The document discusses finding shelter and protection from God rather than physical shelters. It provides 3 key aspects of shelter from God:
1. The Protection of the LORD - God protects his children and is with them, so they do not need to fear.
2. The Provisions of the LORD - In addition to protecting, God provides for his children and they can trust him during times of need.
3. The Providence of the LORD - God causes all things to work together for good and promises to always be with believers, as seen in Joseph's example. The conclusion encourages finding shelter in God when storms of life come.

Phil. 3:12-14 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Why did God give the Law - so high, So demanding, So unreasonable humanly speaking that no body (no man, no woman, no boy, no girl) has ever been able to keep them?
We confuse busyness ...with being productive, with being successful, efficient, to being meaningful.
We find in our Gospel text that Jesus too, was busy with life.
Yet, in the midst of this busyness, He finds time he makes time to find a solitary place to pray. A Quiet time a time alone with the Father.

The prodigal son can't turn back? The formation of the prodigal son, falling,...franktsao4
Every time we hear the story of the prodigal son returning, we will be very happy that the prodigal son finally turned around. But there are many people who have different ideas in between, 1) Why did no one help him when he was very poor, 2 ) And why, when he, as an Israeli, was so poor that he had to feed filthy pigs, 3) or he was so unlucky that he could not even eat the food that the pigs could eat. So how come many people's hearts were so unbearable, but once we help, will the prodigal son had chance to turn back?
In this lesson we describe God and His nature. We also define gods and how there is a war between the two. Both audio and slides can be found together at www.cmcoc.org

In our quest to imitate Jesus Christ, we seek to abide. Our seeking the Lord is to abide in Him and enjoy the blessings of that abode. The life of a seeking is hard, yet rewarding
Rom. 5:1-2 Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in our hope of sharing the glory of God.
In 2007 the congregation read through "The Message" New Testament by Eugene Peterson. This lesson is taken from the assigned reading from Apr 29-May 5.

Your energy goes where your love is directed. Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, “I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you,” so that we confidently say, “The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. Mt 28:19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Mk 16:15 And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.
Act 1:8 "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
Mt 13:15 For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.'
Tit 2:11-14 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.
Act 20:35 "I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive."
Rom 8:5-8 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
Rom 12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
Act 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
Heb 2:3 how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him.
Jn 12:42-43 Nevertheless even among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
Col 3:1-2 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
Mt 17:20 So Jesus said to them, "Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

