A Few Good Men Chapter 3 Analysis
The setting changes while Francie continues to mature into a woman. She becomes 16, and is beginning to lead a life of her own. The family leaves
the grieving they had for Johnny behind. Not only does Francie start out with a clean slate, so does the rest of the Nolan family. After the two and ВЅ
years of mourning for Johnny, Sergeant Mc Shane asks Katie to marry him. War rages through the country. While he and Katie make arrangements for
the fall wedding and gifts of money and whatnot, Francie makes headway in her personal life.
In college, a handsome young lad holding the name Ben Blake, seems to fancy Francie as they go on various study dates. He helps her cram for
college entrance exams. Though she fails the first time, she later tries again and gets accepted into Michigan University that Ben chose for her to
apply. Meanwhile, Katie receives a gift of $1,000.00 from Mc Shane, which she later uses for Francie's college money, and a gift to Evy– $200.00.
Laurie Nolan gets her last name changed to Mc Shane. The Nolans move from their humble apartment flat to the rich Mc Shane house. Neeley grows
older and Francie can't help but notice he is so alike to Johnny.
When the Nolans are finished moving, Francie says goodbye to all the places she once treasured; Carney's where she hauled junk, Cheap Charlie's,
where she tried to win prizes but never got any, Mcgaritty's saloon, and the library. Lastly, she sees Florry Wendy in her fire escape, reading and

Lacrosse And The Lacrosse Community
It is the first Sunday of September: and for many, it's just a typical Sunday evening, people go about their normal Sunday activities like going to
church, watching football, and enjoying time with their family. The first Sunday of September means a new beginning for the coaches and players of
Marvin Ridge High School lacrosse. This Sunday is the beginning of their road to a hopefully successful season and the return to Cary, North
Carolina to redeem themselves for the past two failed attempts to achieve greatness and hold up the State Championship trophy. Lacrosse isn't just a
hobby or a school sport to the players and coaches, it's a passion that drives them to get up every morning and want to be able to make it back to
Cary. Coach John Delucia is well known in the lacrosse community for his prestigious achievements from previous teams he has coached and his
amazing lacrosse career at Ohio State University.
I watched the ball roll into the back of the net; it was 12–12 in overtime against Cardinal Gibbons. This was my last game with my brothers, best
friends, and a family I will cherish for the rest of my life. I not only let my teammates down, I let my family down. We lost against Cardinal Gibbons
in the 2015 3A State Championship game 13–12 in overtime. When they scored their final goal I immediately dropped to my knees and began to sob,
I was not upset that I lost, I was upset that I let my family down and that was the last time I would ever step on the field with

What Is A Role Model
When you think of a role model, who comes to mind? Many would say an actor, singer, athlete, etc. My role model is my sister, Natasha Hobley.
For those who don't know Natasha personally, they probably wouldn't understand why she is a role model to me. However, I find her to be a role
model for many reasons. Not only is Natasha strong, fearless, and independent, but she is the most loving person I have ever met. Regardless of
the trials that have been thrown at her, she always comes out on top, and stronger than before. Natasha has unfortunately lost loved ones in her life,
but still manages to find happiness in the darkest situations. Despite battling mental and emotional battles, my sister continues to find the best in
situations, and always uplifts others. Ever since I was a child, I remember looking up to her and always wanting to be just like her. Natasha Hobley is
my role model. My sister Natasha is one of the most amazing and loving people I have ever met. Some of my earliest memories are of her taking care
of my two other sisters and me. I remember always going places with her and her friends, and her loving bringing me places. There was no greater
feeling than getting to go places with my big sister and her friends, that I thought were so cool! In January of 2017, my dad's brother passed away.
Our family had never had any huge losses, so it hit all of us pretty hard. Natasha lives in Las Vegas, Nevada, but the majority of our family lives in
Salt Lake City, Utah.

The Absolute Sweet Life Of Nolan Ryan Skurat
The Absolute Sweet Life of Nolan Ryan Skurat. By:Ryan Skurat As a young boy Nolan had always had a passion for sports. He had played just
about all the sports you could think besides lacrosse and hockey. Those are some pretty sweet sports though. Nolan was very interested in football
at a young age. He had played for mid rivers and played for o 'fallon, these little league teams were pretty good winning the renegade rumble on
both teams. After the years had passed he decided after getting a knee injury to take a break and look elsewhere in sports and see what he is good at.

The coaches only gave him a double inning and then it was the next guy in lines turn. Nolan had a friend named jason and they were best buds.
They had done everything together. Nolan had never played competitive sports and Jason had introduced him to all of the real competition in
basketball and baseball. Nolan was starting out and actually held his own. He had a lot of work to be done which that came with some money
involved. He had played for the stallions and prospects. Each team costed a pretty penny and his mom had to fit the bill. Jason 's parents did the
same but the difference was about college. Jason wanted to go to play college whereas Nolan didn 't want to make plans that might not be worth his
troubles. When they got into their 8th grade year they had been the talk of the town. Before their freshman year had started they had gone to some
camps to show off for high school coaches. Nolan and Jason didn 't not let anyone down. Nolan had gone в… and jason had gone 5/5. It was very
neat for the kids and they became workout buddies after. Every day they had hung out to do some sort of athletic activity. It was mostly baseball.
They had played for hours every day over the summer and when they got tired of that they started playing basketball. They had played on the same
team in sports since 8th grade and unfortunately it came to an end their senior year. Nolan had been experiencing some pain in his elbow when he was

What Does Basketball Mean To You Essay
Part of the Team
Basketball has been more than just a game in my life, it has always been a big part of my life, but it has been a part differently than what it is to
others. I love everything about basketball. I have done everything from keeping the official book for a men's and women's collegiate team to washing a
high school team's practice clothes and even making sure everyone has their uniforms and shoes before leaving for an away game. You don't have to
be on the court, you don't have to be the one taking the winning shot or calling the play to be part of the team. I want you to think about this instead of
feeling sorry for yourself because you didn't make the cut. I hope by the time you finish reading this you will realize ... Show more content on

Since the first time I began managing, I have never went a school year without helping at least one team. You might think only children at a young
age are treated the same as players when it comes to being on a team, but that's not the case. I was treated with the same respect and equality
throughout my junior and senior high years. I wanted to show it continues throughout school, so I interviewed many people associated with college
athletics and the responses I received along with my personal college experience, prove managers are seen as part of the team in college as well.
When I was in high school, I was included in every aspect of team decision making. The players were some of my best friends and they would ask
me questions about their game or their stats. The coaches always told the players they were not to question what I said, when it came to game stats.
This was important because of a point system our school used. The players lost points for fouls and turnovers and gained points for positive stats or
plays. They were not to question what I said in that part of the game. The coaches and players asked my opinion on different things and they always
valued what I said. They didn't always go with my view, but it was considered equally with the players' views.
I asked athletes, coaches and a manager from the University of Arkansas to tell me how they feel about managers. The first question I asked everyone
was, "Do you consider managers

Double Standards Of Women In The 18th Century
Persuasion is the last complete novel ever written by Jane Austen, it was originally published in 1818. At the initial sight, we feel that this book is a
delightful story about Anne Elliot finding love with Captain Frederick Wentworth again. Accompanying her throughout this story is her arrogant father,
dear friend Lady Russell, and her sisters. As we continue to read we see Jane Austen indirectly discourages the double standard women experience
during this time period. I regard this novel is classical literature, due to the fact that women still face double standard of men today. We see the everyday
complications women had in the 18th century through Anne Elliot, a young, intelligent women of the 18th century. Women of Jane Austen's time...

