Existing Product (Black hole)
This is a film called the black hole . Is about a man who finds a
mysterious hole, that can go through any object. He puts it
through a vending machine, then a money safe. The hole falls off
and traps the man inside of the safe. The location of the film is
set in an empty office. The image is showing a long shot of the
man in the office. It’s a diagonal shot, to show more
surroundings and isolation that the man is in. the image seems to
be very dark and blue with tints of green. This effect makes it
look dark and gives the assumption that its late at night, as no
light is reveled. The lighting is dark and a bit tinted. The darkness
represents isolation of the man, as nobody seems to present in
the office. It also represents a mysterious and negative vibe,
which fits in well with the short film, as the mysterious vibe is
brought with the black hole and the negative vibe is brought
through the mans greedy intentions. The costume of the
character is pretty plain. He is wearing a white shirt and tie and
black trousers. This clothing style is quite formal, showing that he
is in an office environment. His top button is un-done, showing
that he is exhausted. The dark colour theme and clothing fit
together, to show he is working late a night. The most important
props used in this film would include the paper with the black
hole in it, the vending machine, the printer, the safe and the cup.
With the audience appeal the way the short film targets its
audience is with the unexpected black hole that appears at the
beginning, giving the film a change of theme, and makes it more
interesting.

The magic black hole makes the audience wonder what this person is going to do with it. The fact that no
music is played in the film, makes the audience more intrigued to the person and plot, as the music would
distract them, or give away what will happen, based on the tune of it. The unexpected ending shows the
audience a message of what power can do to you. The reason I've chosen to look at this short film is because
of the similar plot of someone ending up being in a situation that wasn’t meant to be. In this case, it was the
mans greed and being trapped in a safe. This relates to mine with someone who had a misunderstanding
and practically nearly killed someone. In this short film I've learnt about how the two separate mise en
scenes can both link together. For example I said how the unbuttoned shirt and dark colors ink to show how
this person has worked all day.

Existing Product (Dumb and dumber)
For this, I am going to talk about the chili pepper scene of the film. The
location of the image is inside of a restaurant. Its quite public, with people
behind. The angle is a short shot front/diagonal view of the character, to have
a closer look at his facial reaction to the chili, as the face reveals sweat, and a
shock reaction. In the film, I like the way the camera has an extreme close up
of the mans reaction to the chili, to see his eyes water up, and his face go red.
The extreme close up basically adds more focus on the side effect that the
chili has had on the guy, but builds up what leads on from the look the guy
has. The effect the image has would be a shadow added on the sides. It
makes the room they're in look dark, but also woks well with the situation, as
the dark lighting is quite a negative mood which the situation in the film is a
suffering and death scene, so the dark shadow reflects on the later death in
the room. For costume, harry and Lloyd are just wearing gray sweatshirts and
the bad guy is just wearing an unbuttoned white shirt. I believe the
unbuttoned shirt reflects on how hot he food is, and works well with the hot
situation he is in. The main props involved in this scene would be the chili,
and the poison. The poison is in a black capsule, which is the colour that
represents death. The chili's are all kept in a jar. The way they are shown to
be deadly is from the beginning and overreaction that harry and Lloyd had to
them. The location is set in a Mississippi, chili based restaurant, as it’s a part
of there road trip from new England to aspen. The chili based restaurant is
what makes the situation look even more deadly, as its the chili that started
the issue. The colours in the scene are dark themed and red. The red is to
stick with the theme of chilies, but to also reflect danger that the chili cause.
In this case, the man is in danger of chocking.

