Pursuing A Career Personal Statement
To the admission committee,
Like many of the children growing up in a struggling socioeconomic community, I wanted to obtain a
profession that would change my family dynamics, serve my community, and make my parents proud.
Most children have dreams of becoming a doctor, lawyer, policemen, or firefighter. Although, they are
prideful professions, I had visions of a career that rarely came up in daily conversation. If fact, it was
so far from the mainstream during that time, high school guidance counselor were tasked to seek out
possible candidates for the career field. I was selected as one of the prospects for a career that not
many children in my neighborhood spoke of. As an 11th grader, I was invited to attend a two week

I collaborated with a team of engineers on new product development and introduction of computer

entity. However, one aspect of the industry never changes, the importance place on quality. I worked
in the area of Test and Product Platform Validation (PPV) at Intel. The need for testing during product
development is crucial. However, to encounter issues at PPV is problematic and can have a
catastrophic outcome. Studies have revealed that many issues are avoidable and virtually non existing
with the proper education. Having the opportunity to work in the industry under a Fortune 500
company has shown me the importance of quality, furthermore, the significance of quality education.
It is a major reason why I am seeking to expand my knowledge in the career field and Syracuse

Teaching And Learning For Students
Many school systems believe that the only effective way for students to learn is through direct
instruction. This isn t the only way, but it is the most common way throughout America. Direct
instruction is the easiest way for teachers to instruct to a whole group and students are used to this
type of instruction. But that style of teaching isn t exactly the best way for students to learn and retain
information. One of the most effective ways for students to learn is through differentiated instruction.
Differentiated instruction is a framework for effective teaching that involves providing different
students with different avenues to learn. This style of instruction allows for the curriculum to adapt to
certain needs and interests of individual students. (Bravmann) Making this instruction one of the most
effective styles of teaching. It also gives both the teachers and the students more of an opportunity to
learn in different ways that will help them to be successful in the long run. Since this type of
instruction involves a ton of work many teachers don t use it because they don t have the time but it is
really worth the time, especially for the students who don t learn like everyone else when it comes to
direct instruction. One of the best examples of differentiated instruction comes from The Ron Clark
film which is about who is a man from North Carolina who moved to New York and had the chance to
change the lives of students through differentiated instruction. He

Dulce Decorum Est Tone
Wilfred Owen accomplishes a wide array of different objectives in his poem De Dulce Decorum Est
through his word choice, tone, and vivid imagery. Using a destitute tone consistently throughout the
first stanza, Owen creates a specific atmosphere. Giving objects life through extensive personification,
and comparing them through many similes. Owen also gives us a clear depiction of how he saw war,
being a soldier himself against the backdrop of WWI, Owen had a strong opposition to war and
suffered himself from shell shock. A portion of his poem in the last stanza is a direct reference to
Jessie Pope, a pro war poet. In the first stanza, the entire tone is dreary and completely void of any
positive qualities. Owen utilizes many sensory devices to give us a specific and intended feeling of
how the soldiers feel and to the extent of how exhausted they are. He creates vivid imagery through ...

his dreams the sight of the man suffocating on chlorine gas. In the fourth stanza, Owen begins by
writing in some smothering dreams you too could pace (17) reinforcing that he lives this memory in
his dreams, and that the closest someone who hasn t had their experience of war could truly
understand is through some horrific dream. The last stanza is a reference to the work of Jessie Pope, a
pro war time poet whose writing encouraged young men to join the war. Furthermore, Owen uses
many sensory devices in the last stanza, such as If you could hear, at every jolt the blood / Come

Anorectoplasty Essay
Definitive management of male rectourethral fistula
Historically, there have been many surgical techniques to repair anorectal malformations. These
include endorectal dissection, anterior perineal approaches, and many different types of anoplasties
However, most pediatric surgeons now use the posterior sagittal approach to repair these
malformations with or without laparotomy or laparoscopy ( Levitt and Pena, 2006). Posterior sagittal
anorectoplasty (PSARP) as described by pena and levitt ( Levitt and Pena, 2014):
A Foley catheter is inserted and the patient is placed in prone position with the pelvis elevated. The
incision is a posterior sagittal one, in between both buttocks, running from the middle portion of the
sacrum down to the anal dimple, which is electrically determined. The incision goes through skin,
subcutaneous tissue, parasagittal fibres, muscle complex and levator muscle. When the surgeon is

These multiple sutures serve the purpose of exerting uniform traction on the rectal mucosa to facilitate
the separation of the rectum from the urinary tract. The fascia that covers the rectum is removed,
creating the lateral planes of the rectum. The mucosa of the anterior rectal wall distal to the multiple
6/0 silk sutures is divided about 1 mm deep. The dissection continues between the rectum and urinary
tract in a submucosal plane for approximately 5 10 mm and then gradually becomes a full thickness
dissection, looking at the lateral planes until the rectum is completely separated from the urinary tract.
The separation of the urethra from the rectum is the most delicate part of the operation. Most of the
serious complications occur during this part of the procedure. The fistula site is closed with three or

Phineas And Ferb Character Analysis
Phineas and Ferb is a children s television show that is played on the Disney Channel. The show is
about two step brothers, Phineas and Ferb, who are out of school for the summer and are in need of
activities to do during the day. The two boys always feel they have the need to do something new
every day of the summer. They always end up doing something extremely unrealistic and the activities
are almost always dangerous, especially if they were to be performed in real life. Their older sister,
Candace, is always trying to get the boys in trouble for the things that they are doing. There is also a
sub plot to this show which consists of the boys pet, Perry the Platypus, who is an undercover spy who

I find this to be a big problem. With the representation of no special needs children, this only sends the
message to kids watching this show that only people without disabilities can perform activities. With
there being no view on this at all, this show missed out on a big platform to be able to show that
people with disabilities can do a lot of the things that others can do. Even though the idea of the show
is based around completely unrealistic events and activities, I would have included some sort of
representation of people with disabilities to show that they can do a lot of the same things that people
without disabilities can do. Including people with disabilities would have been a great way to show
children how to be accepting of people with disabilities and teach them that it is important to look past
someone s specific physical or intellectual disability. In one episode, the boys make a beach in their
backyard and invite the entire neighborhood to come and attend a big beach bash. The boys also create
the roller coaster and have a lot of people come ride it. In society, people with disabilities go to the
beach and are able to attend amusement parks; I think it would have been a great thing to include
someone with a disability and show how they are able to be accepted amongst kids. This show targets

Process Essay On Wakeboarding
Most people who want to try out wakeboarding will have had some experience with water sport in
general. They know the speed and adrenaline of speeding across the water while holding on to the
back of a speed boat. Although, there might be a rare person who doesn t have experience, but after
seeing a wakeboarder, it awakens their curiosity.
The wakeboarder is strapped to the board with bindings much like a skiier on a mountain places their
feet into bindings. They hold onto a rope and are pulled behind the speedboat. They do spins, turns
and flips using the wake behind the boat as a water ramp. The sport has been around since the 1980s,
but officially became an event when sports organizers started staging televised events on ESPN.