Today this difficulty still exists. Women make up half of the workforce. Studies show that women often go to college longer and graduate with higher
degrees than men do. But yet, today women still make less than men. "In 2015, female full–time workers made only 80 cents for every dollar earned by
men, a gender wage gap of 20 percent" (Pay Equality and Discrimination www.iwpr.org). Women can do the same jobs as men and still make less.
This is consistent in almost every occupation. Double standards against women are still as much of a problem today as it was then. Women today can
still relate to the double standards women faced in the 18th century. This would make Persuasion classical literature, literature that has enduring
qualities that can still be applied to present times. Women then were thought of as inferior to men, and incapable of the things men were capable of.
This still relates to today, women still get paid less and are still thought to be inferior to men. Both then and now women have proven to be just as
good as men, so why has nothing changed? Jane Austen tells the story in Anne Elliot's perspective of things to show the double standard women had to
face. We watch as Anne Elliot changes Wentworth's views on

Grows In Brooklyn
"Serene was a word you could put to Brooklyn, New York. Especially in the summer of 1912" (5), is the famous first sentence in Betty Smith's
bestseller, A Tree Grows In Brooklyn (ATGIB). Joche says this book reads realistically because it was prepared for us not by a statistician with an array
of facts and figures, not by a sociologist presenting a carefully prepared case history, not by a participant observer who has for a brief period lived
among the group, nor by a psychologist, a historian, or an economist, but by one who naturally combines all of these–who, herself, is a member of the
group about which she writes. (240)
Betty Smith was born in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in 1896, which helps her accurately portray the life of the Nolan's because it is similar to the one she
lived. The time period in which the Nolans lived greatly impacted the plot and characters of A Tree Grows In Brooklyn by Betty Smith through the
poverty, education, and gender roles that the Nolans experienced.. Throughout most of the novel, the Nolans live in substantial poverty specific to the
time period, which affects the children's ability to thrive in their environment. The Nolan parent don't have jobs that produce much income. Katie is a

The Fat Man In William Golding's Lord Of The Flies
When humans are separated from the society that they have lived in, there will be those who step forward to recreate that society, and there will be
those who seek to control. Throughout William Golding's "Lord of the Flies", Ralph has proven himself to be a Law and Rule obedient boy with an
urge to have order and just. At the moment Ralph discovers the Fat Boy, he immediately is taken by his rule oriented personality and begins his
conversation by questioning the presence of any adults. The whooping, hollering, and dancing could not convince Ralph to join the tribe of Jack and
it's painted–faced members for Ralph believes in being civilized. From the death of Simon, to Piggy, and to his own life bestowed upon a single
thread, Ralph shows immense emotion for not only himself, but for those close around him. From the moment Ralph awoke on the island and met the
Fat Boy, it was apparent that he would be the one to create a system just as the society that he had so unwillingly left behind. At the moment Ralph
discovers the Fat Boy, he immediately is taken by his rule oriented personality and begins his conversation by questioning the presence of any adults.
Instead of panicking, Ralph stays calm and starts figuring out the situation stating, "This is an island. At least I think it's an island. That's a reef out in

The reader can easily view that the couple is merely just passing time. However, several references could lead the reader to believe that the alcohol
consumption is a panacea for the couple. In the opening paragraph, the couple is getting off the train. They wanted to get something to drink. The
couple could have had any beverage to drink but the man suggested they drink beer and then he emphasized "big" ones. This was an indication that
the couple was dealing with something serious. In paragraph 87 when the girl did not want to talk anymore, she then asked if they could have
another beer (Stanford 841). It is human nature to avoid problems, as this couple is doing. Why do people drink? People develop dependencies, to
cope with troubles. In relation to Hemingway, he was among the many literary writers who were alcoholics. He even said, "That all good writers are
drinking writers" (Benedictus). Looking at the circumstances when Hemingway wrote the story, he was very depressed. He became so emotionally
depressed he vowed to kill himself by Christmas if his love affair had not settled (Baker 176). He faced guilt for divorcing Hadley. He also faced
criticism and rejection from his parents. They did not grant approval to his literary works. Hemingway's mother had even referred to one of his works

Jack And Ralph Relationship In Lord Of The Flies
Jack and Ralph's Relationship
The Lord of the Flies is a novel about two dozen boys who are stranded on a deserted island during World War II. In The Lord of the Flies, Ralph and
Jack's relationship directly affects tribal decisions and development. Jack and Ralph's differences in opinion, development of savagery, competitive
mind set and fight for power cause difficulty within the tribe.
Jack and Ralph's negative relationship develops there differences in opinion. Jack doesn't take it serious that his pig hunters are not contributing to
building the forts. "Wewant meat." "Well, we haven't got any yet. And we need shelters." (Golding 51). Jack does not understand the importance of
having the shelters built as much as Ralph does. Likewise, Jack neglects the fire in order to go on a pig hunt. This causes a ship to not notice and
to bypass the island. "There was a ship. Out there you said you'd keep the fire going and you let it out!" (Golding 70). Jack doesn't see the
importance in the rescue fire and neglects the job he was given by Ralph. Ralph makes the rule that the only fire allowed, is the one on top of the
mountain. (Golding 81). This insures that the hunters keep the fire going because they will need it to cook pigs. Ralph does not see the importance of
catching pigs as Jack does and only sees the importance of their rescue. In conclusion, Jack and Ralph neglect one another's priorities, leading the
development of a negative relationship.

Richardson Epistolary Style
Samuel Richardson is an English writer who published during 18th century. He is famious for his three epistolary novels: Pamela: Or, Virtue
Rewarded (1740), Clarissa: Or the History of a Young Lady (1748) and The History of Sir Charles Grandison (1753). Richardson's career was
unusual for literature. He started to write when he was fifty years old but his creativity was still young. The History of Mrs. Beaumont is Richardson's
last novel but it is unfinished. It is the story of a lady‚ whom „his soul loved" and it proves that Richardson's creativity was still working until
the day he died. He liked to think about his self as being a hero of an unhappy love story. By using the epistolary form in his novels, Richardson

Driven by clear moralistic intentions, he wrote the epistolary novel Pamela as a realistic sentimental parable based on an exemplary adventure. The
initial area of conflict is defined morally, in foreground being the rich seducer whose mother dies, Mr. B. and his maid, Pamela Andrews. Richardson
made in this way a sentimental tearful prose. The evolution of the plot is reproduced firstly by long letters of Pamela to her parents and by their
responses. Dialog items, indeed reduced, are also introduced in these fictitious letters. The style is constantly punctuated by moralizing judgments and
appeals to virtue, strongly standing out the echo of Puritan moral propagated by Richardson. Basic terms of conflict result from the aggressive
behavior of the master tempted to seduce the maid and her worthy resistance, although she was in love with him. Sentimental parable has a happy
ending. Converted to virtue by the young girl, Mr. B. who repents for his intentions, he proposed her a marriage. The victory of a simple and pure
person just emphasizes once again the cautionary lesson from this work. The story is complex: the main heroine is Pamela Andrews, a beautiful
15–years–old who was working as a maidservant in Bedfordshire. She was an innocent, pious and virtuous girl. After the death of Lady B, she
remained due to her wish as a servant in the house. Mr. B, the new country landowner master after his mother death, started to make advances
towards the young servant. He tried to seduce against her will and wanted to pay her to keep the secret about his mistake, but Pamela refused and
told the stories of his attempts to the housekeeper, Mrs. Jervis. One night he was hidden in her room and tried to kiss and after this event the poor
girl decided to go back to her impoverished parents to preserve her virtue. He proposed her to marry the chaplain from Lincolnshire, Mr. Williams, but

Relatable Characters In Pride And Prejudice Essay
Arianne E. Maghirang 11– Dempsey Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice had drawn a clear picture of Georgian England. It is a story of love and
marriage intersected by society and social ranks. She illustrates the convolutions of the past, when it was govern by strict etiquettes; divided by social
ranks and moreover the significant roles of women in the society. I believed that Jane had beautifully sketch relatable characters, and showed me how
they live by with these standards. She subtly points out the struggles of having these rules and standards. The story is interesting the minute it unfolds,

These social ranks are determined by the connections of one's family towards other strong and powerful families. As expected the greater the rank,
the greater the respect and power an individual has. A character that is not afraid to show off her power and rank is Lady Catherine de Borough.
Lady Catherine is the aunt of Mr. Darcy, a daughter of an Earl and a wife of a knight. She is proud of what she is, and is not afraid to assert her
opinions. The lady's air of importance and immense influence among the other characters, which easily conform to her, gives us a clear picture of the
power she has because of her title. She believes she is the sun, and that all the other celestial bodies are revolving around her. Mr. Collins, Elizabeth's
distant cousin, is an extreme example of such conformity to her rank. Even though, he is belittled by the lady, but he continues to tribute her. What I
have uncovered is that these ranks and titles is the reason why there are injustice structures. It is also the basis of division among classes and
discrimination. In summary, the book showed how important these ranks and society's behavior towards

