The Chinese language has existed for over 6,000 years and is the oldest written language in the world. Chinese character inscriptions dating back to the Shang Dynasty between 1766-1123 BC prove the written language has been used for over 3,000 years. While modern Chinese (Mandarin) uses a simplified writing system compared to traditional characters, Chinese characters have heavily influenced other Asian languages such as Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese. Over 1.5 billion people around the world can speak Chinese, including native speakers in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Chinese language learners abroad.

From Ottoman to Turkish
The Turkish language originated in the Altay region over 1,300 years ago, with written records dating to northern Siberia. As Turkic peoples migrated throughout Central Asia and the Middle East, the language incorporated vocabulary from Arabic and Persian to describe new religious, philosophical, and artistic concepts. The Ottoman language was based mainly on Turkish but contained grammar and many words from Arabic and Persian. After establishing the Turkish Republic, Atatürk instituted wide-ranging language reforms to create a Turkish language that was less Arabic and Persian influenced and more in line with Turkish roots. This included adopting the Latin alphabet to replace the Arabic script and purging non-Turkish vocabulary.

Balochi language
Balochi is the language spoken in Balochistan province of Pakistan. There are two main dialects of Balochi - Sulemanki and Mekrani. Balochi was brought to the region by nomadic tribes from north-west Iran who rarely settled in one place for long, contributing to Balochi remaining primarily an oral language with little early development of poetry and prose. After Pakistan's partition, steps were taken to promote Balochi, including starting Balochi language radio broadcasts from Karachi and Quetta television, establishing literary associations, and the emergence of modern Balochi poets and writers working to advance the language.