The dark colours fit in with the deadly situation, of the man accidentally being poisoned, as the dark makes
he scene more serious and more messed up for Lloyd and harry to be laughing. Personally, I have bought this
film in the past on DVD. For the audience appeal, the way that the film persuades people to buy it, from how
hilarious the film can make a dark storyline. People would buy this film from how it goes strait to the point,
as harry and Lloyd would end up getting into misleading situations, or accidentally killing someone. In terms
of this one scene the audience would like it from the way the story goes strait to the point, and the way the
camera angles to the important parts of the scene to show you what the issue is. The reason I chose to
evaluate this is from the story and the camera effects. I like the way it would zoom into the most important
items, for example, when we see the man gasp, it would zoom into the poison he has just been fed. This
zooming adds the focus on what's caused his death, and to make the audience realize what's he has bee fed,
to give a comedic effect. From this, I would potentially like to include a zoom effect onto main focuses in my
film, for example, the window scene, where it may potentially zoom into the window, and show someone
shoot across, to build up the tension.

Existing Product jaws
This is for the film jaws the image is a point of view of the shark jaws. The
location is under the sea/ on a beach. The angle of the camera is faced upwards,
to show what the shark is looking at. There is a use of blood when you see the
boy being swept away by the shark. The blood looks really sharp, as the scene
lacks its colour, in order to make it stand out and noticeable in the scene. I the
beach scene is all bright and happy, as it’s a sunny day, then it cuts to the water,
where its dark and gloomy. The dark and gloomy look to the water makes it look
more worrying, as excuses the fact that it’s a sunny and bright day, making you
wonder what this is a point of view of and what its going to do when its reached
the person. With the mise en scene, they lack the colour red, to make way for the
disaster part of the film. This colour releases tragedy into the bright and sunny
day the beach has. The blood also is there to show how vicious and ruthless the
shark is. The costume in which Brody is wearing is a blue t-shirt, crème shorts and
glasses. He is wearing a lot of clothing for a beach, making him look like he isn't
there for a good time, but to keep an eye out. The majority of the people in this
scene are all wearing swimwear, to show they are there for a good time. For
props, there isn't much used in this. But the Most important one would be the
floaty that the boy was on. It gets pushed back onto the land, as irony after his
mom asks where he is. It represents what was left of the boy, and its bloody look
reminds us what happened to him. The location is set on a hot beach in new
England. The colour red is rarely used until the shark attack scene. When its used,
it really changes the mood of the situation. In the water, they make it dark blue.
Dark isn't a very positive or happy color, as it shows the bad in the sea. For the
audience, I believe they watch this for the scare factor.

This film did manage to scare people into going in water. The shock of how fearful the shark, makes the film
more intriguing, making the audience want to watch on. Lastly, the camera techniques used in the film, for
example the POV, make the film nerve racking, as you don’t know here its going to go. I chose to evaluate
this film, based of the point of view shots that it does on the shark and the dolly zoom. I want to potentially
add a POV on my film, and a dolly zoom. The thing that I've learn from this is how I should make my POV
look, from the current mood of the films situation.

Existing product SNL- papyrus
This is from a comedy sketch from Saturday night live. The image is
located outside, but the whole sketch varies from a house, to a
garage, and outside. The angle is diagonally faced towards Ryan
Goslings face. But as a whole, it tends to have a diagonal view shot
when filming. I believe that this angle is mainly used in the film, as it
allows the camera to show the other character’s presents whilst the
other is talking. It l so allows to show a wider shot of the characters
presents, and to show his whole head when they would talk about
something, it would fade in on the screen of what they did or the
things they are talking to them. This is so that the audience can
realize what they are talking about, so they aren't oblivious to the
joke. It also makes the sketch more funny, as it is showing what
Ryan is talking about literally. As without the example, it just sounds
like a complaint or exaggeration. The lighting is quite dark in the
sketch. It reflects on the mood for the sketch, as it represents the
anger from Ryan, as he isn't happy about avatars font. For mise en
scene, Ryan is wearing black, to represent the mystery idea he has
of the font used on Avatar, and his angry and sad mood. There also
has a scene where Ryan hits a fire hydrant, leaving it to spit out
water, this makes it look like rain. The water only hits Ryan. This
represents how upset Ryan is compared to everyone else about the
font. For costume, Ryan seems to wear dark clothing compared to
everyone else, to represent this dark path he is going down with the
papyrus. He is dressed in casual shirts and cardigans, to make him
look like an ordinary person. For props, there doesn’t seem to be
many. The most important one would be the avatar poster.

