This document describes a new wearable ECG monitoring system for continuous arrhythmia monitoring in home care situations. The system uses a wireless sensor that transmits ECG recordings to a handheld device. The device analyzes the ECG for arrhythmias and transmits alarms and data over GPRS to a clinical station. The system is intended to allow patients to be monitored while mobile at home, and provides early alarm detection. Preliminary testing found the system obtains ECG recordings comparable to other ambulatory monitors. Further clinical trials are needed to verify the system's ability to reliably detect arrhythmias during daily activities.
