the popularity and purchase of art.
Humanism began in Florence, Italy. It involved bringing back the lifestyles of Classical Rome and
Greece. Because of this, education was highly valued again which caused many more people to
learn how to read and write (Ketchum and Plumb). The ideal man at this time was a man who was
multitalented, a well rounded man intellectually and artistically. The term Renaissance Man... Show

People began to live much more luxurious lifestyles alongside their religion. Francesco Petrarch,
known to many as the Father of Humanism , had a huge influence on the religious aspect of
humanism. Though he was a devout Catholic, he argued that one could live a lavish life and reach
their full human potential while still being completely faithful to God. Instead of showing their
devotion by swearing their lives to poverty, people would read, write, and even paint or play
music (Rabil 210 218). The Reformation also went hand in hand with humanism. People were more
focused on being individuals and learning on their own, so religious views of many changed when
Martin Luther and John Calvin were professing ideas about the bible being the ultimate answer
rather than the pope. Humanism caused people in the Renaissance to be less reverent than their

Violence as a Theme in The Color Purple
Physical, emotional and verbal abuse were a common part of life in the deep south in the early

Why The Penny Should Be Abolished Essay
A penny saved is a penny earned, to quote Benjamin Franklin. Unfortunately a penny saved is not
worth a whole lot anymore. Like many other once useful things the penny has become obsolete. The
production and use of the penny in the United States monetary system should be abolished.
Eliminating the penny would not be the first time the U.S. has abolished a small denomination. For
example the half cent coin was eliminated in 1857 with little to no trouble. This was due to the
half cent s production cost exceeding its face value similar to the penny right now. Also the half
cent was deemed no longer necessary in purchases just as the penny is no longer necessary today.
One reason why the penny should be abolished is because more and ... Show more content on

Penny candy and similar selling strategies or products do not exist anymore. Not to mention what
used to be worth one cent forty five years ago costs ten cents today. Over time the value of the
penny has depreciated with inflation rendering them useless. Furthermore, since the penny cannot
function on its own in a purchase the production of the penny is pointless.
A third reason why the penny should be abolished is because it is a time waster. When making a
purchase and an annoying penny is needed, precious seconds are wasted digging in pockets or
purses. In a culture where time is money, why is an annoyance like the penny still used. The penny
is a timewaster and its use and production should be halted immediately.
Finally a fourth reason why the penny should be abolished is because its production cost exceeds
its face value. The U.S. Mint is losing money, as it costs 1.5 cents to manufacture a one cent
penny. This results in the U.S. Mint losing millions of dollars per year. For example, in 2016, the
U.S. Mint lost $46 million dollars by producing pennies. This makes no sense logically. Why would
you manufacture a product that you can not make a profit

Blake s The Marriage of Heaven and Hell Essay
Blake s The Marriage of Heaven and Hell
The Nature of my Work is Visionary or Imaginative; it is an Endeavor to Restore what the Ancients
calld the Golden Age. William Blake (Johnson/Grant,xxiv).
William Blake completed the manuscript of The Marriage of Heaven and Hell, as well as the
twenty five accompanying engraved plates, in 1792. In the sense that the The Marriage of Heaven
and Hell is a vision of a particular version of reality, it subscribes to one definition of the mythic,
but also fulfills another as Birenbaum writes in Tragedy and Innocence: ...on a more specialized
level... true myth ...suggests a penentration to the essential nature of human experience, made by
conspicuously violating features ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Blake uses traditional symbols of angels and devils, animal imagery, and especially images of fire
and flame to: 1) set up a dual world, a confrontation of opposites or contraries which illustrate
how the rules of Reason and Religion repress and pervert the basic creative energy of humanity, 2)
argues for apocalyptic transformation of the self through the radical regeneration of each person s
own power to imagine (Johnson/Grant, xxiv), and 3) reconstructs Man in a new image, a fully
realized Man who is both rational and imaginative, partaking of his divinity through creativity. The
form of the poem consists of The Argument, expositions on his concepts of the contraries and of
expanded perception which are both interspersed with Memorable Fancies that explicate and
enlarge on his expositions, and concludes with A Song of Liberty, a prophecy of a future heaven on
earth.
Without Contraries is no progression. Attraction and
Repulsion, reason and Energy, Love and Hate, are
necessary to Human existence.
From these contraries spring what the religious call
Good Evil. Good is the passive that obeys Reason.
Evil is the active springing from Energy.

The Underlying Courage in “A Wrinkle in Time”
The Underlying Courage in A Wrinkle in Time Typically in novels there are many supporting
themes to create the storyline in the novel; in A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L Engle a major
theme in the novel is courage. It shows in almost every chapter, through Margaret (Meg) Murry
and Charles Wallace Murry. The quest the kids go through in the novel corresponds to Joseph
Campbell s Hero s journey also the type of courage found within the Christian framework. Courage
is having the strength to resist and endure fear, danger, and difficulty; it is the main thing that can
keep the children together on the journey. In the very beginning, of the novel, Meg is the first to
display courage. She does so by defending her little brother, Charles... Show more content on

Examples Of Alienation In The God Of Small Things
My research paper argues that Ammu, the central character of Arundhati Roy s Man Booker Prize
Winning novel The God of Small Things, whose tragic and alienated life is ubiquitously echoed
throughout the novel and her life and destiny are akin to those whose voice always gets muffled.
Man suffers spilt within himself via Г is the society in which he is accidentally born. It is this
breach or displacement that occasions many a tension and lifelong struggle. Industrial revolution
and the advancement of technology intensified this struggle. As man grows, he finds himself in a
dubious situation as far as his relationship with himself as well as his relatedness to his society is
concerned. An alienated individual suffers chain reaction of debilitating symptoms... Show more

He believes that alienation is a phenomenon of consciousness, involving an inherent
disassociation of man as subject and object. It is interesting to note that while Marx discusses
four aspects of alienation alienation from the object produced; alienation from one s work
process itself; alienation from one s work; alienation from one s fellow men, the Freudians hold
that it is society that creates an emaciating effect upon man s raw energy. Erich Fromm, like
Hegel, explained alienation more than a sociological phenomenon. He discussed four main ways
in which a person can experience alienation: from nature, from others, from society, and from the
self. While discussing the concept of alienation, Karen Horney talks about real self . Her main
focus is on understanding the psychic processes which ensue when a person loses touch with his
real self or is self alienated. In Durkheim s phraseology, alienation as the consequence of a state of
anomie exists when people believe that there is a breakdown of societal behavioral norms, and the

