Marijuana as a Gateway Drug
Sociology 225 Research Paper Marijuana as a Gateway Drug The gateway theory is a hypothesis
which states that the use of gateway drugs (alcohol, tobacco and marijuana) lead to the use of more
illicit drugs such as heroin and cocaine. According to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA),
marijuana is a Schedule I substance under the Controlled Substances Act. Schedule I drugs are
classified as having a high potential for abuse, no currently accepted medical use in treatment in
the United States, and a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under
medical supervision. Marijuana is thus considered by the U.S. government to be more dangerous
than cocaine and opium both Schedule II drugs, and at the same time a... Show more content on

Risk of hard drug use goes up with marijuana use as a matter of circumstance not due to an
unbreakable link. There are two parts to the gateway theory: 1) those that use illicit substances
like cocaine or heroin will use marijuana first and 2) the use of marijuana exerts a casual influence
on one s likelihood of using other illicit substances. According to the Can Social Psychological
Delinquency Theory Explain The Link Between Marijuana and Other Illicit Drug Use? article, the
study set out to disprove the second qualification of the gateway theory. However, it failed to do so
because the results suggested those who use marijuana are between three and five times more likely
than counterparts to use other illicit drugs even after adjusting statistically for the influence for
strain, social bonding and differential association. It noted that the results were observed across
multiple time points and across multiple methods, one of which adjusts statistically for the
influence of unmeasured variables. It conceded the point that the use of marijuana may contribute
in a casual manner to one s probability of using other illicit drugs. It has been widely regarded that
postponing youths marijuana initiation, prevention efforts will reduce the likelihood of hard drug
use and abuse (Yamaguchi amp; Kandel 1984b; Kandel et al. 1992; Golub amp; Johnson 2001).
Postponing one s marijuana initiation to a certain extent only brings them closer to the drug
underworld. In a

Kneeling Monologue
Kneeling on the frozen snow nor feeling nor knowing what is beneath me?.... my cells are no
longer responding... My body is shivering, begging me to stop.......My hands are pale as if my
blood has frozen, barely moving, barely thinking, barely conscious. My glim of hope vanishing
as I realise I won t survive in this vast of white snow... Lost the sense of direction. How many
days have I travelled? Believing in a glim that goes nowhere. Am I going insane? Not knowing
the date nor the time nor someone to talk to but only myself. Only if my friend was here... What
am I talking about his already dead. How did he die ? I can t remember well? We were walking
nearby a river hoping if we follow the current it may lead us to people,I heard a splash I turned
my back and he was into the cold water, I helped him to get up but his foot got stuck into a

The Unnamables By Ellen Booraem
I recently got done reading a book called The Unnamables by Ellen Booraem, and I have read the
whole book. In that book, there were three main characters named Medford, Prudy, and
Goatman. This book is about an island, and everything on this island has a name. Things that are
given a name, are supposed to live up to that name and do nothing more or less than that name.
For example, their island is called Island, their city hall is called City Hall and so forth. People
are also given names that they are to live up to, like Baker, Pickler, Carver, and so forth. I think
this book takes place in the past. The reason I think this, is because the people in this story uses
words like thou, thus, and phrases like I fare well . The main character,

Mezzo Social Work
In the field of social work there are different types of groups that we will eventually be working
with. Because the field of social work is so big, it is broken down into groups. These groups are
micro and mezzo. Both of these types of groups are very different from each other yet these types
of groups can be beneficial to individuals and families who are in need of some assistance. Micro
practice is a level of practice in which social workers work in. In the field of social work, micro is
the practice that typically involves the direct contact with the individuals or families. A social
worker who is working in the micro level tends to work with low income individuals, individuals
who suffer from addictions such as alcohol and other drugs

Internship Benefits For College Students
Introduction:
Having a college degree is no longer enough to ensure that you secure a job upon graduating
(Huhman, 2011). Therefore expanding your college experience through internship opportunities
will not only give you valuable work experience, you can make a significant impact using your
skills and abilities in causes you are passionate about. Increasingly, employers value candidates that
have the academic knowledge, leadership, and technical skills set that can be applied to solving
complex problems in science and industry to addressing world health, environmental, and conflict
crises.
Internships offer many advantages to college students. First, it is the best resource to develop the
skills employers seek (Florida International University, 2017). According to the US Department of
Labor, the skills set employers most look for are critical thinking skills, excellent communication
skills, and the ability to work in a team (Occupational Outlook Quaterly, 2016).
Second, internships enable students to apply classroom knowledge to real world problems,
strengthening skills, and acquiring experience that employers seek in a candidate (Florida
International University, 2017). When selecting candidates, employers look at three significant
factors, an applicant s field of study; a high GPA, leadership experience, and experience in their
field (NACE, 2016, p. 3). Additionally, internships enable students to work in their chosen career
path, giving them an insider s

