Dentine dysplasia
General information
It is a rare disturbance of dentine formation,
characterised by normal but a typical dentine
formation, with abnormal pulp morphology
it represents an autosomal dominant trait
some systemic diseases are also manifested as
dentin dysplasia features. They are calcinosis cutis,
vitaminosis d and tumoural calcinosis
Classification
According to shield
•Shield type I – dentine dysplasia
•Shield type II – anomalous dysplasia
According to Witkop
•Radicular dentine dysplasia
•coronal dentine dysplasia
Clinical features – shield type I
Also called radicular dentine dysplasia
Slightly Amber and translucent teeth
Malalignment and malpositioning due to extreme
mobility
Root size is extremely small
Clinical features – shield Type II
Root is normal in size
there is significant differences
of colour in both the dentitions
Radiographic features
Radicular
• Short roots with sharp conical and apical
constriction
• pulp chamber and canals are obliterated before
eruption
Coronal
• thistle tube appearance
• Teeth show multiple pulp stones
Diagnosis
Unusual mobility of tooth without
periodontal involvement
Very short root of the teeth
Lava are flowing around Boulder
Management
Oral hygiene
should be
maintained
Retrograde
endodontic
treatment
Periapical
curettage
should be
done
