The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

2. Existing Product
The reason I chose this game is because it
is the type of game I am going for and has
the same goal which is to outrun the
enemy. The use of lighting is not too
overcomplicated as the background is light
and foreground is dark. I will not be doing
this but I will use minimal shading as they
do in this game. There is only one costume
in the game and I aim to have 4-5 for each
character in mine. There are a range of
scenes which is good as it gives the game
more variation. There is also quite a tight
color scheme. The music intensifies as the
enemy catches up to you and also as you
get further along the level. There are also
effects for when a item is collected or you
make a jump wrong. It makes the audience
want to buy it as the game is advertised as
quite action packed and fun.
3. Existing Product
The reason I chose this game is because of
the animation style and also it is a
sidescroller. The main difference between
this game and mine is that I want mine to
be endless and the screen/ player is
constantly moving forward. The lighting in
this game is good to say it is in a pixel art
style. The scenes are very similar but
change as the levels progress and for boss
stages etc. the music plays throughout the
game and like the stages changes for boss
etc. The colors are vibrant which matches
the art style of the game which is
pixelated. The sounds played when an
action is done suits the game and they
make sense and don’t feel out of place. I
think that the main selling point of the
game is that it is made in an old style and
it is a classic game type.
4. Existing Product
The reason I chose this game is because I really like
the art style and also the music is old school and
good. Things similar to my game will be that there is
a cat and mouse in it and also that it is on a side
camera angle. The lighting and color is amazing and
it works in a special way. The un intractable parts of
the game such as the background have more of a
washed water color style to them. Whereas the
moving objects such as characters and weapons, as
well as intractable objects are all more vibrant block
colors with black outlines and a bounce to them. I
would like to incorporate this bounce technique
into my games as it make them feel more animated.
The music for this game is very good and suits the
game very well. The music is all done by a live
orchestra and each level and area has a different
song. The music is an old school piano and this
really goes well with the 1930 style of
animation. The main reason people are attracted to
this game is because of the art style and also as it is
a infamously hard game which will attract hardcore
gamers.
5. Existing Product
The reason I picked this game is
because it is a sidescroller, is pixelated
and all of the sounds and music are
done in a 8-bit style. The main
difference between this and my game
is that mine is going to be endless
whereas this is level based. The
lighting and coloring of this game are
also features which I am going to use
in my game as they work well
together as some areas show darker
tones than others. The scenes are
really good and quite detailed to say
the amount of pixels limits the
designers. I also think that the
gameplay is very smooth for an old
game. The main selling points of this
game will probably be that its an old
classic and that it has a simple and
fun.
6. Research Analysis
• All of the games that I have chose are on a side angle and
the majority of them are sidescrollers. The pixel art games
are both very similar in the fact that the art style is the
same and the aim of the game is to complete levels.
Whereas Cuphead is more of an odd game although the
colours and animation style inspire me.
• Things I will use in my game inspired by these are:
The pixel art style
Colour
The music and sound type
Sidescroller style
Endless runner