Single Wired Female Essay
Single Wired Female by Greg Dragon is a book in the science fiction/thriller genre. It is the second
book by the author, set in the same universe as the previous one, Re wired, and revolves around a
character from the previous novel.
Bonnie O Neal is talented, successful and rich. Problem is she cannot remember any of it. After
four months of comatose condition, Bonnie wakes up to learn that an attempt on her life by her
ex husband landed her in the hospital, and caused her memory lapse. Bonnie is recovering from
her memory loss, with only one slight glitch: the memories belong to someone else. Whose past
has invaded her brain? What is reason behind her sudden awareness and understanding of
androids? Is Bonnie s attempted murder a simple case of revenge or is it part of a more sinister

For someone recently introduced to Android science fiction, I found the book very thought
provoking. Yes, there is some scientific bit to keep the reader interested, though I have mixed
feelings about the same; since on one hand people looking for pure science fiction might be
disappointed while the newly initiated would find the facts quite easy to grasp. However, what
really impressed me was the slightly philosophical and emotional quota in the book.
The author intelligently introduces plot twists to explore the question of how would an android
construct its identity. Since, the android is essentially built of metal and wires, is it right to
assume that it is non living, even though it is made to resemble human life as closely as possible.
The story goes a step further, and compares an android s existence to that of a slave, who is also at
times subject to molestation, because an android can t complain, can

Excessive Survivalism Is A Sport
Excessive survivalism is a sport in when athletes are obsessed with winning and will do
anything to achieve that goal of winning. Players will find ways to bend the rules or cheat just to
achieve the victory over their opponent. The need to win games will overrule the player s
morals and beliefs as a person. This is a huge problem athletes face when it comes to sports.
They become so obsessed with winning that it becomes the only objective they focus on. Some
athletes even put their health at risk. In some cases athletes will sustain an injury and will not
let the team know so they can take the proper protocol just so they can they can stay in the game.
In other cases, a player may do something that is considered dirty or against the rules just to get
the edge over their opponent, and that might not be how the player is as a person outside of
their sport but when it comes to the game they will do anything they need to do survive and win.
Runaway individualism in sports is when a player is all about their self. Players that tend to
have runaway individualism are the ones who are only worried about their own success instead
of team success. These players do not look at their team as a family, they see their teammates as
individuals who they just have to share the field or court with. These players usually do not have a
stable home, they bounce around from team to team because they are labeled as selfish players. A
perfect example of runaway individualism is when

Odysseus is Not a Hero for the Modern Age Essay
Many would argue that Odysseus is more of a villain nowadays, for every instance of his
wiliness or feats of strength there are several of venality, vice, cruelty, or selfishness. The
episode of the Sirens,(Book 12), is one example. The only reason Odysseus ties himself up to the
mast, when instead he could have simply plugged his ears with wax like the rest of his crew, is
that he chooses the jeopardous choice, wanting to go down in the books by being the first man to
ever listen to the Sirens song and live. In consequence he possibly endangers the rest of his crew
from safely reaching home by endangering himself. While Odysseus many adventures are very
exciting, he spends a considerable amount of time cheating on his wife (with... Show more content

In the time of the so called Heroic Age (roughly the Mycenaean Age, the time of the Trojan War
,
1200 1100 BCE or thereabouts) standards were much, much different, and some of them, at
least, for very good reasons. Probably by those standards (or the standards of Homer s time,
some 400 years later) Odysseus was considerably closer to a hero than he would be in our eyes
today. Perhaps, what might now be seen as grotesquely excessive blood letting, would then have
been seen as an understandable or even necessary act of retribution
Again, Odysseus darker and immoral acts could be viewed could viewed as metaphors for and/or
accurate reflections of the imperfection of the human race. Characteristics that show that heroes too
are flawed. A hero who has some shortcomings is a more believable character, they may be godly
in the sense that they do what no one else can, but that they are still only human. Drawing on this,
Odysseus can be considered a hero for modern times. He possesses admiral skills, such as
commitment and knowledge, which are still considered heroic today. He uses these traits to protect
himself and his crew as they make the long journey home. Although Odysseus is renowned for his
expertise in fighting, he is

Oedipus The King Blindness
Blind by Choice: From Dark to Light and Back Again Oedipus the King is the complex and
twisted story of a man who flees his homeland with hopes of escaping the fulfillment of a
prophecy. However, in the action of fleeing he actually collides with his fate. The images of
sight and blindness are woven throughout this drama of Oedipus search for the truth; Sophocles
repeatedly uses these two opposite ideas to expose the condition which is so often shared by a
large portion of humanity. Blindness and sight are depicted both literally and figuratively in this
Greek tragedy. Oedipus journey begins in the darkness that comes from lack of knowledge. A
person may see the truth or be blind to it just as a person may have perfect vision or no vision...

Tiresias is summoned to help Oedipus in his quest; this blind man is the one character who truly
sees the situation. The king greets the seer with compliments saying, Though your eyes can t
see it, your mind is well aware of the plague that afflicts us (366 367). The soothsayer does not
care for flattery as he realizes he never should have come to Thebes to be part of this inquiry.
Though Tiresias wishes to remain silent, the king will not relent. Oedipus grows angry with the
prophet and proclaims, Oh, truth has strength, but you have none. You have blind eyes, blind
ears, and a blind brain (446 447). The wise man attempts to resist revealing the complete
portentous truth but eventually gives warning: And you are a desperate fool throwing taunts at
me that these men, very soon, will throw at you (448 449). Even this remark fails to open the
king s eyes as he continues to insult and accuse Tiresias. The fortuneteller then describes the life
that is to come for Oedipus the king: A blind man who still has eyes, a beggar who is now rich,
he ll jab his stick, feeling the road to foreign lands (551 553). When at last Oedipus realizes he is
the murderer he set out to find, he cannot contain his rage. The king succeeds in his pursuit of the
truth, but then chooses to physically blind himself. As Oedipus

her room on page 730, and only when Annie sees her throw the key in the well at the end of the
act does she realize how difficult it will be to teach Helen. The key could also be said to
represent control and trust. In the second act, Annie locks Helen in the dining room, and, at this
point, Annie has control. In act III, however, the door is unlocked. Helen is delighted to discover
this; she hurries to the front door, opens and closes it, removes its key, opens and closes it again
to be sure it is unlocked, gropes back to the rear door and repeats the procedure, removing its key
and hugging herself gleefully. She knows they trust her now. At the end of the play, Helen gives

characters; for example, it reveals the low education level of the children and the fact that they

that they live in the South. 4.Captain Keller is an antagonist because he doesn t agree with Annie
about how to teach Helen. At the dinner scene, Captain Keller steps in to handle the conflict, but