They use this as to show how basic it now looks, after what Ryan has been ranting about. Ryan smashes
the glass too, to get across how angry he is. The colors are very bland and plain. It firstly foreshadows what
the avatar font is, and it works well with the depressing and angry mood that Ryan is in. for the audience
appeal, it makes someone want to watch the sketch. the first reason would be the plot that it parodies off.
Its something the audience would relate to, as thy would finally laugh and realise how unoriginal the logo
for avatar is. They may also like how over dramatised the sketch is, as they show examples of the font, and
how it was created. The over dramatic effect draws attention, as its funny, and works well, as it’s a small
and pointless complaint being expanded to make a large message of how plain the avatar logo is. The
reason I've looked at this sketch over a short film, is because I like the camera work used in it, and the
comedic sketch. I like the way it will pan towards the main character, as it is basically is like its pointing out
who is distressed. I also like the diagonal shots it does, to revile where he is, the destruction of the shot
and a better view of who he Is communicating with. From this, I would like to take onboard the panning
effect in my film, to follow the movement of my character, like the audience is forced following him so they
don’t miss out on what he does. I would also potentially take onboard the colour scheme used in this
sketch. My short film doesn’t need too much colour in it, as it has a tense and dark feel too it. If colour is
added to it, it will remove the dark feel, as bright colours make scenes more calmer.

Existing Product- the hitThis is a short film called the hit. The location is in a public
park on some benches. It’s a good area, as it works well with
the characters trying to blend in in public areas, as they are
undercover. The lighting is quite bright in this film, to make it
look like a normal day, and to make the next situation look
more unusual with the bright and optimistic light. In this
image, the angle s facing diagonally to the actors face. In the
scene it pans to his face, so that we can see the character
behind him. The diagonal angle loud the shot to show a face
view of the man whilst the camera is moving. The effects used
in the film, would be a shooting effect from when the
character pulls out a gun. They use a bullet effect and a shot
effect. Its to show what caused the character to go partially
deaf. For mise en scene, the hit man is wearing black, to
represent the serious and strong person he is. The one with
the glasses is wearing a hoodie and covered himself up, to
make him look mysterious and anonymous and hidden from
potential enemies. For costume, the hit man is wearing a black
leather jacket, to make him look like someone dangerous, as
he lacks colour. The guy with the glasses wears a hoodie with
up and a hat, and sunglasses. This is to make him look hidden
against the enemy. The guy who gets shot, wears a standard
shirt. It makes it seem unexpected that he would be the
target. The main props involved would be the gun and the
phone.

The gun is used to shoot the target, and the phone is used to report that the job is done. The gun is a
weapon that goes strait to the action, and caused the guy to go deaf. The colours used in this film would be a
red tint to the camera, the colour red, adds a dangerous vibe to the short film. The background is green, as
its set in a field. I believe this colour makes the film have a more light heart feel to it, as it’s a comedy. For
the audience appeal, the way that this makes them want to watch it, is from the comedy and action mixed
together, to make this. They may also like the unexpected ending of the guy with the glasses to have his
hearing damage, and how he handles it. The reason I chose this is because of the fact that its mixed two
genres together like mine. I wanted to see how another short film has managed to mix a serious genre and a
joke genre together, from this, I've learnt about how wear the right colours to fit with the theme of my film.

