Evaluation question 6
1. What have you learnt about
technologies from constructing this
product?
Daniel Payn
2. Cameras
The first thing we learnt about cameras
was the ability to focus back and forth
between two people or objects.
3. Cameras
The first thing we learnt about cameras

between two people or objects.
Having a low depth of field can
create tension because the character’s
face (foreground) is in focus whereas
the background is out of focus making the
viewer concentrate on the character more.
5. Cameras
Since shallow focus can be really
effective, we wanted to get the best camera.
The best camera available
was a Panasonic HD camcorder
that was able to shoot in 1080p.

To focus correctly, we placed our
actors on a sofa with the camera placed
on one side of the sofa.

We then manually focused on what we
thought was appropriate during filming.
9. Cameras-Movement
To have shot variety we needed different camera
movements.
The first movement
we did in the film was a crab
around the car.

The first movement

We used this technique because
it allows the viewers to see all of
the characters coming out of the car.

In the end the crab came out good
But I think it could have been
executed better.
15. Sound
We had the opportunity to
use both microphones because
we had to reshoot some scenes with
sound that did not come out properly.

ADVANTAGES: BOOM DISADVANTAGES: BOOM
Very good sound quality
Less background noise
Fur cover helps reduce wind noise
Hard to get out of shot
Sometimes stops working meaning
we had to regularly check if the sound was
good enough or not.
These were some pros and cons
I found while using a boom.
18. Sound
These were some pros and cons
I found while using a chevalier
Microphone or ‘clip mic’ for short.
19. ADVANTAGES: CLIP MIC DISADVANTAGES: CLIP MIC
Very easy to use
Easy to keep out shot
Good sound quality
Easy to set up
Sound quality not as good as a
boom microphone.

20. Sound
To put a verdict to clip and boom microphones, we thought the
Clip microphone was much better to use than the boom microphone.
The biggest reason why we thought it was better was because of not having
to worry about it being in shot. Our location included a mirror in the
background and keeping the boom microphone out of shot was time consuming
and it wasted time. Despite preferring the clip microphone I can understand when
a boom would be needed but that depends on the scene being filmed.
22. Lighting
• Lighting was probably the most challenging bit
of technology to overcome.
• The day we filmed it was a sunny day and some
scenes were too bright so we had to use the
lowest key lighting as possible.

• Lighting was probably the most challenging bit
of technology to overcome.
• The day we filmed it was a sunny day and some
scenes were too bright so we had to use the
lowest key lighting as possible.
• In some scenes the lighting on my face was too
dark so we used a mirror to reflect sunlight onto
my face, the mirror acted as our fill light whilst
the sun was acting as a backlight.
25. Lighting
In this shot we used a fill and a key light
but they were both too small.
Here we used a large mirror to reflect the
sun onto my face instead of using a fill and
a key light because it balanced out the amount
of light on my face better.
