Advantages And Disadvantages Of DSLR
Introduction:
DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) cameras have redefined motion picture photography. Today they
offer more than what we ever thought off. Technological revolutions have swept the world like
never before and today, a camera stands for more than just a tool to capture family functions. Who
knew that major feature films and television shows would eventually start shooting with cameras
that primarily marketed for consumers and prosumers?
The "movie mode" of a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera is a revolutionary movie making
technology as important like the invention of emulsion and colour film in photography, 16mm and
35mm films for motion picture photography. Nikon D90 is the first DSLR to introduce video
recording facility. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is nothing like an all–purpose lens. Each lens is suitable for a particular purpose.
Each lens has some pro and cons.
Different lenses render how we perceive the subject and setting descriptively, emotionally and
aesthetically. Different lenses give the freedom of choosing the angle of view according to the
subject and are measured by the focal length. Focal length of a DSLR camera is the distance
between the optical centre of a lens to the imaging sensor when the lens is focused at infinity.
The two main choices of a film maker while choosing lens is either a prime lens (lens with a fixed
focal length) or a zoom lens (lens with a variable focal length). For narrative film making prime
lenses are best. Prime lenses are faster as compared to zoom lenses. Fast refers to the maximum
opening (aperture) of the lens. Fast lenses (such as f/1.4 or f/1.8) allow shooting in low lighting
conditions. Fast lenses allow capturing footage with a dramatically shallow depth of field. It gives
more visual versatility. Prime lenses have fewer lens elements and give good sharp images in
comparison to zoom lenses. For documentaries zoom lenses are better for their flexibility in creating

AAcademy Ratio Of 1.37
Prenom Carmen uses a academy ratio of 1.37:1. Starting with the first shot, it begins with a man,
named Uncle Jean, in the hospital staring out of the window. Godard's use of a middle lense, a
straight–on camera angle along with high key lighting all made the visuals seem somewhat muted.
The colors are all "soft" or "subdued" with no other prominent lighting effects in this first shot. Yet
while the visuals does not necessarily capture my attention, Godard's use of sound and framing
certainly does.
Godard uses framing and sound in conjunction to switch between offscreen and onscreen diegetic
sounds. Starting with the beginning of the first shot, the incredibly loud knock on the door
(offscreen diegetic) and Uncle Jean yelling, "Where am I?" (onscreen diegetic) as he moves from
the right of the frame to the center. The image size of the first scene is a medium long shot as I
noticed that only the knees and up are shown. I then hear two offscreen diegetic sounds of a woman
laughing with her high heels walking towards the frame. As the woman finally walks into the frame
and identifies herself as "Carmen" she bends down and kisses the man. Carmen then kisses
(onscreen diegetic) Uncle Jean, the sound of the kiss is also noticeably loud.
Carmen begins to walk out of frame and when she is out of frame, the non diegetic score kicks in
and then fades away for a brief moment to let Carmen and Uncle Jean talk. All of this happens as
Uncle Jean stays in the middle of the frame.

Analysis of the Graduate Essay
The Graduate is a great example of a film where lens and camera choices were used effectively to
convey the director's point of view. It seemed like every choice made by the director Mike Nichols
director and the director of cinematography Bob Surtees was justified. The outcome of each shot
played an important role in shaping the message of the film. The cinematography of Bob Surtees is
very complicated and thoughtful but at the same time seems poetic and spontaneous.
All of Mrs. Robinson and Benjamin's scenes pass in a musically backed montage sequence, a
segment that uses rapid editing, special effects and music to present compressed narrative
information. This shows the endless pass of time. One scene is edited so that it ... Show more

The image seems very flat. The viewer cannot focus on anything but the characters' faces. The depth
of field and depth of focus are very small. One of the reasons why this scene was shot like that was
because of the rain. Mike Nichols wanted this scene to take place on a very rainy day. Of course no
one would ever think about waiting for real rain in Beverly Hills during the summer so they had to
create it by themselves. The crew set up a rainmaker over the car in which the actors were riding.
They shot from alongside and from in front using a 500 millimeter telephoto lens which threw the
background so far out of focus that it was impossible to tell whether it was pouring in the distance or
not. This was a great example of a practical use of lenses. The Graduate, however, was rich in many
experimental uses of the camera that were mainly chosen to more directly describe the characters'
state of minds.
Thinking that confessing the truth to Elaine will solve everything, Benjamin makes a major
miscalculation. He rushes towards the house with Mrs. Robinson pursuing close behind. Here again,
the scene of Ben running towards the house was shot with a telephoto lens. This lens was chosen to
create an illusion that rain is present everywhere, not only over Ben's head. The use of the telephoto
lens and the movement of the camera created another very interesting effect. The moment when Ben
is running was shot from a farther distance. One can notice that the camera

Circular Polarizing Lens Filter Case Study
Filter Your Photography With a 67mm Circular Polarizing Camera Lens Filter
A polarizing filter is used in photography to darken the sky, manage image reflections, or suppress
the glare that rises from large bodies of water. Photographers use polarizing filters to capture richer
images without digital editing. Polarizing lens filters change the light balance of a photograph.
How do you choose the right polarizing lens filter?
You'll have to choose your filter based on your camera's design.
Autofocus: Autofocus cameras require a circular polarizer lens. Other lens shapes will interfere with
the camera's focus capabilities. If you have a manually focusing camera, any lens shape will work.
Lens diameter: Polarizing filters are made to fit specific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sky: By reducing glare and brightness, a polarizing filter can change the color of the sky from light
to dark blue.
Color: A polarizing filter can reduce the reflection of all objects in a photograph, not just the sun.
Reflection reduction results in deeper and more vivid colors.
Shiny objects and glass: A filter can cut down on the distracting reflections and glare that occur
when photographing glass or shiny objects.
What protection does a circular polarizer filter offer your camera?
Any filter will protect your camera from scratches and damage. A polarizing filter puts a layer
between your camera lens and the objects that might harm it.
How do you use a polarizing camera filter?
Follow these steps when using a filter:
Setting up: Clip the filter to your camera lens and adjust the filter's front element until you reach
your desired color balance.
Taking photos: Pay attention to the colors as you adjust the filter. Once you have the balance you
like, simply shoot your photos like you would without the filter.
Pay attention to the sun: The filter will work best if you keep the sun at a 90–degree angle, not in
front of or behind

Prime Lens Essay
If portrait photography is your niche, then a prime portrait lens is essential! The ideal focal length
for portraiture is 85mm. This will allow you to take half–length portraits from a comfortable
distance. Although portraits can be successfully taken with a kit lens, prime lenses offer superior
image quality compared to zoom lenses.
Since a prime lens is generally faster, this will reduce distortion and vignetting. Distortion is a
deformation of the photo, like when there is a noticeable curving or when features of a person or
object are disproportionate. A Vignette Effect, sometimes known as light fall–off, is when the outer
edges of a photo are darker in comparison to its center. Sometimes this effect is intentional, to create
a dramatic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mainly, a filter can save your lens from becoming damaged. It would be far more cost effective if a
filter were to become scratched than your lens! In addition, filters can be indispensable for
enhancing color, reducing reflection, and capturing images in less than perfect lighting conditions.
Filters come in two different types: round or square. Round filters screw directly onto the DSLR
camera's lens thread. Round filters are the most common type as they can fit onto any lens that it
matches in size. Round filters are more convenient because there is little set up. You just screw it
onto the lens, and you are ready to go! A square filter also attaches to the camera lens, but in a
different manner. A card slot holder is first threaded onto the lens front. Then the square filter is
fitted into a slot on the filter holder. Multiple slots allow for stacking filters and creating unique
effects. The set–up, however, takes effort and a tripod is often necessary to successfully pull off
shots.
Here are some of the most popular filters, and why you should consider investing in

