This document presents a proposed improved cascaded multi-level inverter configuration for photovoltaic systems that aims to minimize leakage current. The proposed topology reduces switch count and has lower switching and conduction losses compared to existing designs. It also aims to reduce high-frequency voltage transitions in the terminal and common-mode voltages to minimize leakage current and reduce the size of EMI filters. Simulation results validating the performance of the proposed five-level inverter configuration are presented along with an analysis and comparison with other topologies.