How Does Peter Shaffer Use Themes as Devices in Equus to...
It is difficult to suggest what the comfortable view of normal is as there are many different
perceptions, which should be considered. In the beginning of Equus one considers the character of
Martin Dysart to be normal as he rarely strays outside of societies boundaries. However, as we
move through the play one discovers there is much more to Martin Dysart than once thought. In
reality the themes dealt with in Equuschallenges our own sense of what is normal. They are as
equally as shocking to Dysart, yet made justifiable by Alan Strang s worship for Equus, the god of
horses. This is why Peter Shafferuses Equus as a sort of device to standardize and make the strange

Although abstract normality adopts god like features and begins to dominate our lives. It is The
average made lethal. Sadly, it is unescapable and whether we accept it or not it will stay with us
forever. Through the help of Strang, Dysart acknowledges this and realises his job consists of
removing the good smile in a child eyes . He feels as though by limiting one to the constraints of
normality part of their humanity is lost. This is shown through his dream on page 24. This dream
is the first time that the audience can see Martin Dysart s transition from the comfortable view of
what is normal to a more unique view on life.
Peter Shaffer uses Equus as a device to standardize and make the abnormal acceptable. In reality
many of the themes and actions dealt with challenge our sense of normality so by introducing an
element of innocence into Strang s character, we as an audience, are suddenly forced to connect
and sympathise for him. The innocence is ultimately illustrated by Strang s worship and love for
Equus. Without the element of innocence it would be difficult to forgive his defiance of the
comfortable view of what is normal. Yet without the defiance we would be unable to forgive him
for fitting the societies view of what is normal. Essentially this innocence is the element, which
balances the personality of Alan Strang beautifully. Interestingly these are the very elements that
Dysart is lacking. That s what his stare has been

that you won t be able to hear the whispers in the background or birds chirping when taking a

hear much more than you were expecting to hear. This whole situation is based on my life, and
you are going to learn how much a CI have impacted me. A CI is a cochlear implant, and it is a

They were all so helpful to me, and gave me the most amazing stories, I was very touched by
them. The second individual factor I used was I would practice understanding how to hear with
my Cochlear Implant, every day, for about a couple years, until the beeping noise would stop.
The reason for this is because, whenever a deaf person first gets their cochlear implant, all
noises will be beeping. The beeping will eventually stop whenever the cochlea will get used to
hearing with a Cochlear Implant, rather than a hearing aid. I would turn off my hearing aid
every day, and practice listening to people and certain different sounds. When I started doing
this, amazing things happened. I developed into being able to hear with my Cochlear implant so
well, I could hear birds chirping and ocean waves crashing for the first time. Since the Cochlear
Implant turned on, I could hear my father s laugh for the first time, and it took weeks to get used
to it and fully develop on knowing his voice. I feel like as if these factors would be individual
because I was the one that advocated for myself and research some information for my own
benefit. I wanted to learn how to hear with a Cochlear Implant rather quickly, and develop that
activity, so that I could be able to hear much clearer and better.

victimization is really no stranger to us because this one happens on a daily basis. It involves a
highly government official who takes pleasure trips and writes them off as business expenses is
cheating the public. Mutual victimization is when two or people are involved in a crime then all
of certain the crime goes haywire and the others that are involved in the crime become the
victim. How often have we seen this to occur? For example the first robber get angry at the other
two because they did not divide the money correctly between them so he turn around and robs
them. The final one of the five categories is called no victimization, I really did not understand
this to the fullest but I think it involves when no one can be blame for crime which weird to me. I

Invention Of The Camera And How It Revolutionized History
The Invention of the Camera and How it Revolutionized History Sense the invention of the camera
in 1826 photography has been used to document everything from family portraits, social injustice,
sporting events, world news, expressions of joy and sorrow, and hundreds of monumental moments.
The camera has given man the power to reveal the truth visually. Throughout history photographs
have made enormous impacts on social consciousness and ultimately shaped public opinion on
many pressing issues in society. Although photographyis often considered a casual pastime, the
invention of the camerahas contributed to many aspects of history, science, and other important
pieces of todays world.
Before the invention of the camera, news traveled through word of mouth, writing, telegrams, and
other forms of communication. Often times important moments were depicted through paintings,
and drawings. Unfortunately, because of opinion and misinterpretation, many of those moments,
had been depicted incorrectly. Take, for example the Boston Massacre which took place in the late
1700 s before the invention of the camera. In order to inform people of what is now known as the
shot heard around the world, Paul Revere, a famous American revolutionist made an engraving of
the scene.
People are accustomed to trusting the accuracy of historic documents, however the composition of
this the engraving contains several inaccuracies that serious researchers should be aware of. In Fact

The Effects Of Social Media On America
There was no warning of the immense tragedy that hit southern Louisiana on Friday, August 12,
2016. A rain that came in harder than most hurricanes that have hit Louisiana. This down poor
stayed in the same place for several days and did not stop. Social media had a huge effect on
how this tragedy played out. Where help was being sent, who was okay and who was not okay.
People resorted to using their phones to check on people and letting people know where help
was needed with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, local news stations, and the radio.
After everything slowed down and recovery started, everyone stuck together as a community.
People posted GoFundMe pages on Facebook, started groups to start going out to neighborhoods
to help work on houses also on Facebook, fundraiser concerts were promoted on Instagram. The
local news stations showed where to go and what forms to fill out if they needed help with
getting started on their homes. It was the second day of my senior year when I was woken up by
rumbling thunder. My two younger sisters and I all got in my small convertible mustang and
started to drive to school. I could not see through the window because my windshield wipers
were not going fast enough to keep up with the rainfall. The country roads were flooded the