Home Alone posterThis is a minimalist poster for the film home alone. It’s a simple based poster
that has a popular reference from the film as the main image. Its an animated
image with a black background. The Paint cans are placed centre next to each
other, in order to make it the main attention of the image, because if it were
left on the side, it wouldn’t have looked as important. The colours are very
simple, as its mainly black and white. The orange drips from the can is what
catches the attention to the audience, as it’s the only bright colour available in
the image. This puts a pin to the cans to say look at this; its important to the
film as it makes it stand out in the poster. The cans are placed close together
like two eyes. The way its placed is so the audience can look at both of them
together, to know that this appears twice in the film. There only seems to be
one simple bit of text with a bold font saying the films title. It cant be too flashy
with the full logo, as it will take away the main attention from the cans. The
cans are the first thing you look at, then you move onto the name of the film.
That’s why they are placed so far apart from each other. The way it makes the
audience want to watch the film is because they want to understand the
reference.. They will want to be inside of this inside joke that the poster is
saying. They see that something so simple is the main focus of a poster; they
want to know how important and purposeful is this to the film. I've chosen to
look at this is because I was quite good at making minimalist posters in
photography and I may consider doing it for my main project to reference a flat
image to my film. I've learnt that you need to keep the logo quite small when it
comes to these types of posters and far apart. This is so you can see the image
first to wonder where its from, to read the name of the film so the audience
knows what its based on.

Research Analysis
The films have certain elements in common with all the films having a similar story construction. They all
have an element of something wrong happening, where if its someone getting trapped, a killer shark
attacking, or someone getting poisoned and deafened. Even for the SNL sketch, as it builds up to Ryan
tying to prove a point on how plain the logo looks, to the fall down being nobody understanding. Also, the
theme of the films. They all include a tense and dark feel and theme about them all. This is included for
the comedy films too, as they involve deep storylines. They would create this dark feel, based by either
lighting, from having a dark tone and the mise en scene, as they would wear dark clothing, or very plain
looking clothing. Lastly, they all end with someone being in a bad situation (a downfall). SNL being Ryan
not being able to communicate about how plain the logo is, and the other films have someone either
dieing, getting stuck or being hurt.
For what I will take on from my research, would be the point of view from the film jaws, and how to
correctly light up the scene to fit with the mood. The mood goes especially for the rest of the scenes, and
will have dark lighting for the tense scenes, and light scenes when it goes back to normal. The darkness
does represent pessimistic themes, as it’s a serious looking colour. Also, I would like to take on board the
zoom effects used in dumb and dumber. These effects will add focus on the main object of the film, from
the long shot it was before. It will show what the issue is. I would also like to include the pan effect from
The SNL papyrus sketch. I may use it to follow the character running and walking towards the house to
make it like the audience is following the characters every move. I will also take onboard for the poster. I
will consider a minimalist, seen as it is an easy poster to create which shows so much meaning in it. A
normal poster may be harder, as I need to get the framing perfect, and I need the theme of it to match the
font. With minimalist, I just need to create many shapes and put them together to represent something
iconic from a film.

What I’ve learnt from this
From doing the research, the one thing that I've learnt from this would be how to use colour to effect the
mood of a film. I can see from the variety of films I've looked at they all have their own intention with the
colour scenes. Films like jaws lack colours to define the colour red and seem more uncomfortable to look at.
A green tint is added into shots in films to make the assuming dark humour more light heartened seen as it’s
a comedy. This has influenced me to use the drab colours as I now understand the impact that it will create
to the mood of the film, as it will create this dark environment to make the setting fit with the dark mood.
Another thing that I've learnt from the research would be the appeal to the audience. Each film have a way
of persuading their audience to come and watch their product. Dumb and dumber like to build up the joke
quickly and go strait to the point, to move on to the next issues. These little moments allow the film to have
different story's that lead to the big love story at the end of the film. These mini stories makes the audience
more excited to wonder what mishap the characters get into. Jaws tends to give out a scare factor through
the POV of the monster to show what its tempted to destroy. It also shows how ruthless the shark is by
destroying boats; to end with the man vs predator. From seeing this, I will look into my target audience and
see their responses to the number of questions I ask them relating to my film. From this, I will tweak my
storyline in order to please my target audience. Lastly, I've learnt how to use camera techniques to effect
on a mood. I can see through the short films for example the SNL sketch use different techniques. SNL has
the camera placed behind someones back in order to tell the audience that the characters are having a
conversation. Jaws uses the dolly zoom to make the character look like he is in realisation and blocking out
everything behind him. I will include the dolly zoom in my film, to make the character look like he is more
zoned up to only think about this situation.

