This document provides an overview and definitions for key terms related to the management of acute coronary syndrome (ACS). It discusses the ACS spectrum and defines ACS as not being the same as myocardial infarction (MI). MI is specifically defined as myocardial injury due to cardiomyocyte necrosis from acute myocardial ischemia. ACS can present through various diagnostic tools and biomarkers and requires different acute-phase management approaches depending on the unstable presentation, including antithrombotic therapy and invasive strategies. Primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), fibrinolytic treatment, and pharmaco-invasive strategies are outlined as technical aspects in the management of ACS patients.