There are also board tips to worry about when purchasing your first wakeboard. If you are familiar
with other board sports, you ll know that there are single and twin tip boards. Ones with a single tip
have a front that is tapered but a back that is square. This doesn t allow for flips or turns where the
rider can skim the water backwards.
While beginner s boards are normally cheaper than those for advanced riders, you might want to
consider a short board with twin tips if you plan on learning to perform tricks. On the other hand, if
you don t have any knowledge of boards at all, stick with a beginner board while you re learning to
stay on top of the water.
What Influences Your Choice of Wakeboard?
Once you ve decided on the tips and length of board, you re not done making decisions. The length isn
t focused on short or long alone. There are degrees of length to consider. You ll need to decide on the
board s rocker, the materials and fins as well as other factors.
Board Length
The length of the board is influenced by the weight of the rider and their riding style. A rider who
weighs under 150 pounds will need to choose a short length under 134

Trichotillomania Onset Pregnancy
Introduction:
Trichotillomania is characterized by recurrent episodes of hair pulling behavior leading to noticeable
loss of hair, increasing tension before hair pulling or while coping with the urge to pull out hair, taking
pleasure or a sense of relief while pulling out hair, and social, occupational, and functional
impairment1.
Trichotillomania can involve any area in the body; however, the most common areas are the scalp,
followed by the eyebrows and eyelashes in children and in adults2. The seriousness of the pulling
behavior is perceived over time, and the disease exhibits a chronic course and it is resistant to
therapy3. It has been reported that patients with trichotillomania often did not feel pain while pulling
out hair, followed a particular pattern of hair pulling, and often chose strands with unusual appearance,
and exhibit repetitive behavior such as engaging oral stimulation after hair pulling4 5. Some studies
have suggested that trichotillomania had many common features with obsessive compulsive disorder4
5.Here we discuss a patient with trichotillomania onset pregnanacy case.
Case :
KD is a 19 years old female, married, secondary school graduate who is currently unemployed. The
patient was admitted to the juvenile outpatient clinic accompanied by her parents with the complaints
of anxiety and pulling out eyebrow that lasted for 2 weeks. It was realized that the patient did not have
similar past complaints, or she has not been admitted to the psychiatry

The Theory Of A Paradigm Shift
Traditionally, the scientific community viewed progress developing cumulatively within a framework
of accepted facts. However in The Structure of Scientific Revolution, Thomas S. Kuhn argues science
also advances episodically rather than only continuously. Kuhn creates the concept of paradigm shifts
that changed science by transforming fundamental structures. Although Kuhn only attributes
paradigms shifts to natural sciences, many have applied this idea to other fields. In Discipline and
Punish, Michel Foucault analyzes the rapid shifts in penal systems and the larger social implications
of such change. Foucault attributes the rise of prisons due to modifications in perceptions about
punishment and power. These reformations mirror paradigm shifts, since they fundamentally change
existing frameworks. Both Kuhn and Foucault demonstrate the importance of structural changes in the
history of ideas. To prove this claim, I will explain Kuhn s idea of a paradigm shift and relate it to
Foucault s analysis of how modern prisons emerged. In order to understand paradigm shifts, one must
look at normal science and how its impact on the scientific community. Kuhn defines normal science
as research firmly based upon one or more past scientific achievements, achievements that some
particular scientific community acknowledges for a time as supplying the foundation for its further
practice (Kuhn 10). Normal science builds facts and knowledge within a set of guidelines, or
paradigms.

Good Vs Evil In Beowulf
The constant battle between good and evil rages still rages. Good rests upon a pedestal, surrounded by
the amazing holy light from above. It remains in the positive light, often being looked up to and
sometimes even applauded. On the other hand, evil fails to maintain the same respect and honor as
good. Evil remains surrounded by the darkness. It lingers around every corner, waiting for the next
chance to seduce anyones mind and soul at any given moment. It waits for the chance to bring havoc
into one s life ,but right as the chance comes, good emerges from the distance, right on time to
interfere with the evil scheme. The battle between good and evil never ends and becomes more violent
as each day passes. It occurs everywhere and all the time. The constant battle of good versus evil
remains proven by the epic poem Beowulf, the poem Good Vs Evil which shows the ongoing battle,
and the Holy Bible that shows evidence that this battle of good and evil has always existed. The epic
poem Beowulf contains a courageous hero. He embodies the side of good and epitomizes the
characteristics of a hero. He runs into multiple perilous battles against gruesome monsters. These
monsters include ones such as Grendel, Grendel s Mother, and the fire breathing dragon. The monsters
symbolize a life filled with darkness, evil, and sin. The first monster Beowulf comes to slaughter goes
by the name of Grendel. He was a [monster] born of cain, murderous creatures banished by God (20

Examples Of Honesty In Othello
Othello written by William Shakespeare is a play centered around the theme of fidelity and honesty. In
Iago s own words during act 2 scene 1 lines 223 248. The main villain in this story, Iago is driven by
the way women act. Iago is the main villain throughout the story, he is very twisted in the web of lies
he strings to manipulate the purity of people. His actions are motived by the jealousy of a main
character Cassio, and the anger through his story of an affair between Othello and his wife.
In Iago s speech, he speaks about the relationship between Othello and Desdemona in the sense that
she will one day get tired of Othello and move on to someone better. He expresses how easily she fell

