“These days judg-

Saturday resigned as
Chief Minister of Pun-

humiliation by Con-
gress leadership over
the past two months. He
made it clear that he
would explore & exer-

when time comes. He
said he had decided and
informed Congress
president Sonia Gandhi
in the morning that he
would resign. “Appar-
ently they (Congress
high command) do not
have confidence in me
and did not think I could
handle my job. But I felt
humiliated at the man-

dled the whole affair,”
he said. “Let them ap-

SIGNIFICANT
Kolkata: Former
Union Minister and
ex-BJP MP Babul
Supriyo on Satur-
day formally joined
TMC. Supriyo had
quit the BJP follow-
ing recent Union
Cabinet reshuffle.
Sitting MP Babul Su-
priyo joined the Tri-
namool family in the
presence of Nation-
al Gen Secy Ab-
hishek Banerjee
and RS MP Derek
O’Brien. Abhishek
said, “It is just the

more to come. TMC
spokesperson Kunal

leaders will join
TMC as BJP is “just
a gas balloon with
no ideology”. Leader
of Opposition in WB
Assembly Suvendu
Adhikari said Supri-
yo’s departure did
not cause any loss to
BJP as he is not po-
litically significant.
 Haryana Home Minister
Anil Vij on Saturday drew
parallels between the Pun-
jab Congress and a sinking
ship, terming it “unstable”.
When a ship is about
to sink, its movement
becomes unsteady. Navjot
Singh Sidhu is responsible
for Captain’s resignation.
 Aam Aadmi Party co-
incharge for Assembly
Elections 2022 Raghav
Chadha called Congress
the “sinking Titanic”. In
the Game of Thrones that
have been going on in
Punjab Congress for the
last so many months, the
greatest causality has
been governance he said.
 “Replacing the Congress
chief minister is a panic re-
action of the Congress high
command to salvage the
party situation after it failed
to deliver in the last more
than four and a half years,”
said BJP’s national general
secretary Tarun Chugh.
“I was humiliated three times by the Congress leadership in the past two
months...they called the MLAs to Delhi twice and now convened CLP here
in Chandigarh today,” I feel humiliated. Future politics is always an
option. I will speak to my supporters and decide what to do next.”

RAHUL’S WILL
PREVAILS!
Sources say, Rahul is now coming in Complete
Command and Control. Probably he has apologised
to both his mother and sister for enforcing his harsh
decisions. Clear signs of this found this morning
when Sonia told the Captain on the phone “Sorry
Amarinder!” According to political observers,
there is a sense of helplessness hidden in Sonia’s
words as she conceeds before the decisions of
her children. These developments have led to a
tremendous stir in OLD BRIGADE of Congress!
Names of both Ajay Mak-
en and Harish Chaudhary
are being discussed in
the political corridors of
Rajasthan today. Both
played an important role
in Punjab as observers.
Maken is party in-charge
in Raj while Chaudhary
is Revenue Min in Gehlot
government.
The move is seen as
an effort to restore lost
glory and prestige of
high command. Now Ra-
hul is making efforts and
is not listening to any
family member. Even on
issue of Chhattisgarh,
Rahul made his choice.
Now Baghel may also
resign at any moment.
PM holds meeting
with top bureaucrats
New Delhi: PM Naren-
dra Modi held a mara-
thon meeting with the
secretaries of central
government depart-
ments on Saturday and
wondered why the bu-
reaucrats, despite hav-
ing vision for develop-
ment, lacked in the ex-
ecution, sources said.
The meeting lasted
more than four hours.
Many secretaries
shared their views on
various policy-related
matters and made sug-
gestions on further im-
proving governance.
Meanwhile, a day af-
ter highest single-day
vaccination, PM asked
without naming any po-
litical party why some
political parties had de-
veloped a “fever” when
the country adminis-
tered 2.5 crore vaccine
doses. He interacted
with a doctor during his
address to healthcare
workers and vaccine
beneficiaries of Goa.
They discussed the pos-

and accountable to en-

benefit from it.
In the last six months
alone, 1,61, 256 new ra-
tion cards have been
made by the State Gov-
ernment under the Na-
tional Food Security
Act (NFSA), taking the
total number of ration
card holders in the state
to 3,60,12,758.
Besides, the Yogi Gov-
ernment has facilitated
linkingof almost100per
cent (99.79 percent) of
the ration cards with
Aadhar Card to bring
transparency into the
public distribution sys-
tem, which is a mile-
stone in itself. In no oth-
er state of the country,
such a huge number of
ration cards are linked
to the Aadhar Card.
The linking of the ra-
tion card with Aadhar

ularities in the distribu-

has requested all passengers, in the light of heavy rains
to connect with their respective airline and check the
schedule before leaving their homes. In addition, special

However, she has

PETRO PRODUCTS
TO REMAIN OUT
OF GST REGIME
onsumer expecta-
tions ran high as the
Goods and Services
Tax (GST) Council
meeting got under-
way in Lucknow on Friday
. Will
it bring petroleum products un-
der its purview or retain the pre-
sent tax regime which would
mean the prices remaining high.
An indirect tax regime, it was
argued, will lower the fuel pric-
es substantially
.
Bringing petro products un-
der GST was being considered
after an order of the Kerala
High Court but with the States
opposing it, “the Council was
unanimously of the view that it
is not appropriate to do so at this
stage”. Taxation on fuel prices
is a big revenue grosser for the
States and even at 28 percent of
GST they would have suffered
huge revenue losses. All States
have different tax rates on fuel
and a uniform tax structure
would have hurt their interests.
As the Central government
and states both levy tax on petro-
leum products, India has the
highest tax on fuel. GST would
have brought relief to the com-
mon man.

P
CHANGE IN AFGHANISTAN
NOT INCLUSIVE: MODI
t happened sooner than later.
According to reliable sourc-
es, a few days ago a fracas
took place at the Presidential
Palace in Kabul.
Mullah Abdul Ghani Bara-
dar- considered a balanced,
non-fanatical Taliban leader
was apparently physically at-
tacked by a member of the
Haqqani group. The Taliban
high-ups were deliberating
the forming of a Cabinet.
Mullah Baradar was in fa-
vour of having an “inclu-
sive” cabinet which would
include non-Talibans also.
This was not acceptable to
Khalilul Rahaman Haqqaini.
He punched Mullah Baradar.
The respective bodyguards
had a shootout. Fortunately
Mullah Baradar was not
wounded. He soon left for
Kandahar to meet the Tali-
ban spiritual head, Haibatul-
lah Akhundzada.
--------------------------------------------
Before I emphasize the sig-
nificance of Prime Minister
Narendra Modi’s virtual
speech at the Shanghai Coop-
eration Organization, I will
mention what President Xi
Jing Ping said. He empha-
sised the SCO should assist
in a smooth transition in Af-
ghanistan and ensure the es-
tablishment of an all-inclu-
sive government.
He also spoke against ter-
rorism, separation and ex-
tremism. The Shanghai Co-
operation Organisation con-
sists of India, China, Russia,
Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan,
Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uz-
bekistan. Afghanistan is an
Observer.
He stressed, “We, SCO
member states need to set up
a coordination (setup) to
make full use of platforms
such as SCO-Afghanistan
Contact Group, and facilitate
a smooth transition in Af-
ghanistan……TheSCOneeds
to encourage Afghanistan to
put in place a broad-based po-
litical frame-work, adopt
moderate domestic and for-
eign policies…. Resolutely
fight terrorism”. With due
respect to the leader of China
I do not think the Taliban gov-
ernment would be capable of
implementing any of the
three, eminently wise sugges-
tions. They have no idea of
how to govern or how to con-
duct foreign policy and do-
mesticadministration.Toask
terrorists “resolutely fight
terrorism” is like expecting a
crocodile to fight another
non-existing crocodile. The
Taliban are the terrorists.
Finally, Xi Jing Ping pro-
posed the SCO countries
should “pursue common,
comprehensive and coopera-
tive action, and take tough
steps against terrorism, sep-
aratism, including the East
Turkestan Islamic Move-
ment” if I may so he is con-
fusing hope with reality.
Common action by the SCO
is most unlikely. The USA
will be the spoiler.
President Vladimir Putin
of Russia said that the Rus-
sian government supports a
UN conference on Afghani-
stan and that the World
should consider unfreezing
Afghanistan assets.
The Security Council met
to discuss Afghanistan. Out-
come –no solution emerged.
The UN General Assembly is
a noisy ‘jamboree’, where
sustained serious discus-
sions are rare.
Now to Prime Minister
Narendra Modi, who spoke
on the situation in Afghani-
stan and India’s approach to
the crisis in that country
. He
was addressing a joint meet-
ing of the Shanghai Coopera-
tion Organization and Russia
led Collective Security Trea-
ty Organisation (CSTU).
The PM made the follow-
ing points. The change in Af-
ghanistan was not inclusive
and was done without nego-
tiation. The SCO should have
strict and common norms to
deal with terrorism. No toler-
ance on terrorism or its ex-
port from Afghanistan. Chal-
lenge growing radicalism.
Among India’s key con-
cerns were Pakistan based
Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-
Mohammed. The PM called
for protection of women and
minorities. He listed four
grave issues. The spread of
terrorist and extremist ide-
ologies if instability contin-
ues in Afghanistan, the pos-
sibility of uncontrolled flow
of drugs, illegal weapons and
human trafficking and the
serious humanitarian crisis
in the war torn country.
Questions were being raised
about, “acceptability of the
new regime”. “Therefore it is
essential that the world com-
munity decides on the recog-
nition of the new regime in a
thoughtful and collective
manner.”
“The 20th anniversary of
SCO is a suitable occasion to
think about the future of the
SCO. I believe the biggest
challenges in the region are
related to peace, security and
trust deficit and the root
cause of these problems is
radicalism”
The country now knows
precisely what is India’s Af-
ghan policy. The Prime Min-
ister has cleared the diplo-
matic fog.

