This document analyzes and summarizes scenes from the film "The Woman in Black" to understand how it creates an atmosphere of fear and suspense. Key techniques include the use of white to represent innocence that is corrupted by evil, creepy music to signal danger, and shocked or soulless expressions on the girls' faces to indicate possession by a paranormal force. These scenes inspired the creator to use similar techniques in their own opening sequence, such as having the protagonist appear soulless to hint at a hidden agenda. Analyzing how the film establishes its antagonistic force and foreshadows death and killing helped the creator understand how to effectively set up terror in their own film.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2. This scene is mainly white.
The doll, the little girl's
dress, the teacup, is all
white. White symbolizes
purity, white also has a
darker meaning. White is
the presence of all
colors The angry red,
fearful yellow, envious
green, sad purple are all
hidden in the bright
pearly white smile of
white This could be the
alternative meaning as
the women In black is
about to mind control the
pure little girls. Therefore
the white may be a
contrast to the evil things
that are about to happen
to them.
The little girl is playing with a old doll and a teacup.
In this scene the music is very creepy and eerie. The
teacup gives the idea that the film was set in England
as tea is a stereotypical item that is associated with
British people. The old doll and teacup gives the
audience an idea of the era the film would have
been set in.
This is an inspiration for my
opening sequence, as my
protagonist is dressed in a
white shirt symbolizing her
innocence. Furthermore,
the white t-shirt my
protagonist wears hides
her hidden agenda of
revenge on her boyfriend,
as in the opening she plays
the innocent victim.
3. In this scene the music starts to get louder
emphasizing that this particular scene has
an important factor. The music is an
indicator for the audience that something
bad may be about to occur and they should
be ready for it. The loud music connotes
terror and panic that may be about to
occur.
This is an inspiration for my film as my
protagonist at the end of my opening
sequence opens her eyes and the music
gets faster and stops when her eyes are
open. This shows the audience that there
would be important events occurring in the
rest of my film just like the Woman in Black.
Also, the girls all turn their heads at the
same time, my group and I have used a
similar idea by making our protagonist open
her eyes suddenly which creates the same
shiver making feeling.
This is a shot of 3 girls sitting on the floor
looking the same direction, they have all
stopped playing with their toys and look like
their in shock connoting that they have all
witnessed something un-usual. This makes
the audience think that there is a character
behind the camera that has shocked the
girlsand will later be introduced in the film
Furthermore, the shock on the three
innocent girls faces show that whomever is
behind the camera would be associated
with paranormal activities as the girls slowly
turn their heads in the same direction at
the same time giving the audience shivers
making them feel as though something
scary is about to join the film.
4. A combination of red and white, pink contains the need for action
of red. This means that evil has entered the scene and is taking
advantage of the purity of the innocent girls, and controlling
them. Pink connotes kindness and sensitivity, showing that this
innocent girl is being controlled by a evil character because she is
young and sensitive.
White is associated with innocence, purity and safety. This
contrasts with the demon that got into these innocent girls heads.
There is a gormless expression on the three girls faces, which
shows that the life has been sucked out of them, and their
possessed.
I used this in my opening
sequence. At the end of our
opening sequence when my
protagonist wakes up she has a
whiteness in her face, as though
she is full of evil thoughts.
5. On this scene the girls step and crush their beloved toys, which
connotes that there is paranormal activity. This is because, the
girls were happily playing with these toys, but seconds later they
were overcome by an evil force making them break their toys.
The toy on the floor can also be seen as the vunrable souls of the
girls being crushed and sucked by the evil demons.
The shoe of the girl in this
image is black. Black
connotes death, evil and
power, the doll that is
being crushed is white,
which connotes purity. This
shows that this blackness
is overtaking the purity.
6. In this scene the girls jump out the window, this is not an act that
children would do, which further highlights that they are
possessed by an evil spirit. This gives the audience the idea of
the narrative; the idea that the ghost will be the antagonist
throughout the film. Furthermore, from the act of the girls
jumping out the window, the audience are given the idea that
people would be killed throughout the film by this evil spirit.
The music is cut off once
someone screams 'My
babies'. This further
highlights the idea of
possession, and highlights
the narrative of the film.
7. This scene is rather dull, and dreamy, there is
a woman at the very right of the screen, who
is dressed in all black. The women looks like
she is in a funeral outfit, this links to the girls
dying, maybe this women hiding at the right
corner is the reason they died. Also maybe
the room looks dreamy and dull, because the
camera is showing inside of the evil mind.
This does not only connote the idea of death
and morality to the audience however, it also
shows the audience that this person on the
right hiding is the antagonist within the film.
She matches the name of the film 'The
Woman in Black'
8. This is a close up shot, so it
is clearly trying to show the
audience detail. The doll
gives a tone of fear
In horror movies dolls are
used as objects which
spirits or ghosts use to
scare people. They are
scarier than knives or guns.
The doll juxtaposition between the
mundane and the terrifying that causes a
cognitive dissonance, leading to an
underlying feeling of unease.
The dolls face is pale, white
represents innocence and
perfection. The doll having
this feature shows that it is
vulnerable to evil spirit.
The dolls eyes are not even
showing that the doll might
be possesed.
9. This shot is dark, and
contains dark shadows.
Shadows are a
representation of
something dark (as used in
foreshadowing),
foreboding, or evil.
Shadows can show an issue
that follows a character
until it is dealt with. This
creates an eerie feeling,
and also a
mysterious scene.
The young man is looking
into the dark mirror this
may show his weaknesses,
faults, and hidden secrets
of the rest of the film. Half
of the man's reflection is
black and half is visible,
this may suggest
something evil is
shadowing him.
10. The fog in this scene may
symbolize the hidden
secrets within the film,
putting the audience at
unease. I used this idea in
my film, the flashback
scenes in my film portrays
the secrets.
In this sho9t everyone is
wearing black but the little
boy and the women. This
shows that there would be
vulnerable people in the
film, the pureness of the
child may be used by an
evil spirit. There may be an
evil character behind the
hidden secrets (the fog).
The title of the film 'The
women In Black' has the
word black in it, which
connotes evilness and
darkness, which contrasts
to the little child in white.
This contrasts can raise
questions on whether
something evil is going to
happen to the pureness of
the child.
