2. MyAudienceResearch
Throughout my audience research, I asked people throughout
the school about their opinions and attitudes towards
particular aspects of music videos, as well as their
personal preferences they have. This research is for further
understanding on how to perfect my own music video for my
project. I asked people all around the school which has an
age range of 11-18 years old. This age range has also been
taken into consideration deeming what is appropriate for
particular age groups to view.
3. MethodofApproach
My method of approach in my audience research was a
questionnaire which consisted of 6 questions. I believe that
a questionnaire was the best method for me to use as it was
easy to collect the data and also not too time consuming, it
is also easier to make sure people stick to the closed
questions that have been provided and further details and
information that isn’t necessarily needed is minimised.
4. Question1-AgeGroup
The graph on the left shows data I received from
asking the age of each person who took part in the
questionnaire. As seen on the graph, the majority of
people who completed the questionnaire fell into the
16-18 age boundaries. This was because when I
was going around with my questionnaire, this age
group was the majority in the area. Also, many
people who fell into the age groups of 11-12 and
13-15 didn’t want to take part in the questionnaire
and this is reflected in the amount of people who
answered. The largest amount of responses for an
age group was 11 and the minimum was 4. I also felt
that it was necessary to target the older age group
as I believed that they would be most drawn to the
product and genre I am trying to create.
5. Question2-Gender
The pie chart on the left shows the gender
totals of the participants who took part in the
questionnaire. This was a very close result. 11
males were asked and 9 females, this doesn’t
necessarily have a major impact seeing as the
difference was very small and 20 people were
still included in the sample, all of whom I
believe are my target audience as it isn’t gender
specific.
6. Question3-Whichofthefollowingmusicvideostylesareyoumostdrawnto?
On the left, the pie chart shows what style of music
video my participants were most drawn to. I believe
that this is an important question for my research as it
helps me to decipher how many people were fans of
the style I was trying to recreate. Out of the 20 people
asked the most prefered style is a performance, this
shows me perhaps the different opinions of people
throughout the school and how they might react as an
audience to something different.

7. Question4-Doyouasanindividualbelievethatthemusicvideoisimportantforasong’ssuccess?
The bar chart on the left shows the
participant response to whether or not
they find music videos important for a
song’s success. The majority strongly
agreed with the statement, showing that
there is a high volume of people who
flock to watch music videos for the song,
which can have a lasting effect on
whether or not they will continue to
listen to it. As an individual this puts
pressure to create a good music video
so that the audience does not get bored.

8. Question5-Doyougooutofyourwaytowatchmusicvideosforsongsyouenjoyontheradio?
I asked this question to my participants to see whether or
not there was any bias that they may have to particular
artists. I asked whether or not if they heard a song on the
radio and enjoyed it if they would proceed to watch the
music video. This gives me a good understanding of my
audience as a majority of them said yes, this means that
there isn’t a particular bias from the audience in a style of
music video they may prefer if they are hearing the song on
the radio first and enjoying it.

9. Question6-Doyouonlywatchmusicvideosfortheartist
The final question I asked my participants is whether
or not they only watch music videos for the artist.
The results aren’t hugely far apart and show a lot of
variance. Although many people answered yes, a lot
of people didn’t really know meaning that they may
just watch the music video to see what else is in it, or
they might be attracted to the storyline or style of
music video that it is, especially if the artist isn’t
visible within the music video itself.

10. Evaluation
After putting my results into concise and clear graphs and
pie charts, I have ideas of what the participants in these
age groups are attracted towards. I am confident that my
results will help me work towards producing a better
finalised product which I can show. I am also glad that I
used a questionnaire as it has given me clear and reliable
answers which I can gather data from easily.
