2. 1- Language Proficiency
Teachers have various responsibilities and roles either inside or outside the classrooms.
They have a major and significant role in the educational process since they are the closest
members of the educational process who are in contact with children and societies. According to
this huge role they have to have a high level of language proficiency. Language proficiency is
defined as the ability of someone to speak and use a language. To be proficient English language
speaker is to demonstrate both fluency and accuracy, and using a variety of discourse strategies.
The teacher role is to make hisher students proficient English language speakers. However,
language proficiency is affected by the curriculum design and content, the traditional teaching
methods. Furthermore, assessment design is not challenging which result in having a moderate
level of English. It is related to the course content, materials, procedures, teaching style standards
and work experience.
There are three types or parts of language proficiency interpersonal which may show in
writing and reading like letters and texts, speaking and listening such as conversation. It usually
involves the exchange of information. The second type is interpretive which may show in the
reading of authentic texts like websites, stories and other literature, articles and signs and
listening to authentic texts such as speeches, messages, songs, radio news and ads. The last one is
presentational which may show in writing messages, articles, advertisements, brochures, short
stories, reports, scripts, PowerPoint presentations and Speaking like telling a story, giving a
speech, and TV or radio news.
3. Speaking course presentation:
It was a persuasive speech in the speaking course with Dr Fatma AL-rubayei. The
presentation was about “ TV does not lead to violence”. It shows the interpersonal skills of the
presenter. Moreover, it helps to master language proficiency. The Accuracy and fluency are
evaluated in this assignment. Also, the speaking skills in the presentation are assessed such as
voice in term of volume, rate and clarity. Body language since it is an important component in
the presentation because it helps to deliver the message clearly. It is persuasive speech, so the
presenter should have clear and strong arguments. The main purpose is to convene the audience
with your argument, so you should have to have strong evidence. I suggest giving the student to
choose more challenging topics to give more chances to show their abilities.

5. 2- Assessment of language and cultures- the impact on students learning
Assessment plays an essential role in language teaching and learning. The day to day
assessment of student learning is unquestionably one of the teacher’s most important, complex
and demanding tasks. As teachers, we are the principal agents of assessment, so we need to
ensure the quality of classroom assessment practices and to use these practices in ways that best
support our students’ learning
Assessment events, such as when a teacher organizes an oral presentation or a listening
activity, can support students when the events occur with the right frequency, so that the teacher
knows whether instruction is successful, which areas need more instruction, and which student or
group of students may need additional support. As teachers, we need to consider how many
assessment activities we use and how frequently we use them in our classroom

Unit plan for unit 4 grade 8 assessment part in the field experience course:
I chose the assessment part in my unit plan as an evidence to show the importance of
assessment in the teaching process because it is the best way to know if the student achieved the
goals of learning or not. Also, assessment tools show the teacher’s abilities and effectiveness. It
is important to apply both types of assessment in each unit here in this unit I used both, formative
assessment and summative assessment.
Assessment of student learning
6. Formative assessment is important in order for the teacher to know if she meets the learning
goals and objectives of this unit. There are different ways to assess students learning using the
formative assessment: questioning is the assessment which can be used at any time to assess the
students understanding. However, the teacher should ask good questions which can give a
reflection of what the students understood and what they still need. In addition, the teacher
should not ask yes/any questions only but the questions which need full sentence’s answers. For
example, asking questions after reading texts on p33and p 34 “Do you think these cities are great
if so why?”
Another type is a discussion, it is an essential way of assessment which tells the teacher
about the students’ learning and understanding of the basic concepts. For example, the teacher
will initiate the first lesson by a discussion about the cities that the students have been to. The
goal of this assessment is to build knowledge and develop creative thinking skills. In addition,
the teacher will be able to know the background knowledge of the students.
Furthermore, another effective form of formative assessment is self-assessment. For
example, students can write their feedback at the end of the lesson which is as evaluation of their
own understanding and ideas.
Additionally, conducting a quiz by the end of the unit could also be a good way for
formative assessment. Though the quiz usually assesses the four skills reading, writing, grammar
and vocabs, the topics should be related to the topic of the unit “Great Cities”.
Assessing my students' speaking skill by asking to do mini-presentations about their home
towns, cities and village and they have to apply the grammar rules of the unit. I will also give
them a short quiz containing the vocabulary of the unit which they have to break down into their
7. syllables. Grammar quiz is very important. In addition, I am going to continuously assess my
students' participation in the class.
Summative evaluation, it will be about all the units of the book. It will be in the form
Summative assessment will be at the end of the unit in a form of short tests. One will be a
writing test about life in future as a theme. There will be another test that focuses on vocabulary
and grammar.
Examples of assessment tools that I used and I like most.
I found that self assessment is the best. I gave my student opportunities to assess
themselves. Also, I assessed myself regularly. Moreover, I give my students weekly quizzes and
after each unit a test. However, I found that my student like to give presentations and to be
assessed on presentations. Honestly, it was a useful tool to assess my students and to know them
more and to know their interests.