Essay On Laparoscopic Hysterectomy
Introduction: Hysterectomy assisted by laparoscopic techniques has been used for 25 years and
recently also by a robot assisted procedure. The robot assisted procedure has been shown to have
certain advantages over conventional laparoscopic hysterectomy, as it is associated with shorter
length of stay (LOS) and fewer conversions to laparotomy 1. Both conventional laparoscopic
hysterectomy and the robot assisted procedure have many advantages over open surgery, as it
significantly reduces the need for blood transfusion as well as pain and the amount of analgesia
used 2. However, well performed studies with multimodal pain management are needed in order
to reduce the amount of opioids used and thereby reducing the well known side effects, such as
postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) 3. The transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block is
increasingly used as pain management after abdominal surgical procedures 4 7. Three studies
have evaluated the effect of TAP block after total laparoscopic hysterectomy with varying results 8

In our study we placed the TAP block just after the patient was anaesthetized, prior to surgery.
TAP block can be placed either before surgery, at the end of surgery before awakening the
patient, or as a rescue block if needed at the PACU. Placement prior to surgery has the advantage
that the transversus abdominis plane might be easier to visualize with ultrasound, as surgery can
make the ultrasound picture more blurred due to oedema. The disadvantages for placing TAP
block prior to surgery may be the time limit factor, as the duration has been described to be 8 to
24 hours in previous studies. Thus, prolonged surgery time will reduce the postoperative duration
of the block. No randomiserandomized studies comparing TAP block placed prior or after surgery

Kony 2012 Film Analysis
When a social issue arises, many activists turn to different media outlets to voice their views and
demand social change. For decades, actualities known today as documentaries, have been used
to give viewers an inside look on real life without being there to experience it firsthand. Often,
directors use these films to persuade the audience into taking their side regarding various societal
issues. Filmmakers help sway their targeted audience by using different codes and conventions to
appeal their opinion effortlessly to the viewers. It can be seen in the films Kony 2012 by director
James Russel, 2002 s Bowling for Columbine by Michael Moore and 1922 s Nanook of the North

Moore manipulates many facts throughout the documentary. For example, he edits Charlton
Heston s speech regarding his support of the second amendment, in order to make it seem as if it
was shortly after the Columbine High School shooting when in reality, it was further down the
road (Bradsaw, 2002). Furthermore, the director strategically set up an interview with Heston
while he was suffering from Parkinson s disease so he could ultimately take advantage of him
for the sake of the film (Bradsaw, 2002). While he explores many different methods, Moore often
takes on social issues in a comedic fashion to help persuade the viewers. For instance, in one clip
he uses a cartoon as a representation of the civil rights movement in the United States, amplifying
the ignorance of the counter view. Moore also uses Noddies and Reverse Questions in his
interviews to belittle the interviewee and create a more obvious argument for the audience to side
with. Lastly, Michael Moore uses video montages combined with irony to create a negative image
surrounding America s gun control laws. In this clip, Moore shows violence and terror that the
United States has been involved in, all the while playing Louis Armstrong s What a Wonderful

The Context Of South African Education In South Africa
South Africa Context
In the context of South Africa education, teachers are one of the importation pillars in the

teachers too. After restructuring of national government and education in South Africa after

Lack of adequate support system for teacher
And lack of enough quality teachers.

Analysis Of The Movie Arundel Partners
Arundel Partners wants to buy the rights to produce the sequels in advance rather than
negotiating on a film by film basis because otherwise, the studios will have an informational
advantage. Later on in the production process, studios will have a greater idea of the quality of
the film, making them less likely to sell the rights to more profitable sequels. Advanced rights to
the entire portfolio of films mitigates this informational asymmetry and creates an options
pricing model for Arundel. There is value in Arundel s right to forgo production of the sequel if
they discover that the original is a flop. If Arundel chooses to forgo producing a sequel, in this
model they are now only taking a $2M loss. To the movie studios, Arundel s proposal creates
great value. By offering the cash for all movies in advance, Arundel is providing upfront financing
to the cash hungry studios, allowing them the resources to pursue other projects, especially big
budget blockbusters that have substantial negative costs. The guaranteed profit of the sequel
rights fees abolishes some risk for the studios, even though it eliminates their potential upside. By
purchasing the rights to an entire portfolio of films from the studios, it also serves Arundel to
diversify away the risks of individual films, much like investing in diversified funds of market
indexes. Based on the attached analysis, 26 of the 99 potential sequels are profitable to pursue as
they have a positive NPV. The NPV of the

Exercises to Alleviate a Separated Rectus Essays
Although common in postpartum women, a separated rectus, also known as diastasis recti, can
also occur in obese individuals and in children up to 2 years of age. (See References 1, p. 337)
This condition occurs when there s a separation between the right and left side of the rectus
abdominis muscle. This can trigger pelvic and back pain, and make it hard to stabilize the trunk.
(See References 2) Although it can correct itself, targeted exercisecan lend a helping hand.
Things to Consider

Child Abuse and it s Role in Bastard Out of Carolina by...
While reading the semi autobiographical, Bastard Out of Carolina, by Dorothy Allison, I was

protagonist named, Ruth Anne Bone Boatwright. Bone s family, like that of the author,

It was not until the early 1870s that child abuse was first brought into light. The Child Protection
Movement started with the news of one eight year old orphan named Mary Ellen Wilson. After
the passing of her biological mother and father, Mary Ellen was left in the care of her biological
father s widow, Mary McCormack Connolly. Mrs. McCormack Connolly badly mistreated Mary
Ellen, and neighbors in the building were well aware of the child s predicament (Mary Ellen
Wilson, 2013). It was not until Etta Angell Wheeler, a caring Methodist mission worker, visited the
residence and noticed Mary Ellen s condition. Ms. Wheeler describes her first meeting with Mary
Ellen, as such:
It was December and the weather bitterly cold. She was a tiny mite, the size of five years,
though, as afterward appeared, she was then nine. From a pan set upon a low stool she stood
washing dishes, struggling with a frying pan about as heavy as herself. Across the table lay a
brutal whip of twisted leather strands and the child s meagre arms and legs bore many marks of
its use. But the saddest part of her story was written on her face in its look of suppression and
misery, the face of a child unloved, of a child that had seen only the fearsome side of life. These
things I saw while seeming not to see, and I left without speaking to, or of, the child. I never

to that time, many business used terms such as operation management and logistics, and supply
Chain management can be defined as : A supply chain consist of all stages involved, directly or
indirectly, in fulfilling a customer request. The supply chain not only includes the manufacturer and
supplier, but also transporters, warehouses, retailers and customer themselves
A general view on recent technologies in order fulfillment and delivery:
As the technology reaches a new level of development and with the continuous growth of
customers or consumers expectations, many companies are competing to provide the best way to
ease the process of ordering and fulfillment while achieving a maximum customer satisfaction,
even the responsibilities, and roles in the actual companies have changed and nowadays became
bigger and more specific (Ross, 2003). Supply chain now became more complex than before, it is
clear that the tradition of watching and monitoring the delivery or goods