Minor Characters In Macbeth Essay
Macbeth is a play written by William Shakespeare, the play s genre is a tragedy. The play is about
Macbeth who kills the King of Scotland (Duncan) so he can become king himself. It is the minor
characters in Macbeth who attract our interest, this is shown in the three paragraphs below in which
Banquo, Duncan and Malcolm are classed as minor characters and how they attract our interest.
Banquo s role throughout the play is to be dramatic which then provides an effective foil for
Macbeth. The temptations of the witches were shown to be avoided by Banquo resulting Macbeth
to act somewhat normal. Equal in status to Macbeth as a commander, and similarly ambitious
Banquo expresses unshakeable moral principles and an ability to tell right from wrong. He warns
Macbeth the witches may be instruments of darkness and not be trusted. When Macbeth hints that
they might plot together, Banquo states firmly he will keep his allegiance clear . After Duncan s

is to be too trusting. He realised this when he made an error with the unfaithful Thane of

The Wasteland by T.S. Eliot
T.S. Eliot s most famous poem The Wasteland, a grim picture of post war London is analyzed as
being the most important poetic work of the twentieth century. The first glance at this poem leads
one to the conclusion that the content of this piece is bleak and depressing. The assumption can be
made that Eliot has diagnosed his society with a terminal disease, which he chooses to describe
through his poem. After further analyzing The Wasteland it can be seen that out of the dust of this
barren place there shines a light of hope. In this decayed hole among the mountains/In the faint
moonlight, the grass is singing (361 62). The decaying world being serenaded by the grass under
the moonlight reinforces the idea that out of desolation, something wonderful can be found or
created. Eliot scatters The Wasteland with motifs in the setting that directly contrast to the fertile
periods of society in previous years. Eliot intentionally manipulates an obscure water motif in order
to illustrate nature and life. Just like water is constantly altered in structure through its path, Eliot s
poem continually changes due to his literary structure of writing: stream of consciousness. It is
strange to think of a description of a barren land being writhe with water. Eliot discusses a drought
in a desolate dessert, yet also talks about the abundance of it in the drowning of the Phoenician
Sailor. He seemingly contradicts himself in his discussion. Water is a symbol of fertility, how can

Fifty JFK Conspiracy Clues Essays
FIFTY JFK CONSPIRACY CLUES The Rosetta Stone of the JFK Assassination is the famous
photograph, by James Ike Altgens, which was taken about one second after the throat wound of
JFK, since it is the only photo in the public files that shows a motorcycle escort cop next to the
limousine during the final 30 seconds. Many Zapruder Film frames were blocked by a Freeway
sign and some Z frame lines move, upwards, near the final shot and hide something with the frame
lines. Therefore, if you cross reference the following photos to each other by time and by angles,
you may conclude, as I have, that the Stemmons Freeway Sign was moved or added to the Zapruder

Death as a Theme in the Writings of Emily Dickinson Essay
Emily Dickinson Paper
Alex Lesnick
May 7, 2002
Period 1
Written word is perhaps the most powerful medium that humans have created to express their
thoughts. A person can express a myriad of emotions through pen and paper, ranging from hope and
happiness to morbid obsessions and anxiety. Written words, unlike spoken words, are for eternity.
Once a thought is written down, anyone can read it, interpret it, ponder it, or question it, until it is
destroyed. On the other hand, if a thought is spoken, it exists only for a second and then exists only
in the minds of the one who uttered it and those who heard it. Only those who were present can
interpret, question, or ponder that thought. If the paper or whatever material a thought ... Show more

the story to describe these kids and one of the ways he does this is through the theme war leads

Violence In EuripidesBacchae
Unabashedly, tragedy is brimming with violence and death, it reeks of blood and is strewn with
corpses (Henrichs 173). If it is not the precipice of the action, the plot of tragedy often revolves
around the build up to or the after effects of violence; what to do with the body, how to
reintegrate after the fact, and even what to do when violence is taken too far, such as in the
Ajax. As a pervasive force in classical antiquity, the audience of the City Dionysia would be all
too familiar with the many faces of violence throughout the cusping three decades of the
Peloponnesian war leading up to 405 BC. Although it is flawed to attempt to condense tragedy
into a single function, it is perhaps less so to name one as a digestion of the everyday violence of
the ancient world. In Euripides Bacchae, the motif of violence is first presented by means of an
enraptured herdsman speech that revels in the spectacle of violent delights and foreshadows what
is to come. This motif comes to a close when a second messenger reveals the tragic reality of
violence and Pentheus sparagmos while the chorus of bacchants revels in their god s brutality.
Through examining the chorus status and perspective on violence, the staging behind Agave
wielding Pentheus head, and the contemporaneous socio political climate in Athens, the Bacchae
can be examined as in dialogue with tragedy s tradition of violence.
The first messenger speech sets the stage for the traditional role of violence in tragedy.