What I’ve not learnt from this
One thing that hasn't benefited me is the way that the camera techniques were made. I already has an
understanding of how they used a train track for the dolly zoom for jaws. This did not benefit me as I'm not
creating this film to the same professional level. A dolly zoom will not be as a effective due to its potential
jerkiness with the lack of proper kit to pull off the technique to a professional standard.
Another thing which I did not find relevant would be the story lines. I haven’t learnt how these films
structure the effects with the camera and the techniques to fit in with these story. I currently don’t fully
understand if some techniques don’t work well with others or if some wont fit in well with its place in the
story of the film. This leaves me having to think more carefully with adding the dolly zoom in the right place.
I need to see what scene I can add after the dolly zoom to know what I can add onto the dramatic sequence
to keep the tense feeling.

In the graph, the male percentage is higher than the female. It shows that more men did my
survey than women. It shows that more men may potentially be likely to watch the film, as more
men reviewed it. In the film, gender isn't really targeted at anyone, as there's no boy or girl
themed parts in it.

This is a graph showing the age range of those who did my graph. The most popular result is 17 year olds,
then followed by 16. This shows that I've got a majority teenage audience doing my surveys, which is what I
wanted as my film is targeted towards the older teens. This means that I was going to get better feedback,
as it’s my intended aged audience doing it.

(Comedy) in my film. The majority voted 10 out of
10, with 7 out 10 being in second place. There are
more votes that are over 5/10 compared to the rest.
This shows how the majority of my audience do like
ad enjoy the comedy Genre. This links with the
previous question, as the majority chose comedy on
that question too, showing how the audience loves
the genre. For my product, my film includes a
comedy aspect towards the end of it, so the
audience will like that, as they seem to really
appreciate the genre.

In this question, Iasked what the surveyors what there favorite comedy film is. Some answers were
the same, as I got three surveyor saying vacation; I got a couple of Hot fuzz and some Adam Sandler
films. These films are aimed at the older target audience, as they are rated 15. The majority of my
audience are over the age of 15, as 19+, 18, 17 are all very popular results. The films have crude and
violent humor, as they all include people getting unexpectedly injured. This shows my audience like
crude and adult comedy, involving violence. My film does include violent comedy at the very end,
when the character picks up a bat and hits someone with it.

In this observation, the survey asked if comedy goes well with tense films. The majority agreed that
it would work well together. Those who agreed would say stuff like it would leave them to relax, or
have an exiting ending, or break the tension. Those who didn’t like it would say that it would ruin the
film or the genres don’t go well together. I also got responses that were on the fence. They were
saying it could either work really well, or be a complete failure. From this, the majority of my
audience think it could work. This shows how my audience would like the mix of both genres to
remove the tense vibe. I did pick five people who thought that it could work, and compared them.
4/5 said that comedy was there favorite genre. The other one said that it was action, but still gave
the comedy genre a high rating. This does show that they like a mix of genres together. My audience
will appreciate the film, as it starts of tense and then ends with a comedy ending.

In this question, I asked the audience how often they would watch the comedy genres out of the rest
of the genres. Most of the surveyors stated that they do watch them often/frequently. Those who
didn’t said that they don’t watch them often. Out of five of those who said they often watch comedy
Films all rated the genre a 10. This shows that they love the genre that much that they would often
watch films relating to comedy, Showing that they like the comedy films. My film is a comedy based
storyline, with it coming to place towards the end to conclude the story. My audience will like the
film because of the comedy vibe at the end. Plus, it would target towards them, as they watch many
comedy films, which involve violence and people getting hurt.

