O No worries about infringing on copyrights!
O Accessibility – available to all
O Affordability – costs less for students than
traditional textbooks
O Materials can be easily adapted and
contextualized to meet one’s needs
O Opportunities for educators and institutions to
easily publish their own materials

3. Disadvantages
O Accessibility – free and available to all…those
with technology & internet access
O Language & Culture Barriers – most resources
are currently only available in English
O Quality – materials may not always be accurate,
consistent, or up-to-date
O Time – requires more investment from teachers to
locate, adapt, and organize materials
O No Compensation – contributors aren’t really
compensated for all of their time and work