Victim Blaming Sociology
The phenomenon of victim blaming is a multifaceted topic with far reaching consequences. The
tendency to blame innocent victims stems from a need to cope with threats to our concept of
reality. People generally prefer to consider the world to be just a concept that indicates that people
get what they deserve. This just world view is very integral to the worldview of most people, so
when it is threatened, individuals employ defensive strategies to reestablish a sense of justice in the
world (Hafer, 2000). Blaming the victimin some capacity for misfortunes that befall them is a
convenient way to reestablish a just world view. Such misattribution of blame institutes the
possibility that victims of crimes or disease will be mistreated and... Show more content on

It is more likely that a person will engage in victim blaming when the victim in question is an in
group member in some capacity. When a person whom is perceived as belonging to one s in
group is victimized, one s perception of the just world is more likely to be threatened (Correia
Vala, 2003). This is because observers wish to believe themselves as invincible to the same types of
misfortune as those who are victimized, and the more similarities between the observer and the
victim, the more the observer may question this perception of invincibility (Goldenberg Forgas,
2012).
Mood Induction When an individual engages in victim blaming practices, they are attempting to
alleviate psychological discomfort. It is reasonable to suggest, then, that pre existing states of
mood may influence the likelihood of blaming the victim. Mood as resource theory indicates that
a positive mood acts as a resource, which individuals may draw upon when presented with
situations that threaten their world view (Raghunathan Trope, 2002). Because of this, a person in
a positive mood is less likely to engage in victim blaming, while a person in a negative mood is
more likely to engage in victim blaming.

How do experiences, good or bad, shape the identity of an individual and make them stand apart
from others? In the award winning novel A Complicated Kindness, by Miriam Toews and the
classic best seller Anne of Green Gables, by L.M Montgomery, the struggle and desire to find
personal identity is profound. Through a series of experiences, the main characters in each novel,
one a rebellious Mennonite and the other a red headed orphan, are forced to look within
themselves and realize one of the most commonly asked question, who am I? As both Nomi and
Anne grow internally, not only do they find gratification for themselves, but they also allow others

Through Matthew s death, Anne realizes her full potential and the meaning of her life. Death of life
is a shared experience in both A Complicated Kindnessand Anne of Green Gables. Although death
of life affects many of the characters in the novels, it mainly affects Nomi and Anne, who take
their mourning and use it to grow. Because of this death, both characters make life changing
decisions; Nomi decides to leave her community in East Village and Anne decides to refuse her
scholarship at Queens University and stay home with Marilla, her mother figure. Finally, death
of religion defines Nomi as a person when she is unable to follow her religion, People here just
can t wait to die, it seems. It s the main event. The only reason we re not all snuffed at birth is
because that would reduce our suffering by a lifetime. But I ll have no part of that , (5, Toews).
As a Mennonite, Nomi is expected to follow her religion. One important part of religion to
Mennonites is the thought of afterlife, which as Nomi states, is all people seem to be living for.
However, instead of following the pessimistic outlooks that people have on life, Nomi decides to
rebel against her religion and live her life how she pleases. In Anne of Green Gables, the death of
religion can be seen progressing Anne s identity through her decision to turn her back on the
Catholic faith, Anne hoped that tears would come in solitude...she found it hard to

be used easily to manipulate the audience. Champaign is has many examples, one being how she
presented herself on The Jerry Springer Show. Champaign believes herself to be a woman, so
she dresses like a woman and also softens her voice because it is who she is. This allowed the
audience to see her as a woman, so far that her boyfriend, Andre, didn t notice she was born a

she controlled her identity so people see her as a woman. Another example of how Champaign
used how she presents herself to the audience is when she became angry and confrontational
towards a live audience member and Andre, she lowered and relaxed her voice to a much more
masculine voice. This was all after being ridiculed and attacked for being born a man, Champaign
tried to present herself as worthy physical adversary to intimidate those who opposed her. Just by
changing her voice she completely changed her identity from a girl who wants to come clean from
a secret, to an intimidating figure. After she lowered her voice the crowd clearly reacted to the way
that Champaign intended to by making them burst in excitement because of the implication of a

The Community Health Workers Of The United States Essay
In the United States there are over seven million uninsured children where Community Health
Workers (CHWs) have been successfully contributing to the increased number of childhood
insurance enrollments. CHWs incorporated training Parent Mentors (PMs) for soliciting other
parents who would in turn educate and raise awareness to issues such as the management of
asthma, provision of a supportive home environments for early learning and interventional services,
increased immunization rates, identification of food insecurities, poisoning knowledge and safe
farm working environments. Historically, Medicaid and the Children s Health InsurancePrograms
(CHIPs) have provided these services where the enrollees have had to overcome barriers to
challenging, hard to negotiate qualifications, inequities and enrollment processes. Whereby today,
in combination with PM training those deficiencies found in the Medicaid/CHIP system could be
effectively overcome. As qualified PMs reach out to the public it will be necessary to implement
adequate testing measures for performance, skill sets, adequate training, knowledge and

children and what impact it will have on the overall healthcare system.

