Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda had a distinguished naval career spanning over 40 years. He made major contributions to defeating the LTTE during the Eelam wars through strategic leadership as Commander of the Navy from 2005-2009. Key leadership qualities he demonstrated included courage, decisiveness, endurance, initiative and loyalty. After retiring from the navy, he served as National Security Advisor and Ambassador to Japan, promoting Sri Lanka's interests abroad.
