The Neo-Babylonian Empire expanded greatly under King Nebuchadnezzar II from 604-562 BCE. He rebuilt Babylon's ziggurat and expanded their territory by driving out the Egyptians from Syria. The Neo-Babylonians made advances in mathematics, astronomy, timekeeping, and invented the first sundial. However, the Persian king Cyrus the Great conquered the Neo-Babylonian Empire in 539 BCE, incorporating it into the new Persian Empire.