New Delhi: About 50
per cent rise in the
cases of child mar-
riages has been re-
corded in 2020 over
the previous year, ac-
cording to the recent
NCRB data, with ex-
perts saying it does not
only mean there has
been an increase in
these instances but
there also has been a
rise in reporting.
According to the
National Crime Re-
cords Bureau (NCRB)
data of 2020, a total of
785 cases were regis-
tered under the Prohi-
bition of Child Mar-
riage Act. The number
of cases registered were
the highest in Karnata-
ka at 184.
In 2019, 523 cases
were registered under
the act, while in 2018,
501 cases were lodged.
Experts say the grad-
ual rise in the cases of
child marriage may
not necessarily mean
that there has been a
jump in such instanc-
es but that the report-
ing of such cases has
also increased.
Roop Sen, Founding
Member of Sanjog, one
of the NGOs which is a
part of the Indian Lead-
ership Forum Against
Trafficking, said: “It is a
mix of both increased
reportingandinstances.
There have been in-
creased incidences of
adolescents girls falling

getting married that
also contribute to in-
creased number of child

What will BJP do in
Maha, Haryana and
Jharkhand?
Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel and former CM Vijay Rupani.
Mahesh Sharma
New Delhi: After the
BJP’s return to Patel
politics in Gujarat,
which is considered the
laboratory of Hindutva,
questions have been
raised about party’s ex-
periments in many
more states. Wherever
BJP has made changes
recently, it has given
preference to the strong-
est caste in the caste
equation. If Lingayat
CM was removed in Kar-
nataka, a Lingayat were
sworn in. In Uttara-
khand, a Thakur was
made the CM and in Gu-
jarat, Rupani of Jain
Vaish Samaj was re-
placed as CM of strong-
est Patidar community.
Therefore, the question
is what will the BJP do
in Haryana, Jharkhand
and Maharashtra now?
In these three states,
the BJP had undertaken
bold experiments. It had
made a non-Jat CM in
Haryana by taking a
risk. But BJP went a
step further and made a
Punjabi the CM. Since
then the BJP has been
facing opposition from
Jats. The BJP had suf-
fered a loss in the As-
sembly polls due to Jats’
protest, but the party
performed brilliantly in
Lok Sabha and won all
10 seats. However, now
the picture has changed
after Gujarat. Haryana
CM Manohar Lal Khat-
tar is also going to com-
plete 7 years. So, the Jat
leaders of Haryana are
also hoping for a change.
On the other hand,
the discussion of mak-
ing a leader from tribal
community as CM in
Jharkhand has once
again started gaining
momentum. Similarly,
in Maharashtra, BJP
had made a non-Mara-
tha CM by taking a risk.
There is no instance of
a Brahmin being made
the CM in the near past.
Now party is doing fur-
ther politics by giving
command to the strong
castes everywhere, the
hope of Maratha lead-
ers has been raised too.
They feel that if the
BJP decides to continue
Gujarat experiment,
then in Maharashtra
too, a Maratha will be
made CM at the next op-
portunity. Will it’s new
strategy work or will it
back fire, the answer to
this riddle lies in the
upcoming assembly
poll results.
Sushil Kumar
New Delhi: It seems
that those who are leav-
ing the Congress party
are ending up in a posi-
tion better than that
handed to them as oth-
er parties are accom-
modating them at the
best possible place.
Along with the BJP,
even Congress’ own
allies are sitting
ready for this.
Earlier it was being
said that BJP is giving
Lok Sabha or Vidhan
Sabha tickets to the
leaders defecting from
Congress, but it does
not make them minis-
ters etc. However, now
that myth has also been
broken as BJP has made
Jyotiraditya Scindia a
Union Minister after
sending him to the Ra-
jya Sabha. Moreover,
his supporters have also
got a good place in the
Madhya Pradesh gov-
ernment. On the other
hand, Himanta Biswa
Sarma, who left the
Congress and joined the
BJP just six-seven years
ago, has been made the
Chief Minister of As-
sam and now he is han-
dling the politics of BJP
in the Northeast. This
is a big temptation for
Congress leaders wait-
ing to jump on the bor-
der line. Meanwhile,
Mamta Banerjee has
decided to send former
All India Mahila Cong
Prez Sushmita Deb,
who left Congress and
joined TMC, to the Ra-
jya Sabha. Priyanka
Chaturvedi, who left
Congress and joined
Shiv Sena, has also been
sent to Rajya Sabha.
Satpal Maharaj is also a
minister in the BJP gov-
ernment in Uttara-
khand and in fact
there is talk of
him becoming the
CM as well.

New Delhi: The crisis
within Congress in poll-
bound Punjab Saturday
reached a flashpoint,
the timing of which
could not have been
worse coming as it did
months before the up-
coming elections to the
state assembly
.
The sudden develop-
ment came in the wake
of over 50 of the 80 Con-
gress MLAs - specifi-
cally Navjot Singh Sid-
hu’s supporters - writ-
ing to party chief Sonia
Gandhi - after a late
night meeting to de-
mand that Amarinder
Singh be replaced as
Punjab Chief Minister.
Many Congress legis-
lators are said to have
bluntly told Harish
Rawat, the party’s Pun-
jab poll in-charge, that
the Congress will not
win next year’s poll un-
der Captain Singh.
The fact that Singh
was living on borrowed
time became apparent
during the past two
months when the party
highcommandcalledits
Punjab MLAs to Delhi
twiceandthenconvened
a CLP meet on Saturday
.
To what extent his re-
sentment harms the
Congress in the assem-
bly elections, barely a
fewmonthsaway
,willbe
seen with interest. But
incaseof anysplitinthe
Congress, its electoral
prospects will get ham-
pered seriously, as the
party is still licking its
woundsafterSingh’sbit-
terstand-off withSidhu.
In August, Singh had
relented to Sidhu’s de-
mands after the Con-
gress High Command
appointed him as the
President of the Punjab
Pradesh Congress Com-
mittee. Now, in view of
the sudden develop-
ment, the names of
three leaders are in cir-
culation to replace Sin-
gh - former Punjab Con-
gress chiefs Sunil
Jakhar and Pratap Sin-
gh Bajwa, and Beant
Singh’s grandson
Ravneet Singh Bittu.
Many Congress law-
makers have, mean-
while, urged the central
leadership to take quick
action, as the continu-
ing political turmoil
could allow the Opposi-
tion in the state to seek
dissolution of the As-
sembly and contest the
polls, expected around
February next year, un-
der President’s rule.
However, there was
no such immediate talk
in the corridors of the
Union Home Ministry,
though the North Block
is keeping a close watch
on the unfolding devel-
opments.
Anita Hada
New Delhi: All is not
well between Janata
Dal-U and BJP, which
are running the govern-
ment together in Bihar
as state leaders of both
the parties are continu-
ously attacking each
other. It is said that
there are some theoreti-
cal and political issues
on which there is no
consensus even among
the top leadership, and
moreover both have a
different stand on the
issue of caste census.
Chief Minister Nit-
ish Kumar had recently
met the PM along with
the leaders of all the
parties of the state and
requested him to get the
caste census done. Now
the CM and leaders of
other parties are wait-
ing for Centre’s deci-
sion. If the central gov-
ernment is not ready
for this, then it is pos-
sible that the JDU-led
Bihar government will
announce the caste
count in the state. In
such a situation, the
dispute between the two
will increase and a new
power equation can
also be formed.
Meanwhile in Uttar
Pradesh too both the
parties have come face
to face on the issue. JDU
has announced to con-