Twentieth Century America
Faderman takes a decidedly social constructionist analysis as she examines lesbian life in Twentieth
Century America, arguing from the start that its definition has less to do with innate same sex
attraction than with external sociopolitical influences. It is apparent that in the debate between the
essentialist lesbians and existentially lesbians she offers no apologies (and plenty of reasons) in
siding with the latter. Not only does she explore how the sub culture continually responds to
external pressures such as conservative politics and institutional biases but deeply analyzes how
then the community expands and contracts to its marginalization and oppression. For instance, she
describes numerous times (such as the butch/femme role enactment and the demand for a regulated
sexual intercourse between women in the 1970 s) when the lesbian community and corresponding
social movement enacts various border patrolling and internal policing to maintain its strict identity
as women to keep the pressure and agents of the patriarchy outside. It is this policing and its
motives I find so applicable to my work. The lesbian community has undergone many tribulations as

Faderman notes in her conclusion that the lesbian culture/social movement has been evolving
(noting its different iterations throughout the 20th Century) she cannot imagine this metamorphosis
encapsulating transsexual lesbians. It seems that, much like those lesbian/cultural feminists she
critiques, she too has fallen victim inside an essentialist version of the

Maxwell Equations Essay
when attached to a solenoid it gives it a lot of power to do things like power houses. The solenoid
makes the electromagnetic field stronger causing it to do more and bigger tasks.
Multiple scientist developed theories about electromagnetism. One of the most popular ones is the
Maxwell Equations. The Maxwell equations are equations explaining electromagnetism and how it
works. These equations were formed by different equations and experiments. According to (Gale,
2001, WWW)Albert Einstein James Clerk Maxwell set the platform for physics and future
scientists. Maxwell s theories were opposite from what other people thought. MaxwellВґs theories
also didn t have a lot of mistakes but there were quite a few mistakes in the velocity area. Maxwell s

Haiti Economic Growth Essay
Most modern sources agree that the French anthropologist Alfred Sauvy coined the term third world
in an article published in the French magazine L Observateur, on August 14, 1952. Although, the
expression was first used in prerevolutionary France to identify the lowest ruling class, the phrase
became popular after World War II. It seems clear that the wealthy Caribbean island Haiti, which
gained its independence from France in 1804, and had experienced some real economic growth
should also be enjoying real economic development in the twenty first century. What is not clear is
how and why the island s economic growth and social development has placed Haiti the twentieth

While, Haiti economy revolves around agriculture, forestry, fishing, mining, minerals and gold
there has been little economic growth and economic development to match the United States

the Americas after the United States to gain its independence.
Payne and Nassar tell us in chapter six of Politics and culture in the developing world that the real
challenge of economic development is in improving the quality of the peoples lives. This
development occurs with economic growth.
Growth is usually associated with the development of natural resources and the construction of an
infrastructure to effectively utilize those resources. As countries mine copper, produce petroleum,
manufacture steel, grow and process agricultural products, and make automobiles, they also build
roads, bridges, ports, airports, railways, and lighthouses; develop communication networks;
generate electricity; and provide reliable mail service, water, and medical services. The

Cause And Effect Of California Drought
California residents are beginning to feel the effects of the worst drought ever recorded in
history. Wells are drying up, unexpected fires, and decreasing groundwater water levels are
leaving Californians desperate in creating and putting in motion new water rationing projects for
the whole state. The cause for the drought is just Man made, Carly Fiorina, former Hewlett
Packard executive stated . More and more lawns statewide are being ripped apart and replaced
by fake grass to cut down water usage forcibly from the residents. Lakes that used to be
overflowing with rich water are now nothing but a puddle of water waiting to dry up. This tragic

Simply meaning identifying general social patterns in the behavior of an individual. He also
came up with, seeing the strange in the particular, which is the sociological perspective that
society shapes what we should think and do. In sociology society has its own origins in powerful
social forces. A main contributor to sociology is Emile Durkheim s, his research showed that
society affects even our most personal choices, whether it be what we want to do in life
determining if it is the best for ourselves and the society.
Society affects our personal choices because we are expected to live up to or embrace the norms
of society. Our personal choices might be reflective of what we embrace, however it might not be
what society deems to be ethical. An example that Durkheim focused on was suicide, society mostly
influenced men, mainly Protestants, the rich and unmarried causing them to commit suicide.
Having to live up to society s expectations can cause a lot of pressure on an individual leaving
them no choice to try and escape from the stress finding a solution which might be best to them

Fifa Women s World Cup Essay
Thirty million dollars, that s what the German National Soccer team made last year for winning the
World Cup. The World Cup is one of the most prestigious accomplishments in any sport. The
players in the World Cup are some of the hardest working, highest paid athletes in the world. These
players are paid tremendous amounts of money by their club, their country, and FIFA. However this
is not the only World Cup, on a different four year rotation is the FIFA Women s World Cup. The
women in the World Cup are treated as inferior because of their gender in terms of payment,
respect and also treated poorly by their own governing body.
The FIFA Women s World Cup started in 1991 as a twelve team tournament. It has since expanded
to a 24 team tournament that features tremendous athletic ability and intense competition. The
United States has won the Women s World Cup three times, more than any other country, and is
currently recognized by FIFA as the best team in the world.
The Federation International de Football Association, FIFA, or in English the International
Federation of Association Football, is the governing body of soccer and soccer related games, such
as futsal and beach soccer. FIFA is a non profit organization with the responsibility of governing
the game of soccer by making the laws of the game, overseeing club and national completion, and
organizing championships. FIFA is also in charge of both the men and women s world cups. For

First Amendment Right To Wield His Banner Essay
Did Frederick have a First Amendment right to wield his banner, and was Principal Morse in the
right to confiscate his banner? After reviewing the facts of the case, it is without a doubt that
Morse is innocent, of any violations of Frederick s First Amendment rights and she had every
right to confiscate and punish Frederick for his actions. Joseph Frederick, a senior at Juneau
Douglas High School, attended the school approved and school monitored social event of the
Olympic Torch Relay. Frederick was late to school that day, and upon arrival, he joined his
friends (all but one were students at JDHS) across the street from the school to watch the event.