Comparison Between Optical Telescope Systems And Modern...
Background knowledge:
The topic of this investigation is to compare and contrast three different optical telescope systems
that are used in modern day times. The three main telescope systems that will be focused on in this
report will be reflecting, refracting and cassegrain which is a combination of both and how different
types of error such as aberration effect the telescopes ability to capture an image and the quality of
the image it produces.
Reflecting telescopes use mirrors to reflect incoming light rays onto a secondary mirror which
magnifies it through an eye piece to form an image. (BBC, 2015)
When light rays come in contact with the mirror they are called the incident ray and then when the
ray reflects back off the mirror it is then called the reflected ray. As the light rays hit and leave the
mirror at particular angles these are titled angle of incidence and angle of reflection which can be
seen in the figure 2 below.
By the first law of reflection it is assumed that the angle of reflection is equal to the angle of
incidence. This would only be true for totally reflective flat surfaces.
When light rays come into contact with convex and concave mirrors parallel to the normal they are
reflected onto a 'focal point'. To find the focal point of a mirror, the mirror formula can be used.
1/f=1/u+1/v
Where 'f' is the focal length, 'u' is the objects actual distance away from the mirror and 'v' is the
distance the image is formed from the mirror.

Positioning the camera as close to the needle axis as possible – axial resolution of camera systems is
usually lower. Also, placement of cameras should consider the sewing direction and avoid occlusion
by the needle.
Various setup options will be explored to examine which systems provide the most reliable results.
These setup options involve a ToF camera, stereo webcams and stereo microscopes. Multi–camera
setups will be considered as the needle and tools need to be tracked in both coarse and fine
movements.
Calibration methods to calibrate depth and RGB cameras together will be explored.
Object tracking techniques would be explored and its accuracy verified using ground truth such as

The absorption coefficient decides how far into a material, the light of a particular wavelength can
penetrate before it is absorbed.
The photons that have an energy above the band gap, depends on the wavelength and its absorption
coefficient is not constant. The likelihood of retaining a photon relies on upon the probability of
having a photon and an electron connect so as to move starting with one energy band then onto the
next. The absorption is relatively low for photons with energy very close to that of the band gap, as

Because dn/dω and dε'/dω have the same sign, the index of refraction decreases with frequency in a
spectral region of anomalous dispersion. Anomalous dispersion can be observed experimentally if
the substance is not too opaque at the resonance frequency. E.g. certain dyes have absorption bands
in the visible region of the spectrum and exhibit anomalous dispersion in the region of these bands.
Prisms doped with these dyes produce a spectrum that is reversed, i.e. the longer wavelengths are
refracted more than the shorter wavelengths. Aperture
A device that controls the amount of light admitted through an opening. In photography and digital
photography, aperture is the unit of measurement that defines the size of the opening in the lens that
can be adjusted to control the amount of light reaching the film or digital sensor. The size of the
aperture is measured in F–stop. Aspherical
Aspherical lenses are lenses with complex curved surfaces, such as where the radius of curvature
changes according to distance from the optical axis. It offers excellent aberration correction
performance, which provides superior resolution, even with compact optics composed of a small
number of elements.

Film Analysis Of Rear Window Directed By Alfred Hitchcock
Reality is ultimately dependent upon what is seen and how it gets seen. Rear Window, directed by
the renowned Alfred Hitchcock, centers around a temporarily wheelchair–bound photographer and
his beautiful, affluent girlfriend, who believe that one of his neighbors has murdered their wife. With
the help of his caretaker and a friend of his, who is a detective, they attempt to prove that the murder
did indeed take place. L.B "Jeff" Jefferies, played by James Stewart, is the hindered photographer,
who is confined to his apartment. To kill time, Jeff develops the "diseased" habit of watching his
neighbors through his professional grade camera and lens. His girlfriend, Lisa Carol Fremont,
played by Grace Kelly, is heavily involved in the fashion industry and is well known for her
elegance. However, she deeply in love with Jeff and desperately wants to be a part of his life, even if
that means she has to embark on the unpleasant, and often life–threatening, adventures that he goes
on for his work. The neighbor, Lars Thorwald, played by Raymond Burr, is a strained salesman,
whose wife is a bed–ridden invalid. He tries to tend to her needs, but it never seems to be
satisfactory to her. One night he decides that he is done nursing her, so he murders her. The audience
is brought into a cross–courtyard game of cat and mouse, through the unique perspective of Jeff and
his camera lens, and also must deal with the unnerving abyss of the unseen. Hitchcock uses an

2 does my idea inform? If the answer to both these questions is 'yes' you are essentially on the right
track. If the answer is no to either or both these questions, then it may be worth reevaluating your
idea. The programme must be well thought through and constructed. Keep it short and to the point,
make sure your idea is lively and imaginative, and that the direction is logical and properly argued.
By following these basic rules you are far more likely to communicate your ideas to an audience.
Target your programme at a particular audience and establish early on the programmer's objective.
Decide in advance how you are going to develop your idea. Try to produce a written outline,
thinking visually all the time. Research your subject thoroughly becoming an expert on it. Your
research should include people and locations, as well as the general concepts surrounding your idea.
A poorly researched idea is as likely to ruin your programme as badly directed one. Write your script
and visualize it by producing a storyboard. Link the script to the pictures as you move from

PHYSICS 30123: Observational Astronomy – Fall 2015
LABORATORY 1: Jordan Adams
Collaborator: Corey Nix
PURPOSE: The aim of the investigation was to further our understanding of the physical laws that
govern our ability to receive and interpret information in the form of visible light. We have all had a
physics class that at least brushed the introduction of optics, but we can still further our
comprehension by experimenting with optics that have different characteristics. Does one axis truly
get inverted when viewing an object through a lens? How significant of an effect does human error
have in calculating reflection (if any)? How much does magnification blur an image viewed through
an optic? How much does the angle of light deflect from a change of medium?
PROCEDURE: First, the law of reflection was examined. The law was verified by observing the
reflected image of a place marker, marking where the reflection appeared to line up with another
place marker, and then subsequently drawing a line along the line of sight for the pins. The angle
was then measured and verified through equivalency, as if the law of reflection is true then the
interior and exterior angles of the setup, with a line normal to the mirror's plane drawn in the center.
Next, refraction was studied. This was accomplished by noting the placement of a prism, and then
putting down place markers. Then, while one looked through the prism, additional place markers we
put down that appeared to line up

Out in the field, you need to make sure that you have high–quality gear on you to ensure that your
hunt goes smoothly. Whether it's making sure that you stay warm with thick, durable clothing, or
having an adequate blade for when it's time to dress your kill, the best gear can mean the difference
between a successful hunt or an unproductive day in the woods.
Of all the gear you can have, however, I would argue that one of the most important pieces is your
rifle scope. As a hunter, vision is probably your best asset, considering that you have to see your
target to ensure a proper kill. Today I'll be showing you some of the best hunting scopes on the

