In our quest to imitate Jesus Christ, we seek to abide. Our seeking the Lord is to abide in Him and enjoy the blessings of that abode. The life of a seeking is hard, yet rewarding
2. Imitation of Christ
We learn how to be a Son
We learn how to follow
We learn how to obey
We learn how to do our part
We lean how to live
3. Imitation of Christ
The Heart
The Inner man
Not outward acts (fruit)
Not conformity to a model
Personal Conformity to Christ Jesus
We are redeemed
Christ likeness not sameness
In the image, not being the image
4. The Gospels tell us what Jesus did.
John 14-18 teach us how He did it
5. Elements
1. Indwelling Holy Spirit
2. Love to Obey
3. Word of God Abiding in You
4. Peace, heart not troubled, not
afraid
5. Full of Joy
6. Overcoming the World
6. Indwelling Holy Spirit
"I will ask the Father, and He will give
you another Helper, that He may be
with you forever; that is the Spirit of
truth, whom the world cannot
receive, because it does not see Him
or know Him, but you know Him
because He abides with you and will
be in you.
Joh 14:16-17 NASB
7. Love to Obey
Joh 14:21 "He who has My
commandments and keeps them is the
one who loves Me; and he who loves Me
will be loved by My Father, and I will love
him and will disclose Myself to him."
8. Word of God Abiding in You
Joh 14:23 Jesus answered and said to
him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My
word; and My Father will love him, and We
will come to him and make Our abode
with him.
Joh 15:7 "If you abide in Me, and My
words abide in you, ask whatever you
wish, and it will be done for you.
9. Peace
Joh 14:27 "Peace I leave with you; My
peace I give to you; not as the world gives
do I give to you. Do not let your heart be
troubled, nor let it be fearful.
Joh 16:33 "These things I have spoken to
you, so that in Me you may have peace. In
the world you have tribulation, but take
courage; I have overcome the world."
10. Full of Joy
Joh 15:11 "These things I have spoken to
you so that My joy may be in you, and
that your joy may be made full.
Joh 16:24 "Until now you have asked for
nothing in My name; ask and you will
receive, so that your joy may be made
full.
11. Overcome the World
Rom 8:35-39
2Co 2:14-16
2Co 4:6-10
2Co 6:1-10
Rev 3:21
Rev 12:11
12. Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will
tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or
nakedness, or peril, or sword? Just as it is written,
"FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE BEING PUT TO DEATH ALL
DAY LONG; WE WERE CONSIDERED AS SHEEP TO
BE SLAUGHTERED." But in all these things we
overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us.
For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor
angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor
things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth,
nor any other created thing, will be able to separate
us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our
Lord.
Rom 8:35-39 NASB
13. But thanks be to God, who always leads us in
triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the
sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every
place. For we are a fragrance of Christ to God
among those who are being saved and among
those who are perishing; to the one an aroma from
death to death, to the other an aroma from life to
life. And who is adequate for these things?
2Co 2:14-16 NASB
14. For God, who said, "Light shall shine out of
darkness," is the One who has shone in our hearts
to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of
God in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure
in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness
of the power will be of God and not from ourselves;
we are afflicted in every way, but not crushed;
perplexed, but not despairing; persecuted, but not
forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always
carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, so
that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our
body.
2Co 4:6-10 NASB
15. And working together with Him, we also urge you not to receive the
grace of God in vain-- for He says, "AT THE ACCEPTABLE TIME I
LISTENED TO YOU, AND ON THE DAY OF SALVATION I HELPED YOU."
Behold, now is "THE ACCEPTABLE TIME," behold, now is "THE DAY OF
SALVATION"-- giving no cause for offense in anything, so that the
ministry will not be discredited, but in everything commending
ourselves as servants of God, in much endurance, in afflictions, in
hardships, in distresses, in beatings, in imprisonments, in tumults, in
labors, in sleeplessness, in hunger, in purity, in knowledge, in patience,
in kindness, in the Holy Spirit, in genuine love, in the word of truth, in
the power of God; by the weapons of righteousness for the right hand
and the left, by glory and dishonor, by evil report and good report;
regarded as deceivers and yet true; as unknown yet well-known, as
dying yet behold, we live; as punished yet not put to death, as
sorrowful yet always rejoicing, as poor yet making many rich, as
having nothing yet possessing all things.
2Co 6:1-10 NASB
16. 'He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit
down with Me on My throne, as I also
overcame and sat down with My Father on
His throne.
Rev 3:21 NASB
17. "And they overcame him because of the
blood of the Lamb and because of the word
of their testimony, and they did not love
their life even when faced with death.
Rev 12:11 NASB
