This document summarizes the findings from research into personal data usage and privacy concerns in smart cities. It was found that (1) personal data is increasingly being used for purposes beyond its initial collection like automation, personalization and monetization, (2) most people feel unsafe about how their data is used and want more control over it, and (3) frameworks are needed that give individuals transparency and control over their data through techniques like consent models, data minimization, and access controls in order to build trust in smart city systems.
