An approach for load-time hacking using LD_PRELOAD is presented.
We discuss a simple, yet intriguing, strategy for overcoming the limitations discussed in Part 1 (i.e., the first publication given in the reference) of reverse engineering and exploitation using LD_PRELOAD, a dynamic linking technique. In particular, we relax the need for exit(1) in the main function. The essence of the technique is that both the stack pointer (esp) and the base frame pointer (ebp) are carefully adjusted when the wrapper to the library function is called. The proposed solution allows us to safely return to libc after dynamically modifying the control flow in the wrapper to (library) functions.
PHP 8.0 comes with many long-awaited features: A just-in-time compiler, attributes, union types, and named arguments are just a small part of the list. As a major version, it also includes some backward-incompatible changes, which are centered around stricter error handling and enhanced type safety. Let's have an overview of the important changes in PHP 8.0 and how they might affect you!
PHP 8.0 is expected to be released by the end of the year, so it’s time to take a first look at the next major version of PHP. Attributes, union types, and a just-in-time compiler are likely the flagship features of this release, but there are many more improvements to be excited about. As PHP 8.0 is a major version, this release also includes backwards-incompatible changes, many of which are centered around stricter error handling and more type safety.
This talk will discuss new features already implemented in PHP 8, backwards-compatibility breaks to watch out for, as well as some features that are still under discussion.

I will answer these types of question with a (shallow) dive into PHP internals, touching on various topics like value representation, bytecode optimization and GC.
Euro python2011 High Performance PythonIan Ozsvald

Manual crash reproduction is a labor-intensive and timeconsuming task. Therefore, several solutions have been proposed in literature for automatic crash reproduction, including generating unit tests via symbolic execution and mutation analysis. However, various limitations adversely a ect the capabilities of the existing solutions in covering a wider range of crashes because generating helpful tests that trigger speci c execution paths is particularly challenging. In this paper, we propose a new solution for automatic crash reproduction based on evolutionary unit test generation techniques. The proposed solution exploits crash data from collected stack traces to guide search-based algorithms toward the generation of unit test cases that can reproduce the original crashes. Results from our preliminary study on real crashes from Apache Commons libraries show that our solution can successfully reproduce crashes which are not reproducible by two other state-of-art techniques.
LLVM is currently finalizing the migration from typed pointers (i32*) to opaque pointers (ptr) -- the likely largest intermediate representation change in LLVM's history. In this talk, we'll discuss the motivations for the change, how it will affect developers working on/with LLVM in practice, and why this migration took such a long time. We'll also briefly cover possible future IR changes based on opaque pointers.
PHP 8.1 brings Enums, one of the most requested features in PHP.
Enums, or Enumerations, allow creating strict and type-safe structures for fixed values. An Enum structure can hold a number of values that can also be backed with integer or string values.
In this comprehensive session, we will discover what Enums are, why they are useful, how to apply them on our applications, and things to watch out for when using Enums.

Overview
You’ve written your unit tests and your integration tests. And yet, you’re still finding bugs in your code. In this talk we’ll cover advanced types of testing that helps you write higher quality code with less bugs.
Unit and integration tests are great first steps towards improving the quality of your python project. Ever wonder if there’s even more you can do? In this talk we’ll cover additional types of tests that can help improve the quality and robustness of your python projects: stateful property-based testing, generative fuzz testing, long term stability testing and advanced multithreaded testing.
This talk is more than just theory. We’ll look at specific libraries and frameworks that help you write these advanced tests. I’ll also show you real world examples of bugs these tests have found from projects that I maintain.

As your application grows, you soon realise you need to break up your application into smaller chunks that talk to each other. You could just use web services to interact, or you could take a more robust approach and use the message broker RabbitMQ.
In this talk, we will take a look at the techniques you can use to vastly enhance inter-application communication, learn about the core concepts of RabbitMQ, cover how you can scale different parts of your application separately, and modernise your development using a message-oriented architecture.

Turn your spaghetti code into ravioli with JavaScript modulesjerryorr
JavaScript is the language that powers the interactive web of the future. But as our web applications become larger and more complex, we begin to strain the old paradigm of throwing a bunch of JavaScript functions into a few files. Complex dependencies, tight coupling, and global state can turn our code into a huge plate of spaghetti. Though browsers do not natively support JavaScript modules, there are many tools that can help us to write clean, modular JavaScript.
In this session, we will explore the benefits of writing modular JavaScript. We will also take a deep dive into specific JavaScript module systems, such as Browserify, RequireJS, and the module standards that are coming in ES6.

Climate Science Flows: Enabling Petabyte-Scale Climate Analysis with the Eart...Globus
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is a global network of data servers that archives and distributes the planet’s largest collection of Earth system model output for thousands of climate and environmental scientists worldwide. Many of these petabyte-scale data archives are located in proximity to large high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud computing resources, but the primary workflow for data users consists of transferring data, and applying computations on a different system. As a part of the ESGF 2.0 US project (funded by the United States Department of Energy Office of Science), we developed pre-defined data workflows, which can be run on-demand, capable of applying many data reduction and data analysis to the large ESGF data archives, transferring only the resultant analysis (ex. visualizations, smaller data files). In this talk, we will showcase a few of these workflows, highlighting how Globus Flows can be used for petabyte-scale climate analysis.

Globus Compute wth IRI Workflows - GlobusWorld 2024Globus
As part of the DOE Integrated Research Infrastructure (IRI) program, NERSC at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab and ALCF at Argonne National Lab are working closely with General Atomics on accelerating the computing requirements of the DIII-D experiment. As part of the work the team is investigating ways to speedup the time to solution for many different parts of the DIII-D workflow including how they run jobs on HPC systems. One of these routes is looking at Globus Compute as a way to replace the current method for managing tasks and we describe a brief proof of concept showing how Globus Compute could help to schedule jobs and be a tool to connect compute at different facilities.

In 2015, I used to write extensions for Joomla, WordPress, phpBB3, etc and I didn't get rich from it but it did have 63K downloads (powered possible tens of thousands of websites).
Providing Globus Services to Users of JASMIN for Environmental Data AnalysisGlobus
JASMIN is the UK’s high-performance data analysis platform for environmental science, operated by STFC on behalf of the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). In addition to its role in hosting the CEDA Archive (NERC’s long-term repository for climate, atmospheric science & Earth observation data in the UK), JASMIN provides a collaborative platform to a community of around 2,000 scientists in the UK and beyond, providing nearly 400 environmental science projects with working space, compute resources and tools to facilitate their work. High-performance data transfer into and out of JASMIN has always been a key feature, with many scientists bringing model outputs from supercomputers elsewhere in the UK, to analyse against observational or other model data in the CEDA Archive. A growing number of JASMIN users are now realising the benefits of using the Globus service to provide reliable and efficient data movement and other tasks in this and other contexts. Further use cases involve long-distance (intercontinental) transfers to and from JASMIN, and collecting results from a mobile atmospheric radar system, pushing data to JASMIN via a lightweight Globus deployment. We provide details of how Globus fits into our current infrastructure, our experience of the recent migration to GCSv5.4, and of our interest in developing use of the wider ecosystem of Globus services for the benefit of our user community.