In this question, I asked whether the audience prefer films with a lot of dialog or a lack of it. Most said
that they would prefer dialog in it, whilst some said to either lack it or “depending on the situation.
This shows that my audience would prefer there to be more talking in films, whilst some consider on
the situation. In my film, I can’t have a lot of dialog, as there isn’t much characters in it to have a
conversation, and I want there to be a tense environment in the film in which I believe talking would
kill, as it would look like the character was talking to himself, making it seem cringe worthy to watch.
So my film would target those who believe lacking the dialog and those who depend on situations.

my product, there is a twist and a tense story

In this question, I asked what the thought of my final product. Most people said that they loved the idea
that I’ve shown them. I did get complaints saying that the film was short, but that was my fault as I
never made it clear that it was a short film. This shows that my audience love my film idea. This is
probably because of the comedy side to it, and the fact that the mix of tension and comedy clearly
works, as many people give me the approval.

What this means
From the information that I've gathered, I firstly know that my audience like mainly comedy and action,
horror as a side favourite. This proves to me that they like the idea of a funny situation, but a bit of
shock and violent involved with it. This relates with some of the other questions, for example , question
six, as most would like to see the two genres mixed. It also relates with question five too, as the majority
of the films chosen involve some violent in them (vacation involves the cow being ran over, and the
crazy tartan prance which has hilarious features to it). To conclude, my target audience like to see funny,
but violence also involved in films. For the age, the majority of my surveyors were over 15, showing I got
majority older teenagers doing my survey. This is for the best, as I'm hoping to aim at an older
demographic. You can tell from some of the responses that it was 15+ aged people as most of the films
chosen were aged 15, for example, the dictator, Vacation, where the millers, dead pool etc. This shows
that my film is aimed at a higher age demographic, as the violence in mine is included in a similar way in
the chosen films from the older surveyors. Lastly, what they focus on. The high majority said that they
focus on the plot in question 9, showing that they mostly watch films for the story. In question 5
everyone all seem to like the films based on the props and nothing else. This shows that my audience
will hope to expect a good plot, as the majority of them said they liked my film explanation on question
10. This also shows that they like the twist involved at the end with it being a miss understanding,
showing that they want to see something that they went expecting to happen at the end of the film.

Brilliant. I like the build up and how the audience won't expect it, I think it will work very well. I also like the
change, as it starts of sinister and then snaps into being innocent. I like it a lot.

Honestly, there is nothing I sprint like about it, as it isn't finished I can't properly critique it. In its current form,
as a concept I think it'll be great.
• .What makes you tense when watching a film
A slow tense build-up, like ones you might see in horror or thriller films. Like where some is slowly opening a
door. That kind of thing.

At this point I don't think so. If you asked me this after watching the finished product I could definitely give you
a better answer. It's hard to tell when it's currently an idea/concept. But I think so far it is really good.
• .What do you think of the comedy aspect of the film
I think it's great, the kind of shock comedy. Like a fast and unexpected change or event can really get some
people laughing.

The answers seem to be optimistic, as there is barely any criticism in this, As will is saying that the current
explanation of the film is fine. They also like the twist and the build up to the twist, as they stated that they like
that about the film, and because they like scenes where a jump scare is about to happen. With tension, they
like horror film tension, as they stated that they gave an example of someone slowly opening the door.
What this says about my audience:
This shows that they like the sudden change of theme, meaning they like a mix of genres. It also shows that they
like twists involved with films, showing that they like a surprise involved with a film. With the tension, it shows
that they like to be at the edge of there seats, as with horror films, you don’t know when or what will pop out.
How will your product appeal to this audience:
Firstly, the tension. My film wont be horror film tense, but it will do enough to put you on the edge of your seat, as
it builds up to the idea of something violent happening, as it pans to the character running and grabbing the
bat. With the change of themes, my film turns from a tense and eerie environment to a tragic comedy as it has
a change and unexpected ending. Lastly the twist. Relating to the theme, the film has an unexpected twist,
which changes the mood of the film. You'd believe that the character would be in danger, leading him to hit and
fight someone, but was a complete miss understanding.

