- Click the CC button
- Click the automatic captions link.
- If YouTube gets you 100%, you speak with a very standard American accent. For the rest of us – it will be word salad…
- Click Actions and choose .sbv
- Open the file in Notepad ++ (Free Open Source Software that is better than Notepad)
- Edit the text
- Give the file a new name and ensure you add the extension .sbv
- Go back to YouTube and click on Add captions and then Upload a file
- You should now see two active tracks. Click on the automatic caption track.
- Click Actions and select Disable.
- You will be taken o the Disabled tracks tab. Click on Active tracks.
- Click the caption preview link and turn on captions.
- You should see your captions on the screen. To adjust timing, click on the track.
- Your caption will appear in transcript mode.
- To edit your caption text, click on the text and type in the box
- To edit your caption timing, click in the time field and change the timing. Please note: when changing timing, you cannot have overlap between the end of one and the start of another line. to hold one line of text on screen longer, you must first edit the start time of the next line of text.
- To check your captions, log out and view it as would your intended audience. Click the caption button to view the captions and then click the transcript button to view the transcript.
