2016 Hall of Fame
1. The American Road & Transportation Builders
Association Transportation Development Foundation
(ARTBA-TDF) created a “Hall of Fame” to honor
individuals or families from the public and private sectors
who have made extraordinary contributions to U.S.
transportation development over their lifetime and
demonstrated exceptional leadership.
Established in 1902, ARTBA is a federation whose primary
goal is to aggressively grow and protect transportation
infrastructure investment to meet the public and business
demand for safe and efficient travel. The ARTBA-TDF,
created in 1985, is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt entity committed
to promoting “research, education and public awareness” on
transportation development issues.
Nominations will be considered for two categories:
Transportation Design & Construction Industry Innovators
This category honors the men and women who discovered
or created a “game changing” product or process that
significantly advanced transportation design, construction
and/or safety. This is to honor the original innovator.
Describe the product or process, the problem that is
addressed, and quantify its unique benefits. Explain why
this individual alone should be credited for this advance
and results. Nominations in this category must have
supporting explanations of 500 words or less.
Transportation Design & Construction Industry Leaders
(Individuals or Families)
This category honors men, women and families who have
made significant contributions—beyond just having
successful businesses or careers—that have notably helped
advance the interests and image of the transportation

Purpose Nomination Criteria
Background on ARTBA & the Foundation
2. design, construction and safety industry. Here are the
criteria for this category:
A. Industry Contributions
• Made significant contributions by serving in leadership
positions of city, state, national and/or international
associations or other industry-related groups.
• Demonstrated support of worthy causes that helped
advance the industry and/or boost its image.
• Played a key role in supporting industry relations with
elected leaders and regulators, and other industry
groups that helped achieve industry pulic policy goals.
• Contributed to the education or professional
development of the industry.
B. Leadership
• Demonstrated leadership skills in administrative and
policy areas that helped advance the industry’s agenda.
• Provided significant support for industry initiatives and
programs.
• Promoted awareness of the industry’s many positive
contributions to the nation’s economy and quality of
life.
C. Corporate Citizenship
• Provided leadership in corporate citizenship/social
responsibility and has been recognized for leading by
example.
• Supported worthy causes that have had positive impacts
on industry professionals and/or boosted the industry’s
image through the support of these social causes.
• Provided a means or a program to educate industry
professionals in sound corporate citizenship as part of
the company’s overall responsibility to the community.
Anyone can nominate a candidate. ARTBA membership is
not required. Individuals can be living or inducted to the
Hall posthumously. The selection process is extremely
competitive and only a very limited number of
individuals will be inducted annually. A nominee will be
considered for induction over three successive years without
having to be re-nominated. Should a nominator choose to
submit additional supporting materials for a previous year’s
nomination, all updated materials must be received by the
submission deadline for the current year. After three years
from the initial nomination, the individuals name will be
withdrawn, and they will have to be re-nominated.
A committee that includes transportation and construction
industry journalists will select the inductees. Two-thirds of
the committee must vote in favor of a nominee’s induction.
Inductees will be notified in writing by the chairman of the
ARTBA-TDF Board of Trustees.
Hall of Fame inductions for the 2016 class will occur in
2017.
Required Materials:
• Completed nomination form. Incomplete forms will
not be considered.
• All nomination materials must be submitted online by
July 29, 2016.
• High-quality photo or electronic image of 300dpi or
higher. JPEG, TIFF, or high-quality PDF are acceptable.
Additional documentation that is recommended and to be
used by the judges, may include, but is not limited to:
• Biographical sketch
• Resume
• News articles
• List of awards or citations
• Published works