Unfortunately, CVLIFE doesn't seem to name its scopes differently, so I'll just refer to this one as
the 50mm model. When talking about lens sizes, I like a larger scope since it lets in more light and
gives me better vision. Thus, this 50mm model is a marked improvement over the previous 40mm
version. However, you don't get a laser sight on this scope, which may or may not be a bad thing,
depending on how much of a badass you want to be.
Other notable features of this unit include a variable zoom range of 6–24X, a multi–coated lens for
better clarity overall, and the fact that it comes with rings to mount on a 20mm Weaver Dovetail

As the sequence begins to escalate, shifting from Jeff's dimly lit apartment to Thorwald's brightly lit
and later pitch dark apartment, it as if each shot after shot, films the audience's reaction to what is
going on in the scene. Jeff being the audience his emotions are then felt by the true audience who
would feel anxious as well.
The sequence shows a mixture of close–up shots, long shots and angled shots. It begins with a
close–up of Jeff showing his reaction. It cuts to a long shot of Thorwald's apartment. The camera is
at a level and height as if looking out from Jeff's apartment. The camera has little movement at the
beginning of the scene.
In the, Extreme long shots it is unrestricted to Thorwald since he does not know who is ever at the
door. When the police arrives and rings the doorbell, only Jeff and Stella knows that they are there.
When it becomes known to Thorwald after opening the door, his face is filled with guilt as Jeff looks
at him with his telephoto lens. Thorwald is nervous and looks back at Lisa, who manages to
compose herself. However, the audience only sees what Jeff sees.
The last shot in the sequence at the point 102:02(shot 24), Joe is looking through the telephoto lens
while Stella looks through a pair of binoculars. An iris forms again showing Joe's subjective view.
Lisa and Thorwald are talking to the police officers.

Taking a Look at Photographic Film
Photographic film A film can be defined as a material which is chemically reactive and when
exposed to a light source records a fixed or still image. In other words it helps in capturing the
image of a the photographed object, formed from the light reflecting back from its surface.
Technically it is a photographic material consisting of a celluloid base that is covered with a
photographic emulsion that is later used to make the negatives or the transparencies that maybe
contained inside a roll, or maybe a cassette or a cartridge. A film, when developed will produce
transparent negatives. A negative film is a photographic image that is formed on a narrow
transparent strip of sheet whose surface is generally made up of plastic or glass. It is a type of
photographic image that shows the bright areas of the subject photographed as dark and the dark
areas of the subject as light. A negative film can be found in all formats, and can be black and white
or colour. A negative can produce a positive image when light is made to pass through it. A positive
image is actually a normal image while a negative image is a total inversion were the light areas of
the picture becomes dark and the dark as light. Hence a positive is the final image. A positive can
also be made directly from a film, like transparencies ( were a film is processed to give a positive
image directly rather than to give a negative ) what is it made up of film is actually a light sensitive

The Mind 's Eye By Oliver Sacks
The status quo holds that the connection between experience and social connections is
unidirectional. Simply put, experience affects social connections, period. However, social
connections can affect one's experiences through psychological and biological changes. Barbara
Fredrickson in her paper Love.2.0: How Our Supreme Emotion Affects Everything We Feel, Think,
Do and Become explains how the biology of love and creating bonds can affect a person physically,
psychologically and biologically. In The Mind's Eye by Oliver Sacks, Sacks elaborates on the stories
of a multitude of people who went blind at some point in their lives. Alone Together: Why We

Once this manifestation takes hold, the two people begin to subconsciously imitate and interpret
information like the other person. This subconsciously affects experiences by allowing someone to
"walk a mile in someone else's shoes" because the people's "respective brain waves mirror one
another...moment by moment–changes the other's mind," (110). These psychological changes, as
stated before, leads to a change in perspective since your mirror waves are the same as those of the
person whom you have bonded with. Moreover, behaviors that have arisen from social connections
can greatly influence and experience. Behavior can define an experience because it determines how
others will interpret this experience. A common example of this is after a person loses someone
whom they care about. Often times, people will say that death has changed the person. This is
primarily because people tend to act rash and irrational while maintaining a negative mentality
shortly after a loved one's passing. This grieving period has been seen to change people's personality
as well as their behavior. We can draw a parallel with children and Furbies. In the late 90's, Furbies
were popular toys that children would talk to and get a response (Turkle 467). The fact that these
toys were always on and had a personality made them a holiday season craze.

The Birdcage Essay
In analyzing the style of Emmanuel Lubezki I found that his techniques adapts to the style/needs of
the director and the movie he works on. In the movie The Birdcage, he uses a long lens glamour
style whereas, in Children of Men he takes on his famous natural lighting style with a handheld
camera. What's unique about these two styles is that he manages to show that the subjects/actors are
the main focus and they standout and look amazing whether natural or artificial, he produces
natural–looking shots. Lubezki also uses techniques in camera to create the best shoot without
green–screens although, when used, the lighting holdes the image together and creates believable
moments.
Lubezki has two predominant styles of lighting the actors faces. One is called short lite, which is
when the shadow side of the subject's faces the camera (three fourths lighting style) and the other
style of lighting cuts right down the middle of the actors faces. We see this in A Series of
Unfortunate Events, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

LG's upcoming G5 smartphone is the follow up to their earlier G4 model. The G5 was recently
announced at MWC 2016. The G5 features a 5.3–inch display. As well as dual rear cameras, in

storage. As well as running the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow Operating System. Today we'll be
giving you an early preview of LG's upcoming G5 smartphone.
The new phone moves away from the G4's design scheme with its back–mounted volume buttons.
Instead opting for more traditional side–mounted buttons. The G5 also allows for a number of
different modular attachments which can be installed by completely removing the phone's lower
portion. This means that the G5 is easily upgradable, and can have a much longer lifespan than most
other commercially available smartphones.

Wes Anderson 's The Grand Budapest Hotel
Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014), is a narrative that takes the form of many stories
within another. Considered a film masterpiece not only for its use of thoughtful comedy but also for
the way in which the film was enhanced through the use of camera angles. "Love and death,
romance and horror, comedy and tragedy duel to an elegant draw in Wes Anderson's rich torte of a
movie", as stated by Richard Corliss from Time Magazine. The constant use of straight angles gives
the film an unmistakably elegant quality. Cinematographically, this film was created with great
precision, making it feel more like a theater performance rather than a film. The use of thoughtful
and quirky humor truly brings this picture to life, making The Grand Budapest Hotel truly grand.
The use of thoughtful comedy throughout serves several purposes. The characters are an example of
this, through their representations they are able to create specific correlations that are key to the film
overall. It is through their mannerisms and quirky, thoughtful humor that the characters are brought
to life. This film allocates the use of camera angles thus allowing it an elegant feature, while humor
is used to create a "...real, funny, sad movie whose performances are as alert and finely composed as
the décor". Richard Corliss, from Time Magazine, states that the film is "a dizzyingly complex

The Invention Of Digital Photography
Introduction
In the early 20th century, when the monochrome camera came to people's sight, round or oval
frames were as common as square frames. They offered a sense of both formality and intimacy.
Though the technology of digital photography is increasingly reaching more new heights, nothing
can beat holding a printed photo of a precious memory in hands. The incredible project has once
again pushed out a innovation in instant photography. The instant project is proud of its Impossible
Instant Lab to the photographic and digital world. One year ago, it debuted the Instant Lab and
received a massively successful response from the community. Now all set to launch, this

