Ada Lovelace was an English mathematician in the 1800s who is considered the first computer programmer. She worked with Charles Babbage on his early mechanical general-purpose computer called the Analytical Engine. Her notes on the engine included what is considered the first computer program - an algorithm designed to be processed by a machine. Lovelace had a talent for mathematics from a young age and studied it privately. In 1833 she met Babbage and took an interest in his Analytical Engine, working with him to further develop and analyze the machine's theoretical and practical capabilities. Her work not only helped develop Babbage's ideas but established her as one of the most important historical figures in both computing and science.
