This document provides a list of references and several instructional strategies for teaching therapeutic use of self. The instructional strategies include having students: 1) write responses to a film clip portraying a client and discuss their responses in pairs; 2) stand in a circle and describe concepts from a textbook when tossing a ball; and 3) write responses to client cases posted around the room and discuss the responses in groups. The document suggests using these strategies to help students learn and practice therapeutic communication skills.
