DEPARTMENT MISSION
4. INTRODUCTION
Waterproofing of a surface is that the treatment of the surface to stop the passage
of water like fresh water or water from one aspect of a structure to the opposite
below traditional pressure.
Dampness during a building is that the presence of wetness in varied elements of
building like floor, wall, roof etc. Causes moistness during a structure
5. WATER PROOFING
The treatment given to prevent leakage of water from external surface (particularly from roof) is generally
termed as Water Proofing.
1.WC
2.Bathrooms
3.Terrace
4.Roofs and Chajja
5.Basement, swimming pools, underground ducts.
6, Under ground and overhead water tanks
Water proofing is done in various parts of the building which include :-
6. MATERIAL USED FOR WATER PROOFING
Cement: Ordinary Portland cement is used for all water- proofing works...
Sand :-Clean river sand should be used for water-proofing work. If muddy, the sand should be washed before
use.
Metal :- Hard angular metal of sizes varying from 12mm to 20mm is used for water-proofing works.
Bock bat: Brick bats should be well burnt pieces of bricks having proper thickness. Under burnt or over burnt
brick bots should not be used for water-proofing work.
Water proofing chemical :-Bitumen
Mixed with a filler component such as limestone or sand Polymers are added to the bitumen such as APP a plastic
additive that gives rigidity and tear resistance, or SBS (styrene butadiene styrene) a rubber additive that gives more
elastic benefits
7. Properties of waterproofing materials:
It ought to be proof
It ought to be sturdy
It ought to be able to resist hundreds to that it’ll be subjected.
It ought to be in position to accommodate some structural movement while not fracture
9. DAMP PROOFING
The treatment given to keep the walls, floors and basement dry is termed as Damp
Proofing.
Membrane Damp-proofing
Surface Treatment
Integral Damp-proofing,
Cavity Wall Construction,
Pressure Grouting
METHOD OF DAMP PROOFING
10. MATERIAL USED FOR DAMP PROOFING
Flexible materials like butyl rubber, hot bitumen (asphalt), plastic sheets,
bituminous felts, sheets of lead, copper, etc.
Stones
Mortar with waterproofing compounds
Coarse sand layers under floors
Continuous plastic sheets under floors
Rigid materials, like impervious brick, stone, slate, cement mortar, or cement
concrete painted with bitumen, etc.
11. Properties of ideal damp proofing
material:
It ought to be proof.
It ought to be versatile.
It ought to be sturdy.
It ought to be simple to hold out leak proofing joints.
It ought to resist the load safely
