I believe... sin
is deadly!
Often in life we have a tendency to take
things to lightly!
▪ As I look back over my life I can recall many
mistakes and bad choices I have made.
▸ At the time of them I often didn’t consider the long
term consequences for them!
▸ I was simply just “living in the moment!”
▪ I am sure that everyone here can look back over
your life and see the same!
In our lesson today we will
be working to properly
understand the “deadly
nature of sin” and how it
affects our lives!
Let us begin by noting some verses together!
▪ Rom 5:12 Therefore, just as through one man sin
entered the world, and death through sin, and thus
death spread to all men, because all sinned--
▪ Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the
gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
▪ Rom 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the
glory of God,
It is because of sin that
Jesus had to die!
▪ 2 Cor 5:21 For He made Him
who knew no sin to be sin for
us, that we might become the
righteousness of God in Him.
I. The Seriousness of Sin!
▪ Sin separates us from God! (Cf. Gen. 3:1-8)
▸Is 59:1 & 2 Behold, the LORD'S hand is
not shortened, That it cannot save; Nor
His ear heavy, That it cannot hear. But
your iniquities have separated you from
your God; And your sins have hidden His
face from you, So that He will not hear.
A holy God can have nothing to do
with sin!
▪ If we desire to be with Him, then we
must learn to despise sin!
▸ 1 Pet 1:15 & 16 but as He who
called you is holy, you also be holy in
all your conduct, because it is written,
"Be holy, for I am holy."
II. The Source of Sin!
▪ Why do we sin? Where does sin come from? Can we
over come sin?
▸ These are questions that we need to ask and answer if
we desire to overcome sin!
▸ The truth remains that it is only “the sinner” that sees
their need for a Savior!
– Lk 18:13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not
lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon
his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
Sin always comes in one or more of these
three ways!
▪ 1 Jn 2:16 For all that is in the world- -the lust of
the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--is
not of the Father but is of the world. (Cf. Gen. 3:6)
▸ Lust of the flesh “good for food”
▸ Lust of the eyes “pleasant to the eyes”
▸ Pride of life “make one wise”
The good news is that we do not have to
give into sin!
▪ 1 Cor 10:13 No temptation has
overtaken you except such as is common
to man; but God is faithful, who will not
allow you to be tempted beyond what you
are able, but with the temptation will also
make the way of escape, that you may be
able to bear it.
4 passages in the NT that state what “is sin/or
sin is!”
▪ Rom 14:23 But he who doubts is condemned if he eats,
because he does not eat from faith; for whatever is not
from faith is sin.
▪ Js 4:17 Therefore, to him who knows to do good and
does not do it, to him it is sin.
▪ 1 Jn 5:17 All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not
leading to death.
▪ 1Jn 3:4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness,
and sin is lawlessness.
III. The Solution of Sin!
▪ The good news is that we do not have to sin
because God is here for us!
▸ 1 Cor 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you
except such as is common to man; but God is
faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond
what you are able, but with the temptation will also
make the way of escape, that you may be able to
bear it.
One may ask, “what about the sins I have
already committed? How can I overcome
them?”
▪ This is an excellent question! You see, each one
of us needs to ask and answer this question because
we have all sinned! (Rom. 3:23) and the wages of
sin is death (Rom. 6:23)
▪ The good news is that God is offering us a “gift”
instead! God is willing to pay for our sins! Grace!
Peter gives us the simple answer to the
question “how do I overcome the sins I have
already committed?”
▪ Act 2:38 Then Peter said to them,
"Repent, and let every one of you be
baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for
the remission of sins; and you shall
receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Conclusion:
▪ Do you understand the deadly
nature of sin?
▪ Have you come to receive the
solution?
▪ If you are not yet a child of God,
then today is the day of Salvation,
tomorrow maybe too late!