Interview 2Observation:
From what I can see, the interviewer believes that my film is a bit violent, since they don’t like the idea of
the bat being used as a weapon. They also believe that my film is different, as they said that it was
imaginative. The bit that was used as an example was the misunderstanding scene. They also like the build
up to a situation in a film, as its stated that the interviewer finds the build up to the action tense. Lastly, they
understand which bit is suppose to be funny in the film.
What this says about my audience:
My audience doesn’t like a film to violent, or show the idea of it, as they would prefer to see a different
weapon being used instead of a bat. They also like to see the unexpected (something new), as they stat that
my film is imaginative which is another way of saying that its different. Lastly, they like to see a build up of a
plot leading to something in the story. They want to see something gradually turn into the big event of the
short film.
How will your product appeal to this audience:
For the violence, the interviewer stated they don’t like too much of it. That is why I'm not going to show the
violent action take place as that scene is set in complete darkness. It will only have a thump sound effect,
only leaving the assumption that the person has been hit. For the unexpected, my film has a twist of an
ending, as it has a miss understanding storyline, rather than any action taking place. With the build up, that
will start when the character sees someone inside of his house. He starts off scared, then violent (as he
grabs the bat), to end with the miss leading situation.

Audience summery
To summarise my audience, as a whole, they mostly look at the story side of a film, as that was the main
chosen option n the survey and the interviewees said that they like a build up to an action, meaning they
focus on the plot to lead to something. For my film, I've made it suspense and tense so that the audience
can be more intrigued to the situation and expect the worst to happen. This is applied to the film through
the slow walking. This makes it more dreadful to what will happen to the character. The audience also seem
to like a mix of genres. The questionnaire tells me that they mostly prefer comedy and action. The
interviewees said different things. One said that its imaginative and the other said that they liked the sudden
change of theme. This is good for me seen as my film will change the mood suddenly too. For the comedy
part of the film, the lighting will change to colourful and the tense music will turn off. This effect will have a
positive and working transition to the second genre. It will work, as it will conclude to a mis-understanding,
as the surprise finally will make the tension scenes seem more hilarious to think back on, as the character
was being over dramatic. Lastly, the age and genre. The audience also like funny and violent humour. In the
favourite film question, most people seem to have put films like hot fuzz and vacation which all seem to have
violent comedic twists to it. One interviewer stated that the violent comedic twist to the film could get
people laughing. In my film, I will add hit sound effects and an awqurd silence at the end of the film. This will
leave time for the audience to laugh at the situation before the film completely ends.

BBFC
I would class my film as a 12A. The reason is because its too violent to be a
PG. the reason is because its showing ideas of what weapons to use to hurt
someone. For a pg, this could lead some kids to copy the actions of the
character in the film, to use a bat as a weapon. So the film includes bad
behaviour and violence in the film. There isn’t any bad language in the film
to make it a 12, as there isn’t much dialogue in it. The same goes for sexual
references too. There isn't too much violence in the film to make it a 15, as
there's no gore in it. It should be a 12A, as the film is pretty much
borderline 12, as it doesn’t meet all of its intentions to scare or freak out
children. There should be a guardian there to watch it with younger
children, as there is scenes in which children will find unsettling, and may
get inspiration to copy the actions.

Jaws Audience
For jaws, you can see what each age and gender has rated the film. Males seem to have given it
a higher rating than women, showing that the film targets and interests the males more. This is
probably because males tend to like more gore and suspense in films, and women tend to like
less. For the age range, the 45+ give a high rating. The reason is because this film was released
in their era, so they would appreciate it more seen as they were 18 back then. The under 18
year olds seem to appreciate the film compared too, probably because they are new to the
older films, and would newly appreciate the suspension in the film.

