Linked genes are genes located on the same chromosome. In a cross between two linked genes, most offspring will receive parental combinations of alleles, but some will be recombinants due to crossing over. Recombinants are offspring that receive a new combination of alleles different from the parents, resulting from exchange of genetic material between homologous chromosomes during meiosis.
