LAST Conference 2017 All projects are red until they deliver something work...Phillip Gadzinski

Doing More with Less:The Crisis, Cooperation, and the Librarykramsey
The current financial situation has forced many libraries to pay unprecedented attention to how they are organized to achieve their missions. One common thread emerging in the responses is cooperation: those needing to cut costs sharply are finding that they cannot do so incrementally but must instead transform their activities in ways that spread cost and diffuse risk among many partners. The talk will cover some of the opportunities available for transformative institutional collaboration among libraries, including collaborative, open source software development as well as the challenges facing those attempting to collaborate. It will pay particular attention to the question of how to collaborate strategically: that is, how to ensure that collaboration retains or increases a library’s ability to pursue mission, enhance agility, increase sovereignty, and improve sustainability.

Measuring Social Enterprise Impacts and Benefits:Emerging Approaches and IssuesKarim Harji
Presentation at the CASC/ANSER conference, Ottawa, May 27, 2009
For many social enterprises, the important issues of accountability and performance often get funneled into a discussion around metrics and measurement. Yet the measurement of the “blended value” (financial, social and environmental) that is created by social enterprise is a relatively under-developed facet of the social finance marketspace. This session will present emerging approaches and methods to assess, manage and communicate the complexity of social and financial value creation. Drawing on Canadian and international examples, the potential contributions of these approaches to the broader debate around social impact measurement will also be examined.
I was invited as a Key note speaker at the Healthcare Management Forum at Arab Health 2009 and spoke on my experiences in the management of hospitals in several different countries and the critical need of understanding the role of culture and a ready made tool kit to settle down in a new job.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

13. Lessons Learned
• Look at it from changing Behaviour / Culture
• There is no one way to do KM. Get across a few different ways and
work out what is going to be suitable in your situation.
• Find what is already working in your environment and see what
makes it tick.
• Include those you are going to effect in the design & decision making.
• People before Technology
• Don’t try to do it all at once. Pace yourself.
• Ask “Has this been done before?”. Learn from previous efforts.
Practice what you preach.
• Leader Behaviour People follow the Leader.
• More people offer than ask for help