Houston had many similarities and differences defining their courage. Both led an army with

If the Orings do not properly seal these gaps it is possible for exhaust gasses to get into the internal
structure of the joint field. The extreme temperatures of the exhaust gasses are too high for the
internal joint, known as the Tang and Clevis, to handle. The Tang and Clevis are the two main parts
of the joint. They are mating sections that are held together with one hundred seventy seven pins.
Without the O rings, the Tang and Clevis are not able to withstand the extreme pressure of exhaust

Madoff Case Study
Author s Viewpoint In the case study about the Bernie Madoff scandal, the author makes the point
that the motivation to succeed in business can present a conflict with the fiduciary duty that a
business person has to the client. There is question whether Madoff was motivated solely by
greed, in which case he was engaged in a simple Ponzi scheme, or whether he used the Ponzi
scheme to hide his failure to generate returns for his clients. Madoff s lack of transparency violated
the trust of his clients, even if he did not initially intend to defraud his clients. There is some ethical
ambiguity in this case. Discussion The lesson of this case is that transparency is the best policy,

Two The most famous Ponzi scheme, and which gave rise to the term, involved Charles Ponzi s
sale of international reply coupons to be reimbursed for postage stamps (Grossman, 2012). Like
other schemes, Ponzi paid off investors with proceeds generated from newer investors. Ponzi s
scheme is notable because it not only lost investor funds but also brought down six banks.
However, this scheme was relatively small compared to the one launched by Allen Stanford,
which defrauded investors of more than $7 billion, compared to Ponzi s $20 million. Three It is
almost impossible to believe that Madoff s sons did not know about their father s fraud, and thus
they were complicit ethically if not legally. They could have simply reviewed the investments that
Madoff claimed to have made to generate the returns, which would have revealed no link between
investor assets and the investments. Madoff would have had to prevent his sons from reviewing
any of the transactions. Madoff s sons not knowing of their father s scheme may be far fetched,
since his sons were directly involved in trading as the Director of Trading and Director of
Proprietary Trading. Four The ethical issues surrounding running a family owned business relate to
the ability to remain impartial and transparent to a third party who has the interests of investors,
customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders at heart. The family has a single interest that could
result in a cover up when wrongdoing occurs. By

The Pros And Cons Of Wildlife Conservancy
Introduction According to the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act, 2013, wildlife
conservancy means: Land set aside by an individual, land owners, body corporate, group of

Act, wildlife conservation is now a recognized form of land use. There are incentives for
largescale landowners to convert private ranches to conservancies. Presently, there are between
133 140 conservancies spread across 22 counties covering over 7.5 million acres. In Isiolo county,
we have 8 conservancies straddling across the county. In the recent past, there has been an ongoing

They may fail to benefit and empower pastoralists as much as promised. They may interfere with

The devastation of Hurricane Katrina on the city of New Orleans sparked a national conversation
about who, or what, to blame for the disaster. There were inherent problems in how the chain of

of the levees might be easier than creating a new system. In addition, this plan might be viewed
favorably by the Trump administration, which is eager to invest in infrastructure projects. Actors
that might object to this plan include the EPA and the people of New Orleans. This is because
even if the levee system were expanded, the system would continue to negatively impact the
wetlands and could potentially lead to larger problems in the future. Additionally, those living in
New Orleans who experienced the failure of the levees during Hurricane Katrina might be wary to
see a reinvestment in the system. Stone s theories of security notes that security can be defined
loosely as a freedom from fear . For those who lived through the hurricane, the levee failure

My Memories Of My Childhood
Looking back at my childhood, I suppose you could say it was pretty difficult. Even at my happiest,
I was living with a foster family, separated from the rest of my biological relatives. However, I
couldn t complain. I loved them like they were my family that I spent my whole life with. I was a
five year old boy living a happy life. I had grown attached to the family, feeling like I was truly a
part of it. Then one cold November day it all changed. A woman dressed in black came to my
home I had grown to love and told me it was time to go away. I horrified, not knowing where I
could be taken. After waiting in a room full of toys for a few hours, she came back in and told
me it was time to go. She put me in the back seat of a car and started driving. Driving to my
mother s house, to live with her and my two brothers. They didn t even feel like family anymore.
Time marched on, however. My sister was born, I was reintroduced to my family, and although I
missed the Bernards, everything felt like it was going to be ok.
Everything seemed to be, until I was fifteen. One September morning while sitting in my English
class, I was called to the office. Upon arrival, I was informed that I was being de enrolled by my
mother. She told me that she was putting me on independent studies. I could handle that. However,
I couldn t handle the reason; my mother had been diagnosed with cancer.
The weeks started turning into months. The next thing I knew, it was time to start junior year, and I

