Hempcrete is an ecological building material made from a mixture of hemp hurds (shives) and lime. It was first developed in France in the 1980s and has since gained popularity. Hempcrete provides insulation and can be used to construct non-load bearing walls. It has benefits over concrete like being fireproof, waterproof, weather resistant, and providing insulation. Tradical Hemcrete is a trademarked version of hempcrete produced in the UK using UK-grown hemp shives and a formulated lime binder. Hempcrete walls work with a structural frame, usually timber, and provide high thermal insulation standards for external building envelopes.