The act of honesty is repeated throughout the story line of Othello, but in different ways. There is
honesty in the commitment of a relationship, honesty between two people, honesty in the truth about
the true character. When Iago is speaking with Roderigo in the speech, his shows honesty with the
idea of Desdemona falling for another guy. In the rest of the story Iago shows to other people that he is
an honest man who people can trust and depend on. Though anyone who is reading the book can
easily see that none of what he says to expresses to other people is truly honest. Affected by the
jealousy of Cassio getting the position, Iago is angered to make a plan to get the position instead of
Cassio. First proving that Cassio is not fit, then pinning an affair between Cassio and Othello s wife
Desdemona. He pins little details like a handkerchief that Othello gave Desdemona, in Cassio s, then
brought Othello to see that. Once he has Othello believing his wife was cheating on him, Iago misses
that his own wife isn t necessarily on his side. Iago s wife Emelia ends up telling everyone the truth,
sadly after Othello does go unhinged and kills Desdemona. In the end the story shows that love and
honesty go hand in hand. Dishonesty makes love grow weak, like it did between Desdemona and
Othello. Iago s actions were majorly punishable by death, not getting him what he had wanted. He
manipulated so many people in efforts to get a single position, but ruins everyone s life around him
without having a single care about what he is doing. The idea of honesty is repeated to dramatize the
idea of what happens when honesty is betrayed. If Iago were to have been an honest man, he wouldn t
have made the people around him

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Software Virtualization (DHL)

The Importance Of The Battle Of Midway
Why was the battle of Midway so crucial? On the 4th of June in 1942 started the victorious win of the
Americans that was soon to begin World War II! It was quite an amazing battle because the Japanese
should have won, but the Americans out smarted them, hacking naval codes, being ready, and being
where they needed to be at the right time. The Americans took down the Japanese keeping control of
Midway. The battle of Midway between the Americans and the Japanese was the most decisive naval
battle in history it was the turning point because it brought the Americans into the forefront of the war
that eventually helped defeat Hitler.
The Japanese Threat During the time between Pearl Harbor and Midway, the Americans attacked
Japan several times and Japan decided to strike back at Midway. Following Pearl Harbor, Germany
announced war with America; however; it was not an instant arrangement, that is why Midway came
first. Franklin Roosevelt, the president at the time, saw Germany as a bigger threat than Japan

It was a battle between the Americans and Japanese that happened on the 4th of June in 1942. To the

this was the most decisive naval warfare in history (Ballard, 1999). Because the Japanese had so many
more forces, they were expected to win (Wildenberg,2006). Midway was selected by Yamamoto
because he wanted a larger area to protect Japan, he figured it would be better for them because it is
closer to Japan not America. He also knew that America would try to protect it with their aircrafts so
they were prepared (Krasner, 2014). Although, Admiral Nimitz of the United States Navy said that the

Using bones, teeth and joints for reconstructing activity...
During an individual s lifetime the activities they involve themselves in impact on their many bodily
tissues. Markers for these activities are left in the bones, joints and dentition which is useful for
anthropologists as only skeletal material is left in the case of most ancient populations. Subsequently
much research has been undertaken in this area with varying levels of validity. In this essay I seek to
explain what information can be reliably gathered from skeletal material, it will focus on bone density
and muscle attachments associated with heavy workloads, joint wear caused by repeated processes
such as grinding grain, osteoarthritis and tooth wear associated with tool use. To aid this discussion I
will detail the activity changes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Food gathering, butchering and carrying materials for fires and temporary shelters are all fairly short
but high intensity physical exercise. Subsequently in hunter gatherer populations there is a trend in the
archaeological record for higher bone density and greater cortical bone thickness in cross section
(Maggiano et al, 2008). The opposite is true of agricultural societies of the past. Activities involved
with agriculture are often slow, repetitive low load level tasks such as weeding, sowing seeds and the
picking and harvesting of crops (Bridges, 1989). These activities are mainly upper body activities and
are more commonly associated with joint wear and osteoarthritis, which I will mention later. Muscle
attachments are the sites on the bone where ligaments are anchored, these may become exaggerated in
individuals with larger than average musculature. Based on the crude argument that hunter gatherers
used leg muscles in day to day activities and agricultural peoples used their upper body in activity
more it stands to reason that the respective muscle attachments would be enlarged. Molnar for
example attempts to trace general as well as three specific prehistoric activities: archery, harpooning,
and kayaking that are likely to have been performed in past populations from the Baltic sea area using

Games Design As Narrative Architecture By Henry Jenkins
Narrative research
Introduction
Games and story, which on opposite sides of the interactivity. After reading a paper named Games
Design as Narrative Architecture by Henry Jenkins, I think controlling the balance of gameplay and
storytelling is important to game designers if they want to design a game with narrative. For this essay
I will be analysing two completely different examples, focusing on their narrative and gameplay in
order to explain this issue. In addition to this, I will also provide some games I have played and
combine the theories in this paper and other books to analyse their different ways to create immersive
narrative experience in the game.
What is narrative? Confliction of narrative and gameplay
Narrative, or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Storytelling is one of the most important forms of play indeed (Crawford, 2013), however not every
player would like to read story in games, they enjoy the process of achieving goal, too much narrative
even can be experienced as an unwelcome interruption (Jenkins, 2004). In order to avoid this
situation, game designer should using environmental storytelling in various ways to build a game
space which full of narrative. So players can enjoy the game itself and narrative in same time.
Here is an example, which is not positive but can demonstrate the importance of keeping balance of
game and narrative. Ensemble Star is a Japanese smartphone game, which I have played for one year.
Its narrative is completely attractive and impressed, however, its experience of gameplay is very
inconspicuous. Players only need to read stories, spend money to get cards and collect items to
strengthen their cards. Players can make some choices, but their choices cannot cause serious
consequences to the overall stories. So strictly speaking, I think it is not a game but a novel with
interactive function. Yet, its Chinese version add some game mechanics and blend into game story,
which makes this interactive novel more like a game. For example, every character have their back
stories. In Japanese version, players only can tap stories button to read. But in Chinese