Military are people who fight others, so
they can relate to the fact that the men in
the film are fighting away a shark.
50-54 age, as the film came out when
it was these peoples era, so they
appreciate it more.
The film was so popular in the first coming
weeks that it made nearly its budget in its
first weekend. This shows how successful the
film is to the audience, and how they've met
their target audience.

Jaws Audience
From researching into jaws, I can see that the target audience is aimed at 16 to 18 year olds,
who are males. This is because if the dark and violent humour that it includes in the film, as
males tend to enjoy that more. From seeing this, I would link it to my film. My film has dark and
quite twisted humour included in it. I believe that people who tend to like jaws would like and
appreciate the suspension in my film. My film has the sense of un-expecting circumstances in
which jaws includes. The age range would be perfect for my film, as they are more likely to
appreciate the young character and the suspense situation.

Dumb and dumber
As you can see from this,18 year olds gave this film the highest rating. This is because of the
adult humour mixed in with slap stick comedy is in this film. That age range appreciates those
two types of comedies. There is also dark humour in the film too (someone dyeing). This
humour is mixed in with the comedy aspect to the film in which elders and under 18s won't
find as funny, as they think it would be too violent. I can also see more males appreciate the
film more than females. This is probably because the main characters in the film are two males
which interest men more than women.

25-29 audience age. The film came
out in the 90s and this erra were
most likely to be 1st hand viewers.
So the older generation appreciate
this type of film now.
The job sectors are mainly in the entertainment
area and manufacturing. The entertainment
could mean comedy or something Talented. This
film is something that would be entertaining to
them.
The films first open weekend had passed the
budget of the film. This clearly shows clearly
that so many people have been to see this
film as the gross is so high. This means that
its won over the public and is successful with
the humour in the film.

Dumb and dumber audience
The target audience would be 18 to 24 year olds of the Male genre. This would be because of the male
casting and the 90s erra the film was made in and because this age range are most likely to handle the
dark comedy. My film also has dark comedy added into it in which this age range will appreciate, as mine
is something that Is funny but shouldn’t really be a laughing matter. The males also relate to my film too,
as mine is an all male cast. This means that more males would be intrigued with my film too. The class of
the audience wont relate to mine. The reason is because my character doesn’t seem to have any money
issues, and lives in a standard home. This targets the upper class more than the lower.

The hit viewing figures
The short film I researched into
earlier has 54,850 viewings. For a
YouTube video, that may not be
much, but this is from a channel of
35k subscribers, showing that they
have either had people re watch the
film, or its been recognised from
non subscribers. This shows that the
shot film is in a way successful as
they are getting more viewers than
the fans who follow them.
The likes aren't fully crucial to the
film, but it does have 918 people
who liked it more than the dislikes.

The comment section from the film seem to have positive responses. The comment section
seem to like the comedy side of the film. this shows that the audience like fun humour in the
action built short film.

The Hit audience
I cant put an age rating to the short film, seen as I cant research into this to see the age demographics. But I
know that it isn’t aimed for over 16, as the video isn't blocked for age groups. I would say its about 12-
18. this is because the older generation would appreciate the older characters and the humorous
comedy that happens. For the 12 year olds, the film isn’t too gory to watch and doesn’t have bad
language, but may be unsettling for younger viewers to watch as there is blood and tension. My film will
also be unsettling whilst funny, as there will be tension building up to the comedy of the film. It isn’t too
gory to freak out the 12 year olds, but may be influencing violence to that age category. The viewing
over runs the subscriber count of the channel. This shows that the audience likes the film, seen as they
are either re watching it, or non subscribers viewed it. It was probably liked based on the funny twist at
the end that the guy is deafened. I'm assuming this based on the comments saying how funny the short
film was and complimenting the effects and the story. This shows how they like the way the film was
structured to build up to the comedy twist at the end. My film will be a mix of tension and comedy, so I
believe that the audience will appreciate the over exadurated build up to the film, seen as they like how
this short film contrasts from serious to comedy.