This banner to some could be seen as offensive, and Morse has the choice to either take action, or
to allow this banner and face consequences. She chose to take action, and uphold the school s
policy. Fredericks banner violated the school s policy. It promoted the use of illegal drugs, and
although Frederick arrived late to school, he still arrived at a school event, monitored by school
officials, who in turn were in charge of him. Schools have the right to confiscate any item that
violates their policies, and Frederick s displaying of his banner was violating a policy. Although
Frederick does have the First Amendment right to wield his banner, the school policy clearly
states that nothing promoting illegal drugs is allowed. If Frederick was attending an event not
approved or monitored by the school, he would have been free to display whatever he wished. Just
because Frederick had the first Amendment right, schools do not have to tolerate any actions or
expressions that could contribute to any dangers of their students, such as illegal drug use. In
conclusion, Principal Morse had the right to take away Frederick s banner, and is innocent of any
violation of Frederick s First Amendment

controls the world. Religion is believed to have many different meanings to different people. The
definition of religion varies but the common definition is people in an organization that to
worship together and have the same beliefs. It is also viewed a system of belief that worships a
God or gods, prayer, and moral code. In this paper, you will read explanation of how religious

Christians use churches as their sacred place to worship God, the Creator. Worship day is mostly
on Sundays. Other religions like Buddhism, believe their sacred place to be eternal, which means
there is no beginning or end. Buddhists uses temples to worship. The Buddhist temples were
created to symbolize the five elements of Buddhism. The elements are air, water, fire, earth, and
wisdom. The sacred space or place defines peace within a religion (Molloy, 2010).
A relationship with each other is the male and female roles of religion. The gender is used to
define a person and is a critical part of being human. What is considered to be male or female gives
another basis for comparing religions. The dominate role of many religions are considered to be a
male imagery.
The key characteristics of religion are made up of eight elements. The belief system is a
worldview of several beliefs. The community is a shared belief system where ideals are praised in
a group setting. Central myths are stories retold or reenacted through religious beliefs. Rituals are
beliefs that are enacted and made real through ceremonies. Ethics are rules and social guidelines of
human behavior from supernatural realm. Characteristic emotional experiences are emotions of
guilt, mystery, awe, conversion, devotion and rebirth, that deal with religion. Material expression is

How Does Roark Have Integrity
In Ayn Rand s The Fountainhead, the protagonist Howard Roark is an idealistic architect
struggling to create modern structures in the face of those stuck in the ways of the past. This
novel calls into question the practicality of morality, and whether or not it inhibits personal and
social growth. Roark s character ties together independence and integrity to create a man who is
successful even when defying social norms. These two qualities are perceived by Rand as ideal
for human beings, which is why Roark is eventually successful in his endeavors to create his
designs. Roark s independence reflects Rand s preference of individualism to collectivism, as no
one person should be thought for nor should he think for others. Through his journey, Roark learns
from others like Henry Cameron, but in the end, he must create solely for himself, not for others.

Integrity first requires an individual to hold beliefs and act upon them, refusing to sacrifice these
beliefs for others. Every man must be held accountable for his own thoughts and actions, which
includes defending these thoughts and actions. To be free of integrity means one lacks true morals
and is cowardly, a view Rand opposes. Roark epitomizes Rand s belief as he faces against pressures
from corporations and public opinions to design his perfect building. He unwaveringly chooses to
pursue his building designs because Roark knows standing behind his building will ultimately bring
him more satisfaction than if he caved to others. Characters like Ellsworth Toohey and Gail
Wynand attempt to control others through their social influences as writers but end up controlled
by public opinions, resulting in the loss of their careers and more. Their lack of integrity stems
from the inability to think for themselves, and ultimately they cannot function independently like

Comparing Herodotus s The Sea And Essay
Herodotus is accused by Edward Said to be progenitor of Orientalism. Regardless of this
indictment, Said fails to observe the fundamental nature of Herodotus s division of the world.
Accordingly, he describes the world in the binary of East and West. I contend that this ideal is
unfounded in Herodotus s text, and instead, the known world of Herodotus was quartered. Hence,
by edification of Greekness and it following anomalies
Furthermore, these delusions are refuted by the agreement texts of Redfield s Herodotus the tourist

Before on embarking on Said misconceptions anent Herodotus, he avails himself of Euripides The
Bacchae and Aeschylus s The Persians, which he argues in The two aspects of the Orient that set it
off from the West in this pair of plays which are the catalysts of Orientalism, and accordingly,
neither are Herodotean texts. Nonetheless, I will refute the occasions he to greater degree implicitly
examines Herodotus.

School Tryout Essay
There has long been a disagreement about whether schools should hold tryouts for competitive
sports teams, for the reason that many people hold varying opinions on this issue. Despite the fact
that an incredible amount of citizens believe that students should be allowed to participate in
athletics without trying out, numerous people disagree with that position. Some people argue that
tryouts are a traditional way to choose the best students on the spot, or instead, tryouts could result
as an emotional breakdown. But the truth of the matter is that students should be trying out for a
competitive sport team. One main reason is that having tryouts allows students to push to try

Without tryouts, students wouldn t learn that not everything is handed to them for free. This is
why schools need to permit tryouts.
Another reason schools should execute tryouts is because if it weren t for tryouts, there would be
too many students on a team, and it can be chaotic. According to Dr. Allen Goldberg, he states, If
there s too many kids on one team, kids won t get the fair amount of playing time that they deserve.
(Goldberg, 2015). Skeptics believe that every student (either an advanced or average youth athlete)
should get the equivalent amount of playing time during a game, yet many disagree with the
opinion. Sharing play time with average students is unfair to children who are highly skilled in
this certain sport. For example, a spontaneous youth athlete can work very hard during practices,
while other athletes could slack off during the process. It is unfair to the athletes who are
concentrated during practices to share play time with students who do not work for the win at all.
They deserve the appropriate amount of playtime because they ve worked so hard during practices
for the particular game. This is also very huge because coaches want the most skilled children on
the team so they can achieve the gold. This is why tryouts should be handled with competitive
sports teams. Additionally, Budgets aren t large enough to cover all costs players need. (Matz,
2015). This statement shows that

Evolution Of The Internet And Network Protocols
The Evolution of the Internet and Network Protocols The internet has revolutionized the modern
world like no other invention has before, except perhaps, electricity. The internet allows sharing
and collaboration to take place between people on opposite sides of the globe. Vinton G. Cerf,
often called the Father of the Internet , admits that when the original idea of an intranet was in
its infancy, there was no possible way to imagine all of the ways we would come to use it
(NDTV, 2013). But how does it work? The internet, based on the concept of packet switching ,
involves the travelling of small packets of data over one or more networks (Frenzel, 2013). This
can be compared to electronic postcards , meaning that a computer generates a piece of data and
flings it into the net, just like the postal system, except 100 million times faster (Cerf, 2013).
This concept allows one computer to speak to many different computers around the network by
sending out these electronic postcards . However, before these networks can work seamlessly
together, they must use a common protocol, or set of rules for transmitting and receiving these
packets of data. There are several protocols currently in use, including the OSI Model, the TCP/IP
Model, UDP, HTTP, and FDP (Mitchell, 2014), but the most commonly used is Transmission
Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) (Gilmer, 2011). Even as early as 1977, TCP/IP was
being used by other networks to link to ARPANET (Kozierok,