What was the cause(s) of Mrs. Hayes s renal failure?
Acute renal failure occurs quickly over a period of days or weeks with a reduction in GFR and
elevation of BUN, plasma creatinine and crystatin C levels. Oliguria (urine output of lt; 30ml/hr or lt;
400 ml/day) is usually associated with ARF, although urine output may be normal or increased as well.
Fluid is still filtered at the glomerulus but there is an alteration in tubular secretion or reabsorption.
Most types of ARF are reversible if diagnosed and treated early (Perrin, 2009).
Prerenal acute renal failure accounts for 60% of cases of ARF is the most common cause of ARF and
is caused by impaired renal blood flow. The GFR drops because of the decrease in filtration pressure.
Poor perfusion can result from hypovolemia, hemorrhage, renal vasoconstricition, hypotension, or
inadequate cardiac output. This type of renal failure may occur when chronic renal failure exists if a
sudden stress is imposed on already marginally functioning kidneys. If blood volume or blood
pressure and oxygen delivery is not restored, cell injury and acute tubular necrosis or acute interstitial
necrosis may be caused (Perrin, 2009).
Intrarenal acute renal failure accounts for 30% to 40% of the cases of ARF generally results from
acute tubular necrosis due to disturbances within the glomerulus or renal tubules. ATN most often
occurs after surgery but is also associated with sepsis, severe trauma, including severe burns,

Two Meanings Of A Metaphorical Meaning
I believe this quote could have two meanings, a metaphorical meaning and a literally meaning. The
metaphorical meaning would be that Christians can make any location their home, but they do not fit
in at that location due to their faith. In addition, this temporary fatherland is just that, temporary, as
their eternal home is in heaven. The literal interpretation of this quote would be that as previous Jews,
now converted Christians, are spread out over a vast area of land they may no longer be in the
Promised Land, their fatherland. Jews were removed from the Promised Land when Babylon captured
them and brought them into exile, and they have been under oppression since that time by various
nations. For this reason, where they are currently

against immigrant and refugee women be prevented? Some of the ways Canada can protect and
welcome and protect refugees by; Making the status in Canada secure This means that Canada should
make permanent residency open to all including migrant workers. They should not restrict the

Case Study Of Robert E. Lee s Fight At Gettysburg
Robert E. Lee lost in Antietam, which lowered chances of convincing Great Britain to develop the
diplomatic region. Lee then decided to devise a plan that would scare the north. Lee s campaign was
working well, until Hooker was duplicating his tactics.
Hooker had suggested that since Lee was moving up north, he could go to Richmond, Virginia and
take it over.
Lincoln denied the plan and told Hooker to follow Lee and his men and defeat them.
Lee lacked a common strategy; his go to man Stuart had decided to go around the Union army to
gather information. Lee was helpless and had made a risky choice. On June 28th, Lee had found out
that the Union was closer than predicted and the case was starting to get out of hand.

How Not To Get Into College Essay
The Idea of Being Molded
The texts Manhood, by John Wain and How Not to Get Into College, by Alfie Kohn illustrate
similarities and differences that are directly related to the lives of people in today s society. Both texts
represent the idea of rigid social expectations challenging people to re evaluate their perspectives on
intrinsic happiness and to live up to others standards in order to gain approval of happiness, resulting
in extrinsic happiness. In Manhood , the rigid social expectations are portrayed thorough the
relationship between father and son and in How Not to Get into college they are portrayed through the
scenarios of students.
In their texts, Wain and Kohn demonstrate the importance of achieving intrinsic happiness. Often, ...

He tells his wife, I never did anything to develop my body...No son of mine is going to grow up with
the same miserable physical heritage (Wain 3). Evidently, this causes Rob to feel the pressure of
fulfilling his father s desires, since his father was not able to do so himself. In turn, Rob loses his
intrinsic happiness to relive his father s dreams of achieving physical heritage traits. Also, in the
Miami Herald newspaper by Cindy Krischer , the son says, ...Too much for my dad to run the business
alone. I felt a responsibility to take an active role . Again, similar to the character in Wain s, Manhood,
the son feels that he has to take on the role of his father. Next, Kohn s How Not to Get into College
demonstrates that there are constant expectations from teachers and parents of students. The author
displays sarcasm in his words when he says, Let grades control your life. (Kohn 1). He emphasizes
that by following these sets of guidelines, one sacrifices his/her own intrinsic happiness in order to
fulfill expectations set by others. Students often feel pressured when their parents or teachers

The constellation I have chosen to write about is Orion. This is one of the most famous constellations
in the night sky. I chose this one because as I stated, it is very famous, and because it is one of those
constellations that I have seen many times. Orion is a hunter, so the constellation shows a man holding
a club and shield. It is easily recognized by the three stars in a line that form the hunter s belt. The
myth of Orion is an interesting one. Orion was known as a hunter in Greek mythology, and he boasted
that he could defeat and kill any animal on Earth. This greatly angered Gaea, the earth goddess, so she
sent a small scorpion to kill Orion. Unable to shoot his arrows through the scorpion s armor, he ran

Johann left the Josef s group in 1825. Josef Lanner quickly became highly regarded and very popular
for his waltzes. He began giving concerts in the Vienna Volsgarten in 1831 and he conducted the
chamber ball in the Hofburg beginning in the year 1840. His music spread all over Europe and even to
the USA where it was very popular. His popularity eventually waned in the shadow of Johann Strauss.
Lanner composed the piece Die Mozartisten for the 15th anniversary of Mozart s death as a tribute.
The second piece I listened to was the Concierto Madrigal by Joaquin Rodrigo. The piece was very,
very long. As a listener, it was easy to tell there were many separate works or sections within this
piece. The overall feel was a Spanish theme with a lot of great guitar playing. As expressed by Oxford
Music Online, Joaquin Rodrigo became blind at the age of three and remained so until his death. He

Traditional Culture Vs. Lean In Health Care
Lean culture is the combination of defining customer value, aligning around a common purpose,
striving for perfection while at the same time respecting and developing employees (O Rourke, 2017).
A Lean culture is an important component of a lean program. It serves as the framework in which lean
tools and techniques are utilized. Without a receptive culture, the lean principles will fail. Leaders
must champion a lean environment aligned with the mission, vision and values of the healthcare
organization. In addition, leaders are tasked with creating an organization culture that is receptive to
lean thinking (Going Lean in Health Care, 2005).
A lean culture differs in many ways from traditional organizational culture. Since the traditional and
lean way vary widely, a conversion requires re conditioning of all those involved. The following table
shows the differences between a traditional and lean culture. Table 1. Traditional Culture versus Lean
Culture.
(Going Lean in Health Care, 2005).
A successful and sustainable lean culture requires new behaviors that start at the very top of the
organization. Leadership can drive the Lean culture change process by setting the behavioral
expectations. The behavior and actions will only produce a culture change if they are modeled from
top to bottom. Leaders must remain committed to the process as a new way of doing business
(Rubrich, 2017). They must constantly drive the same message, involve everyone and guide the