Dear Society: Unmasking the Narrative and Ideological Elements of Joseph Andrews
After its publication in 1740, Samuel Richardson's Pamela became wildly commercially successful and has been described as one of the earliest
multi–media events, spawning translations, stage adaptations, merchandise, and literary responses (Turner 71). These literary responses largely
imitated Richardson's style, yet challenged the irreproachable virtue of his protagonist. They served to provide an alternate perspective to Pamela's
tale, typically portraying her as a scheming social climber. Henry Fielding participated in this literary backlash, publishing his own parody Shamela in
1741. However, the next year he wrote Joseph Andrews, which, while inarguably ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regardless of the ideological differences, both types of literary responses adopted Richardson's epistolary style, but Henry Fielding's later response
Joseph Andrews employs an omniscient narrator. In contrast to the limited voice of the letter writer, the omniscient point of view allows the reader to
hear many voices. Joseph Andrews' myriad characters expose their true intentions, for with each changing situation, their chosen words benefit
themselves. For example, when the beaten and robbed Joseph is brought to Mr. Tow–wouse's inn, Mrs. Tow–wouse does not wish to give the
"vagabond" charity; the surgeon declares there is no hope of Joseph's living; and the clergyman Barnabas rationalizes he can't save him. However
once Betty reveals the thief stole a gold piece from Joseph, all three characters declare Christian and lawful morals in providing the now "gentleman"
with a warm bed and legal representation. Their change reveals that Mrs. Tow–wouse's true desire is to associate with the higher society, and Barnabus
and the surgeon only want to portray their self–purported skills in court (Fielding 29–39). The omniscient narrator lets the readers in on the characters'
secret: their pretense hides their vanity.
This omniscience extends to the narrator himself as he invites the reader to see his own vanity and hypocrisy. When informing the reader about chapter
decisions, the narrator claims this is to allow the reader to "repose

Native Bundle Of Rights
The 'bundle of rights' metaphor is mentioned regularly in property law cases. It is a useful way to explain property rights in general. However, it
does not prove to be as useful in forming an accurate concept of native title rights. 'Bundle of rights' was a metaphor used by many courts during
native title land claims such as that of Western Australia v Ward (2002) 213 CLR 1. The metaphor is used in a useful way to assist the Crown in using
its power to extinguish native title rights. Although, this does not determine whether this action were done ethically or not. DEFINITIONS: The

The joint judgment of the High Court, in Yanner v Eaton agrees with this. However in Ward 'bundle of rights' is considered useful in two respects, the
first being that under traditional law and customs there may be more than one right or interest and the second one is that there may be several types of
rights and interest. Although the 'bundle of rights' may be considered as a useful tool it can also impoverish native title rights by not having a holistic
view when describing the rights. The bundle of rights metaphor is useful only from the view of the Australian legal system as the system wants to be
able to accommodate "partial extinguishment" of native title this will make more sense in due course. Thus, it was useful in Ward as the metaphor
emphasizes that the Native Title Act provides for the concept of partial extinguishment.

Political and Economic Issues Along the U.S. and Mexico...
Introduction and Statement of Purpose According to Jason Riley (2009) there are an estimated ten to twelve million illegal immigrants living within
the United States (p. 54). According to Cieslik, Felsen, and Kalaitzidis (2009), over half of these illegal immigrants are from Mexico (p. 185). These
population estimates have led the United States to take action along our border. We have built a fence, deployed various surveillance systems, and
currently employ thousands of U.S. Border Protection officers. These actions have made the issue of illegal immigration a highly debated topic within
the United States and Mexico. This debate will be explained from a political, economic, and an integrated perspective.

117). According to an experienced border patrol agent named T.J. Bonner, "Intrusions by the Mexican military to protect drug loads happen all the
time" (as cited in Buchanan, 2006, p.117). It is easy to see how U.S. Border Patrol agents and Mr. Buchanan can support the United States' efforts in
securing the U.S.–Mexico border. Not all of Mr. Buchanan's views are based on histories of violence from Mexican illegal aliens. As recent as the
September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, U.S. citizens have realized we are vulnerable to attacks within the United States. This realization is a valid
concern because terrorists could also gain access through this border. The U.S. Border Patrol has a term called other–than–Mexican (OTM). Buchanan
(2006) stated, "A growing number of OTMs caught at the border now come from the Middle East" (p. 15). It is important to remember that these
Middle Easterners are caught at other points of entry, and not just the U.S.–Mexico border. This does show a significant paranoia that many Americans
have. This paranoia can lead to Americans supporting increased border protection. Governor's Richardson, Napolitano, and Mr. Buchanan all share a
similar point of view regarding more security on our border. Not all Americans share this opinion. Jason Reilly is an editor at the Washington Post. He
supports immigration when it is done legally. Reilly (2009) stated, "We're better off reducing

The Novel ' The Expedition Of Humphry Clinker ' By Tobias...
The epistolary novel, a novel that is written entirely in the form of letters, first gained traction in the early 18th century. Two epistolary novels that
encapsulated this style very well were Dangerous Liaisons and Evelina. The similarities are also not solely in terms of writing style. Both of these
authors use the letters that their characters write as a method of deception to obtain what they truly desire, even if it does not appear as such. Despite
the divide that separates them in genre, both Burney and Laclos exhibited this style very well as the authors used these letters to convey their
characters goals, intentions, and desires to the reader in their works.
We will first examine the novel by Pierre Ambrose Laclos, Dangerous Liaisons. There are a few reasons why Laclos' letters provided a sense of
importance stylistically. Dangerous Liaisons was not a typical work, as it was the first French epistolary novel to use more than one perspective
(Brittanica). As we know The Expedition of Humphry Clinker by Tobias Smollett was published in 1771, had multiple perspectives displayed through
letters, but Smollett was a Scot, and his work was set in both England and Scotland. His work was never able to gain much popularity in France.
French literature in general did not implore this style; they usually followed a more traditionalist model when it came to the novel. He was also the
first French author to employ letters that were not designed solely for reporting events.

How Does Jane Austen Present Relationships In Persuasion
Persuasion is the last novel written by Jane Austen, published in 1817. Like every other piece of work she has created, Persuasion is a romance. While
there are many characters in this novel, the main love affair is between Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth. These two were once in love, but

are what essentially make an Austen novel so spectacular. Anne Elliot is one of three daughter to Sir Walter, and the late Lady Elliot. Although his wife

While Anne has come to terms with what happened, she does not regret so much listening to Lady Russell. Anne explains to Captain Wentworth,
"I have been thinking over the past, and trying to impartially to judge of the right and wrong, I mean with regard to myself; and I must believe that
I was right, much as I suffered from it, that I was perfectly right in being guided by the friend whom you will love better than you do now. To me,
she was in the place of a parent. Do not mistake me, however. I am not saying that she did not err in her advice. It was perhaps one of those cases
in which advice is good or bad only as the event decides; and for myself, I certainly never should, in any circumstance of tolerable similarity, give
such advice" (253). She brings up this idea that Lady Russell was playing the role of a parent when she was giving Anne the advice to not go forward
with her engagement with Captain Wentworth. A parent of a high status would want nothing less than that for their child. Especially for a daughter.
Although Anne was able to look beyond the superficial aspects to Captain Wentworth, the two people whose word means the most, could

