This presentation talks about different threats involved in a experimental process or study. Threats to internal and external validity of an experimental work is also discussed. Also a few techniques of controlling the threats have been also presented.

Evaluation Design and its methods
Evaluation Design:
Experimental
Quasi Experimental
Observational
1.Experimental Evaluation Design
This involves the random allocation of participants into intervention and control groups . The intervention group receives the health education or health promotion intervention while the control group doesnot. The difference in outcome between the two groups is then compared to determine the effectiveness of the intervention.
Example: A group of leaders is identified as appropriate for a leadership development program. The group is randomly divided into two cohorts with one group participating in the leadership development program first. Those participating in the program are compared to the group that has not yet participated in the program.
2.Quasi-Experimental Design.
This involves the comparision of outcomes before and after the intervention .
Participants are not randomly allocated into groups , but the intervention group is compared to a control group or to the same group before the intervention.
Example:
Leaders choose whether to participate in a leadership development program or not. Those participating in the program are compared to themselves before the program or to other groups who did not participate in the program.
A quasi-experimental design is a non-randomized study design used to evaluate the effect of an intervention.
Unlike a true experiment, in a quasi-experimental study the choice of who gets the intervention and who doesn’t is not randomized.
Instead, the intervention can be assigned to participants according to their choosing or that of the researcher, or by using any method other than randomness.
Having a control group is not required, but if present, it provides a higher level of evidence for the relationship between the intervention and the outcome.
Because participants will not be assigned at random and the control group is optional, a quasi-experimental design may suffer from:
Confounding:
As the initial characteristics of the participants may provide an alternative explanation of the outcome.
Bias:
These are alternative explanations of the outcome such as: natural progression, outside events, differential selection of participants, etc.
3.Observational Evaluation Design:
This involves the observational and recording of behaviours, attitude or outcomes with intervening. This design is useful for evaluating the impact of large-scale health education or health promotion intervention.
The investigator doesnot intervene and rather simply observes and assess the strength of the relationship between exposure and outcome.
For eg –
A health education program was conducted on Handwashing in Gramthan Municipality . Observational evaluation include whether the resident of Gramthan municipality was their hand after toilet or after working in dirt.
A health education program conducted on Balance diet to the postpartum mothers.A observational evaluation include whether the bab
NEED FOR RESEARCH
Research is a systemic process of collecting and analyzing information to increase the understanding of the phenomenon under study.
It strengthens pharmacist-provided services, builds the evidence base for developing and commissioning new services, improves patient care and contributes to health service knowledge.
Phase I studies: Are done on healthy volunteers who agree to take the study drug to help the doctors determine how safe the drug is and if there are any side effects. Usually a small number of subjects (20-100) participate in Phase I studies. Approximately 70% of new drugs will pass this phase.
Phase II studies: Measure the effect of the new drug in patients with the disease or disorder to be treated. The main purpose is to determine safety and effectiveness of the new drug. Usually several hundred patients participate. These studies are usually “Double-blinded, randomized and controlled”.
Phase III studies: also use patients with the disorder to be treated by the new drug. These studies are done to gain a more thorough understanding of the effectiveness, benefits and side effects of the study drug.
NEED FOR DESIGN OF EXPERIMENTS
Design of experiments (DOE) is defined as a branch of applied statistics that deals with planning, conducting, analyzing, and interpreting controlled tests to evaluate the factors that control the value of a parameter or group of parameters.
DOE is a powerful data collection and analysis tool that can be used in a variety of experimental situations.
1. PRE-EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN
In pre-experimental research design, either a group or various dependent groups are observed for the effect of the application of an independent variable which is presumed to cause change.
It is the simplest form of experimental research design and is treated with no control group
2. TRUE EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN
The true experimental research design relies on statistical analysis to approve or disprove a hypothesis. It is the most accurate type of experimental design and may be carried out with or without a pretest on at least 2 randomly assigned dependent subjects.
The true experimental research design must contain a control group, a variable that can be manipulated by the researcher, and the distribution must be random.
3. QUASI EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN
The word "quasi" means partial, half, or pseudo. Therefore, the quasi-experimental research bearing a resemblance to the true experimental research, but not the same. In quasi-experiments, the participants are not randomly assigned, and as such, they are used in settings where randomization is difficult or impossible.
This is very common in educational research, where administrators are unwilling to allow the random selection of students for experimental samples.
PLAGIARISM
The word Plagiarism is derived from the Latin word Plagiarius, which means abducting, kidnapping, seducing, or plundering.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