Cakewalk, and the Lindy Hop. There are very distinguished people such as James Brown, Gladys
Knight and the Pips, The Supremes, Michael Jackson and Prince along with many more. This gave me
a more insightful look on what happened through the history and how the evolution of music and

Through the different dances there has been a style change with how the dancers move within the
dance. As time goes on there appeared to be less and lesser clothing on the dancers. I have seen first
hand how dance styles changed through my life. The changes between what music is popular and how
to dance to the song. Throughout being taught at dance school, there were variations of provocatively
that certain dance styles would partake in. Jazz dance and hip hop were seen to be more of the risqué
dance forms that the costumes showed more skin. Is the changing of dance costumes being influenced
by what we see on music videos? Is it related to the stripper culture we ve spoken about in class?
Some of the changes have been drastic with the costumes or the choice of dance moves, but some are
very subtle such as liturgical or modern dances that have had much of a change in the culture of the
dance. This show glorifies how dancing can be made into whatever the dancer wants it to be. I found
this movie beneficial because it let me think more intimately with my paper topic about clogging.

Summary Of Harm De Blij s Why Geography Matters
Harm de Blij s book, Why Geography Matters poses a central theme, which I have heard discussed
multiple times. Blij argues that the American public is the most geographically illiterate society in the
world. Blij blames this decline with the poorly formulated curricula in the American school systems,
which ultimately originates from Washington D.C. and the people that run this country. If I had never
seen this central theme in action in a classroom I would have been dumbfounded. In one short
paragraph Blij summarized how America s illiteracy began, which this then becomes the central theme
of his book that relates to the educational field. Blij writes that professional educators took control of
the system and combined the subjects of history, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As every day passes China grows stronger in every aspect and eventually they will be knocking on
America s doorstep in each of those categories. Economically, China is closing rapidly, but even the
sleeping giant as Napoleon Bonaparte called it, has its limits. To be blunt, China is resource hungry
and who knows what their country will do next. With the level of nationalism that their people have,
China could go in multiple directions. For example, let us look at both China attempting to exert
control over the South China Sea and also with the Senkaku Islands. Both of these areas are becoming
more and more hostile, which ultimately could lead to deadly military engagements. With that being
said, Blij also proposes an argument that I have been pondering for a while and that is a potential cold
war between the U.S.A. and China. On the outside it seems as if there is a potential collision course to
that conclusion. However, Blij does offer an interesting solution to this possibility and it is one that I
believe should be the strongest takeaway. Blij suggests that trade, scientific, cultural and educational
links and exchanges can be the solution to this issue. After all, China is responsible for many of the
essential aspects to our life. Therefore, the least we as Americans can do is learn the various
geographical aspects that encircle

All states grant probation and parole officers the power of arrest and search and seizure as those

Essay Comparing Frankenstein And The Picture Of Dorian Gray
Creators are the Real Monsters Mary Shelley s Frankenstein and Oscar Wilde s The Picture of Dorian
Gray both have a creator and a monster; however, the books contain two different opinions of what it
means to be monstrous, in which Henry realizes his power over Dorian and Frankenstein abandons his
creation. These creations had no choice in the way they turned out because they were made and
molded by their creators, which in turn makes the creators that gave them life the real monsters. The
works of Frankenstein and The Picture of Dorian Gray give clear warnings to a creator foretelling that
if they fail to be responsible in providing their own creation with an appropriate upbringing, The
Creation will fail and thus turn into a monster. Mary Shelley tells the story of a scientist named Victor

The recent wealth of data should give us more confidence in a cause and effect relationship, but we
are not nearly to the point of proof. It took decades and hundreds of studies before the Surgeon
General was willing to declare that smoking causes cancer.] But it has been less clear just how alcohol
works to protect the body against heart disease and death. A new study from researchers at the
University Hospital of Zurich, Switzerland. identifies a mechanism for how alcohol favorably effects
arterial muscle cells. According to Wilhelm Vetter, M.D., and colleagues, alcohol, when consumed
around mealtime, reduces the proliferation of smooth muscle cells (SMC) within the arteries. SMC
growth is a key element in the development of atherosclerosis, which commonly leads to heart attacks
and strokes.
The study found that the ingestion of alcohol equivalent to two glasses of wine with a high fat meal
resulted in a 20% decrease in the growth of arterial muscle cells. Several researchers have suggested
that the apparent health benefits of wine ingested at mealtime may be due to the ability of alcohol and
other phenolic compounds in wine to counter adverse effects of fatty foods during the critical
digestive phase. Renaud has written of the positive effect of wine during meals on platelet
aggregation, finding that wine consumed with meals is absorbed more slowly and thus has a

Globalisation and China’s Environmental Problems Essay
Is the lifestyle of people in Europe and the USA a major cause of China s environmental problems?
One of China s best successes has in turn been one of its biggest downfalls. One of the main problems
is China s greatest success which has been its phenomenal economic growth. This is one of the main
drivers of the current environmental problems that the country faces. Factories dump pollutants into
the air and water. It is difficult to see the Chinese government making the significant sacrifices
required to improve their environment if it means slowing down their economic growth.
In order to understand why China is in such environmental difficulties we need to understand why the