Bengaluru: Five members of a family, including a
nine-month-old male infant, were found dead at
their home here, while a two-and-a-half-year-old
girl child has barely survived the trauma and is
undergoing treatment. The bodies were discov-
ered from their residence in the city’s Thigalara-
palya on Friday night. The incident came to light
when the head of the family, who was away, came
home after four days.
Ambala: A journalist was arrested and another
was booked at Ambala Cantonment for alleged-
ly mentioning “incorrect place” of arrest of a
suspected terrorist in a news report, prompting
the opposition to attack the Haryana government
for “suppressing” freedom of press. He was
produced in the court of Duty Magistrate Mukesh
Kumar on Saturday and the court granted him bail
on furnishing a personal bond of Rs 50,000.
Mangaluru: The ruling BJP has backstabbed
the Hindus by allowing demolition of an ancient
temple in Mysuru and is trying to cover up their
deed by using Sangh Parivar to fight against the
act, Hindu Maha Sabha Karnataka state secre-
tary Dharmendra said on Saturday. Addressing
reporters in Mangaluru, he alleged that the fight
against temple demolitions by Sangh organisa-
tions is just a ploy to cover up the failure of the
BJP government.
Latehar: Seven girls aged between 12 and 20 years
drowned in a pond at a village in Jharkhand’s Late-

The tragedy occurred

New Delhi: Finance
ministers of Opposi-
tion-ruled states have
demanded that the GST
compensation cess re-
gime be extended be-
yond June 2022. Brief-
ing reporters after the
45th GST Council meet-
ing in Lucknow on Fri-
day, Union Finance
Minister Nirmala Si-
tharaman had said the
regime of paying com-
pensation to states for
revenue shortfall re-
sulting from subsum-
ing their taxes such as
VAT in the uniform
national tax GST will
end in June next year.
However, the com-
pensation cess, levied
on luxury and demerit
goods, will continue to
be collected till March
2026 to repay the bor-
rowings that were done
in 2020-21 and 2021-22 to
compensate states for
GST revenue loss.
In his speech at the
meeting, Tamil Nadu
Finance Minister P
Thiaga Rajan demand-
ed continuation of the
compensation mecha-
nism, and deferment
of a decision on this
issue.
“While we are broad-
ly, and firmly in favour
of the continuation of
the compensation
mechanism, we are
concerned by many of
the details,” he said.
Thiaga Rajan said
all the Council Mem-
bers will require some
time to analyse and as-
sess the features and
consequences of the
options presented dur-
ing the 45th meeting,
and hence expect that
any decision on the
way forward will be de-
ferred to the 46th meet-
ing at least.
“To be doubly sure,
we formally place a re-
quest that no final deci-
sion be made on this
most important issue
without the
benefit of
the time
needed to
fully as-
sess the
options,”
Thiag a
Ra-
jan added.
Briefing reporters,
Kerala Finance Minis-
ter K N Balagopal on
Saturday said he has
pitched for extending
the GST compensa-
tion regime as he
highlighted that
the state is already
grappling with
significant revenue
shortfall.
In case the GST com-
pensation regime ends
next year, the state will
face further revenue
shortfall, Balagopal
said and expressed
hope that it would be
extended.
Minister of State for
Urban Development
and Municipal Affairs
Chandrima Bhat-
tarcharya said the
state has demanded an
extension of the com-
pensation mechanism
by five years.
“It has been decided
to set up a GoM for de-
ciding the modalities
of compensation mech-
anism,” she had said
after the meeting on
Friday. Delhi Deputy
Chief Minister Manish
Sisodia said the matter
of compensation cess
would be referred to a
group of ministers
(GoM).
Briefing reporters
on Friday, Sitharaman
had said that in the
43rd GST Council meet-
ing it was decided that
beyond July 2022 the
collection of cess
would be for payment
of loans taken. The

ONLY ‘TAINTED’
TO BE
COMPULSORILY
RETIRED
Reports of UP government
ordering a survey for
compulsory retirement of
employees aged 50 years and
above, specially in the police, have
created a flutter here in power
corridors. Almost all major dailies
carried reports quoting the DGP
headquarters that officials have
been been directed to conduct
screening of ‘non-performing’
policemen in all the districts.
Orders have been given to start
screening tainted policemen aged
50 years and above for
compulsory retirement. Since
three IPS officers have already
been given compulsory
retirement, rumours are rife that
more heads may roll. The details
of the screening are to be sent to
the DGP headquarters by 30
November. Given the sweeping
nature of the reported order and
the confusion not to mention it
has created among the rank and
files, the State government has
come out with a clarification.
“While it is true that the Yogi
government has a zero-tolerance
policy against corruption and
several tainted policemen have
been shown the way out in the
past, the claim being made
through the viral post on social
media is misleading,” said a senior
home department officer. He said
guidelines have been issued to all
the departments to carry out a
similar exercise to identify the
‘tainted’ but there was no need to
panic for others. The officer said
screening reports will be perused
by a high-power panel, which will
then make it recommendations.

at the government

ment will transfer
about Rs 17 crore
online. The depart-
ment has sought de-
tails of bank ac-
counts of 1.60 crore
childrentheirpar-
ents in the current
academic session in
1.59 lakh Parishad

new system, a child

Of a viral video, arrogance of an MLA and a savage Tweet by an IPS...
First India Bureau
Kanpur: The video of
SP MLA Irfan Solanki’s
hooliganism with the
police remains a topic
of discussion on social
media. However, now
the MLA released a vid-
eo clarifying.
In it, he said that I am
an MLA and taking the
problems of common
worker and regional
people, I will keep
roaming in the city.
Now you tell that while
the convoy of the SP
MLA is going the con-
stables sends the chal-
lan after taking photos.
When big leaders of
BJP come, then where
are these policemen
who don’t take photos..?
Meanwhile, IPS Anur-
ag Arya gave a befitting
reply to the MLA on his
Twitter handle. He
wrote that ‘degrees are
receipts for the expens-
es of education, knowl-
edge is the same which
is reflected in the char-
acter. Only then will
you be lucky
. The public
has also supported the
answer of the IPS. IPS
Anurag Arya has been
posted as SP East in
Kanpur. He is well ac-
quainted with the city
and its people. During
the deployment, he did
a better job on crime
control as well as on
gamblers and bookies.
During his tenure,
the gamblers of Kanpur
had gone underground.
Anurag Arya is cur-
rently working as SP
Intelligence in Bareilly
.
He is very active on
Twitter. After the video
of the Kanpur MLA
went viral, he gave his
reaction on it. Maha-
rashtra SP MLA Abu
Azmi was going to Irfan
Solanki, MLA from Sa-
majwadi Party Kan-
pur’s Sisamau Assem-
bly on Friday
. Hundreds
of workers had reached
triple riding on bikes to
welcome him on Jaj-
mau Highway. During
this, traffic inspector
Sudhir Rawat and con-
stable Sanjay Kumar
took photos for the chal-
lan after seeing three
riders without helmets.
It is alleged that this
matter irked MLA Irfan
Solanki so much that
the mobile of the traffic
inspector was snatched
and photos deleted from
mobile with his hand.
Not only this, the offic-
er was harassed fiercely
by threatening to take
off the uniform.
The entire case of
MLA’s hooliganism was
recorded in a bodyworn
camera fitted in high-
tech traffic police uni-
form of Kanpur.