Photographic film is the indispensable part of Impossible Instant Lab when taking photos. The
quality of colorful photos depends on the quality of photographic films in some degree. The
company can launch three different levels of photographic films onto the market. Firstly, the
photographic film is needed to meet the demands of common consumers who only can afford low
level products. This type of photographic film may cost 20 penny each and be sold at the price of 50
penny. Next, regular level of photographic needed to be produced in order to offer the convenience
for the majority of consumers. This type of photographic is produced at the cost of 25 penny and the
price of 60 penny. Furthermore, some advanced photographic film is also in the consideration since
one part of consumers focus on the quality and the style of photos. As a result, the company can
produce some photographic films with better material and decoration. Consequently, the cost of it is
higher and the price is more expensive at 50 penny and 1 pound respectively.
Financial plan for cost and price of camera
The instant camera attracts young generation especially girls. According to the consumers'
consumption level, the Impossible Instant Lab can be divided in to three main aspects. Firstly,
consumers who have ability to afford the average price of the instant camera are expected to be
taken into consideration. So the raw material is supposed to be considered to be

Alfred Hitchcock 's Rear Window
Like many of his films, Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window (1954) is an intense study in the
sometimes–jarring idiosyncrasies of its main character, L.B. Jeffries (James Stewart). Jeffries is an
observer by nature, a professional photographer confined to his apartment by an injury, with only
insurance company nurse Stella (Thelma Ritter) and his girlfriend, Lisa Fremont (Grace Kelly) for
company. This limitation impels him to begin observing his neighbors, and he witnesses events that
lead him to believe Lars Thorwald (Raymond Burr) has murdered his wide. However, Jeffries'
watchful habit raises serious questions about the relationships between neighbors and ethics of
observation in densely–populated urban settings. Rear Window uses set design and disparate camera
techniques to codify the acceptable and unacceptable ways in which a city dweller might observe
their neighbors, based largely on level on intent. Hitchcock's notoriously elaborate Rear Window set
(under the art direction of J. Macmillan Johnson and Hal Pereira) is so significant because it
contains the entirety of the movie. The rest of the city is a mere suggestion, hinted at by cars and
pedestrians passing by a narrow strip of alleyway. Therefore, the real analysis of city life that Rear
Window explores is that of the relationship between neighbors. In his essay The Metropolis and
Mental Life, Georg Simmel comments that the city dweller must avoid overstimulation by
practicing "reserve" among others and that,

Reflection Paper On Final Thinking
Coming into this course, I really did not know what to expect. It was second class on my first day of
classes at college. I was not sure what exactly we would do and learn in class. The first thing we
talked about in this course was what kind of class do we want it to be. We gave a lot of topics to the
professor, but the one that stuck to me was the word creative. Professor Cathey told us to use our
creativity for every assignment and every discussion we will ever have in this class. The word
creative stuck to me ever since this day as I am writing to you after all the assignments and
discussions we had for this course. In my opinion, I feel like I accomplished this goal and learn even
more about myself. My final poster for this course went very well in my opinion. I tried very hard to
come up with a question that fits me and can relate to others. Some things that worked for me was
actually coming up with a question. My question, "Why are new members joining fraternities
knowing hazing still occurs," was pretty tough to come up with because I had a lot of trouble
pinpointing on one question for the subject of hazing. I believe the thing that worked for me was
coming up with the lenses for this questions. There is a lot of information for hazing from many
different viewpoints, so it was simple to find out details for each lense. However, during this project
I find out some particular things that did not work out quite well. Trying to talk about the

Distance Across Your Viewing Field
31. Field of view: Actual distance across your viewing field (left to right) when looking through an
optical instrument. It can be measured in two different ways: linear feet at 1,000 yards (also known
as Real Field of View) and angular degrees (or Apparent Field of View).
Real field of view is the angle of the visible field, seen without moving the lens, measured from the
central point of the objective lens. The larger the value is, the wider the view–field available.
Apparent field of view is the angle of the magnified field when you look through lens. The larger the
apparent field of view is, the wider the field of view you can see even at high magnifications. With
the conventional method used previously, the apparent field of view ... Show more content on

The main factor that affects finesse is the reflectivity of the resonator mirrors since it directly affects
the number of beams oscillating within the cavity; In addition to mirror reflectivity, factors that limit
the finesse of a Fabry–Perot resonator include the mirror surface quality, along with vibrational and
thermal stability of the resonator. 33. F–number: unit used to measure the image brightness
projected on the image sensor from the lens. The F–number of a lens is ratio of its focal length
divided by the diameter of the aperture. High F–numbers show that less light travels through the
lens. An f–number of X may also be displayed as 1: X (instead of f/X). The maximum diameter of
the lens opening is referred to as its maximum aperture or minimum f–number. The minimum f–
number is the smallest f–number that can be selected with the lens. Fig30: F–number.
34. F–stop: opening that lets light into your camera. And so the numbers on the f–stop relate to the
size of the opening that is letting light into your camera. F–stops are measured by a scale, and this is
known as the f–stop scale. The numbers that correspond to different f–stops seem backwards,
because an aperture of F8 is actually smaller than an aperture of F4. So, the larger the number the
smaller the opening. And the smaller the number the larger the opening. Also, most f–stop numbers
are not a whole number. They are an f5, or an f1.9, or an f6, or an f1.2. Fig31: F–stop

Interpreter Of Maladies By Jhumpa Lahiri
In "Interpreter of Maladies", Jhumpa Lahiri uses both art and language as symbols of the difficulty
of belonging when stuck between two or more cultures. Born in London from Indian parents, then
raised in the United States, Lahiri puts in this story her own feeling or removal into the characters:
The Das, visiting a country that has become more foreign than homely; and Mr. Kapasi, who
struggles to claim his identity through language and translation. Bilbro argues that a lot of Lahiri
scholarhip overlooks the "importance of dealing with one's tradition in working towards a
postnational identity" (382). Indeed, this process of initiation is particularly present in "Interpreter of
Maladies", where the Das' act of taking a tour shows a certain will to engage with this tradition and
heritage. If an active engagement with tradition allows us to "participate both in the continued
formation of our identity and in the formation of the tradition that is being handed down", the power
of this act is however tarnished by the family's lack of active and interested engagement with the
local art and culture. Their original interest is a step towards integration, but it is not enough to make
them an integral part of Indian tradition and its transmission.
The Das are indeed so removed from Indian culture that they can only see it through an occidental
lens, different to each of them. As a professor, Mr. Das engages with the world around him through
books. Throughout the story, he is

