The clip begins with children playing a tea party, though ominous music plays in the background to build tension. A master shot shows three girls in historical dresses from the early 1900s playing innocently with dolls. The lighting and music suggest something ominous will happen. The girls then break a teacup and stomp on a doll, before walking in a line and jumping out windows to their deaths. A scream is heard and the woman shouts "My babies" at having lost her children, establishing her as the grieving mother character. At the end, a figure in black clothing and veil is seen at the edge of the frame, implied to be the ominous "Woman in Black".

2. The clip starts off with a close up clip of
imaginary tea being poured into a cup. The
small fine china set that is used gives the
impression to the audience straight away that
it’s children playing tea parties as no tea
actually comes out.
From the beginning of the clip incidental
music is played in the background to set
the mood. The music played is eerie and
creepy as well as slow which fits with the
editing. The editing used is slow paced
which also adds to the tension. The
music contrasts the scene of children
playing with dolls happily and suggests
that this is a thriller

3. A master shot is then used to establish the scene and characters. We see three girls
sitting round playing with dolls and passing tea over. The clothes worn by the girls give
the time period of the movie away to the viewer; the girls wear long historical dresses
suggesting it was set-in the early 1900s. Their clothes and bows tied in their hair also
give connotations of innocence and purity. The low key lighting used also portrays that
something is going to happen and that this isn’t a happy scene. A close up used then
shows the girls smiling faces shows their freedom and expression

4. The music then deepens as the camera angle changes to the door showing
the girls make a direct address to the camera. They then turn to look at the
window while an eyeline match is used to start to show their thought
process. A zoom is also then used to close in on the frame.

5. A mid shot then shows the girls stand up while one drops her teacup on the
floor. An action match is used to show the teacup breaking symbolising the
destruction of their innocence. The girls then stamp on the dolls head and a
teapot also highlighting their fate of death.

6. The girls are then seen walking in a
straight line with blank facial
expressions showing they are
emotionless and being controlled.
They each then open the windows and as the
girls jump the music drops. Using the children
for a thriller makes the movie feel creepy and
juxtapositions the stereotype of thrillers where
children are usually not included or are used
as the innocent scared characters.

7. A scream is then heard in the
background signifying the death of the
children as the woman shouts “My
babies”. This then highlights the youth
of the children and how the mother is
now left with all her children dead.
A shot from the door is then shown zoomed
out to show the woman in black at the edge of
the camera, this uses the rule of thirds. We
can tell she is the woman in black from the
black clothing and veil giving a dark look on
the clip.