Supporters of Raja
Bhaiya protest over
Nandi’s statement
First India Bureau
Prayagraj: Supporters
of Raja Bhaiya and
Nand Gopal Nandi en-
gaged in scuffle in Pray-
agraj over a statement
made by Nandi. The
supporters got angry
after Jansatta Dal’s na-
tional president
Raghuraj Pratap Singh
Raja Bhaiya was called
a goon by cabinet min-
ister Nand Gopal Gupta
Nandi. In protest
against this statement
of Cabinet Minister, the
workers of Jansatta
Dal, burned the effigy
at his Bahadurganj res-
idence on Friday
clashed with the police.
The workers of
Jansatta Dal were
marching at the resi-
dence of Cabinet Minis-
ter Nand Gopal Gupta
Nandi. But the police
tried to stop the protest-
ers near Laxman Mar-
ket. On the other hand,
Nandi supporters beat
up the Jansatta Dal
workers with sticks and
drove them away.
Recently, Cabinet Min-
ister Nand Gopal Gupta
Nandi, speaking from
the stage, had called
Raja Bhaiya as a mafia
like Mukhtar Ansari
and Atiq Ahmed. He
had said that the BJP
government has done
the work of eliminating
such mafia and our gov-
ernment never does the
work of giving protec-
tion to such mafia.

Lucknow: Against the
backdrop of the forth-
coming Assembly elec-
tions in the state. BJP
is taking steps with
special caution regard-
ing the appointments
to be made in the party
organization and
state-commissions.
Also, well-thought-
out steps are being tak-
en regarding the mem-
bers to be nominated in
the Upper House of the
state. The Upper House
has a lot of importance
in the current politics
of UP
. Top notch leaders
such as Uttar Pradesh
Chief Minister Yogi Ad-
ityanath and Deputy
Chief Ministers Kes-
hav Prasad Maurya and
Dr. Dinesh Sharma are
members of this house.
Many ministers are
also a part of the Upper
House.
It is to be noted that
tenure of CM Yogi and
Deputy Chief Minister
Keshav Maurya is till
July 6, 2022, next year.
At present, the SP
has the maximum 51
seats in the Legislative
Council, while the BJP
has 32 members.
There are six mem-
bers from BSP, two
members from Con-
gress, one member
from Apna Dal (S),one
from the teachers group
(non-political) and oth-
ers Independents.
Because of the ma-
jority of SP in the up-
per house BJP had con-
fronted many troubles
in the past. Many times
the government has
faced an uncom-
fortable situation
here as, on many
occasions when
government bills
had to be referred to
the select committee
due to lack of majority
in stae’s upper house.
This time BJP
has a chance to in-
crease its tally
here, as there are
a total of four va-
cancies out of 10 nomi-
nated seats that have
fallen vacant in the
past few months.
Of these four seats
The term of MLC Leela-
wati Kushwaha, Ram
Vraksha Yadav, Jiten-
dra Yadav ended on July
5, 2021, while one mem-
ber, S R S Yadav, had suc-
cumbed to Covid-19. All
these SP leaders were
nominated during the
SP regime.
Now these vacancies
would be filled as per
the choice of the Yogi
Cabinet.
In view of the up-
coming assembly elec-
tions, special care is
being taken of the caste
and regional equations
while deciding the
names for these four
seats, it is believed that
Jitin Prasad, who
changed his loyalities
from the Congress, to
BJP, is likely to get a
chance, while for the
remaining three seats.
According to politi-
cal pundits, names of
OP Shrivastava, Sanjay
nishad and Ramchan-
dra Pradhan are also
under consideration.

Kanpur: After the In-
come Tax Department’s
raid on Rich Group on
Friday, many revela-
tions have surfaced up.
In this raid, the depart-
ment found links to is-
sue and sell bogus in-
voices. Apart from this,
the company made its
own class IV employees
as directors. Rich Com-
pany, which made 15
fake companies one af-
ter the other, instead of
keeping another person
in its company, thought
it appropriate to put the
name of its own class IV
employees in it so that
the matter remains sup-
pressed within the com-
pany and the game of
selling invoices contin-
ued. However, some
companies have been
registered since the
time of VAT.
Intheinvestigationof
Income Tax officials, it
has been found that no
work was done in any of
these companies and in-
stead only invoices were
issued. However, in
these companies only
their peons and other
class IV employees have
been made directors so
that all the companies
look different. It is
worth noting that the
Bollywood actor, who is
being linked with the
Income Tax raid, had
done the work of send-
ing many people home
and providing financial
help during the Corona
crisis. He had made a lot
of headlines on the in-
ternet media by helping
people during the pan-
demic.
Now many more
names will emerge from
the revelations after the
raid on Rich Company
.
There have been in-
stances where profes-
sional receipts have
been camouflaged as
loans in the books of ac-
counts for the purpose
of evasion of tax.

‘Way to Delhi goes through

First India Bureau
Lucknow: The way to
Delhi goes via Uttar
Pradesh, said Sama-
jwadi Party chief
Akhilesh Yadav
stressing that the up-
coming state Assem-
bly elections are cru-
cial to restore democ-
racy, secularism and
brotherhood.
The former Uttar
Pradesh chief minis-
ter also said the chal-
lenge before the me-
dia is to maintain ob-
jectivity and trans-
parency as strong
journalism leads to strong democracy
.
“The way to Delhi
goesviaUttarPradesh,
hence, the upcoming
elections in the politi-
cally significant state
holds importance to
restore democracy,
secularism and broth-
erhood, the hallmarks
of our Constitution,”
he said. Yadav claimed
that his party will win
400 of 403 Assembly
seats in the Assembly
polls.
He also alleged that
“a section of the me-
dia is creating percep-
tions and setting nar-
ratives to earn hand-
some revenue”.

