Massaging Egos and Pushing Buttons: How to Build and Sustain an Advisory Boa...NAFCareerAcads
The key to a successful advisory board can often be traced to a leader who inspires, sets the pace, leads by example, or otherwise generates the energy to ignite others. Sometimes its the board chair, sometimes its a number 2, and sometimes its a school leader. When there are several who are aligned, a force can build. We'll explore ways to identify criteria that can make up strong AB members, how to find them and rope them in, and, most importantly, how to support and inspire them at levels that will make them lifers.

The Democratization of Learning and DevelopmentDavid Blake
The future of learning and development (L&D) is already here. This new reality includes workers and their managers sharing more of the responsibility than you might be used to. That doesn’t mean your L&D organization, practices, and tools are obsolete—they still play an important role. But they do need to evolve. These days, the most successful chief learning officers do more than just supply learning. They also enable their workers to take learning into their own hands.

July 2019 Breakfast Buzz session: Developing great leaders on the job:
Does your organization have supervisors, managers or leaders of any kind? If so, this session is developed just for you!
First, some bad news: No, good leaders are not born and don't suddenly "just get it". But you already knew that. Poor leadership is expensive and effective leadership skills must be learned. Anyone who leads, supervises or manages people or resources require focused direction, support and development to become effective in generating organizational results through the work of others. But research shows that 60% of today’s frontline leaders have not received any development, despite being responsible for supervising 80% of the workforce.
The great news: Research also shows that the best place for leaders to learn is on the job, doing the work they were hired to do, and with the people they were hired to do it with. Given the right opportunity and direction, they can become better leaders and effective coaches and mentors without disrupting regular business operations. No more sending people to expensive and time-consuming leadership development programs! And we can put an end to the long and boring online learning courses that everyone dreads and try their best to get through as quickly as possible!
How? This is what we will share in the July Breakfast Buzz! We will discuss effective ways to help working adults learn and change their behaviors to become effective leaders; the best mix of formal, social and on-the-job learning activities; the role of HR, executives and direct supervisors; new and simple learning technology that saves time and is more engaging and effective; and answer questions you may have on the particular culture, behavior and needs of your organization and developing leaders.

The first year provides common foundation of skills and knowledge in global business, managing and analysing information, accounting and skills, marketing principles and people and organizations
In the first year, you will learn about the global business environment and how businesses operate in modules shared with the Business Management degree. The Level 4 core module BCAR400 Global Business Environment is an integrating module which draws together your knowledge to see the bigger picture of how businesses operate locally and globally. It uses problem based learning: working in teams, you identify what you need to know, what you already know, and how and where to access new information that may lead to a solution of the problem. This helps you to develop flexibility, knowledge, effective problem solving skills, self-directed learning, collaboration skills and intrinsic motivation. It is delivered using a blended learning approach which combines the best of traditional face to face teaching methods such as seminars with the use of on-line resources such as videos, tests and quizzes to improve your learning experience.
Through the whole of your first year you will have opportunity to discover, test, and stretch your potential to develop the skills of an effective entrepreneur and a team player in the dedicated core module for this course: BAENT401 Entrepreneurship in Action
In the second year, the course focusses on entrepreneurship and you will enhance your skills, knowledge, and talents in building and managing your team-company. You and your team will focus on building capacity and expanding your business. You will have the flexibility to choose option modules that expose you to relevant aspects of business to support you in developing your company.
In the final year, you will develop your competence in operating the business and putting measures in place to sustain your business. At Level 6 there is an expectation that you will take a pro-active, self-directed approach to your own learning. The final year allows you to complete an extended piece of independent research on a particular entrepreneurship ‘theme’. This independent research provides a valuable foundation for both employment and postgraduate study in terms of showcasing your development of self-motivation, the ability to prioritise time and resources in order to meet deadlines, to deal with pressure effectively, to apply your own informed perspective, and to prepare a cogent analysis based on clearly articulated evidence.
Working as a team in an entrepreneurial organisation demands commitment and self-discipline, but by challenging you it leads to self-realisation. Your success will be evaluated by customers, your team, and yourself as a learner. Direct, constructive feedback will give you the opportunity for professional and personal development. Your courage and self-confidence will rise with every success