The Brown Burro and Nature Essay
I breathed a sigh of relief finding everything in our camp as we had left it. Time seemed to have
stood still in this part of the world; I felt as though we had been gone for ages when actually it was
only three and a half days. I showered Frog with affection, and gave him the last of our cookies and
chips. That night, Satan and Puss slept with me in my trailer. Frog kept me awake with his constant
stomping and braying. Snow had fallen during our absence. Only patches of thin crust remained at
Harry's camp. The hills beyond were covered with a blanket of mushroom–like beauty glistening in
the desert sun, which notwithstanding its angle in the sky, would wreak havoc with the snow before
the day was done. I drove up the canyon in my Jeep ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two burros stood glaring at one another, and then they pawed the earth, and charged. I heard the
sound of the impact and they arced in the air like colliding locomotives, their loud, echoing blasts
resounding across the canyons, and they bit at one another in a most vicious manner, which resulted
in bloody lacerations about their bodies,––then abruptly they stopped their combat and began
grazing; and all was peaceful. The Jennies, close by, some accompanied by nursing yearlings, and
older burros, regarded the two battling males with what appeared to me as casual regard; then the
black one trotted over to the herd, and mounted one of the Jennies; and the entire herd let out a
combined burro chant and charged as one, down the slope in my direction, the coupled pair leading
the way! There I stood in awe, camera with telescope lens dangling at my side. I looked around for a
route of escape, or some kind of protection, and thought of running to my Jeep, but it was too far
away, and the slope was barren of tree or boulder; I was trapped, doomed to be trampled to death by
a raging herd of wild burros. Then suddenly, as if on command, the charging herd split and stormed
by me in a thundering roar of dust and dirt, and disappeared down a draw; and all was silent as
though they had not been there, and what I had experienced but a dream. I sat down on the ground,
buried my head in my arms. An overwhelming sensation of fear gripped me and I

What Makes A Moment Special?
What makes a moment special is not the moment itself but how one interprets the moment. A single
moment can have a significant impact on one's life.
Prom is regarded as a festivity amongst teenagers across America. It appeals to them because it's a
fun night out with friends. However, I was one of the selective individuals whom prom did not
appeal to. As prom was nearing in junior year most of my friends had boyfriends and other people to
go with. Knowing that I'd be alone throughout prom night depressed the entire idea of it, but I also
signed up to take pictures of the event for yearbook. Taking pictures was always fun because it
allowed me to connect with people. It was the only reason for me to go. However, I decided to talk
to my best friend about going to prom to see what she's was going to do. Somehow in the midst of
our conversation it became unofficially established that I was to take her to prom. That was the
another reason to go. Then there were two reasons to attend prom: to take my best friend dancing
and to take pictures. As prom night came closer my friend bought her dress and I received the
camera. My mother bought me a matching swing era dress to go with the prom theme. My friend
and I arrived half an hour after prom started. The halls were light illuminated by green lights. The
theme of the night was The Great Gatsby, so 30s style decoration were in the halls and cafeteria.

The Themes Of Beauty And Beauty In The Art Of Victorian...
With a smile on her face, she is looking right into the camera lens. Wearing makeup for the
occasion, her head is leaning to the right, she came to the studio to have a photograph taken of her.
Did she intend to send it as a memento to a loved one abroad? Or did she simply like the idea of
being photographed in a tradition embroidered dress? We can never be certain, but we know that this
modern twentieth century Palestinian woman does not dress the way she is pictured here. The stylish
shoes, the hair style, and the way the scarf is held behind her head are indications of a careful choice
that betrays any authenticity behind her look.
In fact, the picture here is of a woman posing in a slightly seductive manner, standing next to
accessories available in the studio, including the vase and the flowers in a way that resembles an old
painting rather than a modern photograph. Nothing in her pose suggests to us, spectators, what she
does for a living, nor does it tell us much about her. For us, she is a woman disguised in an image of
an earlier generation, or perhaps a woman celebrating her peasant heritage without fully embracing
it.
However, perhaps there is more to this image than meets the eye. The style, although subdued,
brings to mind the many paintings of women in Victorian art, in which themes of beauty and love
were apparent. Victorian women often appeared in the paintings of great artists of the time posing in
rather seductive ways, standing next to flowers,

investigations & provides the court room & investigators with photos of victims, places and items in
detail involved in the crime.
The basics of photography is understanding how a camera works, a standard camera has very basic
components these are –
A viewfinder
A focusing mechanism
A shutter
An aperture
A lens
The light–proof camera body
Finally a variety of buttons/devices to control the settings
So the basics of how a camera works are as follows as the light enters the camera this will be
through the lens aperture. It is then reflected & the image is recorded on to a light–sensitive film that
is loaded within the camera. When looking at the individual components of the camera firstly is the
lens this is a curved piece of glass of which the light passes through to allow the light to enter the
camera then this is redirected to finally this comes together in order to form an image. The aperture
is located between the rear and front lens; the aperture refers to the size of the lens' opening this
basically controls the amount of light that enters the camera, sometimes the aperture can be known
as the f–stop or f–number. The largest aperture is – F–2 & the smallest is F–22.
The shutter is the object that is covering the lens, and this is the feature that controls the

Movie Review : Rear Window
I. INTRODUCTION
While several of his works dwell considerably on voyeurism, Hitchcock's 1954 film Rear Window
addresses it most directly. Not only does the film comment explicitly on 'rear window ethics', it also
forces audiences to identify with the characters who violate them. No character in Rear Window is
morally clean, and through several cinematic techniques, Hitchcock compels viewers to sympathize
with nearly all of them. More than anything, Rear Window is a film about the audience's complicity
with ethically imperfect characters and their ethically imperfect behavior. This is particularly evident
in two climactic scenes. The first scene creates a close identification with L.B. Jefferies, the main
character and principal voyeur ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This serves to frame the murder mystery plot and distinguish it from the numerous personal
developments and narratives experienced by the other neighbors.
Looking beyond its narrative function, the use of binoculars is a morally problematic development
in Jefferies's voyeuristic project. This is acknowledged by the film itself. As Stam and Pearson note,
Stella criticizes Jefferies as a 'Peeping Tom' and "'window shopper', and [...] refers to Jefferies's
telephoto lens as a 'portable keyhole'". Inherently, the lenses represent a more potent and intentional
violation of privacy than merely gazing out of the window. But despite the film's self–conscious
critique of voyeurism, Jefferies continues to utilize his lenses as a tool for his spying, and the
audience continues to share his point of view. The technique forces upon the audience complicity in
Jefferies' voyeurism, and it can often evoke discomfort, especially when the lens's gaze is focused
on a private or intimate moment. It is also worth noting that Hitchcock relies on the framing
technique to evoke discomfort in his other films. For example, in his 1960 film Psycho, Hitchcock
employs the round framing technique to force the audience to identify with the murderer Norman
Bates. As Norman looks through a hidden peephole at his victim as she undresses, the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of DSLR