Romeo And Juliet Tybalt Fight Quotes
Publisher: The fight to supremacy is a hard fought battle, all people wonder how to get to the
point of supremacy but you two would know the best about supremacy, give me a intake on your
thoughts? Eric: You should attack from the back, using the element of surprise as your
advantage Tybalt: Only a coward attacks from behind, leaving their opponents vulnerable. Real
men have the guts to attack head on wishing for the fullest of their opponents. Eric: There is no
being (makes air quotes) a man when it comes to winning, sometimes you have to do it the dirty
way, whether you like it or not. Tybalt: No one accepts a man who attacks from behind to sit at

Tybalt: Nonetheless you do whatever it takes. You cheat, sabotage (Tybalt makes hand gestures

Eric: Winning has so many components to it. Tybalt: Which are....? Eric: Think of winning as a
game of chess you have to sacrifice some pieces that are important, even the king falls time to
time but in the end a pawn has the power to accomplish what a king couldn t Tybalt: However it
is also like building a pyramid you have to put others beneath you to be able to reach the peak.
Eric: This may be easy to say but when it comes down to it many hesitate because they don t
want to do others harm. But I say hell with emotions. They don t mix well with winning Tybalt:
Precisely, emotions have a way of getting in the way when you express them. Eric: Getting power

  • 2. Marijuana as a Gateway Drug Sociology 225 Research Paper Marijuana as a Gateway Drug The gateway theory is a hypothesis which states that the use of gateway drugs (alcohol, tobacco and marijuana) lead to the use of more illicit drugs such as heroin and cocaine. According to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), marijuana is a Schedule I substance under the Controlled Substances Act. Schedule I drugs are classified as having a high potential for abuse, no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States, and a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under medical supervision. Marijuana is thus considered by the U.S. government to be more dangerous than cocaine and opium both Schedule II drugs, and at the same time a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Risk of hard drug use goes up with marijuana use as a matter of circumstance not due to an unbreakable link. There are two parts to the gateway theory: 1) those that use illicit substances like cocaine or heroin will use marijuana first and 2) the use of marijuana exerts a casual influence on one s likelihood of using other illicit substances. According to the Can Social Psychological Delinquency Theory Explain The Link Between Marijuana and Other Illicit Drug Use? article, the study set out to disprove the second qualification of the gateway theory. However, it failed to do so because the results suggested those who use marijuana are between three and five times more likely than counterparts to use other illicit drugs even after adjusting statistically for the influence for strain, social bonding and differential association. It noted that the results were observed across multiple time points and across multiple methods, one of which adjusts statistically for the influence of unmeasured variables. It conceded the point that the use of marijuana may contribute in a casual manner to one s probability of using other illicit drugs. It has been widely regarded that postponing youths marijuana initiation, prevention efforts will reduce the likelihood of hard drug use and abuse (Yamaguchi amp; Kandel 1984b; Kandel et al. 1992; Golub amp; Johnson 2001). Postponing one s marijuana initiation to a certain extent only brings them closer to the drug underworld. In a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is difficult to suggest what the comfortable view of normal is as there are many different perceptions, which should be considered. He feels as though by limiting one to the constraints of normality part of their humanity is lost. This is shown through his dream on page 24. This dream is the first time that the audience can see Martin Dysart s transition from the comfortable view of what is normal to a more unique view on life. Peter Shaffer uses Equus as a device to standardize and make the abnormal acceptable. In reality many of the themes and actions dealt with challenge our sense of normality so by introducing an element of innocence into Strang s character, we as an audience, are suddenly forced to connect and sympathise for him. The innocence is ultimately illustrated by Strang s worship and love for Equus. Without the element of innocence it would be difficult to forgive his defiance of the comfortable view of what is normal. Yet without the defiance we would be unable to forgive him for fitting the societies view of what is normal. The second individual factor I used was I would practice understanding how to hear with my Cochlear Implant, every day, for about a couple years, until the beeping noise would stop. The reason for this is because, whenever a deaf person first gets their cochlear implant, all noises will be beeping. The beeping will eventually stop whenever the cochlea will get used to hearing with a Cochlear Implant, rather than a hearing aid. I would turn off my hearing aid every day, and practice listening to people and certain different sounds. When I started doing this, amazing things happened. • 24. The Wasteland by T.S. Eliot T.S. Eliot s most famous poem The Wasteland, a grim picture of post war London is analyzed as being the most important poetic work of the twentieth century. The first glance at this poem leads one to the conclusion that the content of this piece is bleak and depressing. The assumption can be made that Eliot has diagnosed his society with a terminal disease, which he chooses to describe through his poem. After further analyzing The Wasteland it can be seen that out of the dust of this barren place there shines a light of hope. In this decayed hole among the mountains/In the faint moonlight, the grass is singing (361 62). The decaying world being serenaded by the grass under the moonlight reinforces the idea that out of desolation, something wonderful can be found or created. Eliot scatters The Wasteland with motifs in the setting that directly contrast to the fertile periods of society in previous years. Eliot intentionally manipulates an obscure water motif in order to illustrate nature and life. Just like water is constantly altered in structure through its path, Eliot s poem continually changes due to his literary structure of writing: stream of consciousness. It is strange to think of a description of a barren land being writhe with water. Eliot discusses a drought in a desolate dessert, yet