Hillary Clinton Women s Rights Are Human Rights Speech...
In the past, women didn t have as many rights as men. They were seen as men s possessions who
were only allowed to cook, clean, and make babies. Women weren t allowed as many privileges
as men such as voting. But as the years went by, changes were made. Women were granted many
of the same privileges as men, but they were still being mistreated in some perspectives. On
September 5, 1995 in Beijing, China, Hillary Clinton delivered a speech about this issue at the
United NationsFourth World Conference for Women in front of 180 countries. Her speech was
called Women s Rights are Human Rights. She gave this speech to express her concern over the
mistreatment women have been facing. Clinton directed her speech to governments and other
organizations to argue why they need to help improve women s rights. Clinton uses ethos, pathos,
and logos to persuade her audience that women should be treated equally. Clinton uses ethos in
her speech to persuade her audience by showing them your credibility. Ethos is an effective way
to persuade an audience. This helps to show the audience that the speaker knows what they re
talking about. As First Lady and Senator, Clinton shows she has credibility on the topic by saying
Over the past 25 years, I have worked persistently on issues relating to women, children, and
families. Over the past two and a half years. I ve has the opportunity to learn more about the
challenges facing women in my own country and around the world (Clinton 2).

  • 2. Clara Barton Physical Description I got to know my saint, Clarissa Harlow Barton through a variety of mediums. These included books from the Regis College library as well as online articles, poems, biography videos and documentaries. Along with these various sources I found through my research images of Clara. These images ranged from self portraits at different ages in her life to her working in the field as well as teaching students in a classroom. Clarissa Harlow Barton was born on December 25th of 1821, in North Oxford, Massachusetts which was located 50 miles West of Boston. Her parents were Stephen and Sarah Barton and her four siblings were Dorothea,Stephen, David, and Sally. Her and her siblings grew up in a middle class household and earned enough money that her... She was described as short, plump, and homely, she had yet to gain the character that would render her face so interesting according to her parents and siblings. Clara s mother also neglected the child s thick lustrous dark brown hair which was noted to be her one good feature. Her hair was close cropped which only served to emphasize her broad forehead and sallow complexion. Along with this, Clara had a speech impediment which caused her to lisp and this lead to increasing her bashfulness. Due to all of these difficult things Clara had to deal with on a daily basis, her timidness grew to be excessive. Clara s mother regarded her daughter as shy and troublesome as well as difficult to manage this attitude only reinforced Clara s own sense of being a burden. As she began to grow older, Clara gained a particular interest in helping others that could not help themselves and directly alleviating sickness or trouble. Her brother David grew extremely ill and sought to his sister for help. She spent large amounts of time trying to nurse her brother back to health. Clara refused to leave his side for nearly two years and acquiescing to his demands that she alone administer his medicine. Despite all of her relief Clara sensed a ... • 4. Knuckleball Research Paper MLB breaking balls can easily be the hardest pitches to throw. You have to have a certain grip on the ball. You have to have a certain throwing motion to be able to make them break/move. You also need to be able to throw the ball at the right speed and the speed with your arm motion has to be a certain speed as well. There are three breaking balls that can make or break a pitcher in the MLB. The first pitch that I will talk about is the knuckleball. Knuckleballs are one of the hardest pitches to consistently control because it seems to just float in the air and can t be easily placed. The NPR says, throw the knuckleball a pitch that can make even the best hitters look helpless. The knuckleball is a crazy pitch that can trick many batters,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The most important finger to be able to throw the curveball is the middle finger. The pitcher will find a seam that will give resistance to the middle finger to get more control and spin on the ball. This is how the spin on the curveball is so tight. According to Steven Ellis, The throwing elbow must be equal to or slightly above the throwing shoulder. You must stay over the top when you throw the curveball. Throwing it when it s under your shoulder then you put additional stress on your arm. Also if the arm is at an angle larger than 90 degrees then it also puts additional stress on your arm. The placement of your arm will be alot closer to your head then you re normal fastball. It will be slightly up and away from your ear. When you release the curveball you want to release it out in front of you. The way you release the ball is the type of action you want the pitch to have. When releasing a curveball, your wrist will be hooked and your hand will pull down in front of your body, says Steven Ellis. The further you release the ball from your head, the less grip you will have on the ball, resulting in a looser spin on your pitch. It is extremely important that you maintain similar arm speed with your curveball that you have with your fastball. A hitter reads arm speed. says Steven ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Cross Dressing Cross dressing is considered one of society s abnormal ideas because of stereotypical gender roles. Stereotypical gender roles are stated as, biological females are feminine and biological males are masculine. Cross dressing does not represent the gender specific roles; in which men and women are suppose to follow. The idea of men and women acting and dressing like their opposite sex is unacceptable to the reality that they face. The movie The Bird Cage supports the idea that society s stereotypical views on cross dressing remains unchanged. Society is not understanding of what is considered different from the normal. The stereotype that men are masculine and women are feminine is not the reality of genderversus sex. In Sexual... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Back in the 19th century women were not allowed anything else except a dress. Society can accept this change because of the influence of time and the boldness of women. In The Bird Cage, Louise Keeley (the senator s wife) makes a great example of how society only perceives what it wants to perceive. Why, it looks like young men playing leapfrog!...Is it Greek? In reality Louise Keeley is look at a piece of china with pornographic pictures of young men. Louise Keeley does not see what is really there because she blinds herself in order to shield herself from what is considered immoral and in a sense horrible. Society also tries to hide and shield themselves from situations that they do not like, such as homosexuals, homeless people, cross dressers, etc. Just because society wants to blind itself, does not mean that these people do not exist. Cross dressing is viewed as wrong in the eyes of a stereotypical society. Biological men and women are supposed to be masculine and feminine respectively. Cross dressing is not considered a norm in society. This idea is seen through the movie The Bird Cage. In reality sex does not determine gender, as represented by Brian Pronger in Sexual Mythologies. Therefore sex cannot determine gender, but society will always view what it wants to see. Unless society can learn to accept people for who they are and what they wear, then we will have a truly have a society where there are no ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. The Effects Of Living At Walden Essay In 1854, Henry David Thoreau gave us what would become his most famous non fiction book, Walden; or life in the Woods. In this, Thoreau describes his project at Walden Pond near Concord, Massachusetts. Thoreau decided that he was going to live deliberately in the woods for over two years and live off of a limited economy and isolate himself from society in order to gain a more objective understanding of it. But one has to ask the question, what does Thoreau mean that he wants to live deliberately ? Thoreau himself said that he wanted to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. When I see on the one side the inert bank, for the sun acts on one side first, and on the other this luxuriant foliage, the creation of an hour, I am affected as if in a peculiar sense I stood in the laboratory of the Artist who made the world and me, had come to where he was still at work, sporting on this bank, and with excess of energy strewing his fresh designs about. Well, they re right to a certain degree, however, a cell phone is so much more than just that and they don t even realize it. Instead of thinking of a phone as a type of device, people everywhere should realize what it really is, a necessity. A necessity is something that people have to have in an everyday life. In today s society, cell phones are used every single day, all around the world. They have became a very important aspect in lives, and to make it throughout each day, citizens have to have a cell phone. Phones are used for school, work, money, safety, and so much more. Cell phones make things quick and they re convenient. A cell phone is definitely a have to have in life today. They are used for essentially everything. Transsexual and transgendered celebrities have also spoke about the necessity to display the perfect body because they were born men, and have to exceed women, when speaking about beauty, just to fit in. Everyone loves to use the Kardashians as an example so why not. Kim Kardashian from Keeping Up With The Kardashians is known for her perfect hour glass figure with large breasts, a tiny waist, and bigger than average booty (and yes I said booty!). • 16. Changes In Renaissance Culture The Renaissance was a pivotal time coming out of Medieval Europe that was full of many changes and advancements. Budding out of Italy, this change of society spread throughout Europe and caused a drastic change of culture. One huge difference between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance was the difference of lifestyle and self value. A huge reason for this change was the rise of humanism. Humanism is a doctrine, attitude, or way of life centered on human interests or values (Merriam Webster). The rise of humanism during the Renaissancecaused an increased pursuit of knowledge, less devout religion, and huge growth in the popularity and purchase of art. Humanism began in Florence, Italy. It involved bringing back the lifestyles of Classical Rome and Greece. Because of this, education was highly valued again which caused many more people to learn how to read and write (Ketchum and Plumb). The ideal man at this time was a man who was multitalented, a well rounded man intellectually and artistically. The term Renaissance Man... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead of showing their devotion by swearing their lives to poverty, people would read, write, and even paint or play music (Rabil 210 218). The Reformation also went hand in hand with humanism. People were more focused on being individuals and learning on their own, so religious views of many changed when Martin Luther and John Calvin were professing ideas about the bible being the ultimate answer rather than the pope. • 18. Why The Penny Should Be Abolished Essay A penny saved is a penny earned, to quote Benjamin Franklin. Unfortunately a penny saved is not worth a whole lot anymore. Like many other once useful things the penny has become obsolete. The production and use of the penny in the United States monetary system should be abolished. Eliminating the penny would not be the first time the U.S. has abolished a small denomination. For example the half cent coin was eliminated in 1857 with little to no trouble. This was due to the half cent s production cost exceeding its face value similar to the penny right now. Also the half cent was deemed no longer necessary in purchases just as the penny is no longer necessary today. One reason why the penny should be abolished is because more and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Penny candy and similar selling strategies or products do not exist anymore. Not to mention what used to be worth one cent forty five years ago costs ten cents today. Over time the value of the penny has depreciated with inflation rendering them useless. Furthermore, since the penny cannot function on its own in a purchase the production of the penny is pointless. A third reason why the penny should be abolished is because it is a time waster. When making a purchase and an annoying penny is needed, precious seconds are wasted digging in pockets or purses. In a culture where time is money, why is an annoyance like the penny still used. The penny is a timewaster and its use and production should be halted immediately. Finally a fourth reason why the penny should be abolished is because its production cost exceeds its face value. The U.S. Mint is losing money, as it costs 1.5 cents to manufacture a one cent penny. This results in the U.S. Mint losing millions of dollars per year. For example, in 2016, the U.S. Mint lost $46 million dollars by producing pennies. This makes no sense logically. Why would you manufacture a product that you can not make a profit ... Blake s The Marriage of Heaven and Hell Essay Blake s The Marriage of Heaven and Hell The Nature of my Work is Visionary or Imaginative; it is an Endeavor to Restore what the Ancients calld the Golden Age. William Blake (Johnson/Grant,xxiv). William Blake completed the manuscript of The Marriage of Heaven and Hell, as well as the twenty five accompanying engraved plates, in 1792. In the sense that the The Marriage of Heaven and Hell is a vision of a particular version of reality, it subscribes to one definition of the mythic, but also fulfills another as Birenbaum writes in Tragedy and Innocence: ...on a more specialized level... true myth ...suggests a penentration to the essential nature of human experience, made by conspicuously violating features ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Blake uses traditional symbols of angels and devils, animal imagery, and especially images of fire and flame to: 1) set up a dual world, a confrontation of opposites or contraries which illustrate how the rules of Reason and Religion repress and pervert the basic creative energy of humanity, 2) argues for apocalyptic transformation of the self through the radical regeneration of each person s own power to imagine (Johnson/Grant, xxiv), and 3) reconstructs Man in a new image, a fully realized Man who is both rational and imaginative, partaking of his divinity through creativity. The form of the poem consists of The Argument, expositions on his concepts of the contraries and of expanded perception which are both interspersed with Memorable Fancies that explicate and enlarge on his expositions, and concludes with A Song of Liberty, a prophecy of a future heaven on earth. Without Contraries is no progression. Attraction and Repulsion, reason and Energy, Love and Hate, are necessary to Human existence. From these contraries spring what the religious call Good Evil. Good is the passive that obeys Reason. Evil is the active springing from Energy. Good is Heaven. Evil is Hell. (MHH, pp. 66 7) One of the main themes of The Marriage of Heaven and Hell is the confrontation of the grand oppositions of orthodox Christian doctrine: Heaven and Hell, good and evil,