WILL THE CAPTAIN
HEAD TO BJP NOW?
Captain Amarinder
Singh has heated
up the political atmos-
phere of Punjab after
he was asked to resign
as CM by the party High
Command on Saturday
.
In view of his proximi-
ty to PM Modi, it is be-
ing speculated that he
may also wear the ‘Saf-
fron chola’. At the same
time, he is even con-
nected with the Aam
Aadmi Party through
Manish Tiwari. Cap-
tain’s opposition to the
party has been increas-
ing ever since Sidhu
came into the scene,
saying that some 63
Congress MLAs from
Punjab had raised a
protest against him.
With this move that
has brought the Con-
gress High Command
out of their slumber,
there are speculations
that at present Sunil
Jakhar can be given the
responsibility of the
Chief Minister’s post.
Captain was well aware
thattheentirecampaign
totrimhisstature,which
Sidhu was leading, was
supported by Delhi.
Word is that Rahul
and Priyanka were also
annoyed with the arro-
gant style of the Cap-
tain’s functioning as he
did not listen to anyone,
rather did as he pleased.
Barring a few MLAs,
most of the Congress
MLAs did not even dare
approach him.
The Congress top
brass have done a good
assessment of how
much loss the party
would have to suffer in
coming Assembly polls
if Captain quit the par-
ty. Sources also reveal
that once the Captain
joins BJP, Modi govern-
ment can revoke 3 agri-
cultural laws and con-
test elections there
under the leadership
of Captain because
BJP does not have
any special sup-
port base in
Punjab.
WHEN WILL
CONGRESS WAKE UP
FROM ITS DEEP
SLUMBER IN
GUJARAT?
For the next year’s
Gujarat Assembly
elections, where the rul-
ing BJP is busy in its
damage control cam-
paign wherein right
from CM to ministers
have been changed; the
Congress seems help-
less to capitalise on this
opportunity
. Ahmed Pa-
tel, who was considered
an expert on Gujarat af-
fairs in the party, was
taken by Corona last
year. Gujarat in-charge
Rajiv Satav also became
a victim of Corona. Af-
ter seeing the defeat in
the civic elections, the
party’s state president
Amit Chavda and Lead-
er of Opposition Paresh
Dhanani had re-
signed from
their posts in
March 2021
itself and it
has now
been six
months, but
neither has
Congress
got a new
party president in Guja-
rat, nor an in-charge.
Yet Rahul Gandhi has
tried to make a rhetoric
that ‘this time he will
crush the BJP there.’
Not only is AAP very ac-
tive in Gujarat, but the
owner of a regional
news channel has also
been made face of the
party
. Coming from Del-
hi, AAP’s big leaders
sometimes create a
ruckus in Gujarat,
while Rahul-Priyanka
pair seems to have aban-
doned Gujarat.
WILL 90% MLAS’
TICKETS BE CUT?
Anger is boiling
within a section of
BJP leaders in Gujarat
as for decades they have
been putting their
blood and sweat in ‘ir-
rigating’ the lotus, but
when it comes to be-
coming CM, the ‘Al-
mighty’ unwittingly
bets on a new face. This
is what happened in the
election of Basavaraj
Bommai in Karnataka,
and how Pushkar Singh
Dhami got selected in
Uttarakhand, no one
came to know about it.
Now, speculations are
rife in Himachal and
Haryana of change of
CM. Talking about Gu-
jarat, after changing
the CM, now the blame
is going to fall on the
BJP MLAs. Sources say
that formula of Delhi
and Chhattisgarh will
now be repeated in Gu-
jarat as well. If sources
are to be believed, only
5% of sitting MLAs will
be given tickets, that is,
over 90% of ‘saffron’
MLAs will have to let go
of their claims. The
BJP has a total of 112
MLAs in the 182-mem-
ber Gujarat Assembly,
which means that ac-
cording to this calcula-
tion, tickets of about
101 MLAs may be cut.
BJP leaders believe
that anti-incumbency
factor focuses on a par-
ticular person in the
government, so if the
person changes, then
the anger of the voters
also ends.
WHOSE BOAT
WILL SINK?
UP Governor
Anandiben Patel
sitting in Lucknow has
created an earthquake
in the Saffron politics
of Gujarat. Vijay Rupa-
ni, who was ecstatic
with the kinship of
country’s number two
—AmitShah—thinking
that no problem could
befall him, he and all
his ministers were hur-
riedly discharged. Ni-
tin Patel’s close rela-
tionship with the coun-
try’s most powerful in-
dustrial empire also did
not work for him. And
thereafter the reins of
Gujarat were handed to
Bhupendra Patel
whose only po-
litical capital
is his proxim-
ity to Anandi-
ben. He is a
first time MLA
but became the
Chief Minister di-
rectly. When
Anandiben was
sent to UP, with the in-
structions that she had
to keep a tight grip on
Yogi’s lofty ambitions,
she failed. It is said that
while Yogi was leaving
for Delhi, a sealed enve-
lope was sent to the
Honorable Governor in
which the names of
some ministers were to
be included in Yogi’s
Cabinet, but sensing
the feelings of Delhi,
Anandiben put this en-
velope on cold storage.
She did it, with the hope
that the ‘Nizam of Del-
hi‘ would take her Vice
Presidential candidacy
equally seriously
.
WHO WILL BE AAP’S
CM FACE IN PUNJAB?
Ever since Kejriwal
has announced that
if AAP comes to power
in Punjab, he will make
a Sikh as the CM; since
then AAP’s only MP
from Punjab, Bhagwant
Mann, is continuously
pressurising the party,
but Kejriwal hasn’t
yielded. He wants that
person as CM of Punjab
about whom nothing
negative has come in
the media. The
names of
f o r m e r
S p e c i a l
Director
General
of Securi-
ty Force
NPS Aulakh, social ac-
tivist and businessman
SPS Oberoi, activist
Balveer Singh Sinchew-
al, popularly known as
Ikobaba, besides a for-
mer captain of the In-
dian hockey team are
also being considered
by AAP.
PK DISILLUSIONED
WITH CONGRESS
Election strategist
Prashant Kishor
has made up his mind
that he will no longer
join the Congress. But
it is not because a large
group of senior Con-
gress leaders i.e. P Chi-
dambaram, Mallikar-
jun Kharge, Digvijay
Singh etc. were oppos-
ing his entry in Con-
gress. Rather, PK has
taken this decision lis-
tening to what his heart
says. They feel that Ra-
hul Gandhi does not
listen to him much, and
does what he thinks he
has to do. PK thinks
that the thing for which
he is getting money is
his business, yet Rahul
is not listening to his
advice, so once he joins
the party, his talk will
become a hoax.