also talks about the abundance of it in the drowning of the Phoenician Sailor. He seemingly contradicts himself in his discussion. • 28. Violence In EuripidesBacchae Unabashedly, tragedy is brimming with violence and death, it reeks of blood and is strewn with corpses (Henrichs 173). If it is not the precipice of the action, the plot of tragedy often revolves around the build up to or the after effects of violence; what to do with the body, how to reintegrate after the fact, and even what to do when violence is taken too far, such as in the Ajax. As a pervasive force in classical antiquity, the audience of the City Dionysia would be all too familiar with the many faces of violence throughout the cusping three decades of the Peloponnesian war leading up to 405 BC. Although it is flawed to attempt to condense tragedy into a single function, it is perhaps less so to name one as a digestion of the everyday violence of the ancient world. In Euripides Bacchae, the motif of violence is first presented by means of an enraptured herdsman speech that revels in the spectacle of violent delights and foreshadows what is to come. This motif comes to a close when a second messenger reveals the tragic reality of violence and Pentheus sparagmos while the chorus of bacchants revels in their god s brutality. Through examining the chorus status and perspective on violence, the staging behind Agave wielding Pentheus head, and the contemporaneous socio political climate in Athens, the Bacchae can be examined as in dialogue with tragedy s tradition of violence. The first messenger speech sets the stage for the traditional role of violence in tragedy. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Victim Blaming Sociology The phenomenon of victim blaming is a multifaceted topic with far reaching consequences. The tendency to blame innocent victims stems from a need to cope with threats to our concept of reality. People generally prefer to consider the world to be just a concept that indicates that people get what they deserve. This just world view is very integral to the worldview of most people, so when it is threatened, individuals employ defensive strategies to reestablish a sense of justice in the world (Hafer, 2000). Blaming the victimin some capacity for misfortunes that befall them is a convenient way to reestablish a just world view. Such misattribution of blame institutes the possibility that victims of crimes or disease will be mistreated and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is more likely that a person will engage in victim blaming when the victim in question is an in group member in some capacity. When a person whom is perceived as belonging to one s in group is victimized, one s perception of the just world is more likely to be threatened (Correia Vala, 2003). This is because observers wish to believe themselves as invincible to the same types of misfortune as those who are victimized, and the more similarities between the observer and the victim, the more the observer may question this perception of invincibility (Goldenberg Forgas, 2012). Mood Induction When an individual engages in victim blaming practices, they are attempting to alleviate psychological discomfort. It is reasonable to suggest, then, that pre existing states of mood may influence the likelihood of blaming the victim. Mood as resource theory indicates that a positive mood acts as a resource, which individuals may draw upon when presented with situations that threaten their world view (Raghunathan Trope, 2002). This was all after being ridiculed and attacked for being born a man, Champaign tried to present herself as worthy physical adversary to intimidate those who opposed her. Just by changing her voice she completely changed her identity from a girl who wants to come clean from a secret, to an intimidating figure. After she lowered her voice the crowd clearly reacted to the way that Champaign intended to by making them burst in excitement because of the implication of a physical confrontation. • 33. The Community Health Workers Of The United States Essay In the United States there are over seven million uninsured children where Community Health Workers (CHWs) have been successfully contributing to the increased number of childhood insurance enrollments. CHWs incorporated training Parent Mentors (PMs) for soliciting other parents who would in turn educate and raise awareness to issues such as the management of asthma, provision of a supportive home environments for early learning and interventional services, increased immunization rates, identification of food insecurities, poisoning knowledge and safe farm working environments. Historically, Medicaid and the Children s Health InsurancePrograms (CHIPs) have provided these services where the enrollees have had to overcome barriers to challenging, hard to negotiate qualifications, inequities and enrollment processes. Whereby today, in combination with PM training those deficiencies found in the Medicaid/CHIP system could be effectively overcome. As qualified PMs reach out to the public it will be necessary to implement adequate testing measures for performance, skill sets, adequate training, knowledge and effectiveness. The evaluations of those contributions will directly relate to the overall healthcare of children and what impact it will have on the overall healthcare system. • 34. Compare And Contrast Sam Houston And Joan Of Arc Throughout history, courage has inspired many to overcome endeavors and stand for what they believe. Sam Houston and Joan of Arc made an effort to stand up and do that very thing. Courage rises from deep within a person s character. The true courage these two people had to stand up against the odds, and to strive for what is right and necessary is astonishing. Joan of Arc and Sam Houston had many similarities and differences defining their courage. Both led an army with charismatic leadership, stood for what they believed despite others due to their devout loyalty, and unfortunately never got to see the impact they made on history and the people they fought for. They also had many differences involving their ways of reaching their goal, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Joan of Arc grew up as a peasant but by the end of the war, she earned her family a striking coat of arms signifying her ascent into nobility. She came from an unknown village and rose to greatness when she was a mere teenager, and as an uneducated peasant. She had the heart of a warrior, not of a nineteen year old girl. She grew up very quickly and had the responsibility of a nation on her shoulders. Sam Houston grew up very different. He grew up as a well off child and his calling did not arise until he was older. Although they began and