These two areas are a result of increased industrialisation to keep up with the rapid growth in Chinas
export. One major external driver is outside influences such as the US, by the demanding lower
products and goods, manufacturers are forced to reduce any environmental safeguards that they had in
place. An example of this is when a textiles mill in southern China was caught dumping 22,000 tons of
contaminated water from its dyeing operation each day turning the whole river dark red. Another
driver behind behaviour such as this is the ever growing discount clothing chain stores. Prices on
fabric and clothing have fallen by 25% since 1995 and the particular article this was taken from was
put together back in 2007. The discount clothing giants have become even more cut throat and
competitive over the last few years. This behaviour is what has made China a huge export giant but
has cost them so much more. The inflated prices you may pay elsewhere take into consideration the
cost of manufacturing and all the other associated costs in production and safe removal of industrial
waste. From China a great deal of the time you are paying simply for the product or service and not to
cover the costs of environmental safeguard.
By 2006 there were 6000 registered environmental groups in China. They are growing in numbers,
influence and assertiveness. These groups are made up of people that are now beginning to understand
the consequences of rapid growth and

genetics, different brain chemicals, environment, behavior management at school v. home, drug abuse,
and exposure to toxins from an early age. In 1993 Thom Hartmann proposed the hunter farmer theory
of ADHD in his book Attention Deficit Disorder A Different Perception . In this theory he states that
back in time, approximately 10,000 year ago, before farming and agriculture was a part of everyday
life, people needed hunters to provide food. These hunters possessed specialized survival traits: hyper
focus for short intense periods of time, an ability to be distractible scanning the horizon for game or
threats, and a necessity to be completely in the moment . Though farming did exist, it was not as wide
scale as it is today, and the need for hunters was much greater. (Ferguson) Diagnosis and Treatment
ADHD is identified by using a diagnostic interview method. It is important that the study of the child
being diagnosed include the history covering their present symptoms, an opposing diagnosis,
comorbid conditions, as well as medical, developmental, school, psychosocial, and family histories. It
is also recommended to explore the reason for a request for evaluation of ADHD in the first place, as
well as the different methods of treatment that had been used in the past. This test is not only unique to
ADHD, it is also used in diagnosing other mental disorders such as schizophrenia and autism.

How Beer Has Changed Our Side, Time
Beer has been around longer than a few countries today. It has a lot more history to it than one might
believe, for example, Raley states that Historians speculate that prehistoric nomads may have made
beer from grain water before learning to make bread. (Raley 1998) Despite that speculation no person
can deny the time and effort has been put to perfecting a fine brew. Brewing beer can be very
rewarding however it does requires time, the right ingredients, and most importantly the complex
steps to create the perfect beer. Unfortunately for brew masters one of the most important pieces to
crafting the perfect beverage is not on our side, time. As John Palmer explains in his instructional
book How to Brew The primary phase for ales is often 2 5 days, but 1 3 weeks is normal for a lager.
(Palmer, 2006) what he is referring to is the time from the boiling process to turn your ingredients
(which we will talk about shortly) to the long fermentation stages, and finally racking and bottling.
There are unofficial sources claiming to have some ales done in less than a week while some lagers
were said to take over a year. The most crucial and potentially most dangerous stages all involve the
uncertainty of time. A task such as bottling your brew too early can cause an eruption of the bottle