P6 Aditi Nagar Chandigarh: Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday resigned as Chief Minister of Pun- jab, citing continued humiliation by Con- gress leadership over the past two months. He made it clear that he would explore & exer- cise his future options when time comes. He said he had decided and informed Congress president Sonia Gandhi in the morning that he would resign. “Appar- ently they (Congress high command) do not have confidence in me and did not think I could handle my job. But I felt humiliated at the man- ner in which they han- dled the whole affair,” he said. “Let them ap- point who they trust,” he remarked after ten- dering his resignationto Guv Banwarilal Puro- hit at 4.30 pm. After a long spell of infighting in Punjab Cong, Captain’s resig- nation seemed a for- gone conclusion. This comes after Navjot Sid- hu, Amarinder’s bete noire, was appointed state Congress chief. Two resolutions passed in CLP meeting on Saturday apprecia- teed outgoing CLP lead- er—who headed Punjab govt with utmost ability , gave good governance to the state, said AICC gen- eral secretary-in-charge of Punjab Harish Raw- at. Sitting MP Babul Su- priyo joined the Tri- namool family in the presence of Nation- al Gen Secy Ab- hishek Banerjee and RS MP Derek O’Brien. Abhishek said, “It is just the beginning, many more to come. TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said more leaders will join TMC as BJP is “just a gas balloon with no ideology”. Leader of Opposition in WB Assembly Suvendu Adhikari said Supri- yo’s departure did not cause any loss to BJP as he is not po- litically significant.  Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij on Saturday drew parallels between the Pun- jab Congress and a sinking ship, terming it “unstable”. When a ship is about to sink, its movement becomes unsteady. Navjot Singh Sidhu is responsible for Captain’s resignation.  Aam Aadmi Party co- incharge for Assembly Elections 2022 Raghav Chadha called Congress the “sinking Titanic”. In the Game of Thrones that have been going on in Punjab Congress for the last so many months, the greatest causality has been governance he said.  “Replacing the Congress chief minister is a panic re- action of the Congress high command to salvage the party situation after it failed to deliver in the last more than four and a half years,” said BJP’s national general secretary Tarun Chugh. “I was humiliated three times by the Congress leadership in the past two months...they called the MLAs to Delhi twice and now convened CLP here in Chandigarh today,” I feel humiliated. RAJASTHAN CONNECTION NEED TO KNOW PARTIES REACT RAHUL’S WILL PREVAILS! Sources say, Rahul is now coming in Complete Command and Control. Probably he has apologised to both his mother and sister for enforcing his harsh decisions. Clear signs of this found this morning when Sonia told the Captain on the phone “Sorry Amarinder!” According to political observers, there is a sense of helplessness hidden in Sonia’s words as she conceeds before the decisions of her children. These developments have led to a tremendous stir in OLD BRIGADE of Congress! Names of both Ajay Mak- en and Harish Chaudhary are being discussed in the political corridors of Rajasthan today. Both played an important role in Punjab as observers. Maken is party in-charge in Raj while Chaudhary is Revenue Min in Gehlot government. The move is seen as an effort to restore lost glory and prestige of high command. Now Ra- hul is making efforts and is not listening to any family member. Even on issue of Chhattisgarh, Rahul made his choice. Now Baghel may also resign at any moment. However, she has refused to speak to the media so far. Po- litical observers be- lieve that her visit is connected with re- cent political devel- opments in the state, given that Chief Min- ister Bhupendra Pa- tel is from her camp. Back in 2017, when the Bharatiya Janata Party refused to give Anandiben’s daugh- ter Anar Patel a tick- et for the Ghatlodiya seat, the former CM had requested the party to allot the ticket to Bhupendra Patel. Party sources said that while Union Home Minister Amit Shah remains neu- tral on Bhupendra Patel, any meeting between the former and current Patel CMs will be an effort in guiding and grooming—andcould indicate that Anandi- ben will have a say in state affairs. SPIRITUAL SPEAK The only right way to live is to live in the present. —Bhagavad Gita IN-DEPTH PETRO PRODUCTS TO REMAIN OUT OF GST REGIME onsumer expecta- tions ran high as the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council meeting got under- way in Lucknow on Friday . Will it bring petroleum products un- der its purview or retain the pre- sent tax regime which would mean the prices remaining high. An indirect tax regime, it was argued, will lower the fuel pric- es substantially . Bringing petro products un- der GST was being considered after an order of the Kerala High Court but with the States opposing it, “the Council was unanimously of the view that it is not appropriate to do so at this stage”. Taxation on fuel prices is a big revenue grosser for the States and even at 28 percent of GST they would have suffered huge revenue losses. All States have different tax rates on fuel and a uniform tax structure would have hurt their interests. As the Central government and states both levy tax on petro- leum products, India has the highest tax on fuel. GST would have brought relief to the com- mon man.        TOP TWEETS C unjab drama is playing out on ex- pected lines. Una- ble to bear the “humiliation” any further, Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh re- signed from his post, and has kept his future options open. As he informed the Congress high command of his deci- sion in the morning, the par- ty called for a Congress Leg- islature Party to elect a new leader. The Congress trium- virate of Sonia Gandhi, her sonRahulGandhianddaugh- ter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra may have heaved a sigh of relief at the Captain’s exit, but they may have weakened the party months before the Assembly elections. Theformerchief minister’s announcement marks the cul- mination of the last few months’ developments trig- gered by the induction of for- mer cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu into the Congress party . Despite strong opposition fromAmarinderSingh,Sidhu was made the Pradesh Con- gress president. Even after getting the post he wanted, Sidhukeptupwithhisvicious attacks on the chief minister as if the party bosses wanted him to needle Amarinder Sin- gh to the point of exaspera- tion. All eyes will be on Ama- rinder’s next move. Will he quit Congress, form another party or switch sides? That will also decide the fate of the Congress. HARAKIRI OR SAGACITY BY CONG IN PUNJAB By forcing a senior leader to go in this manner may not help the party in Punjab where AAP has been lying in wait for an opportunity like this. All eyes will be on Amarinder’s next move. Will he quit Cong, form another party or switch sides? P CHANGE IN AFGHANISTAN NOT INCLUSIVE: MODI t happened sooner than later. According to reliable sourc- es, a few days ago a fracas took place at the Presidential Palace in Kabul. Mullah Abdul Ghani Bara- dar- considered a balanced, non-fanatical Taliban leader was apparently physically at- tacked by a member of the Haqqani group. The Taliban high-ups were deliberating the forming of a Cabinet. Mullah Baradar was in fa- vour of having an “inclu- sive” cabinet which would include non-Talibans also. This was not acceptable to Khalilul Rahaman Haqqaini. He punched Mullah Baradar. The respective bodyguards had a shootout. Fortunately Mullah Baradar was not wounded. He soon left for Kandahar to meet the Tali- ban spiritual head, Haibatul- lah Akhundzada. -------------------------------------------- Before I emphasize the sig- nificance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s virtual speech at the Shanghai Coop- eration Organization, I will mention what President Xi Jing Ping said. He empha- sised the SCO should assist in a smooth transition in Af- ghanistan and ensure the es- tablishment of an all-inclu- sive government. He also spoke against ter- rorism, separation and ex- tremism. The Shanghai Co- operation Organisation con- sists of India, China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uz- bekistan. Afghanistan is an Observer. He stressed, “We, SCO member states need to set up a coordination (setup) to make full use of platforms such as SCO-Afghanistan Contact Group, and facilitate a smooth transition in Af- ghanistan……TheSCOneeds to encourage Afghanistan to put in place a broad-based po- litical frame-work, adopt moderate domestic and for- eign policies…. Resolutely fight terrorism”. With due respect to the leader of China I do not think the Taliban gov- ernment would be capable of implementing any of the three, eminently wise sugges- tions. They have no idea of how to govern or how to con- duct foreign policy and do- mesticadministration.Toask terrorists “resolutely fight terrorism” is like expecting a crocodile to fight another non-existing crocodile. The Taliban are the terrorists. Finally, Xi Jing Ping pro- posed the SCO countries should “pursue common, comprehensive and coopera- tive action, and take tough steps against terrorism, sep- aratism, including the East Turkestan Islamic Move- ment” if I may so he is con- fusing hope with reality. Common action by the SCO is most unlikely. The USA will be the spoiler. President Vladimir Putin of Russia said that the Rus- sian government supports a UN conference on Afghani- stan and that the World should consider unfreezing Afghanistan assets. The Security Council met to discuss Afghanistan. Out- come –no solution emerged. The UN General Assembly is a noisy ‘jamboree’, where sustained serious discus- sions are rare. Now to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who spoke on the situation in Afghani- stan and India’s approach to the crisis in that country . He was addressing a joint meet- ing of the Shanghai Coopera- tion Organization and Russia led Collective Security Trea- ty Organisation (CSTU). The PM made the follow- ing points. The change in Af- ghanistan was not inclusive and was done without nego- tiation. The SCO should have strict and common norms to deal with terrorism. No toler- ance on terrorism or its ex- port from Afghanistan. Chal- lenge growing radicalism. Among India’s key con- cerns were Pakistan based Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e- Mohammed. The PM called for protection of women and minorities. He listed four grave issues. The spread of terrorist and extremist ide- ologies if instability contin- ues in Afghanistan, the pos- sibility of uncontrolled flow of drugs, illegal weapons and human trafficking and the serious humanitarian crisis in the war torn country. Questions were being raised about, “acceptability of the new regime”. “Therefore it is essential that the world com- munity decides on the recog- nition of the new regime in a thoughtful and collective manner.” “The 20th anniversary of SCO is a suitable occasion to think about the future of the SCO. I believe the biggest challenges in the region are related to peace, security and trust deficit and the root cause of these problems is radicalism” The country now knows precisely what is India’s Af- ghan policy. The Prime Min- ister has cleared the diplo- matic fog. THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL I Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke against terrorism, separation and extremism. According to the National Crime Re- cords Bureau (NCRB) data of 2020, a total of 785 cases were regis- tered under the Prohi- bition of Child Mar- riage Act. The number of cases registered were the highest in Karnata- ka at 184. In 2019, 523 cases were registered under the act, while in 2018, 501 cases were lodged. Experts say the grad- ual rise in the cases of child marriage may not necessarily mean that there has been a jump in such instanc- es but that the report- ing of such cases has also increased. Roop Sen, Founding Member of Sanjog, one of the NGOs which is a part of the Indian Lead- ership Forum Against Trafficking, said: “It is a mix of both increased reportingandinstances. There have been in- creased incidences of adolescents girls falling in love and eloping and getting married that also contribute to in- creased number of child marriages. —PTI What will BJP do in Maha, Haryana and Jharkhand? Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel and former CM Vijay Rupani. Mahesh Sharma New Delhi: After the BJP’s return to Patel politics in Gujarat, which is considered the laboratory of Hindutva, questions have been raised about party’s ex- periments in many more states. Wherever BJP has made changes recently, it has given preference to the strong- est caste in the caste equation. If Lingayat CM was removed in Kar- nataka, a Lingayat were sworn in. In Uttara- khand, a Thakur was made the CM and in Gu- jarat, Rupani of Jain Vaish Samaj was re- placed as CM of strong- est Patidar community. Therefore, the question is what will the BJP do in Haryana, Jharkhand and Maharashtra now? In these three states, the BJP had undertaken bold experiments. It had made a non-Jat CM in Haryana by taking a risk. But BJP went a step further and made a Punjabi the CM. Since then the BJP has been facing opposition from Jats. The BJP had suf- fered a loss in the As- sembly polls due to Jats’ protest, but the party performed brilliantly in Lok Sabha and won all 10 seats. However, now the picture has changed after Gujarat. Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khat- tar is also going to com- plete 7 years. So, the Jat leaders of Haryana are also hoping for a change. On the other hand, the discussion of mak- ing a leader from tribal community as CM in Jharkhand has once again started gaining momentum. Similarly, in Maharashtra, BJP had made a non-Mara- tha CM by taking a risk. There is no instance of a Brahmin being made the CM in the near past. Now party is doing fur- ther politics by giving command to the strong castes everywhere, the hope of Maratha lead- ers has been raised too. They feel that if the BJP decides to continue Gujarat experiment, then in Maharashtra too, a Maratha will be made CM at the next op- portunity. Will it’s new strategy work or will it back fire, the answer to this riddle lies in the upcoming assembly poll results. Sushil Kumar New Delhi: It seems that those who are leav- ing the Congress party are ending up in a posi- tion better than that handed to them as oth- er parties are accom- modating them at the best possible place. Along with the BJP, even Congress’ own allies are sitting ready for this. Earlier it was being said that BJP is giving Lok Sabha or Vidhan Sabha tickets to the leaders defecting from Congress, but it does not make them minis- ters etc. However, now that myth has also been broken as BJP has made Jyotiraditya Scindia a Union Minister after sending him to the Ra- jya Sabha. Moreover, his supporters have also got a good place in the Madhya Pradesh gov- ernment. On the other hand, Himanta Biswa Sarma, who left the Congress and joined the BJP just six-seven years ago, has been made the Chief Minister of As- sam and now he is han- dling the politics of BJP in the Northeast. This is a big temptation for Congress leaders wait- ing to jump on the bor- der line. Meanwhile, Mamta Banerjee has decided to send former All India Mahila Cong Prez Sushmita Deb, who left Congress and joined TMC, to the Ra- jya Sabha. Priyanka Chaturvedi, who left Congress and joined Shiv Sena, has also been sent to Rajya Sabha. Satpal Maharaj is also a minister in the BJP gov- ernment in Uttara- khand and in fact there is talk of him becoming the CM as well. Congress’lossisdefectors’gain! PunjabCongresscrisisreachesnewlow CAPTAIN’SDEPARTUREMONTHSBEFORETHESTATEASSEMBLYELECTIONSWILLONLYDAMPENPARTY’SIMAGE Subhashis Mittra New Delhi: The crisis within Congress in poll- bound Punjab Saturday reached a flashpoint, the timing of which could not have been worse coming as it did months before the up- coming elections to the state assembly . The sudden develop- ment came in the wake of over 50 of the 80 Con- gress MLAs - specifi- cally Navjot Singh Sid- hu’s supporters - writ- ing to party chief Sonia Gandhi - after a late night meeting to de- mand that Amarinder Singh be replaced as Punjab Chief Minister. Many Congress legis- lators are said to have bluntly told Harish Rawat, the party’s Pun- jab poll in-charge, that the Congress will not win next year’s poll un- der Captain Singh. The fact that Singh was living on borrowed time became apparent during the past two months when the party highcommandcalledits Punjab MLAs to Delhi twiceandthenconvened a CLP meet on Saturday . To what extent his re- sentment harms the Congress in the assem- bly elections, barely a fewmonthsaway ,willbe seen with interest. But incaseof anysplitinthe Congress, its electoral prospects will get ham- pered seriously, as the party is still licking its woundsafterSingh’sbit- terstand-off withSidhu. In August, Singh had relented to Sidhu’s de- mands after the Con- gress High Command appointed him as the President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Com- mittee. Now, in view of the sudden develop- ment, the names of three leaders are in cir- culation to replace Sin- gh - former Punjab Con- gress chiefs Sunil Jakhar and Pratap Sin- gh Bajwa, and Beant Singh’s grandson Ravneet Singh Bittu. Many Congress law- makers have, mean- while, urged the central leadership to take quick action, as the continu- ing political turmoil could allow the Opposi- tion in the state to seek dissolution of the As- sembly and contest the polls, expected around February next year, un- der President’s rule. However, there was no such immediate talk in the corridors of the Union Home Ministry, though the North Block is keeping a close watch on the unfolding devel- opments. Anita Hada New Delhi: All is not well between Janata Dal-U and BJP, which are running the govern- ment together in Bihar as state leaders of both the parties are continu- ously attacking each other. It is said that there are some theoreti- cal and political issues on which there is no consensus even among the top leadership, and moreover both have a different stand on the issue of caste census. Chief Minister Nit- ish Kumar had recently met the PM along with the leaders of all the parties of the state and requested him to get the caste census done. Now the CM and leaders of other parties are wait- ing for Centre’s deci- sion. If the central gov- ernment is not ready for this, then it is pos- sible that the JDU-led Bihar government will announce the caste count in the state. In such a situation, the dispute between the two will increase and a new power equation can also be formed. Meanwhile in Uttar Pradesh too both the parties have come face to face on the issue. JDU has announced to con- test the assembly elec- tions in UP. It has said that if BJP does not give respectable seats, it will fight alone. As far as BJP is concerned, it will not be ready to give even a single seat to JD(U) and thus it is cer- tain that JDU will have to fight alone. This may have some effect on the vote of BJP. JDU-BJP to remain at bay, until one steps back! 5 OF FAMILY, INCLUDING 9-MONTH-OLD BOY, FOUND DEAD IN BENGALURU JOURNO HELD FOR WRITING ‘WRONG PLACE’ OF TERRORIST ARREST BJP BACKSTABBED HINDUS: HINDU MAHA SABHA Bengaluru: Five members of a family, including a nine-month-old male infant, were found dead at their home here, while a two-and-a-half-year-old girl child has barely survived the trauma and is undergoing treatment. The bodies were discov- ered from their residence in the city’s Thigalara- palya on Friday night. The incident came to light when the head of the family, who was away, came home after four days. Ambala: A journalist was arrested and another was booked at Ambala Cantonment for alleged- ly mentioning “incorrect place” of arrest of a suspected terrorist in a news report, prompting the opposition to attack the Haryana government for “suppressing” freedom of press. He was produced in the court of Duty Magistrate Mukesh Kumar on Saturday and the court granted him bail on furnishing a personal bond of Rs 50,000. Mangaluru: The ruling BJP has backstabbed the Hindus by allowing demolition of an ancient temple in Mysuru and is trying to cover up their deed by using Sangh Parivar to fight against the act, Hindu Maha Sabha Karnataka state secre- tary Dharmendra said on Saturday. Addressing reporters in Mangaluru, he alleged that the fight against temple demolitions by Sangh organisa- tions is just a ploy to cover up the failure of the BJP government. Latehar: Seven girls aged between 12 and 20 years drowned in a pond at a village in Jharkhand’s Late- har district on Saturday. The tragedy occurred at Bukru village under Shregada within Balumath police station limits when the girls had gone to the pond for immersion after Karma Puja. Rescue teams were rushed to the scene. Brief- ing reporters after the 45th GST Council meet- ing in Lucknow on Fri- day, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Si- tharaman had said the regime of paying com- pensation to states for revenue shortfall re- sulting from subsum- ing their taxes such as VAT in the uniform national tax GST will end in June next year. However, the com- pensation cess, levied on luxury and demerit goods, will continue to be collected till March 2026 to repay the bor- rowings that were done in 2020-21 and 2021-22 to compensate states for GST revenue loss. In his speech at the meeting, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister P Thiaga Rajan demand- ed continuation of the compensation mecha- nism, and deferment of a decision on this issue. “While we are broad- ly, and firmly in favour of the continuation of the compensation mechanism, we are concerned by many of the details,” he said. Thiaga Rajan said all the Council Mem- bers will require some time to analyse and as- sess the features and consequences of the options presented dur- ing the 45th meeting, and hence expect that any decision on the way forward will be de- ferred to the 46th meet- ing at least. “To be doubly sure, we formally place a re- quest that no final deci- sion be made on this most important issue without the benefit of the time needed to fully as- sess the options,” Thiag a Ra- jan added. Briefing reporters, Kerala Finance Minis- ter K N Balagopal on Saturday said he has pitched for extending the GST compensa- tion regime as he highlighted that the state is already grappling with significant revenue shortfall. In case the GST com- pensation regime ends next year, the state will face further revenue shortfall, Balagopal said and expressed hope that it would be extended. Minister of State for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Chandrima Bhat- tarcharya said the state has demanded an extension of the com- pensation mechanism by five years. “It has been decided to set up a GoM for de- ciding the modalities of compensation mech- anism,” she had said after the meeting on Friday. Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said the matter of compensation cess would be referred to a group of ministers (GoM). Almost all major dailies carried reports quoting the DGP headquarters that officials have been been directed to conduct screening of ‘non-performing’ policemen in all the districts. Orders have been given to start screening tainted policemen aged 50 years and above for compulsory retirement. Since three IPS officers have already been given compulsory retirement, rumours are rife that more heads may roll. The details of the screening are to be sent to the DGP headquarters by 30 November. Given the sweeping nature of the reported order and the confusion not to mention it has created among the rank and files, the State government has come out with a clarification. “While it is true that the Yogi government has a zero-tolerance policy against corruption and several tainted policemen have been shown the way out in the past, the claim being made through the viral post on social media is misleading,” said a senior home department officer. He said guidelines have been issued to all the departments to carry out a similar exercise to identify the ‘tainted’ but there was no need to panic for others. The officer said screening reports will be perused by a high-power panel, which will then make it recommendations. —First India Bureau GANG MAKING FAKE MARKSHEETS AND DEGREES BUSTED Chinhat Police of Lucknow busted the gang making fake marksheets and degrees on Saturday. • 9. 08 2NDFRONT Gyanendra Shukla Lucknow: Against the backdrop of the forth- coming Assembly elec- tions in the state. BJP is taking steps with special caution regard- ing the appointments to be made in the party organization and state-commissions. Also, well-thought- out steps are being tak- en regarding the mem- bers to be nominated in the Upper House of the state. The Upper House has a lot of importance in the current politics of UP . Top notch leaders such as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Ad- ityanath and Deputy Chief Ministers Kes- hav Prasad Maurya and Dr. Dinesh Sharma are members of this house. Many ministers are also a part of the Upper House. It is to be noted that tenure of CM Yogi and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Maurya is till July 6, 2022, next year. At present, the SP has the maximum 51 seats in the Legislative Council, while the BJP has 32 members. There are six mem- bers from BSP, two members from Con- gress, one member from Apna Dal (S),one from the teachers group (non-political) and oth- ers Independents. Because of the ma- jority of SP in the up- per house BJP had con- fronted many troubles in the past. Many times the government has faced an uncom- fortable situation here as, on many occasions when government bills had to be referred to the select committee due to lack of majority in stae’s upper house. This time BJP has a chance to in- crease its tally here, as there are a total of four va- cancies out of 10 nomi- nated seats that have fallen vacant in the past few months. Of these four seats The term of MLC Leela- wati Kushwaha, Ram Vraksha Yadav, Jiten- dra Yadav ended on July 5, 2021, while one mem- ber, S R S Yadav, had suc- cumbed to Covid-19. All these SP leaders were nominated during the SP regime. Now these vacancies would be filled as per the choice of the Yogi Cabinet. In view of the up- coming assembly elec- tions, special care is being taken of the caste and regional equations while deciding the names for these four seats, it is believed that Jitin Prasad, who changed his loyalities from the Congress, to BJP, is likely to get a chance, while for the remaining three seats. According to politi- cal pundits, names of OP Shrivastava, Sanjay nishad and Ramchan- dra Pradhan are also under consideration. In this raid, the depart- ment found links to is- sue and sell bogus in- voices. Apart from this, the company made its own class IV employees as directors. Rich Com- pany, which made 15 fake companies one af- ter the other, instead of keeping another person in its company, thought it appropriate to put the name of its own class IV employees in it so that the matter remains sup- pressed within the com- pany and the game of selling invoices contin- ued. However, some companies have been registered since the time of VAT. Intheinvestigationof Income Tax officials, it has been found that no work was done in any of these companies and in- stead only invoices were issued. However, in these companies only their peons and other class IV employees have been made directors so that all the companies look different. It is worth noting that the Bollywood actor, who is being linked with the Income Tax raid, had done the work of send- ing many people home and providing financial help during the Corona crisis. He had made a lot of headlines on the in- ternet media by helping people during the pan- demic. Now many more names will emerge from the revelations after the raid on Rich Company . There have been in- stances where profes- sional receipts have been camouflaged as loans in the books of ac- counts for the purpose of evasion of tax. Pleasure and pain are two sides. Only one side is visible at a time but remember the other side is waiting for its turn... —Jagdeesh Chandra, CEO Editor-in-Chief, First India WILL THE CAPTAIN HEAD TO BJP NOW? Captain Amarinder Singh has heated up the political atmos- phere of Punjab after he was asked to resign as CM by the party High Command on Saturday . In view of his proximi- ty to PM Modi, it is be- ing speculated that he may also wear the ‘Saf- fron chola’. At the same time, he is even con- nected with the Aam Aadmi Party through Manish Tiwari. Cap- tain’s opposition to the party has been increas- ing ever since Sidhu came into the scene, saying that some 63 Congress MLAs from Punjab had raised a protest against him. With this move that has brought the Con- gress High Command out of their slumber, there are speculations that at present Sunil Jakhar can be given the responsibility of the Chief Minister’s post. Captain was well aware thattheentirecampaign totrimhisstature, which Sidhu was leading, was supported by Delhi. Word is that Rahul and Priyanka were also annoyed with the arro- gant style of the Cap- tain’s functioning as he did not listen to anyone, rather did as he pleased. Barring a few MLAs, most of the Congress MLAs did not even dare approach him. The Congress top brass have done a good assessment of how much loss the party would have to suffer in coming Assembly polls if Captain quit the par- ty. Sources also reveal that once the Captain joins BJP, Modi govern- ment can revoke 3 agri- cultural laws and con- test elections there under the leadership of Captain because BJP does not have any special sup- port base in Punjab. WHEN WILL CONGRESS WAKE UP FROM ITS DEEP SLUMBER IN GUJARAT? For the next year’s Gujarat Assembly elections, where the rul- ing BJP is busy in its damage control cam- paign wherein right from CM to ministers have been changed; the Congress seems help- less to capitalise on this opportunity . Ahmed Pa- tel, who was considered an expert on Gujarat af- fairs in the party, was taken by Corona last year. Gujarat in-charge Rajiv Satav also became a victim of Corona. Af- ter seeing the defeat in the civic elections, the party’s state president Amit Chavda and Lead- er of Opposition Paresh Dhanani had re- signed from their posts in March 2021 itself and it has now been six months, but neither has Congress got a new party president in Guja- rat, nor an in-charge. Yet Rahul Gandhi has tried to make a rhetoric that ‘this time he will crush the BJP there.’ Not only is AAP very ac- tive in Gujarat, but the owner of a regional news channel has also been made face of the party . Coming from Del- hi, AAP’s big leaders sometimes create a ruckus in Gujarat, while Rahul-Priyanka pair seems to have aban- doned Gujarat. WILL 90% MLAS’ TICKETS BE CUT? Anger is boiling within a section of BJP leaders in Gujarat as for decades they have been putting their blood and sweat in ‘ir- rigating’ the lotus, but when it comes to be- coming CM, the ‘Al- mighty’ unwittingly bets on a new face. This is what happened in the election of Basavaraj Bommai in Karnataka, and how Pushkar Singh Dhami got selected in Uttarakhand, no one came to know about it. Now, speculations are rife in Himachal and Haryana of change of CM. Talking about Gu- jarat, after changing the CM, now the blame is going to fall on the BJP MLAs. Sources say that formula of Delhi and Chhattisgarh will now be repeated in Gu- jarat as well. If sources are to be believed, only 5% of sitting MLAs will be given tickets, that is, over 90% of ‘saffron’ MLAs will have to let go of their claims. The BJP has a total of 112 MLAs in the 182-mem- ber Gujarat Assembly, which means that ac- cording to this calcula- tion, tickets of about 101 MLAs may be cut. BJP leaders believe that anti-incumbency factor focuses on a par- ticular person in the government, so if the person changes, then the anger of the voters also ends. WHOSE BOAT WILL SINK? UP Governor Anandiben Patel sitting in Lucknow has created an earthquake in the Saffron politics of Gujarat. Vijay Rupa- ni, who was ecstatic with the kinship of country’s number two —AmitShah—thinking that no problem could befall him, he and all his ministers were hur- riedly discharged. Ni- tin Patel’s close rela- tionship with the coun- try’s most powerful in- dustrial empire also did not work for him. And thereafter the reins of Gujarat were handed to Bhupendra Patel whose only po- litical capital is his proxim- ity to Anandi- ben. He is a first time MLA but became the Chief Minister di- rectly. When Anandiben was sent to UP, with the in- structions that she had to keep a tight grip on Yogi’s lofty ambitions, she failed. It is said that while Yogi was leaving for Delhi, a sealed enve- lope was sent to the Honorable Governor in which the names of some ministers were to be included in Yogi’s Cabinet, but sensing the feelings of Delhi, Anandiben put this en- velope on cold storage. She did it, with the hope that the ‘Nizam of Del- hi‘ would take her Vice Presidential candidacy equally seriously . WHO WILL BE AAP’S CM FACE IN PUNJAB? Ever since Kejriwal has announced that if AAP comes to power in Punjab, he will make a Sikh as the CM; since then AAP’s only MP from Punjab, Bhagwant Mann, is continuously pressurising the party, but Kejriwal hasn’t yielded. He wants that person as CM of Punjab about whom nothing negative has come in the media. The names of f o r m e r S p e c i a l Director General of Securi- ty Force NPS Aulakh, social ac- tivist and businessman SPS Oberoi, activist Balveer Singh Sinchew- al, popularly known as Ikobaba, besides a for- mer captain of the In- dian hockey team are also being considered by AAP. PK DISILLUSIONED WITH CONGRESS Election strategist Prashant Kishor has made up his mind that he will no longer join the Congress. But it is not because a large group of senior Con- gress leaders i.e. P Chi- dambaram, Mallikar- jun Kharge, Digvijay Singh etc. were oppos- ing his entry in Con- gress. Rather, PK has taken this decision lis- tening to what his heart says. They feel that Ra- hul Gandhi does not listen to him much, and does what he thinks he has to do. PK thinks that the thing for which he is getting money is his business, yet Rahul is not listening to his advice, so once he joins the party, his talk will become a hoax.
