 Identify & define behavior expectations
 Teach behavior expectations
 Model & monitor expected behavior
 Acknowledge system for appropriate behavior
 Correct behavior errors through a continuum
of consequences (discipline flowchart)
 Use data for decision making

Critical features =
The core components that
support the
implementation of PBIS
with fidelity
Knowledge: The theoretical
understanding of the PBIS
framework & philosophy.
Skills: The ability to use the
knowledge of PBIS & apply it in a
context.
Attitude: The beliefs, feelings, and
behavioral tendencies toward
implementing PBIS.

Questions to consider:
 What does school staff already know about PBIS
& what do they need to know?
 Are there other school-based teams/programs
already doing something that could be easily
linked to PBIS?
 Does the current prevailing philosophy tor
responding to problem behaviors follow the
PBIS framework?
 How are you authentically engaging students,
parents, and the community in implementing
PBIS?

Successfully connecting the
critical features of PBIS to the
school setting & linking to
other school-based programs
 Set implementation millstones to
celebrate & describe them to staff:
reaching 80% on the SET, decreasing
