Meeting the Needs of Every Student
  Romulus High School Staff Meeting
          January 24, 2007

We cannot teach the students we used to
have, we wish we had, or we hope to have. We
have to teach the students we have in our
              classroom right now.
DID YOU KNOW?
 You have 18 seconds to engage the
  learner.
 To keep students’ attention. It is
important to change the learning state
  every 7-10 minutes
 Every 20-30 minutes, stop and ask the
students to make personal meaning with
  the material. Known as sifting.
 After 17 minutes sitting blood pools into
   hamstrings. Melatonin is released causing
   state of sleepiness.
Today’s Goals & Objectives
 Understand how to address your
    students’ needs in:
     All subject areas
     Learning needs
 Understand and address the needs of
students with disabilities in your class
Areas of Accommodation

 The activity or content is reinforced.
 Activity or content is modified
 A parallel activity is developed
 The classroom activity is the same, but
    final outcome is different
In order to
teach the
students we
have today,
We need a
magic hat
full of
tricks!