  • 2. Pursuing A Career Personal Statement To the admission committee, Like many of the children growing up in a struggling socioeconomic community, I wanted to obtain a profession that would change my family dynamics, serve my community, and make my parents proud. Most children have dreams of becoming a doctor, lawyer, policemen, or firefighter. Although, they are prideful professions, I had visions of a career that rarely came up in daily conversation. If fact, it was so far from the mainstream during that time, high school guidance counselor were tasked to seek out possible candidates for the career field. I was selected as one of the prospects for a career that not many children in my neighborhood spoke of. As an 11th grader, I was invited to attend a two week seminar at the ... The computer industry is a fast pace, forever changing and expanding entity. However, one aspect of the industry never changes, the importance place on quality. I worked in the area of Test and Product Platform Validation (PPV) at Intel. The need for testing during product development is crucial. However, to encounter issues at PPV is problematic and can have a catastrophic outcome. Studies have revealed that many issues are avoidable and virtually non existing with the proper education. Having the opportunity to work in the industry under a Fortune 500 company has shown me the importance of quality, furthermore, the significance of quality education. It is a major reason why I am seeking to expand my knowledge in the career field and Syracuse University is ranked in the top 25 schools to obtain an online MS degree in Computer Science by ... • 3. Teaching And Learning For Students Many school systems believe that the only effective way for students to learn is through direct instruction. This isn t the only way, but it is the most common way throughout America. Direct instruction is the easiest way for teachers to instruct to a whole group and students are used to this type of instruction. But that style of teaching isn t exactly the best way for students to learn and retain information. One of the most effective ways for students to learn is through differentiated instruction. Differentiated instruction is a framework for effective teaching that involves providing different students with different avenues to learn. This style of instruction allows for the curriculum to adapt to certain needs and interests of individual students. (Bravmann) Making this instruction one of the most effective styles of teaching. It also gives both the teachers and the students more of an opportunity to learn in different ways that will help them to be successful in the long run. Since this type of instruction involves a ton of work many teachers don t use it because they don t have the time but it is really worth the time, especially for the students who don t learn like everyone else when it comes to direct instruction. One of the best examples of differentiated instruction comes from The Ron Clark film which is about who is a man from North Carolina who moved to New York and had the chance to change the lives of students through differentiated instruction. • 4. Dulce Decorum Est Tone Wilfred Owen accomplishes a wide array of different objectives in his poem De Dulce Decorum Est through his word choice, tone, and vivid imagery. Using a destitute tone consistently throughout the first stanza, Owen creates a specific atmosphere. Giving objects life through extensive personification, and comparing them through many similes. Owen also gives us a clear depiction of how he saw war, being a soldier himself against the backdrop of WWI, Owen had a strong opposition to war and suffered himself from shell shock. A portion of his poem in the last stanza is a direct reference to Jessie Pope, a pro war poet. In the first stanza, the entire tone is dreary and completely void of any positive qualities. Owen utilizes many sensory devices to give us a specific and intended feeling of how the soldiers feel and to the extent of how exhausted they are. He creates vivid imagery through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Owen writes that In all my dreams, before my helpless sight, / He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning. (15 16) again referencing to the first stanza of being blind, but being able to recall in all of his dreams the sight of the man suffocating on chlorine gas. In the fourth stanza, Owen begins by writing in some smothering dreams you too could pace (17) reinforcing that he lives this memory in his dreams, and that the closest someone who hasn t had their experience of war could truly understand is through some horrific dream. The last stanza is a reference to the work of Jessie Pope, a pro war time poet whose writing encouraged young men to join the war. Furthermore, Owen uses many sensory devices in the last stanza, such as If you could hear, at every jolt the blood / Come gargling forth (21 22) to give almost an audible sensation for the reader, and to give reinforcement to the horror that the men will have to face once going to ... These include endorectal dissection, anterior perineal approaches, and many different types of anoplasties However, most pediatric surgeons now use the posterior sagittal approach to repair these malformations with or without laparotomy or laparoscopy ( Levitt and Pena, 2006). Posterior sagittal anorectoplasty (PSARP) as described by pena and levitt ( Levitt and Pena, 2014): A Foley catheter is inserted and the patient is placed in prone position with the pelvis elevated. The incision is a posterior sagittal one, in between both buttocks, running from the middle portion of the sacrum down to the anal dimple, which is electrically determined. The incision goes through skin, subcutaneous tissue, parasagittal fibres, muscle complex and levator muscle. These multiple sutures serve the purpose of exerting uniform traction on the rectal mucosa to facilitate the separation of the rectum from the urinary tract. The fascia that covers the rectum is removed, creating the lateral planes of the rectum. The mucosa of the anterior rectal wall distal to the multiple 6/0 silk sutures is divided about 1 mm deep. The dissection continues between the rectum and urinary tract in a submucosal plane for approximately 5 10 mm and then gradually becomes a full thickness dissection, looking at the lateral planes until the rectum is completely separated from the urinary tract. Even though the idea of the show is based around completely unrealistic events and activities, I would have included some sort of representation of people with disabilities to show that they can do a lot of the same things that people without disabilities can do. Including people with disabilities would have been a great way to show children how to be accepting of people with disabilities and teach them that it is important to look past someone s specific physical or intellectual disability. • 10. The Theory Of A Paradigm Shift Traditionally, the scientific community viewed progress developing cumulatively within a framework of accepted facts. However in The Structure of Scientific Revolution, Thomas S. Kuhn argues science also advances episodically rather than only continuously. Kuhn creates the concept of paradigm shifts that changed science by transforming fundamental structures. Although Kuhn only attributes paradigms shifts to natural sciences, many have applied this idea to other fields. In Discipline and Punish, Michel Foucault analyzes the rapid shifts in penal systems and the larger social implications of such change. Foucault attributes the rise of prisons due to modifications in perceptions about punishment and power. These reformations mirror paradigm shifts, since they fundamentally change existing frameworks. Both Kuhn and Foucault demonstrate the importance of structural changes in the history of ideas. To prove this claim, I will explain Kuhn s idea of a paradigm shift and relate it to Foucault s analysis of how modern prisons emerged. In order to understand paradigm shifts, one must look at normal science and how its impact on the scientific community. Kuhn defines normal science as research firmly based upon one or more past scientific achievements, achievements that some particular scientific community acknowledges for a time as supplying the foundation for its further practice (Kuhn 10). Normal science builds facts and knowledge within a set of guidelines, or paradigms. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Subsequently in hunter gatherer populations there is a trend in the archaeological record for higher bone density and greater cortical bone thickness in cross section (Maggiano et al, 2008). The opposite is true of agricultural societies of the past. Activities involved with agriculture are often slow, repetitive low load level tasks such as weeding, sowing seeds and the picking and harvesting of crops (Bridges, 1989). These activities are mainly upper body activities and are more commonly associated with joint wear and osteoarthritis, which I will mention later. Muscle attachments are the sites on the bone where ligaments are anchored, these may become exaggerated in individuals with larger than average musculature. Based on the crude argument that hunter gatherers used leg muscles in day to day activities and agricultural peoples used their upper body in activity more it stands to reason that the respective muscle attachments would be enlarged. This greatly angered Gaea, the earth goddess, so she sent a small scorpion to kill Orion. Unable to shoot his arrows through the scorpion s armor, he ran into the sea to escape. During ... Evan Yip Professor Diaz MUHL 124 24 January 2017 Radio Assignment On Monday afternoon, January 23rd, I tuned into NPR and classical radio for the 3 4 pm hour of classical music. The radio host was Gigi Yellen who was very knowledgeable about the pieces she had in the playlist for that afternoon. In between pieces she would usually make a comment or two about some extra musical fact regarding the piece or composer. It was very interesting and I thoroughly enjoyed the hour of listening. There was not an expressed theme or organization to the playlist when I tuned in, so I had no preparation for the pieces that were to come. I actually enjoyed this position of surprise and anticipation because it left me with a completely open mind without ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Johann left the Josef s group in 1825. Josef Lanner quickly became highly regarded and very popular for his waltzes. He began giving concerts in the Vienna Volsgarten in 1831 and he conducted the chamber ball in the Hofburg beginning in the year 1840. His music spread all over Europe and even to the USA where it was very popular. His popularity eventually waned in the shadow