  • 1. Advantages And Disadvantages Of DSLR Introduction: DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) cameras have redefined motion picture photography. Today they offer more than what we ever thought off. Technological revolutions have swept the world like never before and today, a camera stands for more than just a tool to capture family functions. Who knew that major feature films and television shows would eventually start shooting with cameras that primarily marketed for consumers and prosumers? The "movie mode" of a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera is a revolutionary movie making technology as important like the invention of emulsion and colour film in photography, 16mm and 35mm films for motion picture photography. Nikon D90 is the first DSLR to introduce video recording facility. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is nothing like an all–purpose lens. Each lens is suitable for a particular purpose. Each lens has some pro and cons. Different lenses render how we perceive the subject and setting descriptively, emotionally and aesthetically. Different lenses give the freedom of choosing the angle of view according to the subject and are measured by the focal length. Focal length of a DSLR camera is the distance between the optical centre of a lens to the imaging sensor when the lens is focused at infinity. The two main choices of a film maker while choosing lens is either a prime lens (lens with a fixed focal length) or a zoom lens (lens with a variable focal length). For narrative film making prime lenses are best. Prime lenses are faster as compared to zoom lenses. Fast refers to the maximum opening (aperture) of the lens. Fast lenses (such as f/1.4 or f/1.8) allow shooting in low lighting conditions. Fast lenses allow capturing footage with a dramatically shallow depth of field. It gives more visual versatility. Prime lenses have fewer lens elements and give good sharp images in comparison to zoom lenses. For documentaries zoom lenses are better for their flexibility in creating ... • 3. AAcademy Ratio Of 1.37 Prenom Carmen uses a academy ratio of 1.37:1. Starting with the first shot, it begins with a man, named Uncle Jean, in the hospital staring out of the window. Godard's use of a middle lense, a straight–on camera angle along with high key lighting all made the visuals seem somewhat muted. The colors are all "soft" or "subdued" with no other prominent lighting effects in this first shot. Yet while the visuals does not necessarily capture my attention, Godard's use of sound and framing certainly does. Godard uses framing and sound in conjunction to switch between offscreen and onscreen diegetic sounds. Starting with the beginning of the first shot, the incredibly loud knock on the door (offscreen diegetic) and Uncle Jean yelling, "Where am I?" (onscreen diegetic) as he moves from the right of the frame to the center. The image size of the first scene is a medium long shot as I noticed that only the knees and up are shown. I then hear two offscreen diegetic sounds of a woman laughing with her high heels walking towards the frame. As the woman finally walks into the frame and identifies herself as "Carmen" she bends down and kisses the man. Carmen then kisses (onscreen diegetic) Uncle Jean, the sound of the kiss is also noticeably loud. Carmen begins to walk out of frame and when she is out of frame, the non diegetic score kicks in and then fades away for a brief moment to let Carmen and Uncle Jean talk. All of this happens as Uncle Jean stays in the middle of the frame. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Analysis of the Graduate Essay The Graduate is a great example of a film where lens and camera choices were used effectively to convey the director's point of view. It seemed like every choice made by the director Mike Nichols director and the director of cinematography Bob Surtees was justified. The outcome of each shot played an important role in shaping the message of the film. The cinematography of Bob Surtees is very complicated and thoughtful but at the same time seems poetic and spontaneous. All of Mrs. Robinson and Benjamin's scenes pass in a musically backed montage sequence, a segment that uses rapid editing, special effects and music to present compressed narrative information. This shows the endless pass of time. One scene is edited so that it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The image seems very flat. The viewer cannot focus on anything but the characters' faces. The depth of field and depth of focus are very small. One of the reasons why this scene was shot like that was because of the rain. Mike Nichols wanted this scene to take place on a very rainy day. Of course no one would ever think about waiting for real rain in Beverly Hills during the summer so they had to create it by themselves. The crew set up a rainmaker over the car in which the actors were riding. They shot from alongside and from in front using a 500 millimeter telephoto lens which threw the background so far out of focus that it was impossible to tell whether it was pouring in the distance or not. This was a great example of a practical use of lenses. The Graduate, however, was rich in many experimental uses of the camera that were mainly chosen to more directly describe the characters' state of minds. Thinking that confessing the truth to Elaine will solve everything, Benjamin makes a major miscalculation. He rushes towards the house with Mrs. Robinson pursuing close behind. Here again, the scene of Ben running towards the house was shot with a telephoto lens. This lens was chosen to create an illusion that rain is present everywhere, not only over Ben's head. The use of the telephoto lens and the movement of the camera created another very interesting effect. The moment when Ben is running was shot from a farther distance. Circular Polarizing Lens Filter Case Study Filter Your Photography With a 67mm Circular Polarizing Camera Lens Filter A polarizing filter is used in photography to darken the sky, manage image reflections, or suppress the glare that rises from large bodies of water. Photographers use polarizing filters to capture richer images without digital editing. Polarizing lens filters change the light balance of a photograph. How do you choose the right polarizing lens filter? You'll have to choose your filter based on your camera's design. Autofocus: Autofocus cameras require a circular polarizer lens. Other lens shapes will interfere with the camera's focus capabilities. If you have a manually focusing camera, any lens shape will work. Lens diameter: Polarizing filters are made to fit specific ... • 16. Prime Lens Essay If portrait photography is your niche, then a prime portrait lens is essential! The ideal focal length for portraiture is 85mm. This will allow you to take half–length portraits from a comfortable distance. Although portraits can be successfully taken with a kit lens, prime lenses offer superior image quality compared to zoom lenses. Since a prime lens is generally faster, this will reduce distortion and vignetting. Distortion is a deformation of the photo, like when there is a noticeable curving or when features of a person or object are disproportionate. A Vignette Effect, sometimes known as light fall–off, is when the outer edges of a photo are darker in comparison to its center. Sometimes this effect is intentional, to create a dramatic ... In addition, filters can be indispensable for enhancing color, reducing reflection, and capturing images in less than perfect lighting conditions. Filters come in two different types: round or square. Round filters screw directly onto the DSLR camera's lens thread. Round filters are the most common type as they can fit onto any lens that it matches in size. Round filters are more convenient because there is little set up. You just screw it onto the lens, and you are ready to go! A square filter also attaches to the camera lens, but in a different manner. A card slot holder is first threaded onto the lens front. Then the square filter is fitted into a slot on the filter holder. Multiple slots allow for stacking filters and creating unique effects. The set–up, however, takes effort and a tripod is often necessary to successfully pull off shots. Here are some of the most popular filters, and why you should consider investing in ... • 18. Comparison Between Optical Telescope Systems And Modern... Background knowledge: The topic of this investigation is to compare and contrast three different optical telescope systems that are used in modern day times. The three main telescope systems that will be focused on in this report will be reflecting, refracting and cassegrain which is a combination of both and how different types of error such as aberration effect the telescopes ability to capture an image and the quality of the image it produces. Reflecting telescopes use mirrors to reflect incoming light rays onto a secondary mirror which magnifies it through an eye piece to form an image. (BBC, 2015) When light rays come in contact with the mirror they are called the incident ray and then when the ray reflects back off the mirror it is then called the reflected ray. As the light rays hit and leave the mirror at particular angles these are titled angle of incidence and angle of reflection which can be seen in the figure 2 below. By the first law of reflection it is assumed that the angle of reflection is equal to the angle of incidence. This would only be true for totally reflective flat surfaces. When light rays come into contact with convex and concave mirrors parallel to the normal they are reflected onto a 'focal point'. To find the focal point of a mirror, the mirror formula can be used. 1/f=1/u+1/v Where 'f' is the focal length, 'u' is the objects actual distance away from the mirror and 'v' is the distance the image is formed from the mirror. Because dn/dω and dε'/dω have the same sign, the index of refraction decreases with frequency in a spectral region of anomalous dispersion. Anomalous dispersion can be observed experimentally