Our Vision To transform Smallholder chicken production into commercially viable enterprise with active private sector engagement that empowers rural women, increases income and nutrition of their family through delivery of more productive locally adaptable chicken, production inputs and services to rural communities ACGG Nigeria

- 6. To achieve developmental Objectives 1. Establish Innovation Platforms (IP) to include women, representatives of all stakeholders and actors in the SHC value chain at National & Sub-National levels 2. Support or create women SHC farmers’ cooperatives/Business Hubs 3. Support or create women’s business hubs of input suppliers and output buyers 4. Train as required actors of the SHC value chain and innovation platforms 5. Develop learning resources (manuals, videos, online etc.) in 4 Nigerian languages on chicken management best practices 6. Establish monitoring and evaluation systems for the SHC VC and IP To Achieve Research Objectives 6. Carry out baseline survey of the status of SHC in the 5 zones 7. Conduct on-station and on-farm evaluation of the genetic strains 8. Establish a sustainable data and sample collection system for long-term genetic gains evaluation Approach: Women @ the Centre

Training of Field Officers/Enumerators July 2015 5. Baseline Survey (Open Data Kit) Starts August 2015 6. On-Station testing A) FUNAAB alpha and ShikaBrown® already started at FUNAAB B) Testing of other strains will start at OAU and other private poultry farms Start August 2015 7. Identify or launch SHC cooperatives August 2015 8. Capacity Building September 2015 Implementation Schedule
- 8. 9. Finalize import permits for the foreign genotypes (Fertile Eggs) October – December 2015 10. Identify 20 private brooder farms (4 in each zone) for distribution of 21 – day-old chickens December 2015 11. Establish SHC Biz Hubs input suppliers (Toll feed millers, Animal Health input suppliers) and Output buyers (Egg sellers, Fowl Sellers December 2015 12. On-farm Testing (2,700 HH across Nigeria) Starts January 2016 13. Establish Monitoring & Evaluation system for on-farm activities January 2016 14. Summarize on-station performance data up to six months in lay September 2016 15. Summarize on-farm performance data up to 6 months in lay and on- station data up to 12 months in lay June 2017 16. Identify/Establish 1 private or PP company with monetary commitment to development (testing, multiplication, distribution) of at least 2 preferred strains December 2017 Implementation Schedule

- Which genetically improved breed is highly productive within the NG context If the introduction/adoption of the improved breeds will indeed have a positive impact on the living conditions of the farmers HH And Women Empowerment
- The sites being considered for this project have been selected/mapped out along the agro-ecological and geopolitical zones. To which we have 5 zones
- Our aim and approach is not to conduct full fledge poultry research but to make available researched poultry products, services & tech So we have these 6 genetic materials that have been improved and r tropically adapted These are the genetic materials that will be tested across NIG for production and productivity growth 6 breeds or genotypes of the improved tropically adapted chickens
- Our approach at achieving the developmental/research objectives is to focus on women participation/ engagement! Be it at the innovation platforms, Value chains, M&E, on-farm etc
- Not only do we want it to be women centred we also designed to be driven by PPP To create a viable SHC sub-sector in the poultry industry
