This document provides guidance on academic writing. It explains that an essay should have a clear thesis and use examples and citations to argue and prove that thesis. The introduction should contain the thesis statement and the conclusion should reiterate the argument. When planning, writers should consider the purpose, audience, and questions to be answered. They should clarify main ideas, avoid unnecessary information, and determine what type of essay they are writing. Researching requires finding necessary proofs and supporting information from reliable sources to reinforce the argument. When revising, writers should check that they have fulfilled the assignment requirements and that the introduction and conclusion frame the overall argument.

The term critique can be defined as objectively analyzing an article. Critique is the process of evaluating an article thoroughly and analytically. There are many types of articles and content of varied tones and themes, and critical analysis of them is done in critique writing.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
2. TO REMEBER!
An essay should have an argument. It should
answer a question or a few related questions. It
should try to prove something—develop a single
"thesis” including examples and confirming citations
from any particular text or sources your argument
involves. Gathering such evidence normally entails
some rereading of the text or sources with a
question or provisional thesis in mind.
3. The beginning of the essay is the introduction
containing your thesis statement. The end is
the conclusion, and the middle or body of the essay
contains the argument, supported by evidence or
example and designed to prove your thesis.
4. FIRST STEP
PLANNING AND ORGANIZING IDEAS
Which is the overall purpose of the writing?
Who is the audience?
What questions are supposed to be answered?
6. ORGANIZE YOUR WRITING
When you begin planning, ask the following
questions:
What type of essay am I going to be writing?
Does it belong to a specific genre?
7. SECOND STEP
READING AND RE SEARCHING
Necessary proofs are essential for the arguments
stated in the writing.
Supporting information reinforce the message and
persuade the reader.
8. EXAMINE THE EVIDENCE
What counts as evidence in this argument?
From what sources is this evidence taken?
9. HOW TO EVALUATE SPECIFIC RESOURCES ON
THE NET?
Ask these questions when looking at a Web site:
Who is the author? Are her/his qualifications
specified?
Who is the sponsor of the Web site? Is the author
affiliated with a reputable institution or
organization?
10. What audience is the Web site designed for?
Is the Web site current? Is the site dated?
Is the author’s point of view impartial and objective?
11. THIRD STEP
Revising and Editing:
Check if you have fulfilled the intention of the
assignment.
Look at the overall organization.
12. Consider these questions:
Does your introduction make clear where the rest of
the paper is headed?
Would a person reading your conclusion know what
question you had asked and how you had arrieved
at your answer?
13. Read passages aloud to see if you have achieved
the emphasis you want
Be sure to use spell check
Don’t depend on a thesaurus or grammar checker.
14. Once you have a well organized draft. After
revising sentences with special attention, the final
copy will be ready to be finished.
