This document discusses radio frequency propagation mechanisms and empirical models for path loss prediction in hilly areas. It presents three empirical propagation models - COST231-Hata, Okumura-Hata, and Egli - that are suitable for path loss prediction in such environments. Signal strength measurements were taken in UHF band in Idanre, Nigeria and compared to predictions from the three models. The COST231-Hata model showed the closest agreement with a mean path loss error of 2.39dB, making it the most suitable model. A modified COST231-Hata model was also developed and implemented in Matlab, achieving 93.8% accuracy.