However, what really impressed me was the slightly philosophical and emotional quota in the book. The author intelligently introduces plot twists to explore the question of how would an android construct its identity. Since, the android is essentially built of metal and wires, is it right to assume that it is non living, even though it is made to resemble human life as closely as possible. • 24. Excessive Survivalism Is A Sport Excessive survivalism is a sport in when athletes are obsessed with winning and will do anything to achieve that goal of winning. Players will find ways to bend the rules or cheat just to achieve the victory over their opponent. The need to win games will overrule the player s morals and beliefs as a person. This is a huge problem athletes face when it comes to sports. They become so obsessed with winning that it becomes the only objective they focus on. Some athletes even put their health at risk. In some cases athletes will sustain an injury and will not let the team know so they can take the proper protocol just so they can they can stay in the game. In other cases, a player may do something that is considered dirty or against the rules just to get the edge over their opponent, and that might not be how the player is as a person outside of their sport but when it comes to the game they will do anything they need to do survive and win. Runaway individualism in sports is when a player is all about their self. Players that tend to have runaway individualism are the ones who are only worried about their own success instead of team success. These players do not look at their team as a family, they see their teammates as individuals who they just have to share the field or court with. These players usually do not have a stable home, they bounce around from team to team because they are labeled as selfish players. A perfect example of runaway individualism is when ... Odysseus is Not a Hero for the Modern Age Essay Many would argue that Odysseus is more of a villain nowadays, for every instance of his wiliness or feats of strength there are several of venality, vice, cruelty, or selfishness. The episode of the Sirens,(Book 12), is one example. The only reason Odysseus ties himself up to the mast, when instead he could have simply plugged his ears with wax like the rest of his crew, is that he chooses the jeopardous choice, wanting to go down in the books by being the first man to ever listen to the Sirens song and live. The robot assisted procedure has been shown to have certain advantages over conventional laparoscopic hysterectomy, as it is associated with shorter length of stay (LOS) and fewer conversions to laparotomy 1. Both conventional laparoscopic hysterectomy and the robot assisted procedure have many advantages over open surgery, as it significantly reduces the need for blood transfusion as well as pain and the amount of analgesia used 2. However, well performed studies with multimodal pain management are needed in order to reduce the amount of opioids used and thereby reducing the well known side effects, such as postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) 3. Analysis Of The Movie Arundel Partners Arundel Partners wants to buy the rights to produce the sequels in advance rather than negotiating on a film by film basis because otherwise, the studios will have an informational advantage. Later on in the production process, studios will have a greater idea of the quality of the film, making them less likely to sell the rights to more profitable sequels. Advanced rights to the entire portfolio of films mitigates this informational asymmetry and creates an options pricing model for Arundel. There is value in Arundel s right to forgo production of the sequel if they discover that the original is a flop. If Arundel chooses to forgo producing a sequel, in this model they are now only taking a $2M loss. To the movie studios, Arundel s proposal creates great value. By offering the cash for all movies in advance, Arundel is providing upfront financing to the cash hungry studios, allowing them the resources to pursue other projects, especially big budget blockbusters that have substantial negative costs. This can trigger pelvic and back pain, and make it hard to stabilize the trunk. (See References 2) Although it can correct itself, targeted exercisecan lend a helping hand. Things to Consider Abdominal exercise, such as traditional crunches and situps, aren t going to correct a separated rectus. More so, they can worsen the condition, and make your tummy bulge out. • 39. Child Abuse and it s Role in Bastard Out of Carolina by... While reading the semi autobiographical, Bastard Out of Carolina, by Dorothy Allison, I was stunned by the explicit nature of the novel. We were introduced to a young narrator and protagonist named, Ruth Anne Bone Boatwright. Bone s family, like that of the author, experienced a impoverished life, all the while she tried to find her place in a society that had literally labeled her illegitimate. Merriam Webster defines illegitimate as being: (1) not recognized as lawful offspring; specifically: born of parents not married to each other (2) not rightly deduced or inferred illogical (3) departing for the regular erratic (4) not sanctioned by law illegal (5) not authorized by good usage. The Child Protection Movement started with the news of one eight year old orphan named Mary Ellen Wilson. After the passing of her biological mother and father, Mary Ellen was left in the care of her biological father s widow, Mary McCormack Connolly. Mrs. McCormack Connolly badly mistreated Mary Ellen, and neighbors in the building were well aware of the child s predicament (Mary Ellen Wilson, 2013). It was not until Etta Angell Wheeler, a caring Methodist mission worker, visited the residence and noticed Mary Ellen s condition. Ms. Wheeler describes her first meeting with Mary Ellen, as such: It was December and the weather bitterly cold. She was a tiny mite, the size of five years, though, as afterward appeared, she was then nine. From a pan set upon a low stool she stood washing dishes, struggling with a frying pan about as heavy as herself. Across the table lay a brutal whip of twisted leather strands and the child s meagre arms and legs bore many marks of its use. But the saddest part of her story was written on her face in its look of suppression and misery, the face of a child unloved, of a child that had seen only the fearsome side of life. These things I saw while seeming not to see, and I left without speaking to, or of, the child. I never ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Twentieth Century America Faderman takes a decidedly social constructionist analysis as she examines lesbian life in Twentieth Century America, arguing from the start that its definition has less to do with innate same sex attraction than with external sociopolitical influences. It is apparent that in the debate between the essentialist lesbians and existentially lesbians she offers no apologies (and plenty of reasons) in siding with the latter. Not only does she explore how the sub culture continually responds to external pressures such as conservative politics and institutional biases but deeply analyzes how then the community expands and contracts to its marginalization and oppression. For instance, she describes numerous times (such as the butch/femme role enactment and the demand for a regulated sexual intercourse between women in the 1970 s) when the lesbian community and corresponding social movement enacts various border patrolling and internal policing to maintain its strict identity as women to keep the pressure and agents of the patriarchy outside. According to Dr. Allen Goldberg, he states, If there s too many kids on one team, kids won t get the fair amount of playing time that they deserve. (Goldberg, 2015). Skeptics believe that every student (either an advanced or average youth athlete) should get the equivalent amount of playing time during a game, yet many disagree with the opinion. Sharing play time with average students is unfair to children who are highly skilled in this certain sport. For example, a spontaneous youth athlete can work very hard during practices, while other athletes could slack off during the process. It is unfair to the athletes who are concentrated during practices to share play time with students who do not work for the win at all. They deserve the appropriate amount of playtime because they ve worked so hard during practices for the particular game. This is also very huge because coaches want the most skilled children on the team so they can achieve the gold. This is why tryouts should be handled with competitive sports teams. • 53. Evolution Of The Internet And Network Protocols The Evolution of the Internet and Network Protocols The internet has revolutionized the modern world like no other invention has before, except perhaps, electricity. The internet allows sharing and collaboration to take place between people on opposite sides of the globe. Vinton G. Cerf, often called the Father of the Internet , admits that when the original idea of an intranet was in its infancy, there was no possible way to imagine all of the ways we would come to use it (NDTV, 2013). But how does it work? The internet, based on the concept of packet switching , involves the travelling of small packets of data over one or more networks (Frenzel, 2013). This can be compared to electronic postcards , meaning that a computer generates a piece of data and flings it into the net, just like the postal system, except 100 million times faster (Cerf, 2013). This concept allows one computer to speak to many different computers around the network by sending out these electronic postcards . However, before these networks can work seamlessly together, they must use a common protocol, or set of rules for transmitting and receiving these packets of data. There are several protocols currently in use, including the OSI Model, the TCP/IP Model, UDP, HTTP, and FDP (Mitchell, 2014), but the most commonly used is Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) (Gilmer, 2011).
