A Net Zero Energy Building (NZEB) produces as much energy as it uses over the course of a year; legislation and technology are combining to create a future where buildings actually contribute energy to the grid.
SE's sustainability report shows an overall score of 3.94/10, in line with the three-year objective (8/10 by end 2014). The Planet & Society Barometer helps in driving and measuring SE’s sustainable development commitment
Reduce Building Energy Use Through Occupant EngagementPulse Energy
How well do your occupants work with you to reduce energy consumption? According to the EPA and the Center for the Built Environment at UC Berkeley, promoting energy awareness among building occupants can provide energy savings of 5-15% for a negligible upfront cost.
This presentation includes:
• An overview of approaches to enabling occupancy engagement on energy conservation in commercial and institutional buildings
• The role energy information systems can play to support your employee engagement
• Helpful tips and practical suggestions for supporting your employees in changing their energy consumption

The Value of Green Labels in the California Housing Marketnilskok
The residential sector accounts for 33 percent of electricity consumption in the U.S., with a total expenditure of $166 billion in 2010. Increasing the energy efficiency of the durable housing stock can thus provide significant cost savings for consumers. One promising trend is the rise of homes labeled by a third party as “green” or energy efficient. The modeled energy consumption of such homes is substantially lower as compared to conventional homes of the same vintage. This paper provides the first systematic evidence on the effects of providing information about the energy efficiency and “sustainability” of structures in affecting consumer choice. We conduct a hedonic pricing analysis of all single-family home sales in California over the time period 2007 to 2012, documenting that homes labeled with Energy Star, LEED or Greenpoint Rated, transact for a premium of nine percent relative to otherwise comparable, non-labeled homes. Given the large size of this effect, we explore its robustness and examine a number of different hypotheses, focusing on recovering heterogeneous effects. The results show that both environmental ideology and local climatic conditions play a role in explaining the variation in the green premium across geographies.

Role of Building Automation in nearly zero-energy buildingsLeonardo ENERGY
Building automation (BA) has a key role to play in the implementation of nearly zero-energy build-ings (nZEB). Building automation is the connector of all the single requirements for nZEB, such as a well-insulated and airtight building shell, efficient HVAC system and a high share of renew-able energy. That is one of the main conclusions of a study prepared by Ecofys for the Leonardo ENERGY initiative.
This presentation shortly introduces the functions and potentials Building Automation will have in the transition towards a nearly zero-energy building (nZEB) stock. It also touches on the pathways and actions different stakeholders should take to ensure that the indicated potentials are achieved.

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
