Uber was founded to fill a need to get people where they need to be, without using a traditional taxi
service. "To passengers, Uber is essentially synonymous with taxis, and to drivers, it's basically a

2009 with Garrett Camp, originally known as Ubercab.) Anyone needing local transportation can
request a ride through their application, available on iOS, Windows, and Android devices, which
sends the request to all drivers in the area. An available driver claims the job, then use their personal
vehicle to transport the customer. Upon completion, the driver and passenger complete a survey
detailing the job. Currently, Uber operates in 58 countries, and 300 cities worldwide, almost
guaranteeing that there is a driver available near you. At the end of 2014, Uber had over 160,000
drivers, acting as private contractors for the company. The company was designed to be, basically, a
head for many contractors to operate under, taking a percentage of the money made by the

Introduction
On 25 June 1950, North Korea forces launched a surprise invasion on South Korea under the
command of Kim Il–sung and the North Korean People's Army. During this time, the North Korean
People's Army forced through the 38th parallel and pushed through the unprepared Republic of
Korea forces to the Southeast Pusan peninsula. The approximately 125 mile defensive perimeter was
where United Nation forces withdrew to by August, 1950 and held that Southeast position of the
peninsula. While UN forces were outnumbered, commanders were in search for a new course of
action that would help skew the war in favor of them. It was then General of the Army Douglas
MacArthur first envisioned his plan for what would become the Battle of Inchon. Inchon is located
in the Northwestern corner of modern South Korea and was a key location for the North Korean
forces. Inchon, located just 25 miles west of the nation's capital, Seoul, was a key location for North
Korean resupplies . Friendly intelligence and air reconnaissance observed that there were two major
supply lines that were along the two major highways coming from both the northeast and northwest.
It was through these two major supply lines that North Korean forces were able to then disseminate
supplies throughout the South Korean peninsula and ultimately down to the Pusan area in the

Igor Sikorsky widened the field of aviation throughout his life with inventions that caught the
interest of the world. In the early 1920's, after successfully building a four–engine biplane, Sikorsky
began his work on amphibian aircraft. The aircraft proved to be versatile with its ability to take off
and land on an airstrip or in the water. Sikorsky increased the size and maximum range of his
designs until producing the S–42 Flying Clipper. His line of amphibian planes became the precursor
to commercial transoceanic flight. He played an important role in both the introduction of
amphibian aircraft and its transition into commercial aviation. Sikorsky also contributed heavily to
the development of the helicopter and research of rotary flight design. His design concept that had
one main lifting rotor in combination with a smaller rotor to counteract torque is still used in modern

Sun Tzu's military acumen resonates in the current discussion of the Marine Corps' preparedness to
conduct forcible entry. The Army and Marine Corps saw significant successes utilizing forcible
entry and amphibious operations in the Pacific during WWII and the Korean War. The landing at

The ANZAC had to control the Dardanelles by capturing the Gallipoli peninsula from Turkey, in
order to capture Constantinople and control the Strait of Bosporus. 2 However, the amphibious

one of the most underrated but critical engagements of the second world war. The summer of 1944

However, by their nature, periphery operations, especially in unlimited war, fail to attack the
enemy's center of gravity and therefore, usually fail to inflict "grave" damage to the enemy. In rare
cases where sufficient forces are available, such as the Allied invasion of NW Europe in WWII,
truly "grave" damage can be sufficiently inflicted. But this situation is not "usually" the case.
Employing amphibious forces also carries a significant risk that damage to one's own forces will be
disproportionate with that inflicted upon the enemy. The Spartan Hoplite invasion of Sphacteria
provides an extreme example where the invading force was isolated and destroyed. A similar
example is the British WWI invasion of Gallipoli. Although not completely destroyed, the invading
force was isolated on the beachhead and severely mauled. Requirements for troop replenishment and

resupply created a festering sore that drained Britain's war effort on a secondary front removed from
Germany, the primary enemy. Damage to the Turkish forces was not "grave" and was certainly out
of proportion with the cost in any case. The allied invasion at Anzio in WWII was another similar
example of disproportionate cost/benefit, at least in its initial stages. Finally, embarking upon an
amphibious invasion often means opening a second front. Such a move can have good or bad
strategic consequences that impact the relative value of any injury caused to the foe.

Colonel Joseph H. Alexander, in his book Utmost Savagery describes he battle of Tarawa as a
gruesome seventy–six hour battle, "which took the lives of six thousand human beings in a space of
three hundred acres – the identical size occupied by the Pentagon building and its parking lots." The
battle began in the early morning of November 20, 1943, as the United States Invasion fleet lay off
the coast of Betio, the island projected to attack among the Tarawa Atoll. There were 18,000 marines
sent to the attack on Tarawa and this seemed to be a more than sufficient number to easily secure the
island. The United States forces encountered many problems though as they started storming the
island on November 20. As the U.S. landing crafts attempted to invade the beaches of Betio, the
tides were too low for a number of the heavier boats to freely navigate to shore. On the morning of

landing craft to land properly. Instead, the tide rose to at most one foot above the reef. The reefs that
surrounded the island were now acting as another defense force for the Japanese and the American
