Spain is a democratic
state. That means that:
Every body has the
same rights and
obligations.
We are equal in the
eyes of the law,
whatever our gender,
race or religion.
Power resides with the
people, who freely elect
those who govern them.
3. THE CONSTITUTION
The Spanish
Constitution is the
fundamental law of Spain
(since 1978).
In Spain ,the head of
state is the monarch (the
king) but he does not
govern.
Spain is a parliamentary
monarchy ,divided into
17 autonomous

The Constitution
divides state power into
three branches:
The legislative power: it
is held by Parliament.
The executive power : it
is held by the
Goverment.
The judical power it is
exercised by judges.
5. THE EUROPEAN UNION
The European Union is
an economic and
political union of 28
European countries. It
was founded in 1957,
but Spain became part
of it in 1986. They
have the same
currency: euro.