of Johann Strauss. Lanner composed the piece Die Mozartisten for the 15th anniversary of Mozart s death as a tribute. The second piece I listened to was the Concierto Madrigal by Joaquin Rodrigo. The piece was very, very long. As a listener, it was easy to tell there were many separate works or sections within this piece. The overall feel was a Spanish theme with a lot of great guitar playing. As expressed by Oxford Music Online, Joaquin Rodrigo became blind at the age of three and remained so until his death. He lived almost exactly a century later than Josef Lanner. Joaquin was born in Sagunto on the 22nd of November in the year 1901. He studied music in France and married a Turkish pianist. Soon after his first composition entitled the Concierto de Aranjuez, he became widely recognized as a leading composer in Spain. He is accredited with an estimated 170 compositions, 11 of which are concertos. Towards the end of the 60 s, Rodrigo composed the Concierto Madrigal for two guitars. • 29. Traditional Culture Vs. Lean In Health Care Lean culture is the combination of defining customer value, aligning around a common purpose, striving for perfection while at the same time respecting and developing employees (O Rourke, 2017). A Lean culture is an important component of a lean program. It serves as the framework in which lean tools and techniques are utilized. Without a receptive culture, the lean principles will fail. Leaders must champion a lean environment aligned with the mission, vision and values of the healthcare organization. In addition, leaders are tasked with creating an organization culture that is receptive to lean thinking (Going Lean in Health Care, 2005). A lean culture differs in many ways from traditional organizational culture. Since the traditional and lean way vary widely, a conversion requires re conditioning of all those involved. The following table shows the differences between a traditional and lean culture. Table 1. Traditional Culture versus Lean Culture. (Going Lean in Health Care, 2005). A successful and sustainable lean culture requires new behaviors that start at the very top of the organization. Leadership can drive the Lean culture change process by setting the behavioral expectations. The behavior and actions will only produce a culture change if they are modeled from top to bottom. Leaders must remain committed to the process as a new way of doing business (Rubrich, 2017). They must constantly drive the same message, involve everyone and guide the cultural ... Throughout the show there were prominent dances such as the Charleston, Cakewalk, and the Lindy Hop. There are very distinguished people such as James Brown, Gladys Knight and the Pips, The Supremes, Michael Jackson and Prince along with many more. This gave me a more insightful look on what happened through the history and how the evolution of music and dances had cycled through. Through the different dances there has been a style change with how the dancers move within the dance. As time goes on there appeared to be less and lesser clothing on the dancers. I have seen first hand how dance styles changed through my life. The changes between what music is popular and how to dance to the song. Throughout being taught at dance school, there were variations of provocatively that certain dance styles would partake in. Jazz dance and hip hop were seen to be more of the risqué dance forms that the costumes showed more skin. Is the changing of dance costumes being influenced by what we see on music videos? Is it related to the stripper culture we ve spoken about in class? Some of the changes have been drastic with the costumes or the choice of dance moves, but some are very subtle such as liturgical or modern dances that have had much of a change in the culture of the dance. This show glorifies how dancing can be made into whatever the dancer wants it to be. I found this movie beneficial because it let me think more intimately with my paper topic about clogging. Blij argues that the American public is the most geographically illiterate society in the world. Blij blames this decline with the poorly formulated curricula in the American school systems, which ultimately originates from Washington D.C. and the people that run this country. If I had never seen this central theme in action in a classroom I would have been dumbfounded. In one short paragraph Blij summarized how America s illiteracy began, which this then becomes the central theme of his book that relates to the educational field. As every day passes China grows stronger in every aspect and eventually they will be knocking on America s doorstep in each of those categories. Economically, China is closing rapidly, but even the sleeping giant as Napoleon Bonaparte called it, has its limits. To be blunt, China is resource hungry and who knows what their country will do next. With the level of nationalism that their people have, China could go in multiple directions. For example, let us look at both China attempting to exert control over the South China Sea and also with the Senkaku Islands. Both of these areas are becoming more and more hostile, which ultimately could lead to deadly military engagements. With that being said, Blij also proposes an argument that I have been pondering for a while and that is a potential cold war between the U.S.A. and China. On the outside it seems as if there is a potential collision course to that conclusion. However, Blij does offer an interesting solution to this possibility and it is one that I believe should be the strongest takeaway. Blij suggests that trade, scientific, cultural and educational links and exchanges can be the solution to this issue. After all, China is responsible for many of the essential aspects to our life. Therefore, the least we as Americans can do is learn the various geographical aspects that encircle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It took decades and hundreds of studies before the Surgeon General was willing to declare that smoking causes cancer.] But it has been less clear just how alcohol works to protect the body against heart disease and death. A new study from researchers at the University Hospital of Zurich, Switzerland. identifies a mechanism for how alcohol favorably effects arterial muscle cells. According to Wilhelm Vetter, M.D., and colleagues, alcohol, when consumed around mealtime, reduces the proliferation of smooth muscle cells (SMC) within the arteries. SMC growth is a key element in the development of atherosclerosis, which commonly leads to heart attacks and strokes. The study found that the ingestion of alcohol equivalent to two glasses of wine with a high fat meal resulted in a 20% decrease in the growth of arterial muscle cells. Several researchers have suggested that the apparent health benefits of wine ingested at mealtime may be due to the ability of alcohol and other phenolic compounds in wine to counter adverse effects of fatty foods during the critical digestive phase. Renaud has written of the positive effect of wine during meals on platelet aggregation, finding that wine consumed with meals is absorbed more slowly and thus has a prolonged effect on blood ... One of China s best successes has in turn been one of its biggest downfalls. One of the main problems is China s greatest success which has been its phenomenal economic growth. This is one of the main drivers of the current environmental problems that the country faces. Factories dump pollutants into the air and water. One major external driver is outside influences such as the US, by the demanding lower products and goods, manufacturers are forced to reduce any environmental safeguards that they had in place. An example of this is when a textiles mill in southern China was caught dumping 22,000 tons of contaminated water from its dyeing operation each day turning the whole river dark red. Another driver behind behaviour such as this is the ever growing discount clothing chain stores. Prices on fabric and clothing have fallen by 25% since 1995 and the particular article this was taken from was put together back in 2007. In 1993 Thom Hartmann proposed the hunter farmer theory of ADHD in his book Attention Deficit Disorder A Different Perception . In this theory he states that back in time, approximately 10,000 year ago, before farming and agriculture was a part of everyday life, people needed hunters to provide food. These hunters possessed specialized survival traits: hyper focus for short intense periods of time, an ability to be distractible scanning the horizon for game or threats, and a necessity to be completely in the moment . Though farming did exist, it was not as wide scale as it is today, and the need for hunters was much greater. (Ferguson) Diagnosis and Treatment ADHD is identified by using a diagnostic interview method. It is important that the study of the child being diagnosed include the history covering their present symptoms, an opposing diagnosis, comorbid conditions, as well as medical, developmental, school, psychosocial, and family histories. It is also recommended to explore the reason for a request for evaluation of ADHD in the first place, as well as the different methods of treatment that had been used in the past. • 39. How Beer Has Changed Our Side, Time Beer has been around longer than a few countries today. It has a lot more history to it than one might believe, for example, Raley states that Historians speculate that prehistoric nomads may have made beer from grain water before learning to make bread. (Raley 1998) Despite that speculation no person can deny the time and effort has been put to perfecting a fine brew. Brewing beer can be very rewarding however it does requires time, the right ingredients, and most importantly the complex steps to create the perfect beer. Unfortunately for brew masters one of the most important pieces to crafting the perfect beverage is not on our side, time. As John Palmer explains in his instructional book How to Brew The primary phase for ales is often 2 5 days, but 1 3 weeks is normal for a lager. (Palmer, 2006) what he is referring to is the time from the boiling process to turn your ingredients (which we will talk about shortly) to the long fermentation stages, and finally racking and bottling. There are unofficial sources claiming to have some ales done in less than a week while some lagers were said to take over a year. The most crucial and potentially most dangerous stages all involve the uncertainty of time. A task such as bottling your brew too early can cause an eruption of the bottle which could be dangerous for all involved. While not all incidents involving time are physically dangerous it is extremely off putting to think rushing that beer during the racking phase ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