ended with difference fates, both courageous servicemen acted on their initial instinct to act out what they believe. Sam Houston was able to do something no other man in his position could do. He stood up even though other people strongly disagreed with what he had to say. He was alone in what he thought but did not capitulate to the single mindedness of the others. Joan of Arc on the contrary, had no one but the English against her. Her nation was rooting for her and she had the support of thousands of soldiers and the King of France himself. After their deaths, what they did still continued to impact their country. Houston was able to see the start of what he has stood up for rise and become firm in the United States government. However, Joan of Arc was burned before she was able to see what her selflessness produced. She was the vessel to the creation of a new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If the Orings do not properly seal these gaps it is possible for exhaust gasses to get into the internal structure of the joint field. The extreme temperatures of the exhaust gasses are too high for the internal joint, known as the Tang and Clevis, to handle. The Tang and Clevis are the two main parts of the joint. They are mating sections that are held together with one hundred seventy seven pins. Without the O rings, the Tang and Clevis are not able to withstand the extreme pressure of exhaust gasses. 3 Figure 1. Cross section view of field joint located in the Solid Rocket Booster Four Technical Problems First let s look at the four mechanical aspects of the Challengers problems, blow holes, O Ring erosion, joint rotation, and the response of O Rings during low temperature. The condition of the primary seal is essential to the successful operation of the rocket booster. Engineers had to make sure that the seal was not damaged, so they increased the pressure of the leak test to above the pressure that the putty could withstand. This was supposed to make sure the O ring was correctly covering the gap without the help of the putty. Blow holes were tiny tunnel like holes that were left in the zinc chromate putty of the rocket booster insulation. The putty was supposed to protect the O rings from the hot exhaust. The holes were a result of pressurized test known as the leak check port. The leak test left engineers worried; they didn t think that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. Madoff Case Study Author s Viewpoint In the case study about the Bernie Madoff scandal, the author makes the point that the motivation to succeed in business can present a conflict with the fiduciary duty that a business person has to the client. There is question whether Madoff was motivated solely by greed, in which case he was engaged in a simple Ponzi scheme, or whether he used the Ponzi scheme to hide his failure to generate returns for his clients. Madoff s lack of transparency violated the trust of his clients, even if he did not initially intend to defraud his clients. There is some ethical ambiguity in this case. Two The most famous Ponzi scheme, and which gave rise to the term, involved Charles Ponzi s sale of international reply coupons to be reimbursed for postage stamps (Grossman, 2012). Like other schemes, Ponzi paid off investors with proceeds generated from newer investors. Ponzi s scheme is notable because it not only lost investor funds but also brought down six banks. However, this scheme was relatively small compared to the one launched by Allen Stanford, which defrauded investors of more than $7 billion, compared to Ponzi s $20 million. Three It is almost impossible to believe that Madoff s sons did not know about their father s fraud, and thus they were complicit ethically if not legally. They could have simply reviewed the investments that Madoff claimed to have made to generate the returns, which would have revealed no link between investor assets and the investments. Madoff would have had to prevent his sons from reviewing any of the transactions. Madoff s sons not knowing of their father s scheme may be far fetched, since his sons were directly involved in trading as the Director of Trading and Director of Proprietary Trading. In the recent past, there has been an ongoing battle between conservancies and the local communities. Dozens of people have been killed or injured. Research Problem Isiolo already suffers high levels of inter communal and ethno political conflict. Conservancies in Isiolo are increasing as each ethnic groupcalls for its own conservancy. They may fail to benefit and empower pastoralists as much as promised. They may interfere with existing structures for land management. Some women believe that while the hijab allowed women in the past to engage in public society without garnering attention, the headscarf in contemporary Western society brings more attention to women and is thus contradictory to its original purpose. Others believe that the hijab and other external practices have become inappropriately central to the practice of Islam, and instead choose to focus on their internal and spiritual relationship with God.While some women might choose not to wear the hijab, most Muslim women agree that it is a woman s choice whether or not she wears the hijab. • 43. The Devastation Of Hurricane Katrina The devastation of Hurricane Katrina on the city of New Orleans sparked a national conversation about who, or what, to blame for the disaster. There were inherent problems in how the chain of command was structured for the response to the disaster, and issues with how the plan was implemented. Furthermore, since the hurricane disproportionately devastated low income and predominately African American neighborhoods, many questioned the equity of the implementation plans. Additionally, historical causes for the disaster could not be overlooked. The history of racial housing segregation and the embrace of leveepolicies that endangered the city were also reasons why many blamed the federal and state governments for not anticipating the disaster... Since the city has already bought into this concept extensively, increasing the height and durability of the levees might be easier than creating a new system. In addition, this plan might be viewed favorably by the Trump administration, which is eager to invest in infrastructure projects. Actors that might object to this plan include the EPA and the people of New Orleans. This is because even if the levee system were expanded, the system would continue to negatively impact the wetlands and could potentially lead to larger problems in the future. Additionally, those living in New Orleans who experienced the failure of the levees during Hurricane Katrina might be wary to see a reinvestment in the system.