if the substance is not too opaque at the resonance frequency. E.g. certain dyes have absorption bands in the visible region of the spectrum and exhibit anomalous dispersion in the region of these bands. Prisms doped with these dyes produce a spectrum that is reversed, i.e. the longer wavelengths are refracted more than the shorter wavelengths. Physics : Observational Astronomy : Fall 2015 PHYSICS 30123: Observational Astronomy – Fall 2015 LABORATORY 1: Jordan Adams Collaborator: Corey Nix PURPOSE: The aim of the investigation was to further our understanding of the physical laws that govern our ability to receive and interpret information in the form of visible light. We have all had a physics class that at least brushed the introduction of optics, but we can still further our comprehension by experimenting with optics that have different characteristics. Does one axis truly get inverted when viewing an object through a lens? How significant of an effect does human error have in calculating reflection (if any)? How much does magnification blur an image viewed through an optic? How much does the angle of light deflect from a change of medium? PROCEDURE: First, the law of reflection was examined. The law was verified by observing the reflected image of a place marker, marking where the reflection appeared to line up with another place marker, and then subsequently drawing a line along the line of sight for the pins. The angle was then measured and verified through equivalency, as if the law of reflection is true then the interior and exterior angles of the setup, with a line normal to the mirror's plane drawn in the center. Next, refraction was studied. This was accomplished by noting the placement of a prism, and then putting down place markers. Then, while one looked through the prism, additional place markers we put down that appeared to line up ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In other words it helps in capturing the image of a the photographed object, formed from the light reflecting back from its surface. Technically it is a photographic material consisting of a celluloid base that is covered with a photographic emulsion that is later used to make the negatives or the transparencies that maybe contained inside a roll, or maybe a cassette or a cartridge. A film, when developed will produce transparent negatives. A negative film is a photographic image that is formed on a narrow transparent strip of sheet whose surface is generally made up of plastic or glass. It is a type of photographic image that shows the bright areas of the subject photographed as dark and the dark areas of the subject as light. A negative film can be found in all formats, and can be black and white or colour. A negative can produce a positive image when light is made to pass through it. A positive image is actually a normal image while a negative image is a total inversion were the light areas of the picture becomes dark and the dark as light. Hence a positive is the final image. These psychological changes, as stated before, leads to a change in perspective since your mirror waves are the same as those of the person whom you have bonded with. • 52. Wes Anderson 's The Grand Budapest Hotel Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014), is a narrative that takes the form of many stories within another. Considered a film masterpiece not only for its use of thoughtful comedy but also for the way in which the film was enhanced through the use of camera angles. "Love and death, romance and horror, comedy and tragedy duel to an elegant draw in Wes Anderson's rich torte of a movie", as stated by Richard Corliss from Time Magazine. The constant use of straight angles gives the film an unmistakably elegant quality. Cinematographically, this film was created with great precision, making it feel more like a theater performance rather than a film. The use of thoughtful and quirky humor truly brings this picture to life, making The Grand Budapest Hotel truly grand. The use of thoughtful comedy throughout serves several purposes. The characters are an example of this, through their representations they are able to create specific correlations that are key to the film overall. It is through their mannerisms and quirky, thoughtful humor that the characters are brought to life. This film allocates the use of camera angles thus allowing it an elegant feature, while humor is used to create a "...real, funny, sad movie whose performances are as alert and finely composed as the décor". Richard Corliss, from Time Magazine, states that the film is "a dizzyingly complex machine whose workings are a delight to behold, the movie has a wry smile for frailties, a watchful eye for ... • 60. Alfred Hitchcock 's Rear Window Like many of his films, Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window (1954) is an intense study in the sometimes–jarring idiosyncrasies of its main character, L.B. Jeffries (James Stewart). Jeffries is an observer by nature, a professional photographer confined to his apartment by an injury, with only insurance company nurse Stella (Thelma Ritter) and his girlfriend, Lisa Fremont (Grace Kelly) for company. This limitation impels him to begin observing his neighbors, and he witnesses events that lead him to believe Lars Thorwald (Raymond Burr) has murdered his wide. However, Jeffries' watchful habit raises serious questions about the relationships between neighbors and ethics of observation in densely–populated urban settings. Rear Window uses set design and disparate camera techniques to codify the acceptable and unacceptable ways in which a city dweller might observe their neighbors, based largely on level on intent. Hitchcock's notoriously elaborate Rear Window set (under the art direction of J. Macmillan Johnson and Hal Pereira) is so significant because it contains the entirety of the movie. The rest of the city is a mere suggestion, hinted at by cars and pedestrians passing by a narrow strip of alleyway. Therefore, the real analysis of city life that Rear Window explores is that of the relationship between neighbors. In his essay The Metropolis and Mental Life, Georg Simmel comments that the city dweller must avoid overstimulation by practicing "reserve" among others and that, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I was not sure what exactly we would do and learn in class. The first thing we talked about in this course was what kind of class do we want it to be. We gave a lot of topics to the professor, but the one that stuck to me was the word creative. Professor Cathey told us to use our creativity for every assignment and every discussion we will ever have in this class. The word creative stuck to me ever since this day as I am writing to you after all the assignments and discussions we had for this course. In my opinion, I feel like I accomplished this goal and learn even more about myself. My final poster for this course went very well in my opinion. I tried very hard to come up with a question that fits me and can relate to others. Some things that worked for me was actually coming up with a question. My question, "Why are new members joining fraternities knowing hazing still occurs," was pretty tough to come up with because I had a lot of trouble pinpointing on one question for the subject of hazing. I believe the thing that worked for me was coming up with the lenses for this questions. There is a lot of information for hazing from many different viewpoints, so it was simple to find out details for each lense. However, during this project I find out some particular things that did not work out quite well. Trying to talk about the background and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It can be measured in two different ways: linear feet at 1,000 yards (also known as Real Field of View) and angular degrees (or Apparent Field of View). Real field of view is the angle of the visible field, seen without moving the lens, measured from the central point of the objective lens. The larger the value is, the wider the view–field available. Apparent field of view is the angle of the magnified field when you look through lens. The larger the apparent field of view is, the wider the field of view you can see even at high magnifications. With the conventional method used previously, the apparent field of view ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main factor that affects finesse is the reflectivity of the resonator mirrors since it directly affects the number of beams oscillating within the cavity; In addition to mirror reflectivity, factors that limit the finesse of a Fabry–Perot resonator include the mirror surface quality, along with vibrational and thermal stability of the resonator. 33. F–number: unit used to measure the image brightness projected on the image sensor from the lens. The F–number of a lens is ratio of its focal length divided by the diameter of the aperture. High F–numbers show that less light travels through the lens. An f–number of X may also be displayed as 1: X (instead of f/X). The maximum diameter of the lens opening is referred to as its maximum aperture or minimum f–number. The minimum f– number is the smallest f–number that can be selected with the lens. Fig30: F–number. 34. F–stop: opening that lets light into your camera. And so the numbers on the f–stop relate to the size of the opening that is letting light into your camera. F–stops are measured by a scale, and this is known as the f–stop scale. The numbers that correspond to different f–stops seem backwards, because an aperture of F8 is actually smaller than an aperture of F4. So, the larger the number the smaller the opening. And the smaller the number the larger the opening. Also, most f–stop numbers are not a whole number. They are an f5, or an f1.9, or an f6, or an f1.2. Fig31: F–stop 35. Focal plane: ... • 66. Interpreter Of Maladies By Jhumpa Lahiri In "Interpreter of Maladies", Jhumpa Lahiri uses both art and language as symbols of the difficulty of belonging when stuck between two or more cultures. Born in London from Indian parents, then raised in the United States, Lahiri puts in this story her own feeling or removal into the characters: The Das, visiting a country that has become more foreign than homely; and Mr. Kapasi, who struggles to claim his identity through language and translation. Bilbro argues that a lot of Lahiri scholarhip overlooks the "importance of dealing with one's tradition in working towards a postnational identity" (382). Indeed, this process of initiation is particularly present in "Interpreter of Maladies", where the Das' act of taking a tour shows a certain will to engage with this tradition and heritage. If an active engagement with tradition allows us to "participate both in the continued formation of our identity and in the formation of the tradition that is being handed down", the power of this act is however tarnished by the family's lack of active and interested engagement with the local art and culture. Their original interest is a step towards integration, but it is not enough to make them an integral part of Indian tradition and its transmission. The Das are indeed so removed from Indian culture that they can only see it through an occidental lens, different to each of them. As a professor, Mr. Das engages with the world around him through books. Throughout the story, he is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Time seemed to have stood still in this part of the world; I felt as though we had been gone for ages when actually it was only three and a half days. I showered Frog with affection, and gave him the last of our cookies and chips. That night, Satan and Puss slept with me in my trailer. Frog kept me awake with his constant stomping and braying. Snow had fallen during our absence. Only patches of thin crust remained at Harry's camp. The hills beyond were covered with a blanket of mushroom–like beauty glistening in the desert sun, which notwithstanding its angle in the sky, would wreak havoc with the snow before the day was done. I heard the sound of the impact and they arced in the air like colliding locomotives, their loud, echoing blasts resounding across the canyons, and they bit at one another in a most vicious manner, which resulted in bloody lacerations about their bodies,––then abruptly they stopped their combat and began grazing; and all was peaceful. The Jennies, close by, some accompanied by nursing yearlings, and older burros, regarded the two battling males with what appeared to me as casual regard; then the black one trotted over to the herd, and mounted one of the Jennies; and the entire herd let out a combined burro chant and charged as one, down the slope in my direction, the coupled pair leading the way! There I stood in awe, camera with telescope lens dangling at my side. I looked around for a route of escape, or some kind of protection, and thought of running to my Jeep, but it was too far away, and the slope was barren of tree or boulder; I was trapped, doomed to be trampled to death by a raging herd of wild burros. Then suddenly, as if on command, the charging herd split and stormed by me in a thundering roar of dust and dirt, and disappeared down a draw; and all was silent as though they had not been there, and what I had experienced but a dream. • 73. What Makes A Moment Special? What makes a moment special is not the moment itself but how one interprets the moment. A single moment can have a significant impact on one's life. Prom is regarded as a festivity amongst teenagers across America. It appeals to them because it's a fun night out with friends. However, I was one of the selective individuals whom prom did not appeal to. As prom was nearing in junior year most of my friends had boyfriends and other people to go with. Knowing that I'd be alone throughout prom night depressed the entire idea of it, but I also signed up to take pictures of the event for yearbook. Taking pictures was always fun because it allowed me to connect with people. It was the only reason for me to go. However, I decided to talk to my best friend about going to prom to see what she's was going to do. Somehow in the midst of our conversation it became unofficially established that I was to take her to prom. That was the another reason to go. Then there were two reasons to attend prom: to take my best friend dancing and to take pictures. As prom night came closer my friend bought her dress and I received the camera. My mother bought me a matching swing era dress to go with the prom theme. My friend and I arrived half an hour after prom started. The halls were light illuminated by green lights. The theme of the night was The Great Gatsby, so 30s style decoration were in the halls and cafeteria. After we set our things I took it upon myself to start dancing. Again, ... • 77. The Themes Of Beauty And Beauty In The Art Of Victorian... With a smile on her face, she is looking right into the camera lens. Wearing makeup for the occasion, her head is leaning to the right, she came to the studio to have a photograph taken of her. Did she intend to send it as a memento to a loved one abroad? Or did she simply like the idea of being photographed in a tradition embroidered dress? We can never be certain, but we know that this modern twentieth century Palestinian woman does not dress the way she is pictured here. The stylish shoes, the hair style, and the way the scarf is held behind her head are indications of a careful choice that betrays any authenticity behind her look. In fact, the picture here is of a woman posing in a slightly seductive manner, standing next to accessories available in the studio, including the vase and the flowers in a way that resembles an old painting rather than a modern photograph. Nothing in her pose suggests to us, spectators, what she does for a living, nor does it tell us much about her. For us, she is a woman disguised in an image of an earlier generation, or perhaps a woman celebrating her peasant heritage without fully embracing it. However, perhaps there is more to this image than meets the eye. The style, although subdued, brings to mind the many paintings of women in Victorian art, in which themes of beauty and love were apparent. Victorian women often appeared in the paintings of great artists of the time posing in rather seductive ways, standing next to flowers, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Effect Of Photography On Forensic Science Photography in forensic science is arguably an important factor to the forensic science world especially when is used in court situations to carry out justice in court. Photography helps to aid investigations & provides the court room & investigators with photos of victims, places and items in detail involved in the crime. The basics of photography is understanding how a camera works, a standard camera has very basic components these are – A viewfinder A focusing mechanism A shutter An aperture A lens The light–proof camera body Finally a variety of buttons/devices to control the settings So the basics of how a camera works are as follows as the light enters the camera this will be through the lens aperture. It is then reflected & the image is recorded on to a light–sensitive film that is loaded within the camera. When looking at the individual components of the camera firstly is the lens this is a curved piece of glass of which the light passes through to allow the light to enter the camera then this is redirected to finally this comes together in order to form an image. The aperture is located between the rear and front lens; the aperture refers to the size of the lens' opening this basically controls the amount of light that enters the camera, sometimes the aperture can be known as the f–stop or f–number. The largest aperture is – F–2 & the smallest is F–22. The shutter is the object that is covering the lens, and this is the feature that controls the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 81. Movie Review : Rear Window I. INTRODUCTION While several of his works dwell considerably on voyeurism, Hitchcock's 1954 film Rear Window addresses it most directly. Not only does the film comment explicitly on 'rear window ethics', it also forces audiences to identify with the characters who violate them. No character in Rear Window is morally clean, and through several cinematic techniques, Hitchcock compels viewers to sympathize with nearly all of them. More than anything, Rear Window is a film about the audience's complicity with ethically imperfect characters and their ethically imperfect behavior. This is particularly evident in two climactic scenes. The first scene creates a close identification with L.B. Jefferies, the main character and principal voyeur ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This serves to frame the murder mystery plot and distinguish it from the numerous personal developments and narratives experienced by the other neighbors. Looking beyond its narrative function, the use of binoculars is a morally problematic development in Jefferies's voyeuristic project. This is acknowledged by the film itself. As Stam and Pearson note, Stella criticizes Jefferies as a 'Peeping Tom' and "'window shopper', and [...] refers to Jefferies's telephoto lens as a 'portable keyhole'". Inherently, the lenses represent a more potent and intentional violation of privacy than merely gazing out of the window. But despite the film's self–conscious critique of voyeurism, Jefferies continues to utilize his lenses as a tool for his spying, and the audience continues to share his point of view. The technique forces upon the audience complicity in Jefferies' voyeurism, and it can often evoke discomfort, especially when the lens's gaze is focused on a private or intimate moment. It is also worth noting that Hitchcock relies on the framing technique to evoke discomfort in his other films. For example, in his 1960 film Psycho, Hitchcock employs the round framing technique to force the audience to identify with the murderer Norman Bates. As Norman looks through a hidden peephole at his victim as she undresses, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
