Target Audience Research
For our target audience research we have decided to carry out two questionnaires and a
focus group to help guide our ideas for our slasher film. We will ask general questions with a
few open and closed, to get a general ideas of what audiences like in horror movies without
being specific on who the target audience is or what type of sub-genre we want to know
more about. The second questionnaire will mainly focus on the sub-genre we have chosen
to get more knowledge of what audiences would like to see in a horror trailer, magazine and
poster. This will aid us on what questions we can ask in our focus group. In our focus group
we will ask more specific questions to gain a more in-depth look into what my target
audience would like to see in our slasher promotional package. We will ask them what their
opinion are on different pieces from a promotional package and also ask why. This will
enable our project too be as successfulas possible and appeal to our target audience. We
will then analyse all of the data collected from the questionnaires and the focus group to
gain further knowledge and understanding.
The target audience research is one of the most important aspects to the research and
analysis stage within our project. The research will enable us to make important decisions
such as who will feature on the magazine and poster. By getting this feedback we will know
what the target audience want and therefore allow us to become more creative and achieve
the most successful result possible by meeting our audience’s needs.
However there are some negative traits by carrying out this research, such as, our target
audience will only be represented by a handful of people and therefore cannot give a
response on behalf of all the target audience. This will mean that the feedback we do
receive could be unusable due to the fact that we may receive limited responses. Moreover
when it comes to handing out our questionnaires we will be giving them out to some of the
pupils at our school which may lead to them not being taken seriously and therefore making
them useless. If this does occur then we may have to rethink to the location for the
distribution of our questionnaires, or even stay with them when they are completing them
so that if they are confused about some of the questions we can help.

5.target audience research explanation

  • 1. Target Audience Research For our target audience research we have decided to carry out two questionnaires and a focus group to help guide our ideas for our slasher film. We will ask general questions with a few open and closed, to get a general ideas of what audiences like in horror movies without being specific on who the target audience is or what type of sub-genre we want to know more about. The second questionnaire will mainly focus on the sub-genre we have chosen to get more knowledge of what audiences would like to see in a horror trailer, magazine and poster. This will aid us on what questions we can ask in our focus group. In our focus group we will ask more specific questions to gain a more in-depth look into what my target audience would like to see in our slasher promotional package. We will ask them what their opinion are on different pieces from a promotional package and also ask why. This will enable our project too be as successfulas possible and appeal to our target audience. We will then analyse all of the data collected from the questionnaires and the focus group to gain further knowledge and understanding. The target audience research is one of the most important aspects to the research and analysis stage within our project. The research will enable us to make important decisions such as who will feature on the magazine and poster. By getting this feedback we will know what the target audience want and therefore allow us to become more creative and achieve the most successful result possible by meeting our audience’s needs. However there are some negative traits by carrying out this research, such as, our target audience will only be represented by a handful of people and therefore cannot give a response on behalf of all the target audience. This will mean that the feedback we do receive could be unusable due to the fact that we may receive limited responses. Moreover when it comes to handing out our questionnaires we will be giving them out to some of the pupils at our school which may lead to them not being taken seriously and therefore making them useless. If this does occur then we may have to rethink to the location for the distribution of our questionnaires, or even stay with them when they are completing them so that if they are confused about some of the questions we can help.