Savagery In Lord Of The Flies
Civilizations come in many different forms but even the best of them can descend into savagery. The boys being stranded on an island made
civilization very hard to keep, thus making it not very difficult for them to descend into savagery. The first time the boys started to show signs of
savagery was when Jack and some other boys split off and made a "tribe." They put on face paint and hunted the pigs religiously not caring for their
rescue, as all of them had already assumed they weren't going to get rescued. Killing Simon and Piggy showed the true evilness in humanity when
civilization falls. Jack and his tribe went mad after that going on a rampage and to do whatever pleased them. The tribe did not care for the well
being of other and only focused on themselves. Lord of the Flies by William Golding clearly displays the evil in humanity through the loss of
civilization to the descent into savagery, showing that even the best of people can fade into savagery.
When Jack and some of the boys split off into their own group or "tribe" it really showed the evilness in humanity. Ralph and Piggy in "Lord of the
flies" were the leaders and helped keep civilization intact. Without them they became savages and brought out the evil within themselves, Golding
shows this with the narrator saying, "The world, that understandable and lawful world, was slipping away" (Golding 98) . The tribe was obsessed with
hunting pigs and would even chant "Kill the pig! Cut her throat! Spill

Lord Of The Flies Literary Analysis
Whenever there is a time when it is just kids in a room and no adults, it gets hectic very fast and most of the time turns into utter chaos. What do
you do in a time of chaos? Some people become leaders and others become followers. In the book the Lord of the Flies the kids are faced with
struggling to survive, and what roles they will be playing as they are on the island. The kids desire for popularity and power gets a little out of hand
and the kids feel peer pressure to submit to these power crazed children in order to fit in. Kids struggle with peer pressure and the desire for
popularity already, but when put in an environment when there are no adults the desire for popularity and the act of giving into peer pressure gets out
of hand. A part of this struggle comes from the younger boys who are not confident in their identities that they want to be followers rather than leaders.
Throughout the Lord of the Flies the idea of peer pressure and wanting to achieve popularity become more prevalent as the story goes on.
It all begins in the beginning with Ralph and Piggy, and we see that Ralph makes fun of Piggy to boost his confidence, making himself feel better
about himself. At first Ralph and Piggy were somewhat friends because they were the only two that had met up, but after meeting the rest of the kids
on the island Ralph completely ditches Piggy and starts hanging around Jack, who is a more popular kid. This is the first example we see Ralph
starting to strive for

Female Incarceration In Pride And Prejudice
Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen, was written in perspective of the time era Jane Austen grew up in. At a young age, Austen was subjected to this
very conformed society, where a suited woman was married into a family for money/estates. In an article written about Austen's life, "Jane Austen and
the Province of Womanhood," by Alison Sulloway, a precise background of whyJane Austen wrote pride and prejudice is conveyed, and how it
pertains to her life. In this article, she explains how Austen was fully knowledgeable by her teen years on the value of women and their role in
society. She stated that women referred to their feelings as "female incarceration", as if they felt "imprisoned." Jane Austen also discussed her family
life, and how her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jane Austen, the author of Pride and Prejudice, wrote this piece in satire of her own life in which she grew up in. A society where you were told
who to marry, and you knew you were doing it for the money. This type of conformity is based on marxism, or the analysis of social and class
relations using a materialistic interpretation. Elizabeth Bennet is a main character, a daughter, and a sister in the book whom is trying to find a
husband and a future estate. She breaks the societal norm when she abruptly turns down a proposal from a man of much fortune, Mr. Darcy, by saying,
"From the very beginning, from the first moment I may almost say, of my acquaintance with you, your manners, impressing me with the fullest belief
of your arrogance, your conceit, and your selfish disdain of the feelings of others, were such as to form that ground–work of disapprobation, on which
succeeding events have built so immovable a dislike; and I had not known you a month before I felt that you were the last man in the world whom I
could ever be prevailed on to marry" (Ch. 34). In the article about Jane's life, the author states, "Feminine action is contracted by numberless
difficulties, that there are no impediments of masculine exertion"(pg.2), in other words stating that a woman almost never has a right to disapprove
someone in the way Austen wrote of Elizabeth to Darcy in his proposal. This proves that Austen was mocking the normality, and trying to focus the
reader on feminism (advocacy of women's rights), and the resistance against conformity ("marxism"). Jane Austen also portrays feminism through the
character Lydia Bennet, another daughter/sister in the Bennet family who needs to marry in order to find money and a place to live. During this era,
class was a big affair, in which it was highly scorned upon. In Sulloway's

A Moveable Feast By Ernest Hemingway
While reading A Moveable Feast, I felt immersed into Ernest Hemingway's world and developed a better understanding of him with a human
experience. This novel provides an inside look on both, Hemingway's time in Paris in the 1920s and the time at the end of his life leading up to his
premature death. If one is familiar with his life, and especially his later years, A Moveable Feast gives insight into his life at the time of writing his
memoir. The text itself is about Paris, but the reflection comes from an older Hemingway who was sentimental, longing and nostalgic. Regardless of
the comments from family, friends and academics, interpreting the text itself in A Moveable Feast is the best way to learn about Hemingway and his
mindset during the late 1950s and early 1960s.
Unlike many great books, there are two versions of A Moveable Feast which were released by individuals separated by two generations. First, there is
the 1964 version which offers the completed and unified memoir on Hemingway's early years in Paris. It is important to understand that Hemingway
never completed the memoir and his fourth wife, Mary Hemingway, performed much of the editing and final touches. In contrast, the 2009 version is
believed by most to be more accurate to Hemingway's original manuscripts, but it does not offer a unified story. Even though these versions are very
different from one another they both offer valuable insight on Hemingway as a person.
Since A Moveable Feast was left unfinished,

Theme Of Death In A Clean Well Lighted Place By Ernest...
Ernest Hemingway was one of the most prolific writers of the "Lost Generation," of men who lived through the horrors of World War One. Death
played an important role in shaping both his young and adult life and was a seemingly unavoidable to many of the people closest to him.
Hemingway's life was drastically altered by the outbreak of WWI, which was one of the greatest influences on the works he would later produce.
There, he met his first wife, which marked the beginning of several troubled and unhappy marriages. His father committed suicide around this time, the
first of many suicides of the people nearest to Hemingway which would plague him for the rest of his life. The war remained a driving force in
Hemingway's life long after its finish. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their dispute arise, as the man wishes for the child to be aborted as so that they can be unrestrained and continue to live their lives in the manner that
it was lived, while the woman wishes to keep the child in order to settle down and live a fulfilling life (Holladay [EBSCO]). Much like the previous
short story, "Hills Like White Elephants" tackles the concept of finding fulfillment in the meaningless suffering that is life to Hemingway. The man
wishes to lead a life filled with instant and spontaneous gratitude, that being traveling across the world or drinking, while the woman wishes to things
that are satiating and fulfilling in the long term, like settling down and raising a family. This leads into the existentialism that is so paramount to
Hemingway's worldview. The man, therefore, represents humanity in the modern age as he does not live honestly and seeks only what rewards him
instantly rather than something that benefits him greater in the long term. Rather than focus and work towards something truly beneficial, humanity
fights to be unrestrained and minimally responsible for their actions, choosing to devote themselves to simple pleasures and vices rather than honest
and bountiful rewards. The couple is described to be in a bar located in a rather barren, lifeless area

Analysis Of In Bruges And The Crying Game
In Martin McDonagh's In Bruges and Neil Jordan's The Crying Game, the concept of guilt and flight are explored. The purpose of this essay is to
explore these concepts and the life choices each of the main characters make that ultimately lead to moral dilemmas. This essay will also explore
supplementary themes such as conflict, redemption and forgiveness.
In Bruges follows two Irish hitmen, Ray (Colin Farrell) and Ken Daley (Brendan Gleeson). After a completely botched job they performed in London,
they are ordered by their boss, Harry Waters (Ralph Fiennes) to hide out in Bruges and wait for further instructions. Although Ken is fascinated by the
city's architecture and history, Ray has nothing but disdain for it and wishes to return to London. Could this be his punishment for a job gone awry? MC
Throughout the film In Bruges, we follow Ray and his emotional journey of guilt and conflict. He chooses the career of a professional hitman and as a
result, there should be no emotional attachments associated in that decision. It's simply business. Or is it? His profession eventually leads him to an
unforeseen and unfortunate incident. But is it realistic for Ray to feel remorse? After all, it was his choice to become a hitman to begin with.
While in London, Ray was ordered to kill a priest. For Ray, this never seemed to be an issue and he never really questions the reason why. He
assumes if he was ordered to kill a priest, he must have done something depraved. As a result of carrying out his orders, he accidentally kills a young
boy. MC It is evident that Ray is overwhelmed by his actions and all of this plays out in the film when he flees to Bruges.
As the story progresses, we discover that Ray is more than just a cold hearted hitman. He is a man who is suffering. This is displayed throughout the
film as he exhibits some strange and at times, irrational behavior. He doesn't attempt to justify his actions, instead he plunges into a state of
depression and conflict. "He's dead because of me. And I'm trying to... been trying to get me head around it, but I can't. I will have always have killed
that little boy. That ain't ever going away. Ever. Unless... maybe I go away." MC
Ray is left with a choice. He can continue to

Essay Joseph Andrews
Joseph Andrews In Fielding's Joseph Andrews you see a variety of characters. They range from the shallow, vain and proud characters like Lady
Booby and Mrs. Slipslop to the innocent, sincere, and virtuous like Joseph and Fanny. The presence of Lady Booby, and all of the people like her that
are portrayed in the same selfish and dishonest way, bring out the importance of the clergy. Most of the clergy that we meet in the story don't fit our
vision of "holy people". They didn't fit Fielding's vision either. Parson Adams is the only character that represents what Fielding considers to be the
proper role for the clergy. He believes that the proper role for the clergy is that they should give moral guidance and they should be virtuous and...

Even though it is his job to set a good example and forgive other people for their sins, he is just a drunk who is also in need of being saved and
forgiven. Adams shows up at the inn, greatly concerned for Joseph's health and safety, and such uncharitable people surround him that one cannot
help but notice his sincere and caring nature. Adams gives Joseph the little money that he has, even though it is not enough. He is not aware of the
economics of everyday life, but it his gesture to give his friend all of his money that makes him such a great person. He believes that an honest mind
would rather lose money by conveying good instructions to mankind than gain by propagating evil. It is easy to compare the good and the bad
clergymen in these couple chapters because they are almost standing side by side. It is very clear that Fielding chooses Adams to take on the proper
role as a parson.
Adams and Joseph travel on but stop at another inn for the night. It is in this chapter that we see the first of many fistfights. The hostess cares for
Joseph but her husband scolds her for wasting time. She is very much like Betty back at the other inn. Neither one of them are perfect but they have a
sense of charm that puts them on a higher pedestal than the rich snobby people that reappear later in the story. But the host of the inn begins to fight
after a remark by Adams about the host's very little humanity. The fight is settled and a

What Do You Feel Was The Root Cause Of The Problem / Issue...
1. What do you feel was the root cause of the problem/issue discussed above? Why?
The two problems this hospital is currently facing are dealing with financial issues and their mission statement. As finance can never be the underlying
cause of an issue, only the result of an issue, this problem is cut out of the picture for now. The issue starts with employees misinterpretation of the
mission statement, due to it being unclear. The mission statement was created by top management; therefore, I believe the root of the problem for
Faith's Community Hospital started with top management.
If employees were misinterpreting the mission statement and had to use their own code of ethics and personal beliefs, then the top management did not
do their job of making all employees believe in the same idea. This can be a cultural problem, a miscommunication or not enough training, but
regardless this all comes down to top management. If top management were able to train the employees to ensure each employee represented the same
code of ethics and beliefs, then there would be no problem with the mission statement, which could lead to no financial issues. 2. Was the investigation
of the problem the most appropriate way to do this? Is there some other things that they should have done? If so, how would you do it differently?
Once the hospital noticed they were having problems the CEO, Executive Assistant, Financial Analyst and Operations Director stepped in to do some
investigation.

Women in "Hills like White Elephants" and "The Yellow...
Through history women have fought for equal rights and freedom. This tension is derived from men; society, in general; and within a woman herself.
In the nineteenth century, women in literature were often portrayed as submissive to men. Literature of this period often characterized women as
oppressed by society, as well as by the male influences in their lives. This era is especially interesting because it is a time in modern society when
women were still treated as second–class citizens. Two interesting short stories, "Hills like White Elephants" and "The Yellow Wallpaper" focus on a
woman's plight near the turn of the nineteenth century. Both authors, Hemmingway and Gilman, leave an open end to the stories and allow readers to

Instructed to abandon her intellectual life and avoid stimulating company, she sinks into a still–deeper depression invisible to her husband, which is
also her doctor, who believes he knows what is best for her. Alone in the yellow–wallpapered nursery of a rented house, she descends into madness.
Everyday she keeps looking at the torn yellow wallpaper. While there, she is forbidden to write in her journal, as it indulges her imagination, which is
not in accordance with her husband's wishes. Despite this, the narrator makes entries in the journal whenever she has the opportunity. Through these
entries we learn of her obsession with the wallpaper in her bedroom. She is enthralled with it and studies the paper for hours. She thinks she sees a
woman trapped behind the pattern in the paper. The story reaches its climax when her husband must force his way into the bedroom, only to find that
his wife has pulled the paper off the wall and is crawling around the perimeter of the room.
"Hills Like White Elephants" and "The Yellow Wallpaper" are both about couples dealing with a delicate situation in a time when the power of men
over women is obvious. The characters in both stories show that the man has more control and authority than the woman. "Hills Like White Elephants"
demonstrates this through the use of the setting, time restrictions, and poor communication exhibited by the couple. In "The Yellow

Watergate, the greatest scandal of the 20th century, remains a shrouded mystery. Early on the morning of June 17, 1972, there was a break

several burglars were arrested inside the office of the Democratic National Committee's headquarters in the Watergate Office complex building located
in Washington, D.C. Thus began a series of events that would shake the public's confidence in its most visible symbol of American authority and
prestige: the presidency of Richard Nixon. A seemingly random robbery at a Washington, D.C. building leads to the first presidential resignation in
American history. We will discuss the following events surrounding the Watergate break

the break–in. We will also discuss the events surrounding the discovery of the tapes, the issues involved in trying to get the tapes from President Nixon
and what is the "18 1/2 minutes of silence". Finally, throughout this paper we will also include Archibald Cox the first Watergate special prosecutor.
This was no ordinary robbery that happened on the morning of June 17, 1972. The burglars were connected to President Richard Nixon's reelection
campaign, and the prowlers had been caught while attempting to wiretap phones and steal secret documents. The historians of this decade are not sure
whether or not President Richard Nixon knew about the Watergate espionage operation before it happened. However, History.com states, President

Literary Analysis Of A Tree Grows In Brooklyn
The Everlasting Tree An American classic is a novel that has beautiful language, complex characters that change throughout the novel and is timeless.
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn does just that. Betty Smith, author of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, wrote this novel about a young girl's coming of age
during the early 1900's. Smith wanted to publish a novel that showed the American Dream and the struggles of being poor in America. A Tree Grows in
Brooklyn is considered an American classic because of its connection to the American Dream, how the hardships of being poor prevented attaining that

Analysis Of Canadian Politician Ron Johnson
"Pricing is actually a pretty simple and straight forward thing. Customers will not pay literally a penny more than the true value of the product"
(Johnson, R. n.d.). The introductory citation by Canadian Politician Ron Johnson lays the foundation for this case assignment. A case assignment
composed of proposals to numerous companies pertaining to their pricing strategy. For products created by their individual organizations. Let's kickoff
this case assignment by exploring possible strategies, for a company that recently developed a new 3D television.
3D television:
A company has produced a state–of–the–art 3D television that contains unique features, that is different from other 3D televisions currently in the
market. This company acquired a patent on a new technology that doesn't involve the end user to put on 3D glasses to enjoy the effect and display of
this contemporary television. Due, to the patent and superior technology this company will revel in the advantage it will gain over other companies for
at–least a year or two. So, it would be prudent that this company heeds the following advice, in protecting their interest concerning the pricing strategy
for this advanced 3D television.
"Consider your overall marketing goals, such as penetrating new markets with new products, or maintaining a higher market share with existing
products compared to your closest competitors" (Paley, N. 2006). Since, technology is constantly developing and manufacturers are always

Lord Of The Flies By William Shakespeare
Ralph rolled out onto the beach where the water meets the sand. All he could do was pray to God that something would save him – a ship, a plane, a
helicopter, anything. He looked up and saw nothing but the blue sky. The savages rushed toward Ralph. He did not run or try to fight. He knew
his fate and could only embrace it. He lay on the sand and waited. Jack stood over Ralph with a satisfied grin on his face. He turned and faced his
Hunters. "Everyone! This is what we 've waited for all day. We will all get a chance to pick at him. But the officials go first! Me, then Roger, then
everyone can sort out the order for themselves!" He turned back to Ralph. "Any last words?" Ralph looked up to Jack and motioned for him to
come closer. Jack leaned down only to have Ralph spit in his face. Almost immediately after, Jack thrust his spear into Ralph 's neck. His blood
flowed freely and rapidly. And finally, once he lay in a pool of his own blood, he was no more. Jack and his tribe screamed at the top of their lungs
and rejoiced. They were now the only tribe on the island. Roger walked up to the fresh kill and stuck his spear into Ralph 's forehead. He moved
out of the way and the rest of the tribe rushed toward the dead body. Jack walked away and thought. He had just burned down the entire island, what
is he to do? There were no more pigs or fruit. What would they eat? How would they bathe? Drink? He cast his worries aside. He 'd cross that bridge
when he came to it. He turned

A Few Good Men Chapter 3 Analysis

  • 1. A Few Good Men Chapter 3 Analysis The setting changes while Francie continues to mature into a woman. She becomes 16, and is beginning to lead a life of her own. The family leaves the grieving they had for Johnny behind. Not only does Francie start out with a clean slate, so does the rest of the Nolan family. After the two and ВЅ years of mourning for Johnny, Sergeant Mc Shane asks Katie to marry him. War rages through the country. While he and Katie make arrangements for the fall wedding and gifts of money and whatnot, Francie makes headway in her personal life. In college, a handsome young lad holding the name Ben Blake, seems to fancy Francie as they go on various study dates. He helps her cram for college entrance exams. Though she fails the first time, she later tries again and gets accepted into Michigan University that Ben chose for her to apply. Neeley grows older and Francie can't help but notice he is so alike to Johnny. When the Nolans are finished moving, Francie says goodbye to all the places she once treasured; Carney's where she hauled junk, Cheap Charlie's, where she tried to win prizes but never got any, Mcgaritty's saloon, and the library. Lastly, she sees Florry Wendy in her fire escape, reading and watching the streets ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Lacrosse And The Lacrosse Community It is the first Sunday of September: and for many, it's just a typical Sunday evening, people go about their normal Sunday activities like going to church, watching football, and enjoying time with their family. The first Sunday of September means a new beginning for the coaches and players of Marvin Ridge High School lacrosse. This Sunday is the beginning of their road to a hopefully successful season and the return to Cary, North Carolina to redeem themselves for the past two failed attempts to achieve greatness and hold up the State Championship trophy. Lacrosse isn't just a hobby or a school sport to the players and coaches, it's a passion that drives them to get up every morning and want to be able to make it back to Cary. Coach John Delucia is well known in the lacrosse community for his prestigious achievements from previous teams he has coached and his amazing lacrosse career at Ohio State University. I watched the ball roll into the back of the net; it was 12–12 in overtime against Cardinal Gibbons. This was my last game with my brothers, best friends, and a family I will cherish for the rest of my life. I not only let my teammates down, I let my family down. We lost against Cardinal Gibbons in the 2015 3A State Championship game 13–12 in overtime. When they scored their final goal I immediately dropped to my knees and began to sob, I was not upset that I lost, I was upset that I let my family down and that was the last time I would ever step on the field with ... • 3. What Is A Role Model When you think of a role model, who comes to mind? Many would say an actor, singer, athlete, etc. My role model is my sister, Natasha Hobley. For those who don't know Natasha personally, they probably wouldn't understand why she is a role model to me. However, I find her to be a role model for many reasons. Not only is Natasha strong, fearless, and independent, but she is the most loving person I have ever met. Regardless of the trials that have been thrown at her, she always comes out on top, and stronger than before. Natasha has unfortunately lost loved ones in her life, but still manages to find happiness in the darkest situations. Despite battling mental and emotional battles, my sister continues to find the best in situations, and always uplifts others. Ever since I was a child, I remember looking up to her and always wanting to be just like her. Natasha Hobley is my role model. My sister Natasha is one of the most amazing and loving people I have ever met. Some of my earliest memories are of her taking care of my two other sisters and me. I remember always going places with her and her friends, and her loving bringing me places. There was no greater feeling than getting to go places with my big sister and her friends, that I thought were so cool! In January of 2017, my dad's brother passed away. Our family had never had any huge losses, so it hit all of us pretty hard. Natasha lives in Las Vegas, Nevada, but the majority of our family lives in Salt Lake City, Utah. ... • 4. The Absolute Sweet Life Of Nolan Ryan Skurat The Absolute Sweet Life of Nolan Ryan Skurat. By:Ryan Skurat As a young boy Nolan had always had a passion for sports. He had played just about all the sports you could think besides lacrosse and hockey. Those are some pretty sweet sports though. Nolan was very interested in football at a young age. He had played for mid rivers and played for o 'fallon, these little league teams were pretty good winning the renegade rumble on both teams. After the years had passed he decided after getting a knee injury to take a break and look elsewhere in sports and see what he is good at. In 8th grade Nolan played basketball for a team form st.charles with his buddies Spencer and Alex. The sport actually came natural and they won second place in the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The coaches only gave him a double inning and then it was the next guy in lines turn. Nolan had a friend named jason and they were best buds. They had done everything together. Nolan had never played competitive sports and Jason had introduced him to all of the real competition in basketball and baseball. Nolan was starting out and actually held his own. He had a lot of work to be done which that came with some money involved. He had played for the stallions and prospects. Each team costed a pretty penny and his mom had to fit the bill. Jason 's parents did the same but the difference was about college. Jason wanted to go to play college whereas Nolan didn 't want to make plans that might not be worth his troubles. When they got into their 8th grade year they had been the talk of the town. Before their freshman year had started they had gone to some camps to show off for high school coaches. Nolan and Jason didn 't not let anyone down. Nolan had gone в… and jason had gone 5/5. It was very neat for the kids and they became workout buddies after. Every day they had hung out to do some sort of athletic activity. It was mostly baseball. They had played for hours every day over the summer and when they got tired of that they started playing basketball. They had played on the same team in sports since 8th grade and unfortunately it came to an end their senior year. Nolan had been experiencing some pain in his elbow when he was throwing so he ... • 5. What Does Basketball Mean To You Essay Part of the Team Basketball has been more than just a game in my life, it has always been a big part of my life, but it has been a part differently than what it is to others. I love everything about basketball. I have done everything from keeping the official book for a men's and women's collegiate team to washing a high school team's practice clothes and even making sure everyone has their uniforms and shoes before leaving for an away game. You don't have to be on the court, you don't have to be the one taking the winning shot or calling the play to be part of the team. I want you to think about this instead of feeling sorry for yourself because you didn't make the cut. I hope by the time you finish reading this you will realize ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the first time I began managing, I have never went a school year without helping at least one team. You might think only children at a young age are treated the same as players when it comes to being on a team, but that's not the case. I was treated with the same respect and equality throughout my junior and senior high years. I wanted to show it continues throughout school, so I interviewed many people associated with college athletics and the responses I received along with my personal college experience, prove managers are seen as part of the team in college as well. When I was in high school, I was included in every aspect of team decision making. The players were some of my best friends and they would ask me questions about their game or their stats. The coaches always told the players they were not to question what I said, when it came to game stats. This was important because of a point system our school used. The players lost points for fouls and turnovers and gained points for positive stats or plays. They were not to question what I said in that part of the game. The coaches and players asked my opinion on different things and they always valued what I said. They didn't always go with my view, but it was considered equally with the players' views. I asked athletes, coaches and a manager from the University of Arkansas to tell me how they feel about managers. The first question I asked everyone was, "Do you consider managers ... • 6. Double Standards Of Women In The 18th Century Persuasion is the last complete novel ever written by Jane Austen, it was originally published in 1818. At the initial sight, we feel that this book is a delightful story about Anne Elliot finding love with Captain Frederick Wentworth again. Accompanying her throughout this story is her arrogant father, dear friend Lady Russell, and her sisters. As we continue to read we see Jane Austen indirectly discourages the double standard women experience during this time period. I regard this novel is classical literature, due to the fact that women still face double standard of men today. We see the everyday complications women had in the 18th century through Anne Elliot, a young, intelligent women of the 18th century. Women of Jane Austen's time... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Today this difficulty still exists. Women make up half of the workforce. Studies show that women often go to college longer and graduate with higher degrees than men do. But yet, today women still make less than men. "In 2015, female full–time workers made only 80 cents for every dollar earned by men, a gender wage gap of 20 percent" (Pay Equality and Discrimination www.iwpr.org). Women can do the same jobs as men and still make less. This is consistent in almost every occupation. Double standards against women are still as much of a problem today as it was then. Women today can still relate to the double standards women faced in the 18th century. This would make Persuasion classical literature, literature that has enduring qualities that can still be applied to present times. Women then were thought of as inferior to men, and incapable of the things men were capable of. This still relates to today, women still get paid less and are still thought to be inferior to men. Both then and now women have proven to be just as good as men, so why has nothing changed? Jane Austen tells the story in Anne Elliot's perspective of things to show the double standard women had to face. We watch as Anne Elliot changes Wentworth's views on ... • 7. Grows In Brooklyn "Serene was a word you could put to Brooklyn, New York. He is famious for his three epistolary novels: Pamela: Or, Virtue Rewarded (1740), Clarissa: Or the History of a Young Lady (1748) and The History of Sir Charles Grandison (1753). Richardson's career was unusual for literature. He started to write when he was fifty years old but his creativity was still young. The History of Mrs. Beaumont is Richardson's last novel but it is unfinished. It is the story of a lady‚ whom „his soul loved" and it proves that Richardson's creativity was still working until the day he died. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Driven by clear moralistic intentions, he wrote the epistolary novel Pamela as a realistic sentimental parable based on an exemplary adventure. The initial area of conflict is defined morally, in foreground being the rich seducer whose mother dies, Mr. B. and his maid, Pamela Andrews. Richardson made in this way a sentimental tearful prose. The evolution of the plot is reproduced firstly by long letters of Pamela to her parents and by their responses. Dialog items, indeed reduced, are also introduced in these fictitious letters. The style is constantly punctuated by moralizing judgments and appeals to virtue, strongly standing out the echo of Puritan moral propagated by Richardson. Basic terms of conflict result from the aggressive behavior of the master tempted to seduce the maid and her worthy resistance, although she was in love with him. Sentimental parable has a happy ending. Converted to virtue by the young girl, Mr. B. who repents for his intentions, he proposed her a marriage. The victory of a simple and pure person just emphasizes once again the cautionary lesson from this work. The story is complex: the main heroine is Pamela Andrews, a beautiful 15–years–old who was working as a maidservant in Bedfordshire. She was an innocent, pious and virtuous girl. After the death of Lady B, she remained due to her wish as a servant in the house. Mr. B, the new country landowner master after his mother death, started to make advances towards the young servant. Dear Society: Unmasking the Narrative and Ideological Elements of Joseph Andrews After its publication in 1740, Samuel Richardson's Pamela became wildly commercially successful and has been described as one of the earliest multi–media events, spawning translations, stage adaptations, merchandise, and literary responses (Turner 71). These literary responses largely imitated Richardson's style, yet challenged the irreproachable virtue of his protagonist. They served to provide an alternate perspective to Pamela's tale, typically portraying her as a scheming social climber. Henry Fielding participated in this literary backlash, publishing his own parody Shamela in 1741. However, the next year he wrote Joseph Andrews, which, while inarguably ... Regardless of the ideological differences, both types of literary responses adopted Richardson's epistolary style, but Henry Fielding's later response Joseph Andrews employs an omniscient narrator. In contrast to the limited voice of the letter writer, the omniscient point of view allows the reader to hear many voices. Joseph Andrews' myriad characters expose their true intentions, for with each changing situation, their chosen words benefit themselves. For example, when the beaten and robbed Joseph is brought to Mr. Tow–wouse's inn, Mrs. Tow–wouse does not wish to give the "vagabond" charity; the surgeon declares there is no hope of Joseph's living; and the clergyman Barnabas rationalizes he can't save him. However once Betty reveals the thief stole a gold piece from Joseph, all three characters declare Christian and lawful morals in providing the now "gentleman" with a warm bed and legal representation. Their change reveals that Mrs. Tow–wouse's true desire is to associate with the higher society, and Barnabus and the surgeon only want to portray their self–purported skills in court (Fielding 29–39). The omniscient narrator lets the readers in on the characters' secret: their pretense hides their vanity. This omniscience extends to the narrator himself as he invites the reader to see his own vanity and hypocrisy. However, it does not prove to be as useful in forming an accurate concept of native title rights. The metaphor is used in a useful way to assist the Crown in using its power to extinguish native title rights. Although, this does not determine whether this action were done ethically or not. Although the 'bundle of rights' may be considered as a useful tool it can also impoverish native title rights by not having a holistic view when describing the rights. The bundle of rights metaphor is useful only from the view of the Australian legal system as the system wants to be able to accommodate "partial extinguishment" of native title this will make more sense in due course. It is easy to see how U.S. Border Patrol agents and Mr. Buchanan can support the United States' efforts in securing the U.S.–Mexico border. Not all of Mr. Buchanan's views are based on histories of violence from Mexican illegal aliens. As recent as the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, U.S. citizens have realized we are vulnerable to attacks within the United States. This realization is a valid concern because terrorists could also gain access through this border. The U.S. Border Patrol has a term called other–than–Mexican (OTM). • 18. The Novel ' The Expedition Of Humphry Clinker ' By Tobias... The epistolary novel, a novel that is written entirely in the form of letters, first gained traction in the early 18th century. Two epistolary novels that encapsulated this style very well were Dangerous Liaisons and Evelina. The similarities are also not solely in terms of writing style. Both of these authors use the letters that their characters write as a method of deception to obtain what they truly desire, even if it does not appear as such. Despite the divide that separates them in genre, both Burney and Laclos exhibited this style very well as the authors used these letters to convey their characters goals, intentions, and desires to the reader in their works. We will first examine the novel by Pierre Ambrose Laclos, Dangerous Liaisons. There are a few reasons why Laclos' letters provided a sense of importance stylistically. Dangerous Liaisons was not a typical work, as it was the first French epistolary novel to use more than one perspective (Brittanica). As we know The Expedition of Humphry Clinker by Tobias Smollett was published in 1771, had multiple perspectives displayed through letters, but Smollett was a Scot, and his work was set in both England and Scotland. His work was never able to gain much popularity in France. French literature in general did not implore this style; they usually followed a more traditionalist model when it came to the novel. What do you do in a time of chaos? Some people become leaders and others become followers. In the book the Lord of the Flies the kids are faced with struggling to survive, and what roles they will be playing as they are on the island. The kids desire for popularity and power gets a little out of hand and the kids feel peer pressure to submit to these power crazed children in order to fit in. Kids struggle with peer pressure and the desire for popularity already, but when put in an environment when there are no adults the desire for popularity and the act of giving into peer pressure gets out of hand. A part of this struggle comes from the younger boys who are not confident in their identities that they want to be followers rather than leaders. Throughout the Lord of the Flies the idea of peer pressure and wanting to achieve popularity become more prevalent as the story goes on. A society where you were told who to marry, and you knew you were doing it for the money. This type of conformity is based on marxism, or the analysis of social and class relations using a materialistic interpretation. Elizabeth Bennet is a main character, a daughter, and a sister in the book whom is trying to find a husband and a future estate. She breaks the societal norm when she abruptly turns down a proposal from a man of much fortune, Mr. Darcy, by saying, "From the very beginning, from the first moment I may almost say, of my acquaintance with you, your manners, impressing me with the fullest belief of your arrogance, your conceit, and your selfish disdain of the feelings of others, were such as to form that ground–work of disapprobation, on which succeeding events have built so immovable a dislike; and I had not known you a month before I felt that you were the last man in the world whom I could ever be prevailed on to marry" (Ch. 34). This novel provides an inside look on both, Hemingway's time in Paris in the 1920s and the time at the end of his life leading up to his premature death. If one is familiar with his life, and especially his later years, A Moveable Feast gives insight into his life at the time of writing his memoir. The text itself is about Paris, but the reflection comes from an older Hemingway who was sentimental, longing and nostalgic. Regardless of the comments from family, friends and academics, interpreting the text itself in A Moveable Feast is the best way to learn about Hemingway and his mindset during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Unlike many great books, there are two versions of A Moveable Feast which were released by individuals separated by two generations. First, there is the 1964 version which offers the completed and unified memoir on Hemingway's early years in Paris. It is important to understand that Hemingway never completed the memoir and his fourth wife, Mary Hemingway, performed much of the editing and final touches. In contrast, the 2009 version is believed by most to be more accurate to Hemingway's original manuscripts, but it does not offer a unified story. The purpose of this essay is to explore these concepts and the life choices each of the main characters make that ultimately lead to moral dilemmas. This essay will also explore supplementary themes such as conflict, redemption and forgiveness. In Bruges follows two Irish hitmen, Ray (Colin Farrell) and Ken Daley (Brendan Gleeson). After a completely botched job they performed in London, they are ordered by their boss, Harry Waters (Ralph Fiennes) to hide out in Bruges and wait for further instructions. Although Ken is fascinated by the city's architecture and history, Ray has nothing but disdain for it and wishes to return to London. Could this be his punishment for a job gone awry? MC Throughout the film In Bruges, we follow Ray and his emotional journey of guilt and conflict. He chooses the career of a professional hitman and as a result, there should be no emotional attachments associated in that decision. It's simply business. Or is it? His profession eventually leads him to an unforeseen and unfortunate incident. But is it realistic for Ray to feel remorse? After all, it was his choice to become a hitman to begin with. While in London, Ray was ordered to kill a priest. For Ray, this never seemed to be an issue and he never really questions the reason why. He assumes if he was ordered to kill a priest, he must have done something depraved. As a result of carrying out his orders, he accidentally kills a young boy. MC It is evident that Ray is overwhelmed by his actions and all of this plays out in the film when he flees to Bruges. As the story progresses, we discover that Ray is more than just a cold hearted hitman. He is a man who is suffering. This is displayed throughout the film as he exhibits some strange and at times, irrational behavior. He doesn't attempt to justify his actions, instead he plunges into a state of depression and conflict. "He's dead because of me. And I'm trying to... been trying to get me head around it, but I can't. I will have always have killed that little boy. That ain't ever going away. Ever. Unless... maybe I go away." MC Ray is left with a choice. He can continue to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Essay Joseph Andrews Joseph Andrews In Fielding's Joseph Andrews you see a variety of characters. They range from the shallow, vain and proud characters like Lady Booby and Mrs. Slipslop to the innocent, sincere, and virtuous like Joseph and Fanny. The presence of Lady Booby, and all of the people like her that are portrayed in the same selfish and dishonest way, bring out the importance of the clergy. Most of the clergy that we meet in the story don't fit our vision of "holy people". They didn't fit Fielding's vision either. Parson Adams is the only character that represents what Fielding considers to be the proper role for the clergy. He believes that the proper role for the clergy is that they should give moral guidance and they should be virtuous and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though it is his job to set a good example and forgive other people for their sins, he is just a drunk who is also in need of being saved and forgiven. Adams shows up at the inn, greatly concerned for Joseph's health and safety, and such uncharitable people surround him that one cannot help but notice his sincere and caring nature. Adams gives Joseph the little money that he has, even though it is not enough. He is not aware of the economics of everyday life, but it his gesture to give his friend all of his money that makes him such a great person. He believes that an honest mind would rather lose money by conveying good instructions to mankind than gain by propagating evil. It is easy to compare the good and the bad clergymen in these couple chapters because they are almost standing side by side. It is very clear that Fielding chooses Adams to take on the proper role as a parson. Adams and Joseph travel on but stop at another inn for the night. It is in this chapter that we see the first of many fistfights. The hostess cares for Joseph but her husband scolds her for wasting time. She is very much like Betty back at the other inn. Neither one of them are perfect but they have a sense of charm that puts them on a higher pedestal than the rich snobby people that reappear later in the story. But the host of the inn begins to fight after a remark by Adams about the host's very little humanity. The fight is settled and a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. What Do You Feel Was The Root Cause Of The Problem / Issue... 1. What do you feel was the root cause of the problem/issue discussed above? Why? The two problems this hospital is currently facing are dealing with financial issues and their mission statement. As finance can never be the underlying cause of an issue, only the result of an issue, this problem is cut out of the picture for now. The issue starts with employees misinterpretation of the mission statement, due to it being unclear. The mission statement was created by top management; therefore, I believe the root of the problem for Faith's Community Hospital started with top management. If employees were misinterpreting the mission statement and had to use their own code of ethics and personal beliefs, then the top management did not do their job of making all employees believe in the same idea. This can be a cultural problem, a miscommunication or not enough training, but regardless this all comes down to top management. If top management were able to train the employees to ensure each employee represented the same code of ethics and beliefs, then there would be no problem with the mission statement, which could lead to no financial issues. 2. Was the investigation of the problem the most appropriate way to do this? Is there some other things that they should have done? If so, how would you do it differently? Once the hospital noticed they were having problems the CEO, Executive Assistant, Financial Analyst and Operations Director stepped in to do some investigation. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Women in "Hills like White Elephants" and "The Yellow... Through history women have fought for equal rights and freedom. This tension is derived from men; society, in general; and within a woman herself. In the nineteenth century, women in literature were often portrayed as submissive to men. Literature of this period often characterized women as oppressed by society, as well as by the male influences in their lives. This era is especially interesting because it is a time in modern society when women were still treated as second–class citizens. Two interesting short stories, "Hills like White Elephants" and "The Yellow Wallpaper" focus on a woman's plight near the turn of the nineteenth century. Both authors, Hemmingway and Gilman, leave an open end to the stories and allow readers to create ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While there, she is forbidden to write in her journal, as it indulges her imagination, which is not in accordance with her husband's wishes. Despite this, the narrator makes entries in the journal whenever she has the opportunity. Through these entries we learn of her obsession with the wallpaper in her bedroom. She is enthralled with it and studies the paper for hours. She thinks she sees a woman trapped behind the pattern in the paper. The story reaches its climax when her husband must force his way into the bedroom, only to find that his wife has pulled the paper off the wall and is crawling around the perimeter of the room. "Hills Like White Elephants" and "The Yellow Wallpaper" are both about couples dealing with a delicate situation in a time when the power of men over women is obvious. The characters in both stories show that the man has more control and authority than the woman. "Hills Like White Elephants" demonstrates this through the use of the setting, time restrictions, and poor communication exhibited by the couple. In "The Yellow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Early on the morning of June 17, 1972, there was a break –in and several burglars were arrested inside the office of the Democratic National Committee's headquarters in the Watergate Office complex building located in Washington, D.C. Thus began a series of events that would shake the public's confidence in its most visible symbol of American authority and prestige: the presidency of Richard Nixon. A seemingly random robbery at a Washington, D.C. building leads to the first presidential resignation in American history. We will discuss the following events surrounding the Watergate break –in: when did the break–in occur, how was Nixon connected to the break–in. We will also discuss the events surrounding the discovery of the tapes, the issues involved in trying to get the tapes from President Nixon and what is the "18 1/2 minutes of silence". Finally, throughout this paper we will also include Archibald Cox the first Watergate special prosecutor. This was no ordinary robbery that happened on the morning of June 17, 1972. The burglars were connected to President Richard Nixon's reelection campaign, and the prowlers had been caught while attempting to wiretap phones and steal secret documents. The historians of this decade are not sure whether or not President Richard Nixon knew about the Watergate espionage operation before it happened.
