Col 3:1-2 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.

Fellowship is important to understand since it describes the special relationship all Christians have with God and with one another. We share things together that most of the world does not and that common sharing allows us to find our true destiny and weather the storms of life in the good ship Fellowship.

This is message Pastor Chuck Bernal shared at LifePointe Church's annual "WE LOVE OUR VOLUNTEERS" Sunday. This inspirational and challenging message described what it means to serve and why each of us should do so. This message was delivered on Sunday, February 14, 2016.
The birth of Christ is God’s deepest intention to love. Jesus is the ‘yes’ to God’s love – reminding us that God is already here and now…always ready to be with us in our becoming something new. Christmas is a time for us to move out of darkness...by beginning to see with a new set of eyes the glory of the God that shines around us. See what I mean...

As we learn to be disciples of Christ, we need to remember our identity in Him, and then to control our tongues, and allow Him full access of it, for His glory
Lk. 15:11-31 Then He said: "A certain man had two sons. "And the younger of them said to his father, 'Father, give me the portion of goods that falls to me.' So he divided to them his livelihood. "And not many days after, the younger son gathered all together, journeyed to a far country, and there wasted his possessions with prodigal living. "But when he had spent all, there arose a severe famine in that land, and he began to be in want. "Then he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. "And he would gladly have filled his stomach with the pods that the swine ate, and no one gave him anything. "But when he came to himself, he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 'I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you, "and I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired servants."' "And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. "And the son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight, and am no longer worthy to be called your son.' "But the father said to his servants, 'Bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet. 'And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; 'for this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' And they began to be merry. "Now his older son was in the field. And as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing. "So he called one of the servants and asked what these things meant. "And he said to him, 'Your brother has come, and because he has received him safe and sound, your father has killed the fatted calf.' "But he was angry and would not go in. Therefore his father came out and pleaded with him. "So he answered and said to his father, 'Lo, these many years I have been serving you; I never transgressed your commandment at any time; and yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might make merry with my friends. 'But as soon as this son of yours came, who has devoured your livelihood with harlots, you killed the fatted calf for him.' "And he said to him, 'Son, you are always with me, and all that I have is yours. 'It was right that we should make merry and be glad, for your brother was dead and is alive again, and was lost and is found.'"

Mt 28:19 "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Mk 16:15 And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.
Act 1:8 "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
Mt 13:15 For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.'
Tit 2:11-14 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.
Act 20:35 "I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive."
Rom 8:5-8 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
Rom 12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
Act 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
Heb 2:3 how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him.
Jn 12:42-43 Nevertheless even among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
Mt 17:20 So Jesus said to them, "Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

6. Together, Forward & Inward!
• In our 1st lesson on our theme for this year we
studied “It Starts with Self!”
– We noticed the danger of “fault finding, rather
than having faith!”
• In this next lesson I would like to take this a
step further & explore what must change inside
of us!
– We want to explore “how” we become the hands
& feet of Jesus!
7. The boy & the brick!
• How often do we get it wrong? How often are
we focusing on all the wrong things?
• The Bible many times teachings that “all the law
& the prophets” can be summarized in one
word!
– “Love” is where it’s at! (Rom. 13:8-10 cf. 1 Cor.
13:1-13; Jn. 13:34-35)
• The greatest command is simply!
– Love God & love others! (Mt. 22:34-40; Mk. 12:28-
31 & Lk. 10:25-28
8. We are at war with the world!
• Mt 10:34 “Do not think that I came to bring peace
on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword.”
• Js 4:4 Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know
that friendship with the world is enmity with God?
Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world
makes himself an enemy of God.
• 1 Jn 2:15 Do not love the world or the things in the
world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the
Father is not in him.
9. I. The Spiritual!
• Mt 10:34-37 "Do not think that I came to bring peace
on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword.
"and 'a man's enemies will be those of his own
household.' "He who loves father or mother more
than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son
or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.“
• How many of us believe what Jesus has spoken? If we
do, how has it changed our behavior?
– One thing for sure is that this will not be easy!
10. What do we love… more than the
Master?
• Mt 12:47-49 Then one said to Him, "Look, Your
mother and Your brothers are standing outside,
seeking to speak with You." But He answered
and said to the one who told Him, "Who is My
mother and who are My brothers?" And He
stretched out His hand toward His disciples and
said, "Here are My mother and My brothers!
11. Without Developing A Spiritual Mind-
set We Will Never Succeed!
• Rom 7:25 I thank God--through Jesus Christ our
Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the
law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.
• Php 2:5 Let this mind be in you which was also
in Christ Jesus.
• Rom 8:6 To set the mind on the flesh is death,
but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and
peace.
12. II. The Sacrifice!
• Mt 10:38-39 "And he who does not take his cross and
follow after Me is not worthy of Me. "He who finds his
life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will
find it.“
• Sacrifice = an act of giving up something valued for the
sake of something else regarded as more important or
worthy!
– Rom 12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brethren, by the
mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice,
holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual
worship.
13. We all have a cross to carry!
• Lk 9:23-25 And he said to all, "If any man would
come after me, let him deny himself and take up
his cross daily and follow me. For whoever
would save his life will lose it; and whoever loses
his life for my sake, he will save it. For what does
it profit a man if he gains the whole world and
loses or forfeits himself?
– Following the Leader will not always be fun or
easy! It will take sacrifice!
14. The Value of a Soul? Priceless!!!
• Why was Jesus willing to pay so much? Why was
He willing to sacrifice everything? Because He
sees us as “priceless!” In His eyes we are worth
it!
• How do we view others? What is our evaluation
& vision of them?
• Jesus wants us to place the same value on
others as He places on us!
15. III. The Service!
• Mt 10:40-42 "He who receives you receives Me, and
he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me. "He
who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet
shall receive a prophet's reward. And he who
receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous
man shall receive a righteous man's reward. "And
whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of
cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say
to you, he shall by no means lose his reward."
16. We can’t give away what we don’t
already have!
• We are blessed, to become a blessing!
Forgiven, to become forgiving! Comforted,
to comfort others!
• “Even a cup of water!” (cf. Mt. 25:31-46)
–The sheep & goats are separated according to
their “service” to others! Don’t miss this point!
• How many of us have a cup of water?
17. Conclusion:
• Two great invitations!
–Mt 11:28 "Come to Me, all you who labor and
are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
–Rev 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say,
"Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!"
And let him who thirsts come. Whoever
desires, let him take the water of life freely.
• Have you come to be forgiven? Then go
with Jesus! The world is counting on you!
