NEW TECHNOLOGY
Every year, every month, every day, new technology is developed. Not all of
it is good and really beneficial with assisting in the Education of our
youth. Those of us in the Education business, have to weed through the
good, the bad, and the ugly. Our teachers have to explore and make
logical decisions on what will work for them in the classroom. We have
to listen to them and take the time to explore the opportunities that
might actually work.
2
BLOCKINGS OF INTERNET SITES
It is quite unfortunate that we have to block out certain websites. We
cannot allow our students to access all information that is available on
the internet. It is not good that sometimes the blocking keeps students
from gaining access to important applications and information that can
improve their ability to learn.
3
THE NEED FOR ACCESS TO WEB 2.0
It has been brought to this office’s attention that there is a Web 2.0
application on the internet that has actually been around for a couple of
years. We researched it and found that it is an application that is used
by many educators and students around the United States.
Unfortunately, with the high security of the internet in our School
System, the students and teachers are unable to access it.

DIIGO
I would like to introduce you all to Diigo.
Diigo is a cloud based on-line application that assists students and
teachers in collecting, notating, organizing and sharing the information
that they find on the internet. Instead of copy and pasting the
information, as well as the website address on pages in Word, it can all
be kept in one spot. The other added advantage is that if you find some
information of interest, you can actually highlight that information on
the page and even add notes.

It is easy to access and set up an account and very user friendly.

ISTE STANDARDS FOR STUDENTS 2016
New ISTE Standards were just released for our students and we do like to
stay in compliance.
https://www.concordhill.org/uploaded/m_folder/PDFs/ISTE_Standards_f
or_Students_2016.pdf
The two standards that this application will assist us in staying in
compliance are:
 EMPOWERED LEARNER: Having access to this application will “enable
students to take an active roll in achieving in their learning goals.”
 KNOWLEDGE CONSTRUCTOR: Our students will be able to “critically curate
a variety of resources using digital tools to construct knowledge, produce
creative artifacts and make meaningful learning experiences for themselves
and others”.

ISTE STANDARDS FOR TEACHERS
The Standards for teachers have not been recently updated.
http://www.apple.com/education/docs/Apple-ISTE-NETS-Teachers.pdf
However we have always stayed strong with supporting our teachers and
making sure they stay in compliance. This application will assist our
teachers in “engaging students, improving learning and will also enrich
their professional practice”.
 “Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity”
 “Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments”
 “Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership”