The Book of Joshua is the sixth book in the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament, and is the first book of the Deuteronomistic history, the story of Israel from the conquest of Canaan to the Babylonian exile.
2. The Shelter In the Storm!
Ps 61:1 Hear my cry, O God; attend
unto my prayer.
Ps 61:2 From the end of the earth will I
cry unto thee, when my heart is
overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that
is higher than I.
Ps 61:3 For thou hast been a shelter for
me, and a strong tower from the enemy.
3.
4. How many of you have ever been
in a hurricane?
I can remember in 1995 when Hurricane Opal
hit the Gulf Coast of Florida!
♦ My family and I evacuated and drove up into
northern Alabama and found refuge in a military
dormitory that was being used as a hurricane
shelter!
♦ This is the only time I am aware of that I have
been in a shelter!
♦ Yet, many people have spent a great deal of
their lives in shelters!
5. Just What Is A Shelter?
Shelter = a place giving protection from bad weather or
danger; a place providing food and accommodations for
those in need (Oxford)
♦ Even here in our city there are many kinds of
shelters!
♦ Homeless shelters
♦ Animal shelters
♦ Tornado shelters
♦ Battered Women shelters
♦ And many more!
♦ All of these are designed to “help” in time of need!
6. The Most Important Shelter!
This is not so much a physical shelter, but a soul
saving shelter!
♦ What happens when we hear that a hurrican
or tornado is coming?
♦ Do we sit around and do nothing, or do we
start to get ready to face the storm?
♦ Do we say who cares, or do we try to
protect our families and our homes?
♦ Where will we go when the storms of life
come, when this life is over?
7.
8. I. The Protection of the LORD!
Truly it is good to be a Christian! A-men!
♦ There is no better life, than the life of a
Christian! Both now and later!
♦ 1Ti 4:7-8 But refuse profane and old wives'
fables, and exercise thyself rather unto
godliness. For bodily exercise profiteth little:
but godliness is profitable unto all things,
having promise of the life that now is, and of
that which is to come.
♦ Where do we go to find protection? In what
do we hope and trust tonight?
9. The child of God doesn’t need to be
afraid because God is with him!
♦ Num 14:9 Only rebel not ye
against the LORD, neither fear ye
the people of the land; for they are
bread for us: their defence is
departed from them, and the LORD
is with us: fear them not.
10. Deut 31:6-8 Be strong and of a good courage, fear
not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God,
he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee,
nor forsake thee. And Moses called unto Joshua,
and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be
strong and of a good courage: for thou must go
with this people unto the land which the LORD
hath sworn unto their fathers to give them; and
thou shalt cause them to inherit it. And the LORD,
he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with
thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear
not, neither be dismayed.
11. We need to understand “where” our
protection and power lies!
♦ Josh 1:5-7 There shall not any man be able to stand
before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses,
so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake
thee. Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this
people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land,
which I sware unto their fathers to give them. Only be
thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest
observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my
servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right
hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper
whithersoever thou goest.
12. Josh 1:8-9 This book of the law shall not depart
out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein
day and night, that thou mayest observe to do
according to all that is written therein: for then
thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then
thou shalt have good success. Have not I
commanded thee? Be strong and of a good
courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed:
for the LORD thy God is with thee
whithersoever thou goest.
Josh. 1:5-6 Faithful 1:7-8 Focus 1:9 Fearless!
13. Far too many trust in the wrong things and
go to the wrong places for protection!
♦ Ro 8:37-39 Nay, in all these things we are
more than conquerors through him that
loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither
death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities,
nor powers, nor things present, nor things
to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any
other creature, shall be able to separate us
from the love of God, which is in Christ
Jesus our Lord.
14. 1Co 15:57 But thanks be to God,
which giveth us the victory
through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1Jo 4:4 Ye are of God, little
children, and have overcome
them: because greater is he that
is in you, than he that is in the
world.
15. II. The Provisions of the LORD!
♦ Not only does God protect His children, He also
provides for them! A-men!!!
♦ The Bible often tells us of our need to trust in the Lord
& His provisions! (Mt. 6:19-34)
♦ When God is truly “first” we do not need to worry
about the storms of life!
♦ God is here to “help” us!
♦ Heb 13:5-6 Let your conversation be without
covetousness; and be content with such things as ye
have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor
forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my
helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
16. This does not mean we will never have a
need in life!
It means that God will alway give us strength to
endure what is put before us!
♦ Php 4:11-13 Not that I speak in respect of
want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I
am, therewith to be content. I know both how
to be abased, and I know how to abound:
every where and in all things I am instructed
both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound
and to suffer need. I can do all things through
Christ which strengtheneth me.
17. III. The Providence of the LORD!
To me this is where it really gets exciting!
♦ One of the greatest examples of providence is
found in the life of Joseph!
♦ He prospered in everything he did, because God
was with him!
♦ Ge 39:2-3 And the LORD was with Joseph, and
he was a prosperous man; and he was in the
house of his master the Egyptian. And his master
saw that the LORD was with him, and that the
LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand.
♦ When we learn to let go and let God, we learn to
live in the providence of the LORD!
18. Do you think that Joseph could have end up
where he did alone?
♦ Ge 45:5 Now therefore be not grieved, nor
angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for
God did send me before you to preserve life.
♦ Ge 50:19-21 And Joseph said unto them, Fear
not: for I am in the place of God? But as for you,
ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto
good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save
much people alive. Now therefore fear ye not: I
will nourish you, and your little ones. And he
comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.
19. We too are promised that God will be with us!
♦Mt 28:20b ... lo, I am with you always, even
unto the end of the world. Amen.
♦Ro 8:28 And we know that all things work
together for good to them that love God, to them
who are the called according to his purpose.
♦Heb 13:5-6 Let your conversation be without
covetousness; and be content with such things
as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave
thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say,
The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what
man shall do unto me.
20. Conclusion:
♦ Where will we go for “shelter in the storm?”
♦ I once heard someone say “the only thing in life
that is certain, is that life isn’t certain”
♦ I have often found this to be true in my life!
♦ Things do not always go as planned, and we
do not always understand why, but God
understands!
♦ Will you come to the Lord to find shelter? Will
you trust and depend on Him “when” and not “if”
the storms of life come?
♦ There is safety in the hands of the Lord!
