Abstract
We are language teachers and should be teaching language, not
wasting time watching our learners struggle with pronunciation
which we all know they find boring. Living and working here, we
become inured to and sometimes over-tolerant of substandard
pronunciation, which doesn't necessarily mean sounding like a native
speaker. But how many times have we accepted walk for woke, cut
for cat and berry for very? It's not always easy to diagnose the cause
of our students' pronunciation problems, much less propose an
adequate solution. In this session, for teachers of teens and adults,
we won't be doing any choral drilling but we'll take a look at a range
of non-threatening classroom strategies and techniques that can
help students identify and overcome their pronunciation difficulties.
This workshop looks at a number of accessible ways we can work on
in and out of class to help improve our learners' pronunciation by
providing them activities which we can use in our language classes.
You will find practical in class activities and enjoyable online digital
games to integrate pronunciation teaching to your lessons.

Sciennes Global Goals Week Assembly 27.9.18
On Friday 28th September 2018, we celebrated Global Goals Week for the third time since their launch in 2015. We looked at what action is already taking place at Sciennes to support the Sustainable Development Global Goals (SDGs) and how we can take further action.
We also spoke to the children about how they can help improve our school. This session we are trialling Learner Participation groups in P4-7 and we invited all children to take part in one of six school improvement groups, linked to our school improvement plan. Committees will be formed for each of the six groups who will meet with lead teachers throughout the year while the wider body of about sixty pupils in each group will meet together a few times throughout the year. The older children will also work with P1-P3 to seek their views.

Sciennes Red Nose Day P4-7 Assembly 24.3.17
On Friday 24th March 2017 Sciennes celebrated Red Nose Day with a whole school Comedy Festival, designed to develop confidence in public speaking and as part of our Health and Wellbeing programme, in support of Comic Relief. We watched a film about 12 year old Hassan from Sierra Leone and found out how Comic Relief has supported him return to school following the Ebola crisis.
Generous donations and support for P6 led bake sales, friendship bracelet, bath bombs and keyring sales as well as P7 Comedy Book and Red Noses sales have helped our school community to come together to make a difference to others, in the UK and abroad. Thank you.
Some of our pupil jokers took to the stage at Assembly to share funny stories, knock-knock jokes, slapstick and one-liners. Thank you to everyone who took part and will receive a special Red Nose Day certificate next week.
Our P7 House and Sports Captains celebrated many recent pupil achievements and P7 Sports Captain, Robert, reported on recent runaway Cross Country success.
The Evening News took a photograph yesterday which is on Page 17 of today's newspaper and another photograph taken today will appear in tomorrow's edition.

We must make every effort to make the concert experience rewarding for our young performers and our audience. To show appreciation for our young performers and other audience members, we must strive to be conscious of our actions in a concert setting. Here are some points to consider as an audience member…
- 4. Audience Expectations at Concerts The audience should remain seated throughout the entire performance. Applause is appropriate at concerts Whistling, and yelling is not appropriate in a performance setting. Conversation is not appropriate while a group is performing. Small children and young siblings are always welcome at performances. We would ask that you keep younger children seated with you at all times. If children become restless, you are welcome to step out in the hallway at appropriate times. Hold applause until you are certain a selection is over.
