4. How did you
attract/address your
audience?
I attracted my audience in many different ways
such as in the styles of photographs taken,
colour schemes and fonts, language
and layout of the pages.
For example the image I used for my front
cover and double page spread is of a female
teenage "artist" (this will already attract the
eye of some readers as she is well
known). On the front page the artist is looking
away from the camera and looking at her
guitar, this could mean she is focused on her
music but also a little shy about it as she
avoids eye contact with the camera.
On the double page spread I used an image
once again of the artist looking away but she
is smiling with her arm in the air, this is a
complete contrast to the cover page as she
looks like she happy and having fun and this
could make the readers feel the same way.
Another way in which I attracted my
audience was with the price of my
magazine. My magazine costs £2.99.
This is quite a low price for a monthly
magazine. I wanted to ensure my
target audience were able to afford the
magazine.
I also attracted my audience
by advertising the chance to win Ed
Sheeran concert tickets. I mentioned it
on the front in a purple graphic and also
on the contents page to make sure
it's visible and catches their eye. This
will attract the audience as most young
people jump at the chance of getting
something for free.
I also used pull-out quotes and phrases to
intrigue the audience. Using phrases such
as "an insight into her life" implies it is exclusive
and only available in this magazine while also
interesting the readers as they might discover
some gossip or something they did not know
about the artist.
I used different fonts throughout the magazine. I
used Gloss and Bloom for the masthead, this
font has a handwritten and girly look to it and
this gives it a more personal and laidback
touch. I used very simple fonts for the text and
interview and separated the questions from the
answers by using different colours to make sure
the reader can understand who says
what clearly. Also using images between
questions to ensure there is not too much text
and the reader does not get bored.
I addressed my audience through various different
way such as in the language used in the magazine. I
used an informal style of writing throughout
the magazine as it will address the readers in ways
they do among each other. By using these words the
readers can relate much more to the magazine as
this is the way they communicate.
Other ways in which I addressed my audience was
through the images used. Most of the images were
taken in studios with bright lighting. In most of the
images the "models" are smiling and having
fun creating a positive vibe for the magazine. In
contrast to photos you would find in magazines of
different genres of music such as a Rock or heavy
metal magazine.
The "models" are dressed in clothes that are girly and
fashionable as most people interested in Pop/RnB
music are generally interested in self image and the
way they dress.
