The owner of copyrighted work has exclusive right to:

Rent or lend the work

6. Copyright Infringement
“Copyright infringement is the use or production of copyright-protected
material without the permission of the copyright holder.” (Kenton)
Individuals and companies who copyright their work, do so, to ensure that
they can profit from their efforts.

7. Fair Use for Educators
Fair use applies to all copyrighted work
regardless of the media in which they are
fixed.

10. TEACH Act
Restrictions and
Conditions
The Technology, Education and
Copyright Harmonization Act
amended Section 110(2) and 112 of
the Copyright Act to facilitate the
growth of distance learning.
11. TEACH Act Restrictions and Conditions
The TEACH Act is subject to the following restrictions:
1. Students are to be notified of copyright protection on materials given.
2. Copies of the works cannot be made available to students for longer than the class session
3. Institutions must have technical measures in place to limit access to enrolled students and to prevent
download and further distribution of materials
4. Institutions must raise awareness to faculty, students and relevant staff on copyright policies and provide
them with necessary information on fair use. Just to name a